Chapter 1: (0) Arriving at UA

Chapter Text

You are dead. Pretty crazy, huh? We get so used to our day to day lives, we sometimes forget our own mortality, that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Ah well, not much you could do about it now. You are dead, after all. Luckily, that isn’t the end of your story. It’d be pretty lame if it was, a short one too. You get another chance at life. See, when someone does something really kind, really selfless they get rewarded in the long run. Your actions in this life effect what happens to you in the next. It’s called karma, see. And you, my dear, committed the greatest act in your previous life. You had saved the life of another, a precious life that because of the second chance you allowed, will be able to go on and do great things for the world. However, the cost of a human life is great, for what could equal a human life other than another one?

And that brings us to right now. Your next life won’t be like your last. You know that anime you like so much, My Hero Academia? You’re next life will be in that world. Don’t you wonder what it would be like to have a quirk? Do you want the opportunity to become a professional hero? After all, saving a child from certain death is down right heroic, don’t you think? Why not put that to good use?

So this will be your new life. Don’t worry, you won’t have to start completely over. Just about the age of a second year entering UA. I won’t throw you in there blind. You’ll have some basic information. Your name is L/n F/n and you are a transfer student from another country. You’ll be staying in the dorms on campus for your stay. Your quirk is a rather fun one, I would say. After all, what would be more fun than being a human volcano? Essentially, you are able to secrete molten lava from your palms, which means a byproduct of your quirk is your ability to withstand intense heat. That’s not to say you can’t get burned at all, you merely have a higher tolerance than most.

So, that’s about it, I think. You know your name, quirk, and where you’re going… Oh, I suppose it’d be helpful for you to know Japanese, huh? Being in Japan and all. You’ll be able to speak and write pretty fluently, but you’re not a native speaker by any means. You’ll have to put some effort in here if you want to get far. Oh, and when you wake up, you’re not going to have any knowledge of your past life. That includes the story of My Hero. Can’t have you knowing everything about everybody before they meet you, now can we? That’d just be unfair.

Alright. Now I think that’s it. When you come to, you’ll be on a plane to Musutafu, so don’t freak out, okay? Cool. Well, what are you waiting for? Off you go!

You wake up from your nap with a start as a voice announces the plane’s descent. Blinking your eyes, you glance out the plane window to see the blinking lights of a large city stand out in the dim evening light. You stretch and are incredibly grateful that the school you’re heading to was kind enough to book you a first class seat. After all, it was a twelve hour flight. The plane’s landing gear deployed and soon enough touched ground. You merely watch out the window as the plane taxied to the gate.

Once the pilot announced passengers may depart, you stand up and open the overhead to get your carry on bag. You smiled at the stewardess as you exit and made your way to go pick up the rest of your luggage and where someone from the school would be waiting.  As you walked, you observed the people around you. It was so different than back in your home country. Adjusting the strap of your bag on your shoulder, you continued on.

Luggage slowly spun around on the belt as you patiently waited for your bags to appear. While waiting, a very loud voice caught your attention. “L/N Y/N!” Turning around, startled, you saw a blonde man with very… loud hairstyle waving obnoxiously. He was closely followed by a tired looking man who definitely did not want to be there. “Glad to see you made it safely!” Oh, he spoke English really well. He must be from the school. You smiled and waved back.

“Thank you. It was a pretty boring flight, which is a good thing I guess.”   The blonde man laughed loudly. That seemed to be his thing, loud. The dark haired man beside him stepped forward.

“I’m your homeroom teacher, Aizawa.” He nodded to the other. “This is your English teacher, Yamada.”

“Just call me Present Mic!” You spotted your bags and picked them up, placing your carry on bag atop one of the larger, wheeled ones.

“All set,” you said with a smile. Present Mic grinned while Aizawa merely turned and motioned for them to follow.

“Let’s go then. It’s getting late.” You followed him as Present Mic chatted away in English beside you.

“I’ll have to give you different homework in my class or else you’ll be bored .” You smiled.

“I mean, I can always get better at writing. My hiragana and katakana are pretty good, but my kanji’s still a little… uh, not nearly as good?” He laughed and patted you on the shoulder.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get better with practice! I’m sure some of the other students wouldn’t mind helping you out. And you could help them with their work too!” You nodded, smiling.

“Yeah!” The three of your made your way through the extensive parking lot before finally stopping at an unassuming grey car. Present Mic helped put your bags in the trunk before hopping in the driver’s seat. Once everyone was all buckled in, you made your way onto the road. Mic continued to talk as he drove while Aizawa fell asleep within minutes. You only half listened to Mic, watching the city fly by.

