Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Semester break would be over in three days meaning that the daily lives of teachers and students would come any time soon. It was not only students who felt upset the moment they realized about this fact, but teachers also felt the same way; including Arthit as well. Especially this year was different than previous ones since he has to become a homeroom teacher for the second-year students in high school just because Mr. David has retired. Yes, it should be good news to Arthit for becoming a homeroom teacher. However, he did not mind about that fact but actually there was another factor in which made him dwell in his thought.
For instance, he got anxious by simply imagining himself handled the students right before they reached their final year. In Arthit’s perspective, a homeroom teacher for second-year students was not an easy task to do. It was their responsibility to make sure their students knew what university and major they have to chase after. If they did not, then it could be the teachers’ fault for not successfully guiding their students to find out their dream. Not to mention Arthit was a teacher in one of the excellent high schools in Bangkok, that was definitely doubled the burden.
❛No. No I should not be thinking like this,❜ Arthit shook his head several times to not let himself drawn in his deep thought. At these times, he should have faith in himself instead of overthinking about his future.
“You got this Arthit! You can do it!” Arthit rose from his chair as he exclaimed, but yeah thanks to his clumsiness now all the customers of cat café were all looking at him. Arthit felt all of the eyes were on him and the cat café became quiet all of sudden; leaving the music player became the only sound of this room for several seconds. Arthit could not bear this awkward situation anymore, so he grabbed his wallet and jacket swiftly before he headed out from Little Fella Café. Right arm was raised to cover his half face to cover the red hue which decorated all over his cheeks, well actually anybody could see it from his ears too.
❛Aaaahhh that was really embarrassing! How can I blurt out my inner thought in a public place?!❜ Arthit wanted just to go back to his room and not going anywhere until he had to go outside for dinner only. Thus, he tried to hurry his way home back even if he must fasten his pace of steps.
“..thit! Mr. Arthit!” the teacher could have sworn that he heard someone was calling out his name. But nah, he thought it must be his imagination. Arthit just did not want to stay outside anymore and not meeting with the people who witnessed his most of embarrassing incident on this day, so he just kept walking and walking. Until a light tap could be sensed on his shoulder, Arthit did not have any choice but to turn around to see the person.
Unfortunately, Arthit could not see a clear vision of the male in front of him although the distance was not that far. Yet he could tell that he was not familiar with the man, so why he could know his name?
“Wait, before you say something how can you know my name?”
“Oh that…” he scratched his nape and grinned toward Arthit.
“Earlier at the café you encouraged yourself out loud…and I heard ‘Arthit’ so I believe it’s your name…?” oh great. So great, a customer from the café remembered his embarrassing incident and also his name.
“Anyway, I want to give your glasses back to you…you left it,” the man with denim shirt and white t-shirt as his inner handed Arthit’s glasses. Arthit then took back his glasses but he did not want to wear; not when the man was around. He did not want to remember his face or even asking his name back.
“Thank you, I’m in a hurry so I should get going,” Arthit then continued his footsteps in order to reach his home soon. The man who handed the glasses still stood there and watched Arthit’s back until it could not be seen anymore.
“Arthit…yeah he is one of the customers who often visited Little Fella, I hope he will come back even after the incident,” the male said while a smile decorated his visage.

Chapter Text
The first week of every semester was usually being used for casual formalities in order to make the teacher and students knew each other more, but there were some teachers who choose to drop the tradition and do light practices as their warm-up. In the end, it was all depended on the teacher’s preferences. For Arthit’s case, he preferred to do the second option and this was the reason why he was known as one of the strict teachers in the school. But no worries, his level of strictness was still tolerizeable compared to the senior teachers, if not then he would not be able to laugh together along with the students during his class.
“Good morning Mr. Arthit!” greeted by the students whoever crossed with Arthit on the corridor. Of course, the whole school could easily memorize him since he was known as the youngest, smart (and handsome) teacher in the school. Perhaps that was the reason why he mostly gets greeted by female students, but still, he did not treat female students differently; everyone got equal treatment by Arthit. There was no such thing as the teacher’s pet in his dictionary, he even did not give extra treatment for students who recently won a national debate competition.
Teacher Office, 09.50 AM
Arthit was preparing all the stuff that were essential for his first meeting for the next class, which was 2-B. The one which would be in Arthit’s care since he became the homeroom teacher.
“Mr. Arthit, I have the feeling that you’ve been waiting for the next class no?” the counseling teacher, Earth raised a question upon the youngest teacher. Arthit’s first response was a burst of soft laughter.
“Ah it’s not like that Ms. Earth, I just want to make sure I don’t leave anything behind,” he came closer to whisper something toward Earth.
“I don’t want to be looked clumsy by my students,” a thin smile then appeared on her lips. Leaving a good impression on the first day was beneficial for all teachers, Earth really did understand of Arthit’s feelings as his colleague. Her gaze then diverted to Arthit, looking from his head to toe. Indeed, his appearance looked neat enough as a teacher. She never gets bored to see Arthit if she must be honest, moreover, he wore his glasses instead of contact lenses making him looked younger and has a fresh look.
Riinngg!
A loud sound came from the school bell was a sign that the break was over and the next class would be continued. It was the time for Arthit headed toward class 2-B.
“Excuse me Ms. Earth, I will go ahead first,” he said as he wai-ed to her before he picked up his stuff and walked out from the office. Arthit then took the stairs just because his class would be on the second floor and when he reached on the second floor, he still saw some students still hang around on the corridor. But it was okay. They would go back to their own classes when their teacher came and it was not other teacher’s responsibility to take care of them. They were all high school students after all. Once Arthit stepped inside to the class, the whole students went back to their seats and some students from the corridor returned too.
“Good morning everyone,” Arthit said after the situation was conducive enough and all students’ gaze locked on the teacher who stood in the front of the class. Arthit stared at each student thoroughly, not because he wanted to create a threatening environment but he just wanted to memorize their faces. He even realized there were some students who already put books and pencil case because they knew that Arthit was known as one of the teachers who would do light practices on the first day. Well, today was different. He was a homeroom teacher of class 2-B, so he should do more efforts to create an enjoyable, secured and safe environment so the learning process would not be hampered.
“I just realized there are many students who aren’t taught by me at your first year, so I will have a proper introduction first,” he grabbed a marker and write down his name on the board.
“I’m Arthit Rojnapat, a physics teacher for 1- A and the whole second year classes. But for this class, 2-B, my role is also as your homeroom teacher. So, I’m looking forward to these two semesters,” he said with a smile decorated his face and accompanied by his adorable dimples. The students then responded “Nice to meet you Mr. Arthit.” altogether.
