Summary
He wanted to answer quickly. He always did. But something about her tone disarmed him — the way it wasn’t angry, just tired of the same old melody.
“I go where I’m needed.” he said finally. It sounded steadier than he felt.
Hera’s lips quirked — not quite a smile, not quite disdain either. “And I stay where I’m needed.” she murmured, brushing a stray curl from Hebe’s forehead. “The difference is, the world lets you return when you please.” Her gaze flicked briefly to him. “These,” she added, nodding faintly to the children, “do not.”
He stood very still, the weight of that truth settling in his chest. The god of storms, silenced by the quiet machinery of a mother’s world.

Summary
Eileithyia, as the eldest of the trio, assumes command like a seasoned general. She drags a small pink stool across the floor and plants it by Zeus’s feet with purpose. “Sit still, Daddy.” she orders, as though she’s running an emergency procedure rather than a spa day gone rogue.
Zeus, remote still in hand, blinks down at the three tiny forces assembling around him. “What are we—”
“Makeover.” Hebe says solemnly, like she’s announcing a sacred rite.
He exhales, defeated but amused, tossing the remote aside. “Fine. Just—don’t get anything in my eyes, yeah?”
That’s not a promise they’re capable of keeping.

“You’ll make yourself sick.” she whispered as he bent to kiss her temple.
“Worth the risk.”
She smiled against his touch, too weak to push him away, but she tried anyway, hands feebly pressing at his chest. “You’ll regret it when you start sneezing tomorrow.”
“I’ve survived worse.” he murmured.
“Barely.”
He kissed her again, this time just the corner of her mouth, and she sighed — not in protest, but in surrender to exhaustion.

Summary
He waved his hand and the faint outline of a mortal flickered into being above the map — not fully formed, just the rough impression of a man’s journey, glowing lines showing his path through land and trial. Hera’s eyes followed it briefly, mildly curious.
“Who is he?” she asked, tilting her head.
“Does it matter?” Zeus’s grin flashed, wolfish. “He’s brave enough, foolish enough. That’s all we ever need to start with.”
“Then I’ll take his side.” Hera said.
Zeus laughed outright. “Out of compassion?”
She picked up one of the golden ship pieces — her token, shaped like a bird in flight — and set it delicately at the edge of the mortal’s path. “Hardly. I simply feel like winning from this side tonight.”
“Then you’ve chosen poorly.” He selected a storm token and placed it opposite her piece, the marble beneath it darkening to deep blue. “Because I am fate this evening.”

Summary
Artemis lifted her head, affronted. “I taunted Apollo! Not her! I just said he should be able to fight Poseidon. How is that even remotely—”
“Artemis,” Zeus said, his tone patient in the way only a father of far too many could manage. “You indirectly mocked Poseidon, one of her allies. During a war. In front of the other gods.”
“That doesn’t mean she gets to—”
He held up a hand. “She’s Hera. She absolutely gets to.”
Artemis gaped at him. “You’re supposed to be on my side!”
“I am.” he said, almost cheerfully. “Just… not against her. That’s how I stay alive. I think even immortality has it’s limits when it comes to keeping a husband intact.”
She blinked, unsure if she’d heard that right. “You’re taking her side?”
“I’m not taking sides.” Zeus said with an airy wave of his hand. “I’m choosing peace. Domestic tranquility. You would have understand that if you were in my place.”