About an hour later, the sun had nearly set and the car finally pulled up to a large campus. Mic swiped a card and the ridiculously large gates opened, allowing them to drive through. The car parked, and the three of you got out. Mic helped carry your bags as Aizawa led you into one of the buildings. After taking an elevator to the second floor, you finally stopped outside a door. Aizawa pulled a key out of his pocket and opened the door, revealing an empty dorm.

“This’ll be your dorm for the year,” he said as you and Mic set your bags down. “Class starts on Monday, so you’ll have tomorrow to settle in and unpack. You should have your schedule in your school email.”

“If you need anything, Aizawa and I will be on campus this weekend,” Mic adds, “The other students will be moving in tomorrow so you’ll be able to meet your classmates before Monday.”

“Everyone in 2-A will be on floors one and two,” Aizawa said, handing you your key. You smiled and thanked them both. After they left, you turned and surveyed your dorm. It wasn’t large by any means, but certainly not tiny. You'd say about the size of your bedroom back home, if not slightly larger.  As tired as you were, you need to do some unpacking. At the very least, you need your bed made so you weren’t sleeping on just a mattress.

By the time your bed had sheets, comforter, and pillows, it was eleven and you were exhausted from your journey.  With the decision you’d finish unpacking tomorrow, you changed into your pajamas and collapsed on your bed, quickly falling asleep.

The next morning, you were awakened by many voices. Getting out of bed, you opened your door and peeked out to see other students with boxes and bags walking in and out of the other dorms. Aizawa did say the others would be moving in today. You glanced at the time and saw it was 9:30. Oh, you slept in a bit. A voice beside you caught your attention.

“Oh, are you new?” Turning around, you saw a brown haired girl with pink cheeks smiling brightly at you. You couldn’t help but smile back.

“Uh, yeah. I’m L/n, got here yesterday.” Her eyes widened slightly.

“You have an accent!” You blinked.

“Uh, yes?” She shook her head.

“It’s not a bad thing! I just didn’t realize! You’re not from Japan, are you?” You laughed a bit and shook your head.

“No. I transferred to finish off high school here.” The girl grinned.

“I’m Uraraka! Welcome to 2-A!” Her welcome caught the attention of a few others and you quickly found yourself surrounded by several students. A pink haired girl leaned forward with a large grin.

“Hiya! I’m Ashido! This is Tsuyu and Yaoyorozu! Heard you’re new!” You took a step back to regain your personal space.

“It’s nice to meet you. I’m L/n.”

“Perhaps we should let L/n-san get ready for the day before crowding her,” the dark haired girl, Yaoyorozu, suggested, nodding to your mismatched pajamas. You felt your face flush and Ashido relented.

“Alright. We’ll meet you down in the commons for breakfast then! Then you can meet everyone!” With that settled, you returned to your dorm to actually make yourself presentable to the public. Ten minutes later, you found yourself eating breakfast with Ashido, Uraraka, Tsuyu (who insisted you just call her Tsu), and Yaoyorozu. The rest of the class slowly made their way down. The first to appear were three boys, one of which noticed you immediately. He was by your side in an instant.

“Well, hello there. What’s your name?” Ashido smacked the back of his head and he pouted.

“Leave L/n-chan alone, Kaminari. She just got here.” She turned to you and smiled. “Don’t mind him, he flirts with all the girls. That’s Sero and Kirishima,” she introduced, pointing at the boys respectively. Sero waved while Kirishima sat down across from you at the table.

“I didn’t know we were getting a new student,” he said happily.

“I just transferred,” you explained. His eyes widened.

“Whoa! Your accent is so cool!” You could feel your face heat up a bit.

“Is-is it really that noticeable?” Kirishima seemed to notice your self consciousness and waved his hands frantically while shaking his head.

“It’s not a bad thing!” he added quickly, “It’s just different, but in a good way!” You couldn’t help but laugh at that.

“Thanks, I guess?”

More people came down and you were slowly introduced to everyone. The blonde, who Ashido said was Bakugou, didn’t seem all that excited to meet you, but Tsu said that he’s just really competitive and sees you as more competition. You weren’t quite sure how to feel about that. The boy name Todoroki didn’t really speak much, but his friend Midoriya sure did. After getting over his initial surprise, he was soon asking you a million questions about yourself, your home country, and most of all, your quirk.

“So, L/n-san, what’s your quirk?” That question caught everyone’s attention. Uraraka nudged you excitedly.

“Yeah, you never said.”

“Ah,” you oh so eloquently said, “It’s uh, lava.” Midoriya leaned forward and whipped a notebook out of seemingly thin air.