“Since I still don’t know your names, let me check the students’ attendance,” he said then he called out the first until the last absent with a loud voice. Alright, now it was the time to get into the main of his class. Arthit then proceeded to the selection of the class president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. At first, he wanted to make sure if there were students who willingly to become the candidate before he went to plan B, in which letting the other students choose their friends to become candidates with a proper reason. Luckily, the process went quite smooth even though there were some students who managed to lift up the whole class by a humor, even Arthit chuckled on the joke. The physics teacher then wrote down the names who have won the election through voting.
“Give applause to your friends!” without further ado, the whole class clapped their hands together including Arthit. He believed that the chosen students needed encouragement from their friends so they could feel the sense of ‘we are in this together’. Afterward, he gave a sheet from the counselling office to thirty students.
“It’s a personal datasheet. Please fill out the sheet and I’ll be waiting for fifteen minutes. If you have any questions just raise your hand,” he said then he sat on his own chair, waiting for the next fifteen minutes had passed. In those fifteen minutes, he used it for memorizing their names and faces; he was bad in remembering names. So far, he could only remember the students who previously had been taught by him during their first year and the students who won through voting. Hopefully, he could remember the rest of it as soon as possible though.
Arthit then looked to the class clock to check if the fifteen minutes already passed and it was already the time. Thus, he collected the sheets from each student and went back to his seat. Before he continued the last step, he cleared his throat first before he asked the secretary to come forward. Then, a female student with brown-haired approached Arthit with a thin smile appeared on her lips and waited for Arthit’s next instruction.
“Jane, can you help me to write down everything that’s written in this paper?” good thing he could remember her name correctly. Jane, the secretary of class 2-B took the paper from Arthit and nodded as a sign of confirmation.
“As we’re waiting for Jane to finish, I want to say that you’ll see the rules that’ll be applied in my class. But this doesn’t mean my rules is absolute, so once we’ve reached an agreement then no one is recommended to break the rules or else there are some consequences you have to take.”
The rules were less than five points but he believed that this was essential to keep the classroom safe and more conducive to learning. After Jane has finished, Arthit allowed her to go back to her seat. And of course, he managed to say thank you to his student softly yet Jane could still hear it.
Rules in Physics Class
- No cellphones and keep it in silent mode.
*You’re allowed to use it when there’s a phone call or when I give the permission to use.
- No cheating during quiz and exam.
- Don’t be late for more than 10 minutes.
- Drinks and foods are allowed.
*Foods are allowed only on Thursday and it must be sandwich or anything as long as it does not have strong fragrance.
“Alright, so these four points will be applied in my class. Is there anyone who wants to ask about these rules? Or you can even object the rules if you feel it’s not reasonable,” Arthit said while he stood from his chair so he could observe his class reaction more. Most of them were discussing the rules with their friends but there was none of them dared to ask a certain point that piqued their curiosity.
“It’s really fine if there’s something bothering you. I won’t bite you guys,” Arthit said with chuckle escaped from his lips. A few minutes later, finally, someone raised his hand to ask a question to his homeroom teacher.
“Well sir I want to ask, why foods are allowed only on Thursday and not on Monday as well? Is there something special on Thursday?”
“Good question, thank you Tom for pointing that out. Basically, it’s because Physics becomes our first lesson on Thursday. I notice there are many students who choose to skip their breakfast so they can be on time, but it will also affect their learning process and I don’t want that to happen to all of you. So, I believe your health is one of the most important things to prioritize,” it seemed the rest of the students’ question was also the same with Tom’s since Arthit could see many students nodded their head and it became more quiet than before.
“As for the consequences when you break the rules, it’s depended on how serious the problem is. So, do you guys have any questions left before I established the rules for official?” a question was thrown by Arthit just to make sure. He only got silence as a return, it could be also interpreted as agreement from the class. Therefore, he announced the class that the rules were officially established and he asked his students to write down the rules on the first page of their notebook. There was nothing he could do after established the rules, he thought it was the time to end his class faster than it should be.
“Oh, I actually didn’t tell you from the beginning. For today’s class, I will end it here. We will begin the first lesson starting from Thursday and also,” he wrote down his phone number on the board before he left the class.
“This is my number in case you need help, have a question or let me know the reason why you can’t come to the school. Make sure you don’t make loud noises to not disturb other classes and thank you,” a thin smile was shown on his face before he went outside of the class. Obviously, the students who had been taught by Arthit were quite shocked to see the changes in their homeroom teacher.
“Oh god, I think Mr. Arthit will be one of my favorite teachers!”
“Oh really Jane? Is it because of his kindness for giving extra free time or his looks?” Jane’s chair mate could understand her best friend the most if it comes to boys.
“Nam, please you know me from junior high school. I’m actually having doubts on you if you don’t feel attracted by Mr. Arthit’s persona and such.”
“Why should I? But he has my respects though, I can sense he’s a kind teacher, unlike the others who only think grades are matters,” and so the whole class spent their free time either it was for talking to their chair mate, playing their phones or even listening to a song through earphones.
After School, 03.45 PM
Finally, the first day was over. Various students went straight to their houses so they could have a rest but there were some students who hang out at the canteen before they headed back. However, the school club activities would be back starting from next week, it was the rules from the school. Nam who did not have anything much to do after the school decided to went straight to her house along with her uncle. Fortunately, her uncle was in his free time so he could fetch her on her first day.
“How was your school?” Nam’s uncle asked to create a conversation between them in the car. Nam sat back and rested her back on the seat before giving her opinion.
“It’s good. I don’t have to study for the first day, so I just spent the whole day talking to my friends,” she said to her uncle whose focus was on the road since he was currently driving the car.
“Is that so? Who’s your homeroom teacher? I heard his class is today, right?” Nam heaved a sigh when her uncle brought that topic. She just spent her entire day in class to hear her classmates discussed their impression of Arthit and now there was another person besides her classmates who also wanted to talk about him? She had enough with it.
“Jeez, let’s not talk about my homeroom teacher. He is like my trending topic in the class so I’m not in the mood to talk about him, alright uncle Kong? I promise I’ll tell about him later on,” Kongpob then respected his niece's request to not talk about this popular homeroom teacher so he just chuckled and turned on the radio. Let’s just slipped this topic away for this occasion.
“Fine fine, I got it Nam. Anyway…want to buy something for dinner?” in the end, the conversation was still continued and neither of them talked about Nam’s homeroom teacher. After all, it did not matter to Kongpob or Nam, so why they have to discuss him right?
