EAD 2021: When do Good Men go to War?

Summary:

Severus was too smart to bow and scrape at any mad man's robes. He had a plan to disappear but ran straight smack into Tony.

The only trouble is a certain Orphan will turn two university students attentions back onto the UK and is Magical Britain ready for two good men ready to go war?

Notes:

As per normal, this does have the normal EAD warnings attached but it is a story that I really want to expand to track just how different Harry's life would be ... There has been a previous but this is the first chapter of a story that has a rough 9 chapter outline

... I should point out each outline for a Tony/HP character has often doubled in size.

Chapter 1: One Door Closes

Chapter Text

Chapter One: One door closes

Severus’ mind was racing. He’d overheard the conversation between his mother and stepfather. They intended to offer up his potion skills to the Dark Lord. Severus needed a plan and fast. He wasn’t stupid and had no intention of following his circle of friends or his stepfather and scraping the floor to kiss the robes of a mad man.

He needed a second opinion so threw open his floo connection to Lily.

“Can I come through?”

His best-friend nodded, she had obviously sensed his distress. “Sure.”

Severus whispered one incantation and a bag he’d prepared of trinkets if he wanted to leave in a hurry. He knew that time was now, he didn’t know what would happen next but he knew his time here was done.

~*~

Lily listened to Sev as he explained everything and she figured out what he was saying in a roundabout way. She frowned upon hearing the plan but could see the appeal. “You’re going to disappear to America?”

Snape nodded, while he’d been speaking with his best-friend it became clearer in his mind. He needed to get away and America offered him a chance at anonymity. If he stayed in the UK then he knew his options would be limited. “Your fiance and his friends will only ever see me as an evil snake.” He said it without rancour. It was a simple fact and he knew what happened if he stayed, “If I stay I will be marked like cattle as the Dark Lord’s servant and that is not a fate that appeals to me.”

“Where will you go?” Lily asked as she was trying to figure out if the plan was fully formed. Severus wasn’t prone to overreaction or being rash but when you are scared then that tends to be the first action.

He was proud of his accomplishment even if he hadn’t shared it with anyone. “I already have my potions mastery. I have the income from a few potions I’ve generated. I shall study chemistry in America so I can excel in both the muggle and wizarding worlds.”

Lily hugged him fiercely, sad that she was losing a friend but glad he was going to be safe and make a name for himself. “You deserve this chance.”

~*~

It was his lunch hour and Severus had hoped to relax outside which was an oddity that he was still getting used to. After all, it wasn’t like many students wanted to spend their lunch out in the freezing grounds of Hogwarts.

The only trouble was his favourite area was taken up by a stranger. He looked like a Jock, only this one didn’t have the usual air of arrogance that Severus had come to associate with the college athletes. He seemed, in a word - despondent and not in a, I can’t find my football, way. Severus recognised that look, it was more - my life is over.

The man looked up and Severus admired the startling green eyes. He spoke softly, surprising Severus as he expected something more vibrant.

“I am not in the mood to share my brooding tree.”

Severus snorted in disbelief because he was used to being the sarcastic one. “I like a good brood as well. If I promise not to offer up any inane chatter would you mind if I sit?”

Tony would admit that he was more than a little intrigued. “Sure, and you can explain how a Brit ended up at OSU?”

Severus smirked at him. “That would involve inane chatter.”

~*~

A day later, Severus bumps into his mystery guy. “Feeling better.”

The mystery guy looked sheepish. “Not really, damn crutches keep on slowing me down.”

“I see you’ve decided to stop brooding.” Severus replied but with no snark, more a knowing grin.

“Yeah, a wise guy told me that brooding was all well and good but ultimately solved nothing. I needed to figure out my new goal and work towards it.”

“And how is that going?”

Tony chuckled. “Well, I still don’t know your name, and how a Brit ended up here.”

Severus smirked. “You should know my parents were scholars and it is Severus.”

Tony smirked. “I’m Tony, and are you the type to wage war like your namesake?”

Severus had only one retort that could be said. “Only on those who deserve it.”

Tony grinned at the response. “Well, I shall aim to never be on that side. What do you say to some food?”

It was the start of a beautiful friendship that Tony really hoped he could cultivate into something more. He just had no idea how to handle the rather big secrets in his life. How do you broach a topic like Magic without a starting point with a chem major no less?

~*~

Two weeks later and Tony’s life was on a very transformed path. He’d been contemplating a degree change and Severus’ passion for chemistry had enlivened him. He was now asking for a double major and intended to use his recovery time from the injury to catch up on any studies he’d missed.

After his injury, Tony had expected many things but what he had not expected was to end up with a best friend. It was well-known amongst the student population that if you couldn’t find either Severus or Tony then go to the other.

Severus, in truth, was looking for more than friendship and he and Tony had been engaged in flirting each and every time they met up. He felt though that it would not be right to start something unless he revealed his magic.

He was aware that his past could come back to bite him on the ass. He’d disappeared into muggle America but he’d refused to change his name on the grounds that the closest approximation was Soren and he was not a Soren . He was lucky that Tony hadn’t made an issue out of his name as that would have soured their budding friendship.

~*~

Right now, Severus had banked his frustration about the past due to Tony’s exuberant mood. They were eating in his apartment to celebrate the removal of the weight-bearing cast.

“Sev!”

Severus didn’t complain about the nickname from Tony. It was for two reasons, one knowing it wasn’t a battle he could win, and two, he liked Tony calling him it. “In the kitchen.”

Tony did a spin. “Check it out.”

Severus smirked, his eyes lingering over Tony’s ass in jeans rather than the cast free leg. “Very nice.”

Tony grumbled, “More than nice.”

Severus snorted at his disgruntled tone. It was clear he wasn’t the only frustrated one in their friendship. “I have eyes and you have a mirror, yes?”

Tony rolled his eyes. “I do own a mirror, snarky.”

Severus handed him the plates, ignoring the comment. “Set the table. The food is almost ready.”

Dinner was going well and Tony was exuberant. “Thanks to your help, I’ve tested out on the Chem 101 modules and the summer should take care of the 201 modules.”

Severus grinned as it was clear that Tony was attempting to try and reach his year group as quickly as possible. “It will be good to have someone who is not an idiot in my class with me.”

Tony’s smile was blinding because Severus wasn’t he type to offer praise. “You’re sure your buddies won’t look down at me as the former quarterback? Too dumb to hold a conversation?”

Severus shrugged. “You could play it dumb for your own amusement, I suppose, but personally I am not fond of pretending to be anything less than I am. It was why I chose to move to America - to avoid such situations.”

Tony perked up hoping to learn more about his newest friend. “You know, you don’t speak about England much.”

Severus cocked his head to the side as he contemplated explaining his existence. “You mentioned your mother is British.”

Tony nodded and kept it deliberately vague. “Yes, I have an Uncle Clive. I’ve written to him to discuss formally changing my name to Paddington.”

Snape spat out his beer. “You’re a Paddington?”

Chapter 2: Secrets Revealed

Summary:

In which Severus realises things will be both easier and harder for the couple.

Notes:

So in a weird twist of fate this is getting an update exactly a year after post to show it is not dead. The outline is slowly being filled but involves world building as it will be a true fusion as NCIS characters will take up affiliated roles in the magical verse.

Chapter Two - Secrets revealed

Snape spat out his beer. "You're a Paddington?"

Tony was startled by Severus' reaction because there was only one reason for Sev to react in such an extreme way. Tony's heart started to beat just a little faster because he'd never spoken about his magic in nearly a decade. He might suspect it, but he still played his cards close to his chest. "Yes, on my mother's side. They are rich, stupidly snobby and an odd bunch but they are blood."

