Chapter 1: One

Chapter Text

Yoongi woke up to the sound of his cat, Callie, screaming in his face.
"What?" Yoongi grumbled, picking the cat up and putting her beside him. "Can your problems wait another hour?" Callie gave him a look that said Absolutely Not, so Yoongi decided it was time to get up.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked, picking up Callie and starting to head to the kitchen. He knew that Callie can't understand a word he says, but he still likes to think that maybe, just maybe, there's a bit of recognition. He stepped into the living room and realized why she was being so needy this morning. "Seriously?" Yoongi mumbled as he spotted at least two piles of vomit. Callie has had an issue with eating things that she shouldn't eat for as long as Yoongi has had her, which meant that Yoongi is constantly picking up after his cat.
"Hey, here's a cool idea," Yoongi said to Callie as she sat on top of her cat tree, giving herself a bath. "How about, and this is really out there so stick with me, not eating things you're not supposed to? Weird idea, I know." Callie sneezed in response.

Yoongi spent his morning going through his apartment, looking for any more piles of vomit and cleaning the ones he finds. He found a few more, and managed to find some of the Christmas garland missing a few pieces of decoration.
"I can't have anything nice in this house because of you," Yoongi grumbled, then put away the garland. Truth be told, he loved Callie more than he loves himself, but he gets annoyed with her constant eating.
Later that day, Yoongi's friend, Hoseok, came over. "Hey," Yoongi said. Yoongi loved Hoseok, but in a platonic way. Hoseok brought light to Yoongi's life, which Yoongi needed every now and again. Yoongi often called Hoseok the sun, since his presence really seems to light up everyone around him.
"You look tired," Hoseok said in response.
"Callie ate Christmas garland." Hoseok rolled his eyes in response. Hoseok loves animals, but he doesn't understand why Yoongi would keep such a problematic cat. "Would it be possible for you to drive me to the vet? The last time we went, the vet said to bring her back if she got into anything else like that."
"Yeah, that's fine," Hoseok said, already heading back to his apartment to grab his keys. Meanwhile, Yoongi wrestled with Callie to try to get her into the crate, which was a chore. She kept digging her claws into the carpet, refusing to go into the crate. Yoongi eventually won by disassembling the entire crate and reassembling it once Callie climbed in.
Hoseok walked back into Yoongi's apartment, holding his phone. "Did you know our vet closed?"
"What?" Yoongi asked, already tired from trying to get Callie into her crate. "That can't be possible, I had her there last month."
"It's on their website," Hoseok shrugged, handing Yoongi his phone. Sure enough, the website said that as of last week, they closed their doors. "What do you wanna do now?" Hoseok sat down beside Callie's crate, sticking his fingers in between the holes to try to pet her.
"Not much we can do, is there?" Yoongi asked, handing Hoseok his phone back. "We're gonna have to try to find another one."
"There aren't that many around, are there?"
"Not at all." Yoongi sighed, sitting in front of Callie's crate. "Can you help me get her out?"