Notes:
I personally want to see Kongpob's priceless reaction too when he finds out Nam's homeroom teacher is Arthit...but yeah let's have it in the future ;)

Arthit’s Condo, 08.00 AM
Morning sun rays peeked in between the curtains to land itself on a certain male making him slowly opened his eyes. But he just still laid back on the bed with his position in which the sheets tangled close around his body, plastered to his thighs. It felt really nice to just stay in his bed for the whole day after he had been through the first week in school. Fortunately, there was no any problem Arthit has encountered yet and also he felt that his efforts to be more opened up when he interacted to class 2-B were good enough even if it was a small progression. Perhaps Arthit would let it organically in order to look more natural.
“Guess I’ll just have mac and cheese,” Arthit said in a low yet husky voice, more like in his bedroom voice. He should get some water to get rid of his thirst before he cooked for breakfast, doing his laundry, and others. He lazily got out of the bed and extended out his hand to pick his glasses up on the desk and put it on. Arthit held a glass and poured some water into it, he drank it until the glass was empty. He then placed it on the mini dining table which was also has been refilled with water, it was for his drink later when he ate the mac and cheese. After that, he prepared all utensils that were needed and an instant macaroni and cheese box.
Arthit turned on his phone once he had had his breakfast, there were several notifications from several social media yet most of them were from official accounts. Sad? Yeah Arthit knew, but he did not really care about it. However, there was one notification LINE that got him to be curious, it was from a chemistry teacher in Ivy high school.
LINE
Tad: Good morning Mr. Arthit, I’m sorry that I must disturb your Saturday morning
: But I want to ask you a favor
Arthit: Morning Mr. Tad, I don’t mind at all. What can I help you?
Tad: You must have known that the pre-service teachers will come on Monday right?
: The thing is, Ms. Pun just called me this morning saying that she can’t come to school because of fever
: Can you handle Ms. Pun’s pre-service teacher for the time being?
Perhaps the reason why Tad chose Arthit was that he was the youngest teacher, it would make the communication got easier than other teachers. Also noted that not all teacher accepted their presence with a warm welcome.
Arthit: Definitely Mr. Tad, I don’t mind at all
Tad: Thank you so much Mr. Arthit, I know I can count on you. After this, I’ll send you his data. So you know his face and name
Arthit: All right sir. I’ll be waiting
Arthit’s hand immediately took ahold of the black remote control. He fiddled with the buttons and searched for news while he waited for a file to be sent by Tad. It did not take so much time for receiving the file, he then opened the file and adjusted his glasses.
“Kongpob Suthiluck, an English teacher for the second-year students? Almost the same as me,” his gaze then locked on the photo before he read the rest of Kongpob’s personal data. But, was it just his feelings but he felt like he had seen this man before? Arthit shook his head slightly, maybe it was just his imagination, he was certain that he never encountered Kongpob before.
“He seemed a friendly teacher to me,” well, ̶s̶e̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶b̶y̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ ̶A̶r̶t̶h̶i̶t̶.̶
Since Arthit has got the information, he finally started his chores from making the bed, washing the dishes, and doing his laundry.
Little Fella, 04.00 PM
Spending your free time outside of the house in the weekend sounded a good idea for some people, including Kongpob. But that was not his biggest reason to come to a cat café and letting himself surrounded by cute yet lazy cats, the thing was he wanted to suppress his anxiety of him becoming a pre-service teacher at an excellent high school in Bangkok. Kongpob could not think anything other than cats to make him relieve some stress and his decision was correct. He smiled at the cat which slept in his lap, just by looking a cat slept could make him forget about his negative feeling.
A sweet escape, Kongpob could say.
“It’s been one hour already, yet I don’t spot him until now,” he muttered to himself while his gaze was locked on the entrance door. The second reason why he stayed in Little Fella was because he hoped for Arthit willingly to come back after that day. One clarification from Kongpob that he wanted to give if he was asked why he still remembered Arthit, it was not because of the embarrassing incident, but he has already remembered him way before that. Simply because Arthit was quite often visiting the café and always came alone, Kongpob recognized this café was being visited mostly by women. Thus, it did not take much time for Kongpob to remember Arthit. Whenever Kongpob visited Little Fella, usually Arthit would be sitting on the chair where Kongpob currently sitting on.
Kongpob’s attention now was distracted since he could feel his phone vibrate in his pocket, his eyes were on the first notification that popped on the screen. Kongpob opened the chat and there were four unread messages from his friends.
LINE
M: Hey guys, I just checked our school. And damn it why it has to be far from our campus
M’s statement was true. The distance between their campus and the school was quite far so if any one of them still insisted to not find a place near the school it would be so tiring, especially they had to become a pre-service teacher for one semester. Kongpob could actually live in his big sister’s house but he did not want to bother his big sister’s family for the next six months, and so he solved his problem by renting a condo for six months.
Tew: What? Did you just go to the school?
M: Noo not that, I looked it up by gmaps
Tew: More importantly, you should’ve checked it a long time ago. I already know it so I will live in my big brother’s place that’s not far from the school
Kongpob: Me too. But I’ll live in a condo near the school
M: What I mean is, I just know exactly how far from the school to campus. I already know it’s far but yeah I just find out a couple of minutes ago
: There’s no way we have to travel from the school and to condo for the next six months, we’ll be dead lol
Kongpob: I’m with you, I also can’t believe why we get accepted in the finest high school
: Do you guys feel anxious? Or excited?
His hands were busy replying to the group chat while three of them were online. A few minutes later, all of sudden he got a personal chat from M saying that he needed Kongpob’s help to carry his stuff once he has arrived at the new apartment. Well, helping a friend during free time would not be hurt, he thought. Kongpob then carefully put the cat on the floor before he headed out from Little Fella and ready to see M.
Ramen Shop, 07.30 PM
Today was a lucky day for Kongpob, he did not have to spend amount of money for dinner because he previously helped M to carry his stuff to his room on 11th floor.
“It’s my treat, just pick your favorite ramen and drink.”
“Don’t mind if I do,” he was joking to his friend since high school. Kongpob then ordered Miso Ramen and a mineral water, the waiter said their order would be delivered in ten minutes so they searched for vacant tables. Kongpob sat across with M as his attention was on the other customers, he just wanted to have a quick observation of how animated the restaurant was. Even though he has never tried this restaurant before, but he could tell the ramen was delicious from its smell.
“Anyway Kong, I bet you haven’t told your niece that you’re going to teach in her school, have you?” a query from M was responded with a shook from Kongpob. M’s eyebrows were knitted together, he must be thinking of the reason why Kongpob still didn’t tell his niece. Weren’t they closed?
“Why? Are you guys having a quarrel?” it was for Kongpob’s turn to get confused about M’s guessing. There was no way he would be in a bad term with his beloved niece for no reason.