Snape was suddenly a lot more relaxed about what he had to say. To think he'd been angsting over trying to start a relationship with a muggle. He did not doubt that Lily would get a kick out of it when he sent his next careful letter. "Then you should know I went to school with your cousin, Crispin."

Tony let out a sigh of relief because their friendship (and hopefully more) just got a thousand times easier. He couldn't believe that Sev had been at Hogwarts, but he asked somewhat nervously because Crispin was getting hexed if his bloody cousin cockblocked him. "Should I apologise for him being a douche?"

Snape just gave him a look as if to say don't be silly. "I ensured he talked to me with civility."

"Then you are my favourite wizard ever," Tony announced with a smirk being the one to say it out loud for the first time. "You know you are just too perfect, clever, snarky, and just the right side of mean for my liking."

Snape wanted to laugh in disbelief because he'd been brooding over how to tell Tony about his magic. He'd learnt with his studies that for most muggles magic was simply too alien for them to deal with and yet Tony already knew. "How do you have a magical core? I can't sense it."

Tony smirked but realised now was the time to stop hiding all of his secrets because, in truth, he didn't just like Severus - he adored him. He hadn't just been speaking lines for seduction - he'd meant every word of what he'd just said. He slowly but surely took off his necklace, and suddenly Severus could feel it.

Severus quickly figured out the mystery, which wasn't that hard because Tony must have studied somewhere.  "You went to Ilvermorny?"

Tony nodded and spoke honestly, "Yes, my father sent me to private school, well, so he thinks. In reality, Uncle Clive saw how things were back home and asked me to study in America rather than at Hogwarts. He said it was the best way to protect the family line should the blood war go bad. I know he is downplaying how bad it is."

Snape whispered, wondering what he would have been like if he could have relied on any member of his family. He'd been so grateful to have a friend like Lily, but he could pretend things weren't bleak. There was a reason he was hiding in America as much as he hates it. "I wish I had that option. Things are bleak."

Tony pulled him into a hug wanting to offer comfort and was thrilled that Seve accepted it. Tony guided them to a sofa. He could only provide a simple, practical vow. "We survive, and then we fight. That's all we can do."

"I like that plan a lot," Severus announced and he wasn't sure what the future held, but he liked the idea of it having Tony. He knew without words that they were on the same page about where their relationship was heading. He boldly slid onto Tony's lap, and knowing he was welcome was one of the best things since starting potions.

He needed Tony to be aware of what he was risking by entangling himself with Severus. "If they find me, it could be bad for us. My mother is keen to press my service to the Dark Lord. As you can imagine, he is keen to have a potions master."

Tony pulled him closer, so their lips were almost touching showing he wasn't scared. It was tantalising, and Severus longed to close the distance. Tony whispered into the charged atmosphere, sounding very much like a Paddington at that moment. "Then I pity the fool who comes through our door. My cast is off so we'll step up training on all levels."

Severus had no other reply than to kiss him stupid. There was only so much he could resist, and Tony with his wit, charm, looks and fierce determination to fight for them was too much.

~*~

Tony and Severus had come together in such a way that others felt envious. In college, the people around them couldn't believe they were bold enough to be out and proud. Some dismissed it as a college romance that would burn out, but they were enamoured with each other and didn't bother to hide it. Many on-campus were jealous of how certain they seemed in all aspects of their life.

Tony and Severus didn't bother with peoples opinions. Instead, they pushed each other academically to be the best they could and trained in both magic and muggles ways to survive anything that came at them. They didn't hide their relationship, meaning some muggles might decide to try and be brave and so martial arts improved their agility for duelling and was another way to protect themselves.

They may still officially be living as muggles, but that didn't mean they weren't using multiple charms to enjoy the use of their magic but cloaked from view. Tony heard the owl smack against his apartment window and rolled his eyes. "Bluebeard, you are ridiculous."

"What does your uncle want?"

Tony read the letter's contents and paled as the circumstances settled and explained why his magic had been restless. "I am now the Heir of the Paddington Line. Crispin was killed today in an attack."

Severus took the letter and read it too as Tony left it dangling in the air. He settled his thoughts before he spoke up. "You have options, and it clearly states that he wants you to finish your education here."

Tony stood up and started to pace as he thought through the problem. "My Uncle is a thorn in the side of Voldemort because the little bastard tried to mark him forcibly."

"What happened?" Severus was fascinated by the idea of anyone who could stand up to the monster. Well, it was the thought that anyone could stand up and live to tell the tale was the intriguing part.

Tony grinned recounting the story. He'd seen the whole thing in a pensive the year before. "My Uncle has unparalleled skill with apparating. So he blew him a kiss and apparated through what was assumed to be anti-apparition wards."

Severus tried to imagine it and couldn't quite get the imagery right, but it would amuse him for a while. "You know if I had stayed a minute longer in Britain, I was sure I would end up in a similar situation." He took a breath, "Only I don't have your Uncle's skill ... I would have been no doubt forced to worship that monster or die."

Tony didn't doubt it because Severus may be young, but he was a genius with potions. "The only person you're allowed to worship is me in bed, or anywhere else you choose," Tony remarked with a wicked grin and pulled him into one of their favourite rooms.

They'd renovated the room when they moved in together to be their training room. It was complete with muggle notice-me-not charms so none of their acquaintances could walk in. It would have been awkward explaining how such a large space was stuck inside an apartment - not to mention the medieval weaponry they stocked in there.

It was one of the more lovely swaps of knowledge between the couple. Severus was teaching him duelling, while Tony was teaching him swordwork. In Severus' opinion, Tony cheated as he used his sword to duel - it was quite the surprise when his spell flowed through the blade.

Severus had no issues with strategy planning, however, and apparated them straight to their bedroom. He wanted to indulge in a different type of exercise.

~*~

The final year had come and gone, and finals had nearly killed them both, but they had passed and celebrated with a ritual bonding. It was stupid to pretend that they didn't want each other for the rest of their lives. Plus, on the practical side by bonding with each other, no one could force them into something against their wishes.

Tony knew his Uncle would have noticed something odd in the family magic, so the firecall wasn't unexpected once the ritual had settled. He just hoped he could enjoy the honeymoon period first, "JUST WHERE WERE YOU HIDING A POTIONS MASTER?!"

Tony poked his head out of his bedroom. He thanks all the gods he'd warded the whole place in muggle-notice-me-not charms as his Uncle's head stared at him from the fireplace.  "Honestly, Uncle Clive. I am convincing my wizard that he hasn't made the wrong choice."

"You bring one of the best and youngest potions masters into our family with no warning. I have had to deal with the old coot for you, Tony."

Tony looked sheepish and robed himself and pulled Severus out of their bedroom. He was so glad he'd closed the door before they celebrated. He couldn't stop the scowl hearing about Dumbledore, "What did dickface want?"

Clive just gave him a pointed look because he and Tony had had words about his language. Tony couldn't pretend to respect someone though when they had done nothing to deserve it. "He is the Supreme Mugwump, and Headmaster of Hogwarts," like that should mean something to Tony.

Tony smirked right back. "I am Ilvermorny Alumni, and whilst you are alive, Uncle, which better be for a long time ... he is not my concern."

Clive snorted at the absolute honesty from his Heir. In truth, Clive didn't think he could have picked anyone better. Still, he figured his nephew deserved his openness in return. "You have stressed my heart more than bloody Dumbledore."

Tony grinned because he wasn't going to stress his Uncle unnecessarily and he wanted him to know that he wasn't rash without purpose. "Oh Uncle, we're learning all we can and biding our time."

Clive, Tony and Severus all shared a look of conspiratorial glee. "The Wizarding World is not ready for you two."

"For sure." Severus and Tony replied.

