Summary
In each break from activity, Jean-Baptiste returns to Synnove, either to offer food or just to check on her. Each time, Jean-Baptiste gives her a plate, quietly urging her to take even a single bite from it. Each time, the food goes uneaten. One of the times, Synnove had picked up the bowl of soup that Jean-Baptiste had pushed towards her, and hope had filled him as he watched in anticipation for her to take a sip. Gradually the hope diminished as Synnove continued to just cup the bowl in her hands. Still, he tried again, gently trying to coax her into eating even when the effort seemed pointless. Just in case. It only took a few minutes for her eyes to glaze over, awareness of her environment lost.

Jean-Baptiste taking care of Synnove in the aftermath of the attack in Orphanos Monastery and very much Not Thinking about his own grief. With special guest Maravix Sa’Viraan teaming up with JB to get Synnove to eat.

Maybe this time wasn’t different. Maybe Sirius just wanted Regulus to think that so it would hurt more when he inevitably decided to start yelling again, insisting that James was the same as he always had been, that Regulus was insane for possibly thinking otherwise