“Not like that. I just want to surprise her, would it be interesting to see her shocked expression when I appear in her school as a teacher?” just imagining how would his niece reacted when she found out Kongpob was a pre-service teacher would be priceless; it was worth to surprise her for sure.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me…” M smiled on seeing his friend’s irreplaceable behavior, Kongpob could become silly sometimes. As they talked, the waiter then came with two ramens and two mineral bottles. Kongpob picked up his chopsticks and stared his ramen for a while, oh boy, it looked tempting to dig in. Without further ado, both of the pre-service teachers ate their ramens to fill their empty stomachs.
Kongpob’s new Condo, 09.05 PM
Kongpob parked his motorcycle in the basement and took the stairs to get to the lobby. He was already full with the ramen he had and actually he would definitely to come back again as long as he could have a taste the delicious ramen was. Kongpob then pressed the elevator button to go upstairs, he could see that the left elevator would be the one to open sooner than the right since it was stopped on the sixth floor so he waited patiently in front of the left elevator to open. Finally, the elevator descended on the lobby and he entered to go to his room which was on the seventh floor.
“I wonder when I ‘ll see him in the café, but will I have the chance to meet him again though?” Kongpob muttered to his own self while he was still inside of the elevator. Meanwhile, a few moments later after the left elevator has closed, the right elevator opened and there was a young male with glasses who was busy talking to someone through his phone.
“Yeah sure sure, talk to you later. I’m going outside,” Arthit then shoved his phone back into his trouser pocket and walked to the food court which was quite near to his place.
Ivy High School, 07.45 AM
Being a morning person sure was beneficial when these kinds of situations happened, Kongpob would rather arrive at the school early so he could be ready for the first day. However, he still did not see Tew or M in the pre-service teacher room so he did not know whom should he talk to until the school started. Should he just tour the school again?
“Don’t tell me they will be late…” when he wanted to ask his friends’ whereabouts, all of sudden a teacher approached Kongpob and then he immediately canceled his action to press his palms together and bow his body slightly.
“Good morning Mr. Kongpob, I’ve been told that you’re the English pre-service teacher for the whole second-year students, am I right?”
“Yes, that’s true sir. Is there anything I can help?”
“Ah actually, I just received the news that Ms. Pun had a fever so she wouldn’t be able to introduce you to several classes. Will you be fine if another teacher replaces Ms. Pun for temporary?” if Kongpob has to be frank, he actually wanted another teacher replaced Ms. Pun while he was here. She was in charge of teaching the whole second-year students and two classes of first-year students, but have faith in Kongpob, she was hard to be reached and cold person. Kongpob even has difficulties to approach her.
“It’s fine sir, I’ll be fine with anyone,” he said with a wide smile. After getting the younger’s response, the teacher then lead the way toward the teacher office to introduce the teacher who would accompany him on the first day. The teacher just stopped at the entrance and his eyes were searching on a certain figure, ah there he was sitting on his own desk. Kongpob then followed his steps and sometimes he exchanged glances with other teachers he came across to, he then wai-ed them to show his respect. However, his attention was distracted when his eyes laid on the teacher who was looked young, wore glasses and sipped his mineral water.
❛Is it really him?❜ Kongpob thought in his mind and he was unable to hide his shocked expression.
Arthit has seen two men approached his desk, he then put down his glass and quickly rose from his chair. He greeted both of them politely and his attention was wholly directed to the tan-skinned teacher beside Tad. Arthit could notice his facial expression he was wearing, why he did look so surprised to meet Arthit even though this was their first time to meet?
“Hello, my name is Ar-“
“It’s really you, Mr. Arthit!” Kongpob cheerfully exclaimed once it was confirmed that the person who was standing in front of him was the same person who often visited Little Fella and the one he has been waiting for to come to his café two days ago. Now it was Arthit’s turn to feel stunned realizing the fact that Kongpob has known his name before he had the chance to introduce.
“You both guys actually know each other? Well this makes things get easier, now you two can have a talk more at outside,” Tad said and left the young teachers behind. A cheerful grin was plastered on Kongpob’s face and Arthit could feel excitement radiated around from Kongpob’s body, but as for Arthit he actually did not feel the same as Kongpob did.
“Let’s talk outside,” even though Kongpob was younger than Arthit, he still needed to show some respect as a fellow teacher. Arthit then walked ahead first toward the outside of the teacher office and he would make sure to use his remaining time before the first class began digging up the information he needed from Kongpob.
Arthit then brought Kongpob to the outside of the room to talk about what they have to do on Kongpob’s first day as a teacher, but most importantly, he must ask about the background of Kongpob knew his name. They then sat on two vacant seats in front of the pre-service teacher room.
“Wait before you ask anything, how can you know my name? Have we met before?” Kongpob could not help but laugh on the question even though he has already tried his best to not laugh on a serious occasion.
“What’s so funny? Does my face look weird to you?” Arthit felt offended by Kongpob’s response when he was trying to be serious on this occasion. Kongpob waved his hand in the air as an indication to Arthit that he got the wrong idea.
“It’s just…your question exactly the same thing when I returned your glasses. Do you still remember me? I’m the one who actually saw you at Little Fella too,” with his usual wide smile was still visible by Arthit’s eyesight. However, for Arthit’s case, he was flustered when the pre-service teacher mentioned that day. He could feel his cheeks were getting hotter yet he wanted to play it cool; especially when this person was around.
“Can you keep it as a secret? That’s too embarrassing for me to remember and don’t tell anyone…” Even if Arthit did not tell him to keep it as a secret between both of them, he already made up his mind to not reveal this secret to anyone. Kongpob wanted to keep it by himself.
“I’m fine with it Mr. Arthit. Oh and I almost forgot to have a proper introduction to you since I get worked up to finally meet you.”
“I’m Kongpob. Kongpob Suthiluck, an English pre-service teacher for the whole second-year students that will last for one semester. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Arthit,” he said as his lips were tugged upwards in a smile. Arthit felt glad that his hunch about the other male was right, Kongpob was a polite and friendly teacher after all. This should not be a heavy load to be taken care of while the actual person in charge was gone.
“I’m Arthit Rojnapat, a physics teacher for class 1-A and the whole second-year students. I’m also a homeroom teacher for class 2-B,” hold on a second. Did Kongpob just hear that Arthit was the homeroom teacher for his niece? How come he did not know this after all this time, Nam has been telling him about her days when she was taught by her homeroom teacher but she never revealed who was this person. But it turned out Nam’s homeroom teacher was someone he recognized and someone whom he had been waiting for whenever he went to Little Fella.
“Why are you so quiet? Something in your mind?” Arthit’s question brought Kongpob to reality.
“No, it’s just I’m surprised that you actually have a good career at such a young age. Even though I don’t know your exact age, but looking your face I can feel you’re quite young,” Arthit smiled sheepishly on Kongpob’s compliment.