“What do you mean?” he asked, pencil already writing away. You blinked and glanced at Tsu, who gave you a look that essentially meant, ‘this is normal for him’ and decided to indulge.

“Well, basically I can secrete lava from my hands.”

“You can what?” Kaminari asked, eyes wide. You figured it would be easier to show than explain, so you held out your palms and activated your quirk. Bright, molten lava began to bubble up from your pores and pool in your hands. You glanced up to see several of your classmates staring at you. Now a bit self conscious, you allowed the lava to seep back into your skin until your hands were empty.

“That’s amazing!” Kirishima exclaimed.

“How does your body make the lava? How are you able to withstand the heat? Is it attached to your sweat glands like Kachan’s or does it come from somewhere else? How-”

“Midoriya.” Todoroki cut him off and the green haired boy looked at you sheepishly.

“Sorry.” You couldn’t help but smile.

“It’s fine. Just one at a time, yeah?” You answered Midoriya’s questions patiently. A few stuck around to hang out in the commons while others went back up to their rooms or left the building to go off somewhere else. You found yourself getting accustomed to your new surroundings pretty quickly, though it really helped that Ashido and Uraraka were intent on making you feel as welcomed as possible. "After all," they had said, "we're gonna be here for the next two years! So you might as well get comfortable now!" You could only laugh and thank them.

Later that afternoon, you were talking with Midoriya, Iida, and Uraraka in the commons when Kirishima approached you. “Hey, L/n! You wanna come train with me and Bakugou? Get a little bit of practice in before classes start?” You glanced at your new friends before looking back to the smiling redhead to reply.

Do you:

  1. Stay with Midoriya, Iida, and Uraraka
  2. Go with Kirishima

Option 1 - Stay with Midoriya, Iida, and Uraraka

You smiled at Kirishima and shook your head. “No thanks, Kirishima. I kinda just wanna relax before classes start. I’m still recovering from a twelve hour flight.” Kirishima smiled kindly.

“No problem, L/n! Some other time, yeah?”

“Absolutely.” Kirishima waved and left. Uraraka turned to you with a smile.

“So, L/n-chan, is Japan really different compared to your country?” You chuckled and leaned back into the couch.

“I mean, obviously the language is different, but there certainly is a slight culture shock.”

“How so?” Iida asked.You hummed.

“Well, for one people are a lot more polite. Not that people back home aren’t, it’s just… when you’re out in public, people tend to be more respectful and considerate of others.”

“Like what?” asked Midoriya.

“Like talking on the phone in public for one. Here people try not to bother others and keep their voices down. You go anywhere back home, people just do their own thing and don’t really try to keep their voices down unless they’re in certain places like churches or cemeteries. Most people are really polite when talking too, especially to strangers. It’s not a bad thing, just kinda takes me by surprise.”

“Why is that?” Iida asks, his arms doing odd gestures that you have already gotten used to.

“If you go out in my country, especially the city, and say bump into someone on the sidewalk, they’d most likely give you a dirty look or cuss you out. To be fair, I grew up in a very big city where people kind of have a reputation for being rude.”

“I do not think you are anything close to rude, L/n-san!” Iida declared, his arms chopping the air dramatically. You couldn’t help but laugh.

“Thank you, Iida.”

“How long have you been learning Japanese?” Uraraka asked, curious, “You speak really well.” You felt your face flush a bit.

“Ah, a few years now. I really cracked down on my studying last year since I knew I’d be transferring. But I’m a lot better speaking than I am writing.”

“I’m sure it’ll improve over time,” Midoriya said kindly, “especially since you’ll be doing more writing with homework.”

“That’s right! All you need is more practice!” Iida declared. Uraraka giggled and nudged your arm.

“Hey, why don’t we order lunch? We could get pizza or something.”

“I’ll pay,” Todoroki said, speaking for the first time since the group and gathered. You blinked at him in surprise.

“Are you sure, Todoroki-kun?” you asked, “I don’t mind pitching in.” He met your eyes, his expression completely unreadable.

“It’s alright. I have my father’s credit card number memorized.” His voice was completely monotone. You… didn’t know how to respond to that. You glanced to Midoriya for an explanation. He fidgeted.

“Ah, Todoroki-kun doesn’t… really like his father…” Todoroki merely nodded.

“I do not,” he affirmed. You blinked before nodding slowly.

“Alright… So, uh, what kind of pizza do we want?” As everyone figured out what to get, you looked up pizza places that delivered to UA. When the order was finally decided (Uraraka convincing Iida that an oreo dessert pizza was, in fact, completely necessary), Midoriya called the place you had found and placed the order. He handed the phone to Todoroki, who rattled off a string of numbers. You leaned over to Midoriya and whispered, “Does his dad know that he does this?” Midoriya shook his head.