The next day, Yoongi woke up from his phone ringing. He recognized the number as Hoseok's, and answered.
"What?"
"There's a new vet that opened about ten minutes away from the apartment!" Hoseok said, way too cheerful for someone who's awake at eight in the morning.
"Hmm," Yoongi mumbled, still half asleep.
"Do you wanna try there today? They're open."
"Right now?" Yoongi asked, who hopedthat their business hours are different than their other vet's office.
"Yeah! They opened an hour ago. Come on, get ready. I'll drive you, but Namjoon is gonna have to pick you up." Yoongi muttered in understanding, then hung up the phone. He spotted Callie, who was sitting on top of his dresser, on his way to the shower.
"You're the only thing I'd ever get up this early for," Yoongi muttered.
An hour later, both Yoongi and Callie are ready to go to the new vets office. Yoongi loaded Callie into Hoseok's backseat and makes a failed attempt at buckling her in.
"I'm a much better driver than you think I am," Hoseok argued, then started the car.
"You run off of the road when you pass another car because you're scared you'll hit them," Yoongi said, buckling himself in.
"Listen, all I'm saying is that people drive way too close to the middle of the road. I don't want my car to get hit."
Callie cried the whole way down the road, which makes it a very annoying ten minutes("Just turn the volume up, Yoongi." "I don't want to hurt her ears!"). They finally get there, and pull into the small parking lot.
The building is an older looking building, with darkened wood framing the outside. Windows scatter the building, and it looks just good enough for Yoongi. He gets Callie out of the backseat while Hoseok goes inside to hold their place in line.
Yoongi carried Callie's crate from the bottom because he's scared she's too heavy for it(truth be told, Callie is a bit more overweight than a cat her age should be) into the building. He spotted Hoseok in the waiting room and sat beside him, then tucked Callie's crate underneath the chair. The waiting room wasn't too busy, thankfully. A couple of dogs were laying down, while another sat and barked at everything that crossed its path. One other person has a cat, and they seem to be asleep.
"Once you get back in a room, I'm gonna leave for work," Hoseok says, poking his finger into the crate. "Namjoon will pick you up, he said he'll be here around eleven." Namjoon was their friend, who's a music producer. A damn good one at that. Namjoon's loaded, and he paid for both Yoongi and Hoseok's apartments. Meanwhile, Hoseok was a receptionist at a doctor's office, and Yoongi delivered pizzas. Yoongi produced music as well, but he had nowhere the amount of success as Namjoon.
"Min Yoongi?" A vet assistant called, looking for him. Yoongi went to follow the vet assistant, and Hoseok waved bye before heading to his car. The vet assistant lead Yoongi to a room, tucked away in the back of the building. Yoongi looked through the windows of each room to find that more people have dogs than he would've thought.
"So, this is Callie?" The vet assistant- whose name is Taehyung, Yoongi reads from his nametag- asks. Yoongi nods. "Callie the calico cat." Taehyung smiles at himself in amusement. Yoongi blushes in embarrassment. He knew the name was stupid, but it stuck and he's called her Callie ever since "What's wrong with Callie?"
"She's throwing up again," Yoongi explained.
"Again?" Taehyung asked, then proceeded to write stuff down on an index card. Yoongi forgot that Callie had never been here before.
"Oh, yeah. She'll eat something weird about every month. I just really need medicine to give her."
"Oh, okay," Taehyung said, then brought out a scale from cabinets. He then began to weigh Callie. "Well, since she's new, she will have to see a vet. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, that's fine."
"I kind of have to tell you this, just so you're aware," Taehyung said, petting Callie. "We only have one certified veterinarian right now. But, we do have a vet intern. He's just as good as the certified veterinarian, he's just not certified and he's just getting experience in order to finish vet school. You'll end up seeing the veterinarian either way, but do you want to see the intern first?"
"Yeah, that's fine," Yoongi said. "She's a pretty simple case, might as well make one of his patients easier. Give him a little bit of a break." He realized that this could be an offensive statement, but instead of trying to correct himself, he just blushed a bit and pet Callie.
"Very true," Taehyung smiled. He didn't seem to take offense by it, much to Yoongi's relief. "His name is Jimin, and the veterinarian's name is Jin. They'll probably introduce themselves, but just giving you a heads up. They'll be in shortly!" Taehyung left the room, which just left Yoongi fighting to keep Callie from jumping off of the table. He heard distant barking, which was probably why Callie felt so scared.
Yoongi did nervous about just seeing an intern. What if Callie had really gotten into something and he missed it, even with the veterinarian checking behind him? Yoongi didn't have too long to worry about this, since two people entered the room about five minutes after Taehyung left.