Clive groaned at seeing how in love they were, it was sickeningly sweet. Most of the Wizengamot would see the Prince and Paddington heirs marrying and forming a formidable power bloc. It would be worse than they know when they realise it's a love match.

Clive realised he hadn't been the most welcoming, but shock usually provoked strong reactions with him. "Welcome to the family, Severus. The Goblins have ordered you to the bank to collect your legacy."

Severus nodded, and it was odd to consider he had anything to collect. He had forgotten that if he were to marry, he'd be entitled to claim the Prince Lordship and its fortune. Oh perfect, Severus knew his mother would have an absolute fit when found it. He dearly hoped he was present so he could put the memory into a Pensieve.

"We will attend as soon as it is open, Lord Paddington," Severus assured his almost father-in-law. He knew the blood relationship was supposedly that of an uncle, but it was a little more tangled in reality because Clive thought of Tony as his son.

"Nonsense, only my enemies call me that. For you, it is Clive or Uncle."

Severus nodded, his head a little overwhelmed as he'd never had a real family claim him. Tony hugged him, knowing where his thoughts were dwelling. Tony dearly wished he could get revenge on Severus' behalf, but some things would have to wait. "Come on, Champ. Let's go back to bed and celebrate our good fortune."

Clive groaned. "Good night, Tony, try not to scare me for a few days."

"No promises, Uncle," Tony replied with a smirk.

~*~

Severus had been considering what he'd do once he'd finished college and always assumed it would be still in hiding. He was thinking of setting up a potions/pharmaceutical company. It would have two folds of revenue stream, and with the Prince fortune now in his hands, it would have the start-up money.

Tony knew him too well. "You can have as many fortunes as you like as long as you don't pitch a fit if I decide to be an Auror."

Severus snickered because his husband would not do well without some form of activity. "The stuffy Lords will hate that I am hands-on with a company - they will pitch a fit if you work in law enforcement."

Tony sneered, knowing how stuffy the English Lords were and it sounded like they were in desperate need of modernisation. "Who said it would be for the English ministry? I was thinking about the ICW."

Now that was an appealing thought as the ICW was at a level above the pureblood crap you would face in the UK. Tony and Severus were heirs of Ancient and Noble lines which meant they would respect their faces but talk behind their backs.  He was aware that Black and Potter were currently working as Aurors, but they were Dumbledore acolytes, so they were exceptional cases.

In a few hours, they would do as they promised and take their first steps on British soil in a long time.

Chapter 3: Bang No Whimper

Chapter Text

Tony and Severus walked into Diagon Alley under glamours as they had no intention of undoing all their hard work with a careless gesture. The glamours were released the minute they went through the bank's door as they weren't stupid. The Goblins would not respect anyone who tried to do business with them unless they wore their true visage.

Tony stepped forward and offered the best greeting you could to a Goblin. "Good morning, Rasniel. I hope your enemies are tormented, and your gold is bountiful and overflowing."

"Always, Heir Paddington, and I see you have brought Heir Prince with you."

Tony nodded because it was apparent. "Uncle Clive informed me that a request was made of us to appear. You know us Paddington's ... We don't do tardy."

The Goblin grinned and what a sight it was to behold. "Yes, we have much to discuss."

They entered one of the rooms that were kept for the more affluent customers. Rasniel waited until they were seated to announce, "You realise that Lord Prince, before he died, entailed the estate away from your mother."

Severus sighed because he'd been subject to many rants on the subject during one of his mother manic episodes. "Yes, she is alive and crazy but would have destroyed the family magic if given half the chance."

"Yes, well, your grandfather agreed with your assessment and took action." He paused for a second. "The vaults informed us that you will now be accepted as Lord Prince. It happened as soon as your bond registered with us."

Tony snorted because his husband had made the odd flippant comment about being judged. "And you were worried you'd be considered a gold-digger?"

"That is an honest profession," Rasniel replied with confusion. His face suggested he would never get why wizards were so odd.

Tony was quick to nod his head and reassure their account manager. "For a goblin, yes. Wizards get funny about wealth."

"Agreed." The Goblin nodded sagely. "Lord Prince, Your personal vaults have merged, and the Prince vaults have added to your accounts. Do you wish for your mother to keep her account?"

Severus thought about it, and although he could have been bitter and took every last knut, he decided against that course of action. "She can keep what she has but do ensure that my mother is notified that she will no longer have access to any more Prince funds. We are not in the habit of supporting the Dark."

Rasniel nodded. "Done. Congratulations on your marriage, Lord Prince, Heir Paddington. Shall I look at English properties?"

Tony was a suspicious type and wanted to have more than one bolt-hole. The political situation was still too dicey for his liking. "We would like one each in the UK, France, the US and Bali. All unplottable and with the nastiest wards that you can think of."

"Lethal?" Rasniel asked with hope of being able to be devious and creative. He was stopped too often from being true magnificence by stupid morals that the wizards would cling to justify their actions.

Tony and Severus smirked. "We hope so, although you should probably make one warning round that is somewhere inhospitable."

Rasniel dearly hoped they were on the same page, "So the edge of a volcano and then in the volcano would be acceptable?"

Severus chuckled because that was perfect in his mind. "Well, I am a great believer that if you make the same mistake again, you are too stupid to live."

~*~

Their Sunday evening had been going well and despite much aggravation from the elite - they stayed in the US. The blood war was still in full flow, and his Uncle had made it clear that he wanted Tony out of it to ensure the family legacy.

Tony respected his Uncle's wishes and made sure that apart from mandated appearances scheduled in the Wizengamot, they stayed away from the UK.

A bang in their living room had them with a wand in their hand or, in Tony's case, he summoned a sword.

They felt foolish when they looked down at the smoke clearing to reveal a child. Snape would know those eyes anywhere, and his heart clenched with grief. "Harry. Oh Merlin, what happened to your mother?"

Tony picked up the wailing child to offer comfort. "Hey, kiddo. That is quite the scar. Let's go and get you cleaned up." At least that had been his intent, but he gasped in shock. He fell back on the sofa, and his magical core was taking a pounding, he would need to unleash the storm and soon. "Sev, take him. Now!"

The magical backlash of his family magic settling on him caused a few cracks in the walls. In the end, Tony shouldn't have been worried about harming them as a shield formed around them to keep them safe from the magical backlash. The Paddington line was long and powerful. It could trace itself back to the Knights of the Round Table.

The magic finally settled after fifteen minutes of wild magic flowing around them. Severus had read and digested the note on young Harry's stomach while he waited for the magical maelstrom to settle.

His first friend was dead, and she'd used her last moments and magic in sacrifice to see her son safe by sending him to Severus. Severus was humbled by the trust placed in him by Lily. She had left nothing to chance as the note had given Lord Prince and his husband full guardianship of the Potter's son. She had included a phial of blood to make a magical adoption if necessary.

She also offered signed proof that the Secret Keeper was not Sirius Black but rather Pettigrew. He had no idea why Lily would feel necessary to have noted in a legal document, but she was often too smart and saw what others missed.

Tony whispered, hugging Severus from behind careful of the baby he was holding. He spoke the words that would see their fates and plans irrevocably change. "They've killed my Uncle and his wife tonight."

Severus whispered back. "I know. Harry is alone now, and I wonder how many more orphans were made tonight."

Tony looked at the sleeping baby, and he made a vow. "Harry will never be alone. I suspect the little one has put a dampener on the Dark's plans because that is some curse scar. He is not gone, just lingering somewhere."

Severus nodded in agreement - they would need to investigate the scar when Harry was stronger. It felt as dark as fuck, but if it wasn't causing immediate harm, they would wait until Harry was a little older. "Then we bide our time and plan for a merciless war, as I will not let the dark wanker touch Lily's child."