“I… don’t think so? Even if he did and got a new card, Todoroki-kun would find out.” You arched an eyebrow.

“Isn’t that… technically credit card fraud?”

“Yes,” Todoroki answered, handing Midoriya back his phone. He didn’t elaborate any further so you let it go.

“How long for delivery?” you asked, choosing to change the subject.

“Forty-five minutes,” Midoriya answered, “roughly anyway.”

“Why don’t we play a game while we wait?” Uraraka suggested, “I know Sero keeps his Playstation in the commons for us to share.”

“That’s really cool of him,” you said, “What games do we have to choose from?”

“Street Fighter, Mario Kart, and Super Smash are the main multiplayer games.”

“I’m down for Mario Kart,” you offer and Midoriya nods.

“Me too!”

“I, too, would like to play.” Todoroki merely nodded his assent and Uraraka grinned.

“Alright! I’ll get it all set up. Deku-kun, could you bring the soda from the fridge out here?”

“Sure thing, Uraraka-san.” The five of you settled and and were about halfway through your tournament when Midoriya’s phone went off, signalling the delivery driver was waiting. He answered the phone and headed down to greet the driver. He came back a few minutes later carrying three boxes, two pizzas and one dessert pizza, and placed them on the coffee table.

As everyone dug in, the green haired boy turned to his friend with an odd look. “Todoroki-kun, the driver said he was very grateful for the ‘very generous tip’.” The quiet teen merely took a bite of his pizza. You dared to ask the question everyone was thinking.

“...How much?” Todoroki glanced at you.

“10,000 yen.”*

“Jesus Christ,” you muttered. Todoroki just shrugged and continued to eat.

“Uraraka-san, you should at least eat your pizza before dessert!” Iida scolded, but the brunette didn’t seem bothered as she stuffed her face with oreo dessert pizza.

“If we’re eating junk, might as well go all out!” she declared.

“The pizza at least has some sustenance! What you are eating is pure sugar!”

“But it tastes so good!” You and Midoriya could only laugh at the exchange. The tournament resumed and you couldn’t help but think you really lucked out by meeting such wonderful people. And to think, you had been nervous about making new friends.

When the tournament ended, Uraraka found herself in first place, followed by Midoriya in second, you in third, Todoroki in fifth, and Iida tenth. You couldn’t help but laugh at Uraraka’s victory dance, offering her the last slice of dessert pizza, the decided prize for the first place winner.

“My rightful trophy!” she declared before shoving the entire slice into her mouth. Iida began lecturing her, but she ignored him, holding both her arms up in victory as she chewed. You shook your head and downed the rest of your soda.

“Well that was fun. I haven’t played Mario Kart in a hot minute.”

“Are you done unpacking, L/n-chan?” Uraraka asked. You blinked before grinning sheepishly.

“Oh, unpacking, right… Yeah, no my stuff’s still in my bags. I got here pretty late last night so all I was able to do really was get my bed made and change into pajamas.

“You should unpack! You certainly won’t feel like it after classes tomorrow.” You nodded.

“Yeah, you’re right. It’s just kinda a lot, you know?”

“I can help you,” she offered and you couldn’t help but smile.

“Yeah, actually. That’d be nice.” The two of you told the guys you’d see them later and headed up to your room.

Upon entering, Uraraka gave a whistle at the sight of your four large bags. “You managed to pack everything you need for a whole year in just that?” You laughed and unzipped the duffle bag, pulling out tightly packed clothes.

“My Tetris skills are wild.” She laughed and helped put your fall and winter clothes in the dresser and closet. You then found and packed away all your spring and summer clothes in the now empty bag and slid it under your bed for the season. Once that was done, you unpacked all your school things. Uraraka helped organize them all on your desk while you placed smaller, more sentimental items around the room. When Uraraka turned to ask what she should do next, she spotted something on your nightstand.

“Is that a little volcano?” You laughed and picked up the little figure.

“Heh, yea. My dad gave it to me when my quirk manifested. Always said I was a ‘human volcano.’ I couldn’t not bring it with me.” Your fingers traced the lines of lava running down the mountain before setting it back down.

“That’s really sweet.”

“It was my favorite thing when I was a kid. Still is, honestly. It’s kind of silly, isn’t it? I mean, it a six dollar volcano from a museum gift shop.” Uraraka shook her head.

“It’s not silly at all! It means something to you and reminds you of your family and who you are. It’s important to have things like that, I think.” You smiled.

“Thank you, Uraraka-chan.” She grinned brightly.