"Hello! I'm Jimin," Jimin greeted, immediately going to Callie and petting her. Jimin was short, almost Yoongi's height. He had a very soft and kind face, and his eyes seemed to disappear when he smiled. If Yoongi already didn't know for a fact that he's gay, seeing Jimin just confirms it. "I don't know if Taehyung already told you, but I'm an intern. I technically can't officially diagnose Callie, so that's why I brought Jin along," he says, then pointed at Jin, who waved and smiled. Jin was much taller than both of them, and he had a very handsome face. Yoongi was most certainly coming back here, he decided. "Is that okay with you? Some people have a problem with an intern trying to treat their pets, so I'm just double-checking."
"No, yeah, no, that's fine," Yoongi said, who always found himself utterly useless when around new attractive people. He wished Hoseok was here to help him, since Yoongi always seemed to fumble during social situations. Jimin smiled at him, which made Yoongi panic even more, and began to examine Callie.
"So, she eat stuff regularly?" Yoongi nodded. "What does she eat?"
"Anything, really," Yoongi replied. "I think she ate some garland the other day."
"Okay," he said, feeling around her stomach. Callie looked unamused. "Well, I think she's a bit dehydrated-" Yoongi noticed Jin nodding behind Jimin, "-so I'll give her some fluids. Other than that, she seems pretty healthy. Do you want her to get an x-ray, just to be safe?"
"Uh, how much would that be?" Yoongi asked nervously. He barely has enough for the office visit.
"If you're worried about money, we don't have to do the x-ray," Jin piped up. "A lot of people ask for the x-ray when it's not really needed." Jin stepped up to examine Callie, and Jimin stepped out of the way, then gave Callie a small scratch on the head. "I think she's fine, personally."
"Yeah, I'm fine without the x-ray," Yoongi said, relieved.
"Jimin, could you go get her IV ready?" Jin asked Jimin, who nods and disappears into the back. "Thank you for letting him see Callie," Jin said.
"Oh, it's fine. I wanted to help him out." Yoongi gave a shy smile.
"He's only been getting big dogs for the past couple days, once of which almost toppled him over."
"German shepherd?"
"Oh yeah," Jin chuckled, then scribbled something down on Callie's index card. "I'll get you your medicine and you'll be ready to go." Yoongi nodded, and Jin disappeared through the door Jimin went out of. Suddenly, the front door opened, and Namjoon comes in.
"Hey," Yoongi said, who picked Callie up and set her back in the middle of the table for the fourth time in under a minute.
"Hey! How is she?" Namjoon asked, smiling. If Hoseok was the sunshine in Yoongi's life, Namjoon was like the beach. Namjoon always carried a very calming presence, despite being a tall, bulky man. Yoongi always felt very calm around Namjoon.
"Callie. She's fine, just ate some garland."
Namjoon bent down and rubbed Callie's head. "Got a bit too excited for Christmas?"
Jin came back in the room, carrying Callie's medicine. He seemed to do a bit of a double take when he saw Namjoon, but quickly brushed it off. "Here's her medicine," he said, handing Yoongi the bag. "Fill this syringe up to here-" Jin pointed to a spot on the syringe, "-and give it to her twice a day until the bottle runs out. Jimin will be back in a minute with her IV."
"Thank you," Namjoon said, smiling.
"No problem. I'm Jin," he said, then shook Namjoon's hand. Jin seemed to get flustered, since he repeated the instructions for the medicine again then left without another word.
"He thinks you're hot," Yoongi said, petting Callie.
"He does not," Namjoon said.
"Yes he does."
"No he doesn't."
"Yes he-"
"Are we in middle school again?" Namjoon asked, which made Yoongi chuckle. Jimin came back in, pushing the stand that the IV bag hangs from.
"Is she usually okay with IVs?" Jimin asked, trying to find where to stick Callie.
"Uh, I think so," Yoongi answered. "I kind of, um, leave the room when they have to give her fluids, so I don't really know."
"That's okay! We're about to find out either way," Jimin laughed, which was a really beautiful sound to Yoongi. "You can leave if you want to."
"Thank you," Yoongi muttered, ducking out of the room. He hated needles, and and he hated watching his cat being stuck with one even more. Thankfully, Callie had Namjoon, so he wasn't too worried.

A couple of minutes later, Namjoon poked his head out of the door to tell Yoongi that she's done with her IV. Namjoon and Yoongi wrestled Callie back into her crate, with Yoongi having to disassemble it yet again, and head to Namjoon's car.
"The new vet's cool," Namjoon said, hoping to get some form of conversation.
"Which one?"
"Well, both of them are, but I've never really seen an intern before. I didn't think vets had interns."
"Yeah, he's cool," Yoongi muttered, trying to ignore Callie from the backseat.
"You think he's cute."
"I do not!"
"Yes you do."
"No I don't."
"Yes you-"
"'Are we in middle school again?'" Yoongi mocks, making Namjoon laugh. Truth be told, Yoongi does think Jimin is cute, but he'd never admit it. At least, not to Namjoon.

Notes:

Thank you for reading!
Callie is inspired by my actual cat, named Scooter. He loves to get into things, and we normally have to end up taking him to the vet about once a month or so.
Thanks again for reading! I'll try to update as soon as possible! :)