“You’re right, just for your information, I’m the youngest teacher in here. As a result, everyone can easily remember me and it really helps me too sometimes,” Kongpob then interpreted it as Arthit was a well-known teacher in this school. It must be convenient for a teacher to be remembered by the students, nobody wants to be forgotten. However, this finding also lead him to a certain question.
“But Mr. Arthit, are you already engaged with someone?” Arthit’s eyes went wide to hear an unexpected question coming from someone he just met especially from a person who was way younger than him. They should be talking about what they have got to do together instead of asking personal questions, but wait, perhaps this may be counted as getting know each other as a fellow teacher.
“Of course not, Mr. Kongpob. I’m not married yet,” if he did, he would have been more careful to approach the students so there would be no misunderstanding which could hurt his beloved one.
Kongpob was feeling happy to have the chance to meet Arthit in person and learned a thing about him. He did not feel any harsh or cold treatment from the older teacher, unlike Ms. Pun who was 24/7 unapproachable. He felt like he could be at ease more when he was with Arthit like showing his true nature behind a well-mannered man. Thus, he came closer and masked a playful grin with the physics teacher.
“Then…you’re still looking for someone to fill your heart, aren’t you?” Arthit looked into the younger’s eyes the moment he erased the gap between them, what was he trying to do? Before Arthit could do something, he got teased by Kongpob. Honestly, it made his heartbeat much faster to receive a question he did not usually get…well he usually got asked about wave equation by his students.
“Mr. Kongpob! What’s this all about?” Kongpob immediately retreated before he was misunderstood as crossing the line on his first day at Ivy High School.
“Nothing, I just want to get know you better sir.”
As soon as Arthit wanted to reply to the other male’s utterance, there were two certain men approached Kongpob and Arthit who sat in front of the pre-service teacher room. At first, they wanted to greet their friend first, but when they realized the person who sat right next to Kongpob was a teacher they wai-ed to Arthit and had to watch their behavior.
“Good morning sir,” said them in unison.
“Morning, you two must be Mr. Kongpob’s friends, right?”
“Yes, that’s right sir. I’m Tew, a physical education teacher for all second-year students. And this man is M, he’s a biology teacher who will teach all second-year students too.” Arthit nodded slightly, but he just noticed one fact from these three guys that they belong to different majors.
“And you must be Kongpob’s senior, are you?” M asked out of curiosity.
“For temporary, yes. It’s supposed to be Ms. Pun but she’s in a bad shape.” Since they were talking about teachers who were in charge for the pre-service teachers, M asked Arthit if the teachers they have been looking for were already inside of the office. Arthit then confirmed to Kongpob’s friends that the teachers were there, so they excused themselves to go to the office.
“Wait,” Arthit said, making them stop their footsteps. He rose from his seat and stared at them.
“I just want to give you some advice. Next time, when you want to mention someone’s name you should use pronoun ‘Mr’ or ‘Ms’ even if you’re referring to your own friends. I actually don’t mind but there are some teachers who are strict when it comes to manners,” Arthit just wanted to remind them before they might actually get into trouble because of a small matter. M even did not realize that he just made a mistake, but thank goodness his mistake was only being witnessed by Arthit who did not fuss about it.
“Thank you sir…we’ll keep it in our mind,” they then continued to walk toward the teacher office. Meanwhile, Arthit could hear soft chuckle erupted from the other male, he glanced at Kongpob as he also rose from his seat.
“You really are a kind teacher, Mr. Arthit. Students must really have liked you especially class 2-B.”
“I just don’t want them to get troubled and this is also included to you.” The morning bell rang throughout the corridor as a signal that classes would start any time soon. Either teachers and students must be prepared to proceed to the first lesson, this was included to Kongpob and Arthit.
“Mr. Kongpob, I’ll get my things and let’s meet again near with the stairs,” Kongpob nodded to Arthit’s first instruction, they then parted their ways to prepare the first lesson on Monday. A paradoxical feeling of excitement burnt within his chest, he could not wait to teach the students and the most important thing was to see Nam’s reaction the moment he entered her class as a teacher.
Notes:
Yeah I realized this chapter is way longer than the previous ones because I have the feeling that for the next few days I'll be busy on several things...I'm afraid if it'll hamper to get updated. So here, enjoy the interaction between Kongpob and Arthit~!

Chapter Text
Arthit’s class would come to an end in seven minutes but when his eyes observed the situation of his class, his students were still writing down Arthit’s explanation on the board. Even though they just entered the second week of school, but the fact they enrolled in one of the excellent high schools in Bangkok still remained. In other words, the students were demanded to study more in order to have good performance in academics which would be useful later for the college entrance exam.
“Remember class, next week you’ll have a quiz. There are only three questions, so please have a review in your house about what we’ve studied until now,” Arthit said as he put the marker back and tidy up his things. However, before he would leave the class, he wanted to ask one thing from his class.
“What subject you’re going to study after this?”
“It’s English, Mr. Arthit,” this was perfect timing for him to help introducing Kongpob as the temporary teacher assistant even if he had to be late for the next class.
“You can keep continuing to write your notes while I talk,” he has to give a reminder to his students so they could keep working on. Arthit understood very well that physics was never easy to begin with, even himself as a teacher admitted that fact.
“This morning, I just meet the new pre-service teacher who’ll be subsisting Ms. Pun for this semester. He’s a good teacher, so I hope all of you can give a warm welcome to him when he enters the class, okay?” the news from the physics teacher made most of the students to be surprised and temporarily stop taking notes just for talking to their chair mate; including Nam.
“Say Jane, isn’t this a good news for us that Ms. Pun won’t teach us for one semester? I can’t imagine myself if I’ll be in her class.”
“Wait Nam, listen to me. I actually saw the new teachers this morning.”
“Really?” Jane nodded her head.
“But the thing is…I think I saw your uncle with Mr. Arthit,” when Jane told that fact to Nam with a serious tone, Nam only responded it with laughter, not taking her words seriously.
“There’s no way…even if it’s true, he will let me know about it for sure,” the class all of sudden became quiet as a certain tall man entered the classroom and stood beside his temporary teacher assistant. Kongpob smiled to the homeroom teacher of class 2-B before he averted his gaze to the entire class, he made eye contact with several students who sat in the front row. The next thing he knew, his eyes finally met with Nam’s widened eyes whom probably the most shocked student in this school with Kongpob’s sudden appearance.
“His name is Kongpob Suthiluck, he’ll be the one to teach English subject for this semester. Hopefully you can get along with him.”
Arthit faced Kongpob and whispered something to him, “I’ll leave the class in your hands.”
A curt nod was sent at the direction of physics teacher. Arthit could rest assured to continue to the next class when he tried to look into Kongpob’s eyes; determination was present. Hopefully, Kongpob could keep up his performance until the very end.