That was so Tony's influence because before their bonding - Severus would have never spoken in such bold terms about Voldemort. Severus looked into those stunning Emerald eyes, so reminiscent of his mother and knew he would no longer run and hide. He could bide his time, but he was done playing by the rules.

"I can think of no better reason to go to war. Thank goodness I got the ICW accreditation yesterday." Tony said firmly, and it backed up the vow they'd made.

Severus kissed him softly on the lips. He adored that his bond mate was more than willing to change everything to accommodate their change in circumstances despite his own grief. "So we're going back to the UK?"

Tony nodded, and his mind was already making plans for what they would need. "Marnie. Present yourself."

The House Elf in Paddington livery appeared. "You are coming home aren't you Lord Tony."

Tony chuckled. "Yes, I promise this will be the last long-distance jump you will need to make."

"What can Marnie be doing for Lord Tony?"

Tony grinned. "I need the house ready for me and my bonded, and we will have a baby with us."

"You have Harry Potter?"

Tony nodded surprised by the fact the chid's name was known by the house-elves. He wasn't ignorant and knew they had a special magic that wasn't shared with wizards. "Yes, Lady Potter sent him to us in a ritual."

"UK be losing their mind as they can't find him."

Tony snickered. "Then they haven't been looking in the right place."

"We will kill anyone who touches the baby." She announced definitively making Severus stare in fascination.

Tony smiled because Paddington elves were a special breed. They were happy to do domestic tasks but were also quite excited to go to war. "We're in agreement, we're going to make war on the Dark. I needed a new hobby now that I've finished the degree. Please make sure the house starts strategic planning."

"When will you arrive, Lord Tony?"

Tony shared a look with Severus and knew that their return would need to be swift to counteract any stupid notions. "Within a day."

"Goodie I shall be whipping the house into shape," Marnie announced with a manic grin and disappeared in a flash.

~*~

Tony took Harry so Severus could eat. "You okay?"

"Your elves are something else?"

Tony chuckled because that was an understatement. "It's a Paddington ideal. You should win using all your resources available."

"They would certainly be unsuspected," Severus remarked lightly. "I think he is hungry."

Tony headed to the kitchen area to look at kid-friendly food. "We need to get him looked over."

"Do you think the Goblins would know someone?" Severus asked tightly. He didn't much trust wizards until he could get the lay of the land. Lily trusted him with her son, and Severus wouldn't betray that trust. He would avoid most people until he could figure out allegiances.

Tony smiled softly because fatherhood was settling rather quickly on his husband, and it was hot. "Yeah, Rasniel likes us, remember?"

Severus sighed, "How do people with children sleep?"

Tony shrugged because he was as new to this idea as Severus. "Who knows, we hardly had the best models in that respect. I figure we should do the exact opposite of what they did and Harry will be just fine."

"We've just declared on the dark so I'd say we're one up on our fathers."

Tony couldn't deny it and crowed in delight. "Bananas and porridge for now."

Severus watched, gently rocking Harry back and forth to keep him settled. "I don't want to go back."

Tony snorted because he'd loved the little world they'd built for themselves. However, neither of them were cowards. "We will make them all regret making us return, Dumblefuck , Dark Dork and anyone else who dares to make trouble for us."

The paper landed on the table, and it seemed they had their first contender. "Seriously?"

There was no reason for Sirius Black to be imprisoned.

Chapter 4: Making a Statement

Chapter Text

Chapter 4: Making a Statement

In their last communication, Lily had made it clear that Sirius was not the Secret Keeper. So this headline smacked of political moves, which normally Severus would approve of, but to consign someone to Azkaban to prove a point was a level of bastardy above him.

Tony needed insight if he was going to make effective plans, and he valued Severus' opinion over all others. He left Harry in Severus' arms and magicked a board up to start their planning. "So why would a good leader let one of his strongest fighters languish in jail?"

Severus sneered at the word  leader  as he believed such things needed to be earned, not given in a paper. "I never believed in the great white wizard he portrayed. I could respect the immense political power he accumulated quickly, but my instincts never settled around him."

Tony understood that better than most because if you lived in an abusive home - you quickly learned to size up who was a threat and who was okay. So if his husband didn't trust the man, then something shady was probably going on.

Tony frowned as he approached this problem like a mystery. He would always start with a list of questions to seek answers and go from there. "How did he get it?" Tony paused briefly before clarifying, "The Public's trust."

Sev couldn't help but tease his husband despite their dark mood. "How American are you?"

Tony smirked but could easily match his husband's humour. "Enough to be awkward, and you wouldn't want that on top of a young child. Would you? I mean, who knows how long I would have a headache for?"

There was a reason Severus had married the man, and this was one of them. Their life may be crazy, but they stood together and gave no quarter, "He defeated Grindlewald! The last big bad before Voldemort."

Tony could see how that could earn you favour, especially if you exploited the right people at the right moment. "So why were you suspicious?"

Severus chuckled darkly because Tony knew he was suspicious as a rule and generally intolerant of most people - it was how they met, after all. "I mean, if you were Grindelwald's lover, you couldn't be a white wizard, could you?"

Tony whirled around and paused in surprise as he hadn't expected that twist in the story. "Wow, he is a  Duplictiousdick,  not a  Dumbdick."

Severus nodded, "Indeed. I mean that wouldn't work with Dumbledore's image, would it?"

Miraculously, little Harry had rocked asleep. The scar on his forehead was a concern as it felt like a dark curse, but that could be settled in the morning. For now, the couple had charmed a little hat to act as a curse barrier.

Pulling the strands together, Tony could only come up with one conclusion. "So we agree that he intends to let Black rot because he feels that would help him gain control of Harry?"

Sev looked at the child in his hands, "This Darling boy will have the world chasing him for one reason or another."

He couldn't see how it wouldn't, as Harry had somehow fought Voldemort and won. However, how a child had managed to do what none of the legends could do would indeed be investigated.

Tony had a clear resolve in his eyes, "Good job. He has two magnificent bastards as Guardians."

As Sev still had Harry in his arms, Tony was the one to let the eagle drop a letter into his lap. "Why is Gringotts messaging you?"

Tony finished the letter with a smirk and couldn't wait to ruin the old bastard's day. You see, Dumbledore may have fooled the Wizarding Public, but Tony had taken time to make friendships where they counted. Despite what the bigoted Purebloods might believe, insulting Goblins was generally not a good rule as they looked after the money. Tony had gone the other way and created positive friendships with the board of Gringotts, and as they liked him, they would do the odd favour. "Seems Dumbledore has requested a will reading at two this afternoon for the Potters?"

Severus pushed down his overwhelming surge of fury at the attempt to interfere, but he trusted their advisors. "So when will the actual reading take place?"

Tony adored their manager because he was efficient and hated dumb wizards as a rule, "Well, most will get the invite at 11 am... Peter will get an invite for one and Dumbledore at two."

"Nice way to stagger our priorities," Severus remarked, allowing them proper time to assess who was an ally and who would be an enemy. You had to admire how the Goblins devoted their time to gaining true revenge.

Tony sighed because if they were going to leave America and head to England for real, he would have to embrace being the magnificent bastard that his Uncle intended him to be. He would go so far with the clothes, but he was not changing his hairstyle. "I thought so, so we need to get ready."

Severus sneered, "As long as we do not look like ridiculous peacocks, I will be happy."

Tony rolled his eyes because that was like him asking his husband if he could identify potion ingredients. "Marnie."

"Yes, Lord Tony." The House Elf was back once more.

Tony wondered who should be assigned as their personal elves. "Who would our Valets be?"

She thought about it, and there were a couple of elves who could be assigned depending on the needs of her Lords. "How militant do you want them to be?"

