Summary
Six years after Kurusu Akira lost the Metaverse, lost Joker, lost the one aspect of his life that made him actually worth something, he’s getting by. He’d never be the one to say it’s perfect, but he has income, he has a roof over his head, he usually doesn’t have to worry about eating. And a good portion of his time is spent not thinking about the past, about dark eyes and auburn hair and leather gloves thrown to his chest.
Six and a half years after losing everything, Akechi Goro is alive. That’s the best he can say for himself. He has a job and a roof over his head and he keeps to himself. And, as always, a good portion of his time is spent ruminating on the past, on bright grins and dark curls and the sound of fists pounding on metal. As loathe as he is to admit it, what happened that year has had long term effects on his life, though he doubts he’ll ever get past them.
Fate is a funny thing. It can’t make you love someone. It can’t even necessarily keep both of you alive. But sometimes, it tries very, very hard to give you a chance. You just have to grasp it.

Summary
The Nanami’s have always been welcoming, and not just to Fuyuhiko. Plenty of their wide, extended group of weirdo friends have been inside that house, at one time or another, for a birthday or an anniversary or just for dinner. It’s never really been a problem, as far as he’s aware, because Hajime absolutely loves cooking for groups, and he so rarely gets to. And Fuyuhiko’s glad they have so many people in their lives to turn to in a crisis.
So the fact that the two lovers have invited him over this evening isn’t strange in the slightest. He’s done this before, being one of the oldest and longest friends they have. It’s perfectly ordinary.
Except it isn’t. Because Hajime’s last message in their exclusive group chat contained the sentence, ‘I can’t wait to see you tonight.’ Because Chiaki reacted to Fuyuhiko’s estimation of his arrival time with several heart emotes.
Because Fuyuhiko knows what Hajime’s lips feel like, now, and he knows he’ll get to taste them again.

Summary
There’s a new group messaging chat in Fuyuhiko’s phone, now. Shortly after it was made, the three of them sitting around a park bench in the late afternoon eating street food, Chiaki changed the title, and whenever he opens the app now, the first words he sees are, ‘Lover Boys (and the wife).’ It makes his face burn every time he reads it. It’s so embarrassing.
He can’t bring himself to change it, though. Especially since, when it first happened, Hajime had laughed so brightly, his grin shining like the sun itself as it lowered towards the horizon.
So he just keeps the brightness of his cracked phone screen down. None of his coworkers need to see that.

Known exactly what the other keeps hidden, made it clear that they can be the one to shoulder those burdens not put on anyone else's back.

Except for the one thing that has lived, festering and smouldering and aching for air, smuggled into the tiny little lock box in the back of Fuyuhiko's brain. The one thing he planned to never, ever say out loud.