Courtyard, Lunchtime
“Really you’re the worst to not let me know. I was so shocked back then you know that!” a heavy sigh drifted from her tiny lips after she showed how disappointed she was after knowing her uncle to keep this fact as a secret just because he wanted to cause a mini heart attack on Nam.
“You can take part in this game, if you want Nam,” Kongpob challenged his niece so it would be fun, at least that’s what he thought.
“Gonna pass for now. I have to focus on my studies from now on, Mr. Arthit will be always the ruthless teacher when it comes quiz and stuff,” now that she mentioned it, she wanted just to have her holidays back.
“Oh? Is he really that ruthless?”
“Yeah, he IS. When I was a freshman, there are only two students who barely passed from his midterm test. Physics has become the most difficult subject to me from junior high school, but after I meet him, I never know the difficulty can still be increased than I imagined,” Nam could feel a light pat on her shoulder and even without turning her head to see the person was, she knew Kongpob was the one who did it.
“Looking at the bright side, he’s a teacher who’s kind-hearted. It’s hard to find a teacher like him these days,” Nam could sense this conversation would last longer than they imagined, so she suggested to go to the canteen to buy lunch and came back to the bench on the courtyard.
Nearest Bus Stop, 04.03 PM
Kongpob was the latest person to go home after his friends since he needed to have a light conversation with his cousin until her mother fetch her with a car. Actually, Kongpob got an offer from his older sister to get into the car, but he politely rejected her kindness and he just wanted to be his first day to use the public transportation, without any specific reason. But his decision actually brought him for a good result; a chance to be with Arthit. Kongpob never thought that Arthit has been using a bus to reach the school after all these times and knowing these little facts of Arthit were making him be happy. But this wasn’t enough for Kongpob. He needed to know other facts of Arthit, so he should start making some conversation as much as possible.
“Waiting for the bus too, Mr. Arthit?” Arthit immediately turned his head when his name was called. At first, he thought it was a student who called him but actually it was a teacher just like him.
“Oh? We should have gone together if I had known this.” Kongpob chuckled at the astonishment on his face.
“It’s fine. There’ll be always next time,” a faint smile was given by the physics teacher. It wasn’t like Arthit did not want to talk to him or such, but he just kinda has some difficulties to start a conversation with someone he barely knew. As people started to gathering since it was peak time and the silence still accompanied them, Kongpob took a step to stand beside Arthit and silently stole glances of him.
“So…do you always use public transportation wherever you go?” Kongpob broke the silence by starting a conversation with his temporary teacher assistant.
“It depends, but yeah I usually use public transportation. It’s much convenient compared to the past, don’t you think?” Kongpob unfortunately could not answer that question. Basically, he was a part of the Suthiluck family which has a lot of assets across the capital city but the Suthiluck family never tried to brag of how wealthy they were to people whom they met; including Kongpob. He just wanted to act like a down-to-earth person in front of his acquaintances.
“I’m not sure…? I usually don’t ride any public transportations before.”
“Seriously? Don’t tell me this is your first time to ride one.” Arthit was eyeing on the other male warily. Kongpob could not help but pull out a chortle to see his reaction, he was getting used to with this kind of response whenever he told this truth.
“You’d have been right if you know me back when I was a freshman.” Their conversation has to be stopped for a while since their bus has arrived and then they got into it. Afterward, they sat on the first vacant seats they saw and this time it was Arthit who struck up a conversation with the other male.
“Do you live around here, Mr. Kongpob?” Kongpob crossed his arms over his chest, thinking for the answer.
“Not exactly, I guess. It’s because I’m assigned to Ivy High School so I have to find a place that’s around here.”
“But I forgot the name…wait let me just show you the picture. I saved it to send to my parents,” Kongpob unlocked his phone and scrolled up his chat with his mother, when he saw the picture, he tapped the screen in instant. “Right now, I live in this condo.”
Arthit could not control his reaction, his mouth dropped open in surprise the moment his eyes captured a certain photo that was really familiar in his eyes.
“You’re not joking, are you? This is where I live too!” Just from taking the same bus with Arthit now, he learned more about him, but he did not expect that he actually lived in the same place as him.
This was a pure coincidence.
Kongpob shook his head several times, geez could this coincidence still appear after one another? Speaking of which, he got a brilliant idea from this opportunity. Hopefully, Arthit would not reject his wish.
“Well…can I join you to go back to the condo together from now on?” Arthit wanted to laugh on his silly question, but he just shook it off by exhaling a deep breath and pushed his glasses using his index finger.
“Mr. Kongpob, this is public transportation. You don’t even need my permission you know that,” Kongpob was confused of Arthit’s answer, it was either could be as a ‘yes’ answer allowing him to join him after school or something else. But before he tried to elaborate his question, Arthit cut him off first. “It’s nice having someone to accompany along the way. I get bored sometimes with this routine.”
Kongpob did not immediately say another word, but instead, he had a look of Arthit’s face. His face did not show any sign of him feeling annoyed by his presence. It only made him feel butterflies swirling in his stomach and his lips tugged upward into a bright smile.
“I can fetch you in the morning too if you want. I only have to go downstairs for once.”
More like, it was the one Arthit needed rather than he wanted that. There were times when he woke up late and as the result, he came late to school, obviously this would happen when exams were near since he has to stay up late to make the questions and answer keys.
Basically, Arthit was not a morning person, to begin with.
“I don’t mind. My room is 602, just knock my door or if I don’t show up just call me.”
“Well…” Kongpob scratched his cheek using his own finger, “I still don’t have your number. How can I make a call?”
Kongpob got his point. They should exchange their contacts since they would be in touch until Ms. Pun recovered from her fever, but if Kongpob still contacted him then it was fine. Arthit would always welcome his presence. So, he unlocked his phone and handed it over to the younger male.
“Type your id LINE in here and message yourself so you can add me back,” Kongpob nodded his head when he got instructed by Arthit, his fingers were busied typing certain words forming as his id LINE and tapped to add him as a friend. He also sent a message to himself, as a result, he could feel vibration in his pocket showing that the message already delivered. By the time Kongpob returned Arthit’s phone after he had done adding himself to Arthit’s contact, they have arrived at their destination. People got off from the bus including the two teachers, they only had to walk for a while to get to the condo.
None of them said a word until they stood in front of the elevator, waiting for the elevator to open. However, Kongpob did not take it as an awkward silence between them, he calmly enjoyed the silent company. Maybe it was because he was with Arthit? He really wanted to get closed to him from that day.
“The elevator is here,” Arthit said which successfully snapping Kongpob dived into his deep thoughts. Arthit then pressed the buttons for them, he knew that Kongpob lived on the seventh floor from the conversation he had earlier.