“No problem! Now let’s get your room finished!” As the two of you got the rest of your things unpacked, Uraraka told you all about everyone in the class, getting you up to speed on everything you missed last year.

“Midoriya-kun’s really smart! He’s just a little awkward sometimes, though he’s gotten a lot better since last year.”

“Oh?’ you asked, arching an eyebrow. Uraraka giggled, flopping down next to you on the bed.

“Yeah, he couldn’t really talk to girls at first. Like, at all. I mean, he was nervous around everyone, but especially girls.” You couldn’t help but snort at that.

“Sounds like a typical high school freshman guy.” Uraraka blinked.

“Freshman?” she asked.

“Oh, freshman is what we call first year in high school back home. Although, technically it would be second year because high school here only goes from first to third year.”

“How does high school work where you live?”

“Four years. Freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.” She hummed thoughtfully.

“So this is technically your third year in high school?” You nodded.

“Pretty much, yeah.”

“Weird.” You laughed.

“It is, isn’t it? And when you graduate from middle school, you don’t really shop around for high schools like you do here.”

“You don’t?”

“No, you just go to whatever high school is in your school district. I lived in South Bend , so I went to South Bend elementary, middle, and high school. You don’t shop around for schools until college.”

“So what high school you go to doesn’t affect what college you go to?”

“No, not really. I mean, some people go to really expensive, uppity private high schools and I guess that might make colleges look at you a little differently? But overall, not really. They mainly look at your scores and entry paper.”

“Wow. Wait, UA is one of those uppity, private high schools, isn’t it?” You laughed.

“I mean, yeah it kinda is. But its hero program has a great track record so I guess it earned it?”

“Mmm.”

“Hey, Uraraka-chan?”

“Yeah?”

“... Why does Todoroki hate his dad so much?” Uraraka’s face fell, giving a small, sad sigh.

“Well, his dad is a really big pro hero, Endeavor. I don’t know all the details, but he didn’t really treat Todoroki-kun very well, at all. Midoriya-kun told me his dad’s trying to make up for it now, but it’s still pretty rough.” You quirked your mouth in thought.

“Is that why he’s so quiet?” She nodded.

“I think so. He’s changed a lot too, since last year. He used to barely say a word. He’s still not much of a talker, but he’ll engage conversations now. Like today when we were playing Mario Kart.” You nodded, thinking to yourself. Uraraka noticed your newfound silence and rolled onto her side to face you. “Whatcha thinking?”

“I dunno. I mean, I had a lot of fun meeting and hanging out with everyone today, but I guess I’m still a little worried for tomorrow?”

“About what? Class?” You shrugged.

“A little bit, but mainly fitting in? It’s all starting to settle in now. I mean, new school, new country, new people... I guess I’m a little out of my element.” Uraraka smiled and rolled on top of you, smothering you in a hug.

“Don’t worry, L/n-chan! You’re really cool and everyone’s excited to get to know you! We’ll help you feel right at home!” You laughed and hugged her back.

“Thanks, Uraraka-chan. That means a lot.” She lifted her head to grin down at you.

“You’ll love it here! I promise!”

The next day, you got ready, shoved a breakfast bar in your mouth, and made your way to class. On your way, you saw Uraraka and Midoriya who slowed down so you could catch up and walk with them.

“Morning, L/n-chan!” Uraraka greeted, “Ready for class?” You shrugged.

“Ready as I’ll get. Not exactly a morning person.” Midoriya laughed.

“Neither are a lot of others. There’s a vending machine with iced coffee and teas if you want to get something before class.” You smiled gratefully at him.

“That sounds fantastic.” He and Uraraka led you to the vending machine where you got your caffeinated drink of choice before arriving at the classroom. Sliding the door open, you saw familiar faces of those you were previously introduced to and a few new ones. You sat down at a desk between Todoroki and Midoriya and cracked your drink open. Todoroki gave you a silent nod in greeting, which you returned. The soft calm chatter of the room was broken when Present Mic slammed the door open screaming good morning.

The day went by relatively quickly. You ate lunch with Uraraka, Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida. The food at UA was much better than that at your old school. When you mention so, Iida went on about how it only made sense that the number one ranked high school for heroics offered healthy and nutritious meals for its students. You spotted Uraraka muffling her giggles and couldn’t help but feel part of the group.

When the school day was over, you had planned on going back to your room to start on homework. When you said so, Midoriya asked if you wanted to work on it with him and Todoroki, but Uraraka had invited you earlier over to her dorm to hang out with some of the other girls.

