Neteyam could feel some sadness for himself; it was shit to get dumped on Christmas Eve, even if your relationship was, for all intents and purposes, mostly just for appearances to both parties at this point.
But the appearances need to be kept up, no matter who's doing it. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Asking a stranger on the train to fake date you to not disappoint your family is one of those desperate measures.

Surviving on just a trucker salary, the Sullys must move house due to the family struggling financially to stay in Home Tree. Jake hopes to rekindle the destroyed relationships with his children, and to restore his family’s financial stability.