Tony grinned, "The Nanny for Harry should be the worst of worst who would make a Goblin blush with their devilish ideas."

He couldn't help but note the wicked gleam in his Head Elf's eyes, so he guessed she had a candidate in mind.

Marnie replied, "Should be Dippy, and for yourselves?"

Severus spoke up, "They can be as brash and bold as they like. We do not subscribe to normal ways."

Marnie giggled, "You's are going to break a lot of brains."

Tony couldn't help the massive grin on his face as he did like chaos. "If we do not achieve that goal, we have failed."

Marnie groaned but knew there were only two elves up to the job. "Mickey and Mindy present yourselves."

The elves appeared dressed in honest-to-merlin little Ninja outfits that Tony found hilarious. He only managed to withhold his laughter because he did not intend to upset them, but he thought they were adorable.

"You is got even bossier." Mickey scowled.

Marnie looked smug, "I am the older sister and Lord Tony and Lord Severus intend to cause chaos, so I want you to be their personal elves."

The two elves turned back to the Lords. "You won't makes us change, wills you?" They asked in stereo, confirming Tony's belief that they were likely to be twins.

Tony shook his head, adding solemnly, "No, you can be as devious or as obvious as you like. We intend to give you the title of Bonded Servant so you can act on our behalf and not fear reprisal."

The two elves turned back to their big sister, clearly suspicious. "This is not a trap?"

Marnie shook her prim head, "No's no trap. They need someone to support them and I know you twos don't mind making a mess."

The twins looked like Yule had come early, but it was clear that they took their job seriously. Mindy was scowling, "You need nice clothes if you're going to the bank, Lord Tony."

Tony pouted, "What's wrong with my jeans?"

Mindy snorted, "What's right with them, Lord Tony," she replied, positively acidic for a house elf, but all Tony did was laugh. He guessed Marnie knew what she was doing.

Tony was delighted and wasn't shy about sharing it. "I love how judgemental you sound as you say that, and don't worry, Mindy. I wouldn't disgrace the Paddington name, and Mickey, can you make sure Lord Severus has only black? He detests colour."

"Of course, Sir." Mickey replied solemnly, and given the choice of his own apparel, he was in quiet agreement.

Tony, Severus, and baby Harry managed to apparate to the bank steps. It caused a commotion because that was a right only afforded to the most trusted bank patrons. Then whispers started regarding Harry, but no one said a thing. After all, they couldn't figure out who the couple were, but all could size up the wealth on display and, more significantly - the strength of their magic.

"Come on, Husband. Let's get this over with quickly." Tony replied imperiously. "I want to head back to the castle where it's safest." It sounded snotty, but it was wholly true, as by now, the Paddington elves would have prepared the castle for a long siege.

A bank worker approached them and honoured Tony with a courteous bow. "Lord Paddington, Lord Snape, may your enemies die painfully and your gold grow ever plentiful."

Tony had a crooked grin which was a change from the resting bitch face he'd adapted as soon as he got through the door. "Thank you, Ragorak. I hope death is never swift for your enemies and your gold flows exponentially."

A mercenary grin, full of sharp teeth, was offered in return. "Thank you, Lord Paddington. It's always a pleasure for your patronage. Please follow me to the meeting room we have set aside."

Remus was startled to see Harry as they entered the meeting room and bounded forward, but Tony blocked him from touching their charge. He puts himself in front of Severus and Harry and lets his feelings be known, "I don't care who you are, buddie. You do not come near my ward."

"That child defeated you-know-who!" Remus replied, "And the Potter's were dear friends. Are you the reason that the Headmaster and Peter are not here."

Tony rolled his eyes at the attitude but figured now was the time to start throwing down boundaries. He felt he would be doing this frequently until everyone got the message. "No, that child is my ward, Harry Potter, who was sent with a ritual sacrifice by Lady Lily Potter to the two people she trusted in this world to look after her most precious treasure. I, for one, intend to honour that request with every fibre of my considerable power."

"Who are you?"

Tony smirked, "And that is your first smart question, and to answer it, I am Lord Antonius Paddington, and I want to know if the Potters have any important facts to give in their final testaments before we get interrupted by the world thinking they are more important than the Potter's final wishes."

Remus was appalled, "You can't keep Harry away from the wizarding world."

Tony wondered if he could fund an entitlement cure, "I have no intention of doing so, and Harry will be raised knowing his legacy, but we can move safely in both worlds."

Severus had never been too fond of the wolf, but he was the more even-tempered of the group. "Remus, Harry will be cared for, and my husband and I will be ruthless in defence of Harry."

Remus could guess there was even more going on than the tragic death of his friends, "So why is Dumbledore not present, nor Peter?"

Tony figured if the wolf wanted to be angry, he should direct that anger to an appropriate source. "You should ask Dumbledore why he has let Lord Black rot in jail without a trial, especially as he was not the Secret Keeper."

Remus frowned because surely Albus wouldn't allow such an injustice to take place, "That can not be right."

Wow, how quickly a tone and attitude can change. Tony raised an eyebrow, "Severus received a floo call where Lily said that Sirius would be the patsy Secret Keeper."

"Seems those were truer words than he knew. I mean, I may not like the mutt, but to be betrayed by a mentor would be difficult to swallow." Severus replied evenly, but he'd chosen his words carefully and precisely as he set the picture of devastation.

Tony knew the others were silent. "Well, Ragorak would prefer to make money than listen to our squabbles. Can we get on with the will reading, and then we will deal with the rat and the puppet master."

The will was read, and Remus got to hear it from Lily and James' lips about who their betrayers were, making his wolf howl.

There would be reckoning.

Chapter 5: A Rat and a Puppet Master

Chapter Text

Remus had made amends for his earlier words and promised to support Tony and Severus' endeavours, especially as they planned to help him free his mate. He knew he would have to unpack many feelings about what had happened yesterday but now was not the time.

Tony's opinion of Remus had improved once he understood that Black was his mate. It was no wonder the werewolf was struggling if he thought his mate had betrayed the pack.

"So I want ideas on how I don't kill a coward before I announce myself to the British Public," Tony announced blithely. He had the ICW Hit Wizard accreditation, so he wouldn't even get in serious trouble. Still, he wasn't stupid and knew a justifiable kill would put a dint in his public perception. It would be the type of move he guessed Dumbledick excelled at in the past.

Ragorak handed his favourite wizard a package. Tony looked inside, and it was a mouse trap, and while most of the last forty-eight hours had sucked, he still had his sense of humour. He burst out in a startled laugh, knowing his eyes would show his mirth, "Would you be agreeable to me casting, or would you prefer the honour?"

"While you would be the only one, Lord Paddington. Our King has said it is best if I do it, as we don't want other wizards to get ideas above their station." The Goblin informed him as circumspectly and solemnly as any politician.

Tony couldn't argue with that logic, and as they were about to deal with one of his problems, he wouldn't complain. "I thank you for your continued support and friendship."

Remus looked at Severus with surprise because this was unheard of in English circles. He had no idea where Severus had found this wizard, but he had never heard of any Wizard, let alone one of the noble lords, showing respect or gaining favour from the Goblins. Severus just offered him a sharp smile as if to say yes. He knew how dangerous and surprising his husband was, and he was proud of it.

Remus felt it should be acknowledged because it was high time to put petty school rivalries behind them. "I don't know how you found such a dangerous mate, but congratulations."

Tony answered instead of Severus, "He went to the colonies and found me where I was hiding at a University. We decided to brood and stick together."

"You always did have the most extraordinary luck." Remus couldn't help but note. He could tell there was more to the story, but he wouldn't be as crass as to ask for it before it was volunteered.