Do you:

(3) Work on Homework with Midoriya and Todoroki

(4) Hang Out with the Girls

Notes:

* 10,000 yen is approximately $100

I know it's been basically a month since I posted, but now that classes are done, I'll hopefully be able to write more often. Thanks for all your patience and support! Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas or possible relationship arcs you think I should add, let me know.
Much Love,

Option 2 - Go with Kirishima

“Actually, that sounds pretty fun.” You turned to the others. “I’ll catch you guys later, okay?” Midoriya and Uraraka smiled while Iida and Todoroki nodded.

“Sure thing, L/n-chan!” the bubbly girl called as you got up and followed Kirishima to the gym.

“Have you trained your quirk much, L/n?” he asked. You made a vague gesture with your hand.

“I mean, a little? My school back home wasn’t exactly UA, but we got to spar with each other using our quirks a bit. We mainly focused on hand to hand, cardio, and weight training.” Kirishima nodded.

“Well, here you’ll be doing a lot more than that! We have whole classes dedicated to stealth or rescue. Sometimes we team up to learn how to strategize with different quirks.” You smiled.

“I’m honestly really excited. I know it’ll be a lot more work, but I’ll learn so much more.” Kirishima  grinned, sharp teeth glinting in the sun.

“I’m super excited too! Especially since we’re second years now, I’m sure training will be even more intense!” You couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm.

“I bet.” The two of you entered the gym building and Kirishima led you to one of the rooms where Bakugou was waiting.

“Fucking took you long enough, Shitty Hair!” Kirishima gave a sheepish smile.

“Sorry, bro. I figured I’d ask L/n if she wanted to join and she did!” Bakugou turned his gaze to you, his eyes narrowed.

“Oh yea? Alright then, Lava Rock. You and me will go first. Winner takes Shitty Hair.” You arched an eyebrow at the nickname and glanced at Kirishima, who merely shrugged and sat down to watch. Realizing that this was, in fact, happening, you shrugged your jacket off and laid it on the ground next to Kirishima. Donned in a black tank and leggings, you turned and walked over to Bakugou.

“Just so you know, I haven’t done much sparring lately.”

“Tch, don’t expect me to go easy on you.” You couldn’t help but laugh.

“Oh, never.” With that, he ran at you. It was at this moment you realized you didn’t know what Bakugou’s quirk was and thus, didn’t know what to expect. He quickly fixed that for you as a large explosion went off far too close to comfort. Oh, so he was a human bomb. Perfect, just perfect. You managed to dodge another explosion and blocked his blow with your forearm. So he was an offensive fighter. Alright, you could work with that.

You took on a defensive strategy, choosing to only block and dodge. That only seemed to piss the blonde off, causing him to throw even harder punches. “Fucking attack already!” he yelled, as you dodged once more. “Fight me, damnit!” Spotting a potential angle, you continued dodging and blocking, allowing him to grow more and more frustrated. You waited for his attacks to become sloppy or tired, but Bakugou was anything but unpredictable.

His hand shot out too fast for you to dodge and grabbed your upper arm. An explosion went off against your skin, smoke eveloping you both. “L/n!” Kirishima yelled, standing up in alarm. Bakugou froze, quickly letting you go.

“Shit! Fuck, are you-” He was cut off as you grabbed his arm and threw him over your shoulder, slamming his back to the ground. With the wind knocked out of him, all Bakugou could do was stare up at you wide eyed. The smoke began to dissipate around you as you panted heavily.

“L/n!” Kirishima yelled, running up to the both of you, “Are you okay? You-” he stopped when his eyes landed on the arm Bakugou had grabbed. Instead of a bloody wound, your arm was encased with a layer of cooled lava, creating rocklike armor. You cracked a grin and laughed as the lava began to heat up and liquify, slowly dripping down your arm and sinking back into your palms.

“You almost had me for a second there,” you laughed, offering the blonde a hand. Bakugou didn’t take it, standing up and shoving his hands in his pockets.

“S’your turn,” he said, nodding to Kirishima. Bakugou glanced at you before turning to sit on the sidelines. “Guess your not a waste of space after all,” he muttered. Once he sat down, you turned to Kirishima, who smiled happily.

“Oh man, that’s so manly and cool!” You blinked and tilted your head as you retranslated what he said in your head. Did he just call you… manly? “You ready, L/n?” You shook your head and got into position. Whatever, you’d question it later. Grinning, you gave the redhead an affirmative and the fight began.

You quickly discovered his hardening quirk and began to strategize. You couldn’t keep your armor up constantly while fighting, it took too much out of you. Direct attacks at him would be a waste of energy. You decided that containment was your best option. If you could just aim a careful shot of cooled lava at his feet, he wouldn’t be able to move. As you avoided and blocked his blows, you kept an eye out for possible openings. Unfortunately, any time you spotted one Kirishima quickly distracted you before you could focus enough to aim a shot.