“If you need anything, just let me know. Don’t be hesitate just because I’m your temporary teacher assistant, you got that?” Arthit looked straight into his eyes, he really meant it with his words. He knew very well what it felt like for a pre-service teacher had to teach, there were several cases that he never encountered before in the classrooms. Thus, that was what teacher assistant role for. The elevator then stopped and slowly opened, his gaze shifted onto the particular number to see if he arrived at the right floor. The sixth floor, yeah that was one. Arthit then came out from the elevator and then turned around his body to see him until the very end.
“I’ll go ahead first then…see you tomorrow, Mr. Kongpob.” Arthit said with a tiny smile.
“Thank you, Mr. Arthit. See you tomorrow too.” As soon as the elevator doors closed, Arthit slowly walked to his room.
On the way to his room, memories and certain parts of his earlier conversation flashed in Arthit’s mind. He just realized that both of them did not talk about something that was related to their status as a teacher. People usually prefer to talk about something they like, right? For Arthit’s case, having a conversation that has a relation to education and teaching was one of his favorite topics since he has a great passion in teaching. But now, even without having a conversation related to both topics, he actually felt comfortable enough. If Arthit has to be honest, he was not closed with other teachers since they were way older than him which made him having difficulties in engaging with them. But still, Arthit had a good relationship with them as a mere colleague, scratch that, Earth was exceptional. He could be friends with her since they had something in common, but they only interacted in school and through social media, when it was necessary.
Arthit turned on the lights once he was already inside of his room, he unbuttoned his collared shirt and took out his shoes off. He let out a breath on a sigh while ran a hand through his own hair and the other hand took out pink milk from the refrigerator. It would be always his habit to take a sip whenever he felt tired.
❛I should hit the books since next week is quiz time.❜
Kongpob’s room, 05.40 PM
“Yes, I’m doing just fine Mae, the teachers and students are nice.” Kongpob was telling about his first day as a teacher for a half-hour, it was his mother who called him first. He also talked about Arthit for being his temporary teacher assistant and all the coincidences that happened today, his mother even laughed with her youngest son’s story.
“It would be nice if he isn’t just for temporary, he seemed like a kind-hearted teacher.”
Even though they weren’t doing a video call, but Kongpob smiled as if his mother could look at his expression.
“You should take some rest more. Good luck with school, Kong.”
“Take care, Mae.” Kongpob felt lucky to have someone to talk to about what does his day was like, his family has been his number one support system. Despite there were certain hurdles along the way, it still did not tear his family apart.
Just like those days where Kongpob, finally, confessed to his parents that he wanted to have his own choices for living his life. Being the youngest son in a family was also hard, so if there were people who might think being the youngest son was nice, then they were wrong. After all these times, his parents always involved in Kongpob’s decision, for example, they stated their expectation that Kongpob should enroll in Economics. Kongpob did follow his parents’ wish, but as time flew by, he could not take this.
Kongpob did not feel happiness or a sense of belonging to this major. After he gave it a thought for several times, he chose to transfer into a major that he loved. Even though he had to sacrifice one year, his efforts actually were paid off in the end. In addition, his parents finally learned to respect their youngest’s son decision so that was why Kongpob still had a good relationship with them. Yet, he also had to be realistic since he bears the name Suthiluck, so he should be like his older sisters; engage in the business world. That was why, he was the owner of Little Fella, after his older sister could not handle it anymore. Kongpob would come to his café as long as he was in his free time.
During those times, that was also the moment Kongpob met his teacher assistant there. But they never had a conversation together, let alone know each other’s names. He could only stare at Arthit from the distance who always came alone, ordered red velvet, sat on the same table and set his attention to a certain cat. That was his basic reason why deep down in his heart, he wanted to get know about Arthit; his loyal customer. But well, let’s just enjoy the pace so Kongpob could ask him about Arthit’s routine in his café at the right time.
Kongpob still had six months to go and he would definitely make use of his time as a teacher in a finest high school to the fullest.
***
Kongpob did not expect that actually Friday has come, he should be happy that tomorrow was Saturday which means he could take a rest in his condo. But for Kongpob, it meant that his actual teacher assistant would be back to his school starting from Monday. He has received this news from Arthit.
“Such a shame she’ll be back again.” M’s first comment when Kongpob told about the news. They were having a break at this moment in the pre-service teacher room.
“Mr. Arthit is really a nice guy, even though he’s just a temporary, but he really does his best to help me out. I don’t feel any gap between him, unlike Ms. Pun.”
“Well, you can still talk to him. Besides, you guys live in the same building, you shouldn’t be really this sad,” M tried to cheer his friend up. Kongpob rested his shoulder on the chair and looked around, he just noticed that Tew was not here.
“Where’s Tew anyway?”
“Oh, he goes to the bathroom. He’ll be back in any minutes,” M said before he took a spoon of his lunch. Kongpob had finished his lunch so he did not have anything to do other than waiting for the bell rang, but what he got instead an announcement from a speaker.
Good afternoon everybody. We would like to announce that all teachers will hold a meeting and so all students are allowed to go to their houses earlier. Thank you for your attention.
M stopped eating his lunch when he heard an announcement when it was finished, he stared back at his friend.
“We should go to home, right?” Kongpob nodded his head, they were not obliged to attend the meeting since they were here as a pre-service teacher. All they had to do was waiting for Tew to return and pack their stuff. However, he just remembered that he usually went to his condo together with Arthit. He could not just leave the school without asking to Arthit beforehand.
“I have to see Mr. Arthit first.” M frowned to see Kongpob’s sudden decision out of nowhere.
A few seconds later, they heard someone was coming inside to the room. It was probably Tew, they thought.
“You’re here finally, come on pack your things here.” But there was no response. Both of them turned their head to see who was the person and it was not Tew, but it was Arthit. Kongpob immediately rose from his chair and approached his temporary teacher assistant.
“Oh Mr. Arthit! Why do you come here? Do you need anything from me?”
“I came here just to tell you that you don’t have to wait for me, I don’t know when it’ll be finished actually.” Even before Kongpob stepped out from the room, he already got the answer he needed from Arthit right away. There was no need for him to argue with Arthit, he did understand very well that Arthit has to standby in the teacher office. Realizing the fact that Arthit came along the way just to inform Kongpob instead of contacting him through LINE, it actually made Kongpob smile.
“It’s okay Mr. Arthit, then I’ll go ahead with my friends,” Arthit nodded his head and then left the room since there was nothing he needed to talk about. After Arthit’s disappearance, finally, the one who showed up in the room was Tew. In the end, before they finally headed to their own places, they crashed to a certain coffee shop just for sharing their experiences in class.