Severus wasn't sure it could be considered good luck as he'd run away to America to avoid the Dark Lord. He wasn't sure he wanted to be friends with the mutts, but as much as it pained Severus to admit, Sirius would be a helpful ally in their pursuit of Harry's enemies. "You have no idea. You should be warned Tony has no intention of bowing to any of the well-intentioned advice the Headmaster will no doubt bring with him when he arrives."

Tony sneered, as that was an absolute truth. "No. I have zero fucks to give if I offend the old bastard.  Dumbledick's  cowardice and willingness to move wizard chess pieces around an imaginary board upset me on a fundamental level. I will not pretend otherwise."

Remus growled; hearing it so plainly let him see what the Headmaster planned to take away from him. Sirius would have been a source of strength for Harry, but his prolonged absence from Sirius would have put his sanity at risk. "He tried to keep Sirius locked away from me."

Tony shook his head, "Sirius will not be there long on that you have my word. I need to know how much of a threat that bastard is to Harry, so as much as it pains me to say, I need you to let the scene play out."

Remus grinned, and it was full of fangs, "Well, I am sure Karma will establish the rightful winner in such a situation."

"That's a promise." Tony loved it when he made new friends who agreed with his goals. He couldn't tell whether Sev was happy about this or not. As far as he was concerned, the more wizards he could recruit to protect his ward, the better, and he would make friends with the Devil himself to achieve this goal.

The time for Peter to make his appearance was fast approaching. Peter stepped inside the room and was immediately alarmed. He was stuttering and scared, which wasn't unusual for the man. However, when he saw Harry in Severus' arms and Tony, an unknown, he completely freaked out, "Who are you?"

Tony smiled, but there was none of his usual friendliness it it, in fact, snow storms had more warmth. "What's the matter, Peter? You look guilty about something."

The little rat bastard actually shook his head, "No. I just didn't recognise you from Hogwarts. I am not guilty; I am sad."

Tony smirked because if that was the excuse he was going for, then he was going to enjoy tearing his life apart. "I didn't go to Hogwarts, and when did you think you could lie to me?"

Peter could feel the power in the room, and this was odd because it was strong but not oppressive, like Voldemort's use of power. The power felt worse to Peter; he found himself cowering. "You are powerful."

Tony shared a smirk with Severus, as he had guessed that was the source of cowardly behaviour. "You know there are other schools than Hogwarts. Voldemort was too dumb to look abroad. Good thing or the Paddington line would have ended yesterday, just like he tried with the Potters."

"He was too powerful," Peter whimpered.

"And you were a wonderously traitorous coward," Tony replied. Everyone looked at him, and he shrugged because what was the point of being polite when the bastard didn't deserve it, "Sorry, I thought we were saying obvious things to each other."

Severus sighed but made it clear what he felt about the situation. "Oh, we're going to make sure the Wizengamot throws the book at you. By the time we're done, everyone will know what a disgrace of a wizard you turned out to be."

Peter shook his head, clearly in denial, "You don't hold a seat."

Tony rolled his eyes and showed his ring, "Lord Paddington, at your service, and how dare you dismiss my husband, Lord Snape."

Peter's eyes widened as his reality was starting to sink in. He thought he would be free and clear as everyone was blaming Sirius.

Snape sneered in disgust, "He is even letting Black stay in jail for his crimes, so I think we can levy crimes against the line into the mix."

As Severus was holding Harry, Tony advanced on Peter, wanting to ensure the slippery rat didn't escape their plan.

Peter squeaked in terror, slipped into his rat form, and beautifully gave the Goblins the excuse to capture him. You had to be a criminally stupid wizard to use any form of magic in the bank without explicit permission.

"Superior mouse trap, my friend." Tony crowed, "I congratulate you. Would you be adverse to me talking him to the DMLE?" He asked, showing a hint of the Nobel Lord he would have to play when needed.

Ragnorak nodded, sneering, "We don't want cowardly filth stinking up our land."

Tony bowed his head, "Thank you for your support."

Ragorak poked the cage, "He should be stripped of his magic for oath breaking."

Remus flashed a fang, "I could always eat him."

Tony snickered but didn't dismiss his idea completely. Glad to see the man was beginning to openly acknowledge his wolf. Tony knew the power of avoiding marginalising people; after all, once vulnerable, they would be fair game for the dark to recruit. "You know he would only give you indigestion."

"I suppose he is poison." All they got in response was an eep from the captured mouse. At least the last bastard of their day had arrived so they could get on with their day.

Sure enough, "I have the will here."

Tony shook his head in disappointment at the painfully transparent tactics the old man had employed. He'd had a private bet with his husband about what tactic he'd employ, and Tony had won. Dumbledore looked around the room, and Tony guessed he was surprised to see unimpressed, glaring faces staring back at him.

Dumbledore tried to get the room back on his side, asking gently, "What has taken place?"

Tony stared back, knowing the bastard didn't have a hope of cracking his mental defences, "Headmaster Dumbledore, great to meet you despite the circumstances. Too bad you were late for the actual will reading, as it was quite shocking." Tony stood behind Severus, placing a comforting hand on the man's shoulder.

Tony hadn't introduced himself, and it was clear the Headmaster was trying to see his ring, which is why he stood behind Severus.

The old man didn't give up or appear concerned, "I arrived at the time I requested for the bank."

Tony smiled sunnily, "Too bad the real will was already executed."

"What could you possibly mean?" The old headmaster clearly didn't like the brash American and wasn't close enough to see the ring on his finger.

Severus rolled his eyes at the pathetic attempt to deny it and deflected Albus' attention. "I chose to live in America to avoid being pressed into Voldemort's service, but that didn't mean I lost contact with my friends. I was Lily’s confidant and executor, Albus.”

"Is that how you ended up with young Harry?" The glint in his eye was positively dangerous. This was a man on a mission who didn't like to be thwarted. Severus thought he would be better at hiding it, but he figured Albus hadn't known many who would challenge him.

Tony stood between Dumbledore and his ward and husband, "She used a death sacrifice to send him to his godparent because that was her wish, and we will be blood-adopting him as the will requested. I can think of no greater honour than to abide by Lady Potter's final wishes." Tony couldn't explain it, but he knew they would have to blood-adopt Harry in order to keep him safe.

"Harry should be with Lily's sister." The Headmaster entreated as if they should care about his opinion above the Potters. "He will be safe there."

Severus shook his head, "Petunia hated magic, and she would raise that boy worse than a house elf. I will not let you take him." Tony stood firm, having met men and wizards like Albus Dumbledore, "Respectfully, Lily let her feelings be known with the spell she cast."

"You can't know it." Dumbledore protested, still unsure how this meeting had got away from him.

"Did you find out what the ritual was by any chance?" Tony queried. If this guy had been a suspect, he would have been able to cut more holes through his story than Swiss cheese.

"No."

Tony smiled, "Don't worry, we can discuss it in the Wizengamot."

"They don't allow Americans," Albus challenged, seemingly glad to have found an avenue to attack.

Tony chuckled, and that was when he knew he'd won this encounter. "Too bad for you, I am Lord Antonius Paddington. Lily Potter declared that we would be Harry Potter's parents should anything happen to us, and you stupidly let the false secret keeper be arrested."

Albus was alarmed, "You don't know what you mean."

Tony shook his head sadly but drew his line in the sand, "I think you mistake me for the adoring public, Headmaster."

Severus spoke up, "It is true, he was raised American, and that means he has no fucks to give, Albus."

"I sense hostility from you."

Tony shook his head and pointed to Remus, "That is probably Consort Black. I mean, allowing a man's mate to be falsely sent to Azkaban that is going to cause some justifiable hostility."

Albus was cautious, "Who did you believe to the Secret Keeper?"

Tony smiled, "I took custody of the real secret keeper with the bank's cooperation."

