He had texted Kageyama, at first, telling him all about the new world he found himself in. And Kageyama had texted back—but there was so much to do and see, and without the other boy in front of him, Hinata found it hard to remember why they were texting in the first place. Hinata’s texts became less frequent, and Kageyama did nothing to stop it; he never mentioned it.
The distance grew.
Hinata learned to stop staring at his empty phone screen late at night, aimlessly refreshing his messages, waiting for Kageyama to text him. He learned to stop thinking about black hair and blue eyes every time the ball came soaring his way on the court, focusing instead on his teammates who were there in front of him. They needed him, and Kageyama clearly didn’t.
The distance grew.
The sound of Kageyama’s voice faced. His face got blurry in Hinata’s mind, unrecognizable. Maybe the goodbye had been just that—a goodbye. A Permanent thing. Hinata stopped thinking about the “I’ll miss you,” quiet like a confession.
The distance grew and grew until there wasn’t much more growing it could do.
They hadn’t spoken in months.
Hinata was here, and Kageyama was there, and they weren’t a team anymore.

Summary
He can’t tell whether Hinata just started doing this or whether he was so focused on his face that he just didn't realize, but Hinata’s humping the fucking mattress. Hips stuttering unevenly as he grinds down on it, mouth open and leaking so much spit he soaks his pillow.
Kageyama can’t stop his mind from imagining what else of Hinata’s might be soaked. The realization that Hinata’s having a wet dream hits him suddenly and a lot too late.

The words Tobio heard earlier that night from a fellow setter, “come join us-” echo in his mind. He can nearly feel Atsumu's low voice against the shell of his ear.
The way he had pronounced ‘us’ confirmed everything. All the times Tobio had caught sight of Atsumu's hands on Shoyo, his back, his waist, tangled in his hair.
They were together. And for some unfathomable reason, Tobio was invited to join. His brain didn't even process that he could decline, because after so many years of regret, how the fuck could he even consider that option?

Summary
After Hinata returns from Brazil, Kageyama realizes things have changed. Appearances, skill, and the way they see each other all being different from their high school days that Kageyama remembers so fondly. They learn to take the differences in stride, even embracing the shift in feelings between them in an unexpected way.
