Summary
It was odd to her, to care so much about what Catra would think of what she had made her home in the time in-between being allowed to mean something to one another. They had shared so much of their lives with each other, and the room existed like its own pocket dimension, another world that Adora never thought Catra would get a chance to see, let alone Adora getting the privilege to show her. Somewhere in the midst of nerves from the idea, the thought of Catra there settled in like it she was always meant to be there, taking a step forward right by Adora’s side. Like being handed the last piece of a puzzle with the empty spot staring back waiting for it to be placed.

Summary
“Cats can’t drink dairy,” Catra said quickly, her voice strained, like Adora had just suggested they make it a dry martini.
“Wait, what?” Adora paused, hand on a carton of potentially expired 2%.
“I mean like technically they can,” Catra replied. “But it’s bad for them.”
That had to be a lie. “But Ben and Jerry?”
“Tom?” Catra said, voice tinged with a hint of disbelief. Adora hadn’t actually been woken up from a dead sleep, but she might as well have been. She had already been up for twenty hours, and her brain liked to stumble around the fifteen hour mark.

Summary
Where Catra fit into the story of her life was as convoluted and painful as it was simple. They had spent so much of their lives utterly fused to each other’s sides, that at times, Adora didn’t know what parts of herself were her own or what belonged to Catra. For a long time, that didn’t matter. Catra was the most steady aspect of her life, until one day she wasn’t. Like a switch had been flipped, they lost each other.

Summary
“I don’t know. I’ve been trying not to think about that part,” Catra responded. It was flirting with the truth. She woke up every morning with dread sitting so squarely on her chest, her breath would catch in her throat. She spent her waking moments shoving the thoughts back down with every ounce of her body. If she thought about it too hard, the cracks beneath her feet grew teeth. But she knew what came next. Her life had been a cruel series of sinking her claws into every opportunity she could find. Catra knew how to survive, it just wasn’t going to be pretty.
She clicked her nails against the metal beneath her hands and asked, “What are you going to do if you find Mara?”

Summary
Adora laughed nervously, stretching out her arms and pointing over her shoulder with her thumb towards the lake. “I’m going to just go for a quick kayak ride. Get the day started right.”
“You know we only have two seaters, right?” Mermista asked, mouth half-full with pancake, either completely oblivious or fully aware of her intent. Adora couldn’t tell. Both were dangerous.
Adora opened her mouth, excuse already half formed, but Catra cut her off, “I’ll join you.”

Summary
Before today, Catra hadn’t really had much of an opinion on corn mazes. They were okay— midwest tradition, a little cheesy but maybe kind of fun, depending on who you’re with. Just kind of...whatever. She’d never really thought about it.
Now, standing alone in what is possibly the biggest corn field she’s ever seen in her life, entirely lost, hours past sunset and probably miles beyond the maze’s borders, she’s starting to form a more colorful opinion of them.
Well— she’s not entirely alone, because blondie here won’t stop following her. It’s getting kind of annoying, honestly, even though she’s the only person for miles and Catra’s one shot at getting out of this shitty field once and for all. She's not sure how much longer she can deal with this girl’s incessant positivity and that cocky smile she keeps throwing Catra’s way, either. It would all be fine (maybe even a little fun) if the girl weren't so obviously straight.
But it’s fine. Catra can take care of herself.

Summary
“You’re stupid if you think Canaan will hire you, Griddle,” Harrow says coolly.
Gideon knows her chances are slim, she’s only eighteen, just about to graduate high school. Traversing is new, dangerous, and expensive. It’s unlikely that Canaan would waste the most important technology Earth has ever created in order to send out a teenager to one of Earth’s variants. There are people who are older, people who have done research on traversing, hell, people who have expressed interest in exploring other worlds. Gideon hasn’t. Not once. Not until it became a possible escape from Drearburh.

Summary
“If I could let her out, I would,” Angella says. “You know that.”
Catra frowns, her brow arching. “Then what’s stopping you?”
She looks at her then, finally, as if she’s deciding something, and her fingers skim along the patterns of the table, once, and then twice. “The Locked Tomb isn’t just a grave, Catra. It’s a prison, a failsafe. When Horde Prime left here, he made sure that none of us could open it. Not without consequences.”

Summary
Adora picks at one of the vines curling along the rail - now polished, red-and-black - and fiddles with a yellow flower there, folding its petals this way and that. After a moment, she says, “Glimmer’s convinced I’m up here to propose.”