"Superior mouse trap skills." Remus replied, "I promised everyone I wouldn't eat him."

Albus had no idea what to make of this man. He was clearly the new Lord Paddington, and Clive had always been a paranoid bastard, so he would have been the type to hide his spare heir. The man was powerful and raised to be forward-thinking. It was rare, given the culture amongst the pureblood culture since the first Dark War.

"You have not been in the thick of things." Albus was trying to cast shame on him like he was comparable to Peter.

Tony tilted his head, bemused because this was almost more of a cliche than his original route. He was a little disappointed, considering all he'd learned of the man. "No, you are right. I was fulfilling my Lord's wishes like a good heir. It seems he was fortuitous."

Tony knew better than to deny a point, concede the obvious and keep your ethics clear and then you stopped doubt creeping into your legitimate opinions. It was a trick more than one politician could learn to employ.

"You would deny young Harry, his family?"

Tony sighed, "Headmaster, I am extending my patience to you due to the heavy shocks you have suffered in recent days. Do not treat me with condescension, as you will not like the results. You see, at the moment, I have a new job and a family to look after, and therefore, I have no intention of indulging in politics."

"That is a shame. I feel you would be a breath of fresh air." Remus observed, and there was no lie in those words.

Tony rolled his eyes, "No, we need to settle back into the UK to ensure Harry is safe. I have the elves clearing out the castle ready for our arrival and Severus and I need to adjust to our new bonded servants."

Albus stalked out of the room.

Remus sighed. "Well, that was illuminating and leaves me questioning everything."

Severus looked at his husband, "Where is he on the list?"

Tony ran a hand through his hair, but all the permutations he'd run through his mind made it clear, at least to him. "Well, the other one is a wraith, so he may as well be on top of it."

Chapter 6: Testing a Chapter

Chapter Text

Chapter 6: Testing a theory

Tony sucked in a breath because he had the sense he was going to need to accelerate certain matters to avoid unnecessary meddling. “Ragorak, would you be agreeable to sorting the magical adoption for us today?”

The Goblin grinned, seeing the game the wizard was playing. “Of course, for our favourite wizard and I will even throw in a goblin authentication of the day’s events when it gets before the Wizengamot.”

“And this is why I wish you all the gold in the world,” Tony replied without missing a beat. He agreed with Ragorak that Dumbledore would try and use the Wizengamot to forward his agenda.

Severus smirked because while this was a stressful time he could tell that his Husband was enjoying the challenge. “You are going to make a habit of ruining Dumbledore’s plans, aren’t you?”

Tony shrugged because as far as he was concerned his plate should be full with Deatheaters but if Dumbledore wanted to be added to his list then that was on the old wizard. “If I weren’t going to force an ICW foothold in the country this afternoon, I would make it a hobby.”

Sev knew of this plan and he was more than willing to seek outside help considering their own ministry was so ineffective in rooting out the dark wizards. He had hated it before taking Harry’s custody but now it was an out-and-out problem. “I will take up the cause on your behalf and get the mutts to help. After all, it will help channel their mischief into appropriate avenues.”

“There is the Slytherin I know and love,” Tony replied without missing a beat.

Little Harry was squirming, and Tony figured while they were there. “Can we also ask a healer to look at that scar? It is making my skin itch.”

Ragorak peered closer. “You think it will cause harm?”

Tony nodded, “I do because the charm we’re using is a temporary measure, and I want it fixed before it bites us in the ass.”

Severus understood the logic behind it. In his mind, the sticking point was the pain it was likely to cause Harry, who, for someone so young, had already gone through so much. It seemed almost unfair to make him go through more.

~*~

The blood adoption was a quick process when done in the hands of a goblin master healer. Tony reluctantly left for his meeting with the ICW and Severus stayed behind at the bank for the healing of their son.

Gibbs was an older wizard who radiated on every level that you shouldn’t mess with him. Tony had agreed to be his second in their new team. “So you are aiming to cause waves in England?”

Tony rolled his eyes, “I didn’t plan on taking up the Lordship but the dark wanker killed my Uncle and managed to make me a father for the cutest little kid who needs a protector.”

Gibbs was quicker than most and slotted the information together, “You have Potter then.”

Tony nodded, “Yeah, Lady Potter had named Sev his godfather and she was badass. She used her death to fuel a protection ritual. Voldie must have been furious when he realised she had effectively set him up.”

Gibbs smirked in agreement because he had read the report and agreed with the assessment. There was nothing more powerful than a parent’s love and when fuelled with being the brightest witch of the age - you had a lot of room for crazy plans. He knew that he and Tony would make a dynamic team but he was aware enough to know the man’s priorities had changed. “Do you still want the job as your circumstances have changed?”

Tony appreciated the question, “I would request that we set up shop in England and hunt down every dark bastard that was part of Voldie’s club. If that sounds agreeable to you.”

Gibbs played devil's advocate. “Some would say that is not our jurisdiction.”

Tony glared, “It is what is right and you do love a hunt. I will sort the jurisdiction nonsense out today that is the last thing on my to-do list. ”

Tony had the agreement for their M age C ritical R esponse T eam to be allowed to work in England to hunt down Deatheaters. Perfection, and just in time for the emergency Wizengamot meeting that had been called. It was almost like Dumbledore thought he could bully him or catch him unawares.

~*~

Sev was already in their box when Tony appeared. Tony was dressed in ICW robes but quickly morphed them into the expected robes of a Lord of the Realm. He didn’t bother with his wand because it was a simple spell. Severus sneered at the looks of shock from other Lords and Ladies about his husband. He wondered what shocked and bothered them more, his real job or the casual power he had just displayed?

The seal on their box showed the combination of the House of Prince and Paddington. He was glad for the privacy charm as he could have a decent conversation and no one would be the wiser. “Did you have a productive afternoon?”

Tony took Harry into arms as it was clear the little one wanted his attention. Harry had only been with them a short while but the intelligence in his eyes was clear as magic. Tellingly there was a lighter feel to their child’s aura. “Is the mark sorted?”

Severus snorted, as it was more than sorted, “The bank is furious and the Goblin King is after the wraith of Voldemort.”

Wow. That was vindictive even for the Goblins as they tend to favour money over war. Well, unless they had a serious reason, “Any particular reason?”

Severus couldn’t believe that dark bastard had been so stupid and egotistical. “The bastard made a Horcrux and that was what was in Harry’s head.”

Tony was too well read not to know what he was talking about, but wow, that was a lot. “Sweet Merlin. I am so glad that Dumbledore made me speed up our actions. I can’t imagine poor Harry having to put up with the bastard.”

Sev rolled his eyes, “Why not? We have to put up with the other one?” He said inclining his head towards the headmaster.

Tony grinned right back, “But we’re about to have so much fun. Too bad we won’t be able to hide in the shadows after this meeting.”

It was a necessary evil because they would always prefer to be underestimated. However, Harry was worth it.

~*~

“We call this session to order,” Minister Bagold announced.

The boxes settled and seemingly rearranged to denote the current lines of power. Tony and Severus caught people’s eyes as the Prince and Paddington boxes were together. Of course, no one had the guts to say anything directly to them but felt free to stare and whisper furtively.

Tony had no shame, and grinned, “I think we may have struck a few nerves.”

Snape sighed, “And let the lies begin.”

Dumbledore was the one to bring the first motion. “A decision must be made over the boy-who-lived and where he should reside.”

The furore broke out as everyone clamoured to add their bid. Tony stood up, and took charge by directly questioning, “Is it the Wizengamot’s intention to ignore Lord and Lady Potter’s dying wish?”

Dumbledore lost the infamous twinkle and responded feigning shock, “Of course not. It is his safety we are concerned for.”