Just as your hand began to seep lava, he managed to knock you down. Before you even had a chance to think his hands slammed over your wrists, rocklike fingers digging into the ground, restraining you.

You left out a breathless laugh and laid your head on the ground in defeat. “Alright, alright. You win.” Kirishima released his quirk and let you go. Smiling down at you, he offered a hand which you gratefully took. “Damn, you’re strong.” Kirishima laughed and rubbed the back of his neck.

“Heh, thanks L/n.” You turned to Bakugou and waved him over.

“You’re turn, Bakugou-kun.” He grunted and stood up, walking over. You took a seat and watched the two guys spar. Their fight lasted much longer than either of your, but then again they’ve been training together for a whole year. As you watched, you took mental notes on their fighting styles and abilities. Eventually, Kirishima managed to pin the blonde to the ground. You glanced at your phone and noticed it was just passed noon. “You guys hungry at all? It’s basically lunch.”

“Starving!” Kirishima groaned. Bakugou clicked his tongue.

“Come on then. I’ll fix lunch.” Kirishima let out a shout of excitement as you followed them back to the dorms.

“Bakugou’s a really good cook! All his food is amazing!”

“Shut it, Shitty Hair! S’not my fault you can’t cook for shit.” The redhead just grinned at you. By the red tinging the blonde’s ears, you wondered if his grumpy attitude was just a cover for embarrassment. The knowing grin on Kirishima’s face certainly alluded to it. Bakugou refused any help in the kitchen, so you and Kirishima joined Ashido and Sero in the commons.

“How was sparring?” Sero asked. Kirishima’s grin widened.

“Great! L/n’s really fast on her feet.”

“You trained with Bakugou and Kirishima?” Ashido asked. You nodded.

“Yeah, it was really fun, actually. Haven’t done anything like that since last school year, so I was a little rusty.”

“Well, you better get back in it quick. First day of class is tomorrow and we may have a gym class,” Ashido winked. You laughed and leaned you head back on the couch.

“Yeah. ‘Cept I’m pretty gross now. I’ll probably take a shower after lunch. After that, I should finish unpacking. I doubt I’ll want to after classes.”

“You’re not unpacked yet?” Sero asked. You shook your head.

“Got here pretty late yesterday. Was too tired to do much.”

“And then you got bombarded by everyone this morning,” he finished for you.

“Hey! We did not bombard her!” Ashido protested. Sero arched a brow and glanced at you. You only grinned. “Anyway, I could help you unpack if you want, L/n-chan,” she offered. You smiled at her gratefully.

“I’d actually really appreciate that, Ashido-chan.” Bakugou angrily announced lunch was ready and Ashido cheered.

“Oi! Not for you, Raccoon Eyes!”

“Oh, come on, Bakugou! You always make plenty of food!”

“Yeah, man. Share a little.”

“No! Make your own lunch, extras!” he shouted, setting three plates down at the counter bar. As you and Kirishima sat down, Ashido’s eyes lit up mischievously.

“Oh, so you won’t make lunch for us but you will for L/n-chan?” Bakugou’s eyes narrowed.

“She trained with me and Shitty Hair. She needs to fucking eat. Your lazy ass can make your own damn lunch.” You looked to Kirishima who was already digging in and assumed this sort of exchange was normal. As you ate, you couldn’t help agree with the redhead. Bakugou’s food was really good. Like, amazing. No wonder everyone got excited when he cooked.

Ashido and Sero did end up making their own lunch and sat down to join you. “So L/n-chan, how are you liking UA so far?” Sero asked.

“I mean, classes don’t start till tomorrow, but the place is pretty cool. The gyms are stupid huge.” Ashido grinned.

“Isn’t great? There’s so much room to move and use your quirk!”

“I’m sure they have to fix  them up pretty often.”

“Cement Toss usually takes care of any major damages,” Sero explained, “Especially with Mr. Lord Explosion Murder over here.” He nodded towards Bakugou who yelled at him to shut up. You looked to Kirishima in confusion.

“Lord Explosion Murder?” Kirishima grinned.

“Bakugou’s original hero name he came up with.”

“Shut it, Shitty Hair!” The redhead only grinned.

“Alright then,” you said, continuing to eat. Ashido cackled and nudged Sero, the two exchanging looks. Deciding not to question their seemingly telepathic communication, you finished your meal and Ashido offered to show you where the showers were.

“I can’t believe you trained before classes started. Today’s supposed to be your last day of summer!” You laughed.

“I figured I might as well. Besides, it was pretty fun.” Ashido raised a brow.