Tony smiled, but stood tall and firm, “I thank you for the misplaced concern but even in the twenty-four hours since we have adopted him as per Lady Potter’s Will. I have ensured that my son is safer than you could hope.”

“You cannot say for certain.”

Tony rolled his eyes and went in for the kill not willing to draw this out. “Minister Baggold. I have captured Peter Pettigrew who was the Secret Keeper. The Goblins have conducted a thorough health review on my son and removed a dark curse that could have caused him significant harm.”

“And that was all before you went to work today. I would say we are more than capable of handing his custody.” Severus added in a sweetly acidic tone.

Tony smirked, “Indeed and as an ICW Hit Wizard I petitioned for a team to be sent on detachment to the UK so we can hunt down the Death Eaters so they face justice. You’re welcome, Minister.”

“Now hang on a minute.” A new voice joined in.

Tony turned to face Malfoy, “Yes, Lord Malfoy.”

“You don’t have the authority to act.” The man hissed in alarm and Tony was guessing he had his first supporter to target to hunt down.

Tony shook his head in denial, “I do as both a Lord of the Realm, and as a Parent. Surely we want a safe place to raise our heirs?”

“You said that Pettigrew was captured.” Lucius stated, “So where is he?”

Tony threw the rat cage onto the floor in a very visible statement. “There. I assume you were getting around to asking for Lord Black to be released, Lord Malfoy and the shocking miscarriage of justice to your cousin-in-law.”

“Of course.”

Baggold seeing how this performance was going wanted to bring proceedings back under control. If she let this new Lord speak then they would all be out of a job. “I thank Lord Paddington for his swift measures in supporting the realm. Aurors take Mr Pettigrew into custody and we will arrange for Lord Black to be removed swiftly.”

This wasn’t over but it was a start.

Chapter 7: Truth and Shadows

Chapter Text

Tony and Severus stood and walked out with the Aurors as they didn't want anything untoward to happen to Sirius 'accidentally'. The couple were of one mind as Severus called out, “Misbie!”

Misbie was the house elf assigned to little Harry. She appeared in a flash with a cute little gingham dress on but the belt around the dress wasn’t sweet. It was full of tools and weapons, the Aurors were staring in undisguised horror. It made her feel self-conscious and Tony didn't even know Elves could pout, ”What’s wrong with my outfit, Lord Tony?”

Tony smirked but answered as if it was a serious question. “Nothing at all and I love the way you accessorise. The twins may complain there is too much colour.”

Severus had no such issue and smiled as he handed over their son, “Can you take him back to the nursery and inform Consort Black that he should meet us at the entrance to Azkaban?”

She nodded primly and smiled as she tucked her charge into her side.  “Should I ask the twins to join you? You know they will pout if they can’t start accompanying you soon.”

Tony’s smirk grew because that seemed only fair, “Yes, they can accompany, Consort Black to meet us at Azkaban.”

After Misbie disappeared, the first Auror spoke, “Why is the House Elf armed?”

Tony rolled his eyes because they must have seen Uncle Clive’s little shadows unless he was in full-blown paranoia before the last attack. Still, Tony remembered he was a Lord and that required a more cultured response. “Paddington Elves are trained to protect their charges especially when they perform Nanny Duties.”

The other Auror was now intrigued, as this custom had fallen out of fashion. “Is she a bonded elf?”

Tony chuckled at least some of the aurors knew what questions to ask. “Of course, and if that blew your mind. I can’t wait until you see our bonded elves.”

Severus snorted because it was going to be just as confusing. Still, he wouldn’t let prejudices harm their family and warned the travelling Aurors. “Just remember that they are bonded and an attack on them will be met with severity. We’re fond of them.”

“Do they dress in gingham?” Auror Two asked trying to imagine how they might appear not wanting to act with such shock.

Tony shook his head, a smile on his face remembering their cute little ninja outfits. “Not even close.”

Remus knew he would have to accept the title of Consort Black. It was more apparent as the Wizengamot had seen his title used. He’d always tried to hide due to his wolfy problem but it seemed that the Paddington-Prince family was not accepting of that plan.

The nanny elf reappeared with Harry who was still smiling he found it amazing considering Harry's last few days. “Oh goodie, Consort Black you are's here. Lord Tony and Lord Sev want to get Lord Black and you should be there.”

Remus hadn’t seen the Nanny elf yet and he knew that if Lily was alive she would be cooing at how cute the outfit was, and respecting the lethality mixed into the design. “I want the maker of your belt.”

Misbie smiled, “We are self-sufficient house elves we make all that we need to protect the land and our family. I can make one for you if Lord Tony, or Lord Severus says yes.”

You could tell that it was a culture that all of the house elves believed and Remus marvelled at such a shift in thinking. He knew that if any of the other members of the Wizengamot heard they would have an apolexy.

Remus looked at the two new elves who appeared at Misbie’s side - and these elves were going to cause so many discussions. He personally thought the ninja outfits were adorable. He couldn’t wait to see what Lucius made of the outfits. Although knowing his prissy nature he would probably have a French-designed outfit for all his house elves to keep up appearances.

Remus was waiting as patiently as he could and was trying to keep his emotions calm so that he could focus on Sirius. Remus could see the cage holding Peter and he sneered showing a little fang uncaring of the Aurors. He asked Tony, “Are you sure I cannot eat him?”

Tony had to remember he was a Lord and about to start a new job respecting the law. Although that didn't mean he couldn't speak his mind, “I would suggest that you refrain as he would surely cause you an illness all that deception is bound to be decaying.”

Remus sighed mournfully, “I suppose you are right.”  A frown crossed his features seeing his old headmaster apparate close to them. “What in Merlin’s damnation are you doing here, Albus?”

The Headmaster had some nerve, “Why? I wanted to congratulate Sirius on his release.”

Severus was not the type to be awed by anyone and pressed, “Is that not a bit rich considering you could have seen him released?”

Tony smirked, “Be fair now husband.  I am sure he had his reasons. I mean why else would he fail to mention the changing secret keeper?”

Dumbledore bowed his head as if he were ashamed, “You should forgive an old man his foolish errors. The Dark Lord has many spies, and I wondered if he had got to Sirius.”

It was telling that Severus was the one to defend the incarcerated man as it was well known that there was no love lost between the two men. “The stupid mutt was many things but a traitor wasn't one of them. From the start of Hogwarts, he adored Potter and he would never have harmed a hair on Harry's head.”

Albus bowed his head to acknowledge the truth of this, and countered, “That may be so but I believe this the same with young Peter.”

Remus was the one to refute this, “Not even close headmaster he was a coward who stayed with the Marauders for protection and we allowed it.”

Tony shook his head in sadness, “I am so sorry that he repaid your kindness with treachery, Consort Black.”

Albus was clearly alarmed, “You have accepted the position?”

Remus played it coy and to perfection. “Why yes, I was told the Blacks always appreciated danger and beauty so why shouldn’t Lord Black marry a werewolf? In truth, we married at the same time as James and Lily. It seemed fitting but Sirius respected my request to hide from society.”

Tony chuckled, “By the light, you might make the Wizengamot bearable. I am so glad you have stopped hiding, my friend.”

Dumbledore stormed off seeing that he wasn’t going to get between this seemingly new forming power bloc. He would need to retreat and reevaluate his plans. He didn’t like to be thwarted and he hadn’t planned for Tony Paddington.

Remus remarked, “He doesn’t like you.”

Tony snorted, “I am not going to be inviting him to my Yule Party so we will both have to be disappointed. Come along it is time to collect your husband and then plan what comes next.”

The Aurors were still standing around awkwardly not quite sure what they should do. No, that wasn’t true. They needed to get Lord Black out and then throw this stinking rat into the same room. "Right, you are, Lord Paddington we will be back shortly."