“Training with Bakugou was fun?” You shrugged.

“I mean, he was a little moody, I guess but that seems to be his normal” Ashido laughed. “And Kirishima’s nice. They’re both good fighters and it brought back all my muscle memory from last year.”

“They’re pretty passionate, huh?” You laughed.

“That’s certainly a word for it.” Ashido told you to come get her in her room when you were done showering to help unpack. The hot water felt like bliss against your sore muscles and you were back to feeling like a human in no time. Once all the sweat and dirt was washed away, you got dressed and found Ashido playing a game on her phone on her bed.

The two of you made quick work with your things, Ashido simply asking where you wanted things and helping hang up posters and the like. The empty dorm was becoming more and more like a bedroom, and before you knew it you were storing your now empty bags away. “Thanks a lot, Ashido-chan,” you said gratefully, sitting down in your bed, “It would’ve taken me a lot longer on my own. She waved a hand dismissively as she spun in your desk chair.

“Don’t worry about it, L/n-chan! Moving to a different school is hard enough. You’re in a whole different country.” You laughed and laid down.

“You’re right. I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous. All my childhood friends are back home, people I’ve known all my life. I don’t really know anyone here. Gotta start all over.” Ashido frowned and stopped spinning to look at you.

“Hey now! Don’t say that! Plenty of people already like you! I mean, you trained with Bakugou and Kirishima for how long?”

“Mm, about two hours?” She nodded.

“Exactly! Hell, Bakugou made you lunch! You have know idea how much we have to pester him to cook for us. Means he respects you.”

“I guess.”

“You’re acting like we’re not going to make you hang out after school and eat lunch with us.” You blinked.

“Wait, make?” Ashido grinned, leaning back in the chair and held her arms out.

“Welcome to Bakusquad, L/n-chan! Once you join, there’s no leaving!” Laughing, you shook your head.

“Bakusquad?”

“Sero started it to piss bakugou off. It just sorta stuck.”

“Well, alright then.” You had a feeling that was something you’d say often with this group.

The next morning, after you had gotten ready, you opened your door to find Ashido and Kirishima at your door. “Morning L/n-chan!” Ashido greeted, handing you a can of coffee from the vending machine and a granola bar.

“M-morning,” you said, taking the offerings, “What’s all this?”

“The Bakusquad takes care of each other,” she told you.

“Yeah! You’re one of us now!” Kirishima agreed.

“Now come on!” Ashido urged, grabbing your arm, “The others are already there!” You barely had time to grab your bag and lock your door before you were dragged away by the force of friendship that was Ashido Mina. Upon entering the classroom, you were directed to sit down at a desk next to Sero and Ashido and behind Kirishima.

“Morning,” Sero grinned with a knowing glint in his eye, “How’d you like your wake up call?”

“I mean, I got a free coffee out of it?” you said, still unsure of what exactly just happened. Sero laughed.

“You’ll get used to it.”

Ashido was not kidding when she said you were part of Bakusquad. When lunch came around, you were once more dragged along and found yourself eating amongst the group you had come to know in such a short amount of time. Kaminari and Sero debated about a video game while Ashido seemed hellbent on annoying Bakugou. Kirishima maintained damage control between the two, mainly on Bakugou’s end. You were content to just observe and occasionally egg the pink girl on, if not for curiosity’s sake.

When school let out for the day, you walked back to the dorms with your newfound friend group.

“Man, I thought English was hard last year!” Kirishima complained, “Did you see the homework Present Mic gave us?” Kaminari nodded.

“Yeah! Like, what gives? It’s the first day.”

“Maybe if you actually paid attention in class, you wouldn’t be so fucking lost.” Bakugou grunted.

“I bet English was a breeze for you, Y/n-chan,” Ashido said. You gave a small laugh.

“Yeah, no. Present Mic wouldn’t let me get away with that. I’ve got Japanese homework.”

“Oh! That makes sense.”

“Hey Ashido, Sero,” Kaminari piped up, “Wanna play Street Fighter?”

“Hell yeah,” Sero grinned. The two high fived as Ashido leaned over to you.

“You know, any one of us would totally help you out with your homework if you want, but Bakugou was top of the class last year. If you ask, he’ll act all bothered but he won’t say no.” You think to yourself.

Wow, wow. Finally an update! Thanks for all the kind and encouraging messages. I know this story is a big endeavor and I am probably actually insane to try and make it work, but I just love the concept too much. Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas or character relationships I should add, just let me know.

As a note, there will eventual smut with each possible character relationship but this will be a slow burn. If you have any characters you think should be a romance option, let me know and I'll do what I can