Kongpob’s Room, 06.45 PM
Kongpob has finished taking a shower, more like, he just arrived at his room forty minutes ago. Never thought that it would take much time until he arrived at his room late, but still, it was worth in the end. Not only he could share what he has experienced with his parents but also with his friends. Even after they parted their ways, they were still talking in a group. There must be plenty of unread messages since he left it to take a shower, so he grabbed his phone to see the notification.
Much to surprise, Kongpob got two unread messages from Arthit. Instead of reading the group chat, he read his message first.
LINE
Arthit: Mr. Kongpob
: Are you free this night?
Kongpob: Yes I’m free. What’s the matter, Mr. Arthit?
As soon as Kongpob replied to him, his messages were already read by Arthit.
Arthit: Great. There’s something I want to talk about
: We can have dinner together, is noodles good for you?
Kongpob: No problem. I can eat everything
: Well except spicy
Arthit: Ok. I’ll send the location, meet me there
The location was not really that far from his place, Kongpob could reach there on foot. As he was getting to prepare, his mind could not stop thinking about what might cause Arthit to invite him for dinner? Was there something important they have to discuss? Kongpob knew that he would never get the answer if he just remained in the room and pondered by himself, so he headed toward the destination to meet Arthit on there.
Notes:
Gosh sorry for the late update, midterm is getting near so yeah there are so many things I have to do ;-;
I just realized that there's no moment of Arthit being a tsun when he's flirted by Kong in this chapter, so let's have some in the future (or next chap? dunno :p)
Chapter 5: Withitness

Chapter Text
Arthit has arrived at the restaurant earlier than Kongpob, he should be the one who reached here first because he was the one who invited him to dinner. He made a mental note to himself that Kongpob could not have spicy food, so he tried to avoid ordering a dish that was spicy for Kongpob.
“I’ll have two chicken noodles and two ice tea.” Arthit then paid to the cashier before he searched for a table. He was waiting for Kongpob’s arrival while he played his phone, there was no reply from Kongpob after he sent the location. Maybe Kongpob was already on his way, Arthit thought. Fortunately, Kongpob did not take much time to arrive at the restaurant, it was that near so that was why he could go there by foot.
“Have you waited for too long Mr. Arthit?”
“Not really, have a seat here,” Kongpob then took a seat across him.
“So…what exactly do you want to discuss?” Arthit shoved back his handphone before he got into his main point.
“I met Ms. Pun at the meeting and also we have discussed several things in the meeting, it’s also related to you too.” Kongpob was paying more attention when he knew that today’s teacher meeting topic has a relation to him. Did he make a mistake?
“Maybe you still don’t know about this, Ms. Pun is the faculty advisor for our school’s debating team. Recently we got the news that the team will go to international competition and it’s very important for our school. The competition will be held at the end of this year and she asked me for help that if I can be your teacher assistant until the end.” Their conversation must be stopped for a while since Arthit’s order has arrived. Kongpob could not help but feel distracted with two dishes and two drinks.
“You eat all of these?” Arthit shook his head and chuckled. “It’s for you, you haven’t ordered, right? Just eat this up.”
Kongpob then took the chopsticks and stirred his noodles, he was doing this until Kongpob’s curiosity got the better of him and mentioned about Arthit’s answer.
Please make it Arthit to say yes.
“What’s your answer?” Arthit refrained from what he was doing then stared at Kongpob’s face. “I’m willing to be his teacher assistant. That’s what I told to Ms. Pun.”
"Being a teacher assistant isn't that hard. In our school, we define the role as I'm just your support. Of course, I won't be present when you teach a class. But I'll help you with your lesson preparation despite our subject is different. But the most important thing is when you recognize issues students are facing, we have to collaborate to think about the solutions. That's all."
Kongpob could feel that his burden has been lifted up knowing that Pun was no longer his teacher assistant and he felt glad the teacher in front of him replaced her to be Kongpob’s teacher assistant for this semester. He even did not realize that he flashed a smile toward Arthit.
“Why are you smiling? Do you really want me to be your teacher assistant that much?” Arthit mocked softly at Kongpob before he took a sip of his drink. But he has not realized about the fact that his question was actually like digging his own grave.
“I really do, Mr. Arthit. I want to get know you better, it makes me happy to know all of the little things about you,” Arthit could feel an intense gaze on him, and the moment he made eye contact with Kongpob; that adrenaline rush he felt on the day where Kongpob asked about his relationship was present.
“It’s amusing to know that you prefer to meet me for letting me know about this matter and earlier in the school you did the same. You even bothered yourself to show up instead of making a call to me…do you really want to see me that much, Mr. Arthit?”
“No I don’t!” Arthit quickly tried to defend himself when Kongpob got the wrong idea. “You see, I was walking past your room this afternoon so instead of typing a message to you, it’s more efficient to talk to you.”
Kongpob could not help but to raise his eyebrows when Arthit revealed his reason. “That’s pretty interesting…so you were thinking about me? I wonder if I’m not only invading your mind but also your heart too?”
“Kongpob!” for the very first time, Arthit did not address the other male with any honorifics due to embarrassment that was caused by Kongpob. Arthit’s cheeks were decorated by red hue and it all thanks to Kongpob’s endless teasing.
“Just eat your noodles now. It’s getting cold,” it was really obvious in Kongpob’s eyes that Arthit tried to change the subject. When Arthit showed this kind of sight to him, he honestly thought Arthit was being adorable.
“My bad, I can’t control myself to not teasing you. You are really cute when you’re embarrassed, Mr. Arthit,” a sharp gaze was thrown by Arthit still with his warm cheeks.
“Just. Eat. Your. Noodles. Now.”
While they were having dinner together, they talked about various topics such as Kongpob’s experience as a pre-service teacher, Arthit’s experience as a homeroom teacher and et cetera. It has been always fun to know someone’s feelings especially when we can relate it to their feelings, that was what Arthit believed and he became a good listener to Kongpob. Kongpob also did the same thing as Arthit, even though he was inexperienced compared to Arthit, but he could actually make Arthit shared about his stories. They spent for almost ninety minutes in the restaurant and since it was getting late, they decided to call it a night. Kongpob went to the cashier because he wanted to pay his dinner, but he was being stopped by Arthit.
“What are you doing? I’ve already paid before.”
“Oh? Then I should pay to you.” Kongpob opened his wallet and he was about to hand his money when Kongpob touched his hand, trying to make an attempt to cancel Kongpob’s action.
“There’s no need. Just let me pay for this one, okay?” Arthit pulled out his hand slowly and continued to walk to leave the restaurant. Kongpob had a glance toward him, witnessing Arthit’s generosity made him bit his lower lips and eventually, it tugged upwards; forming a sincere smile.
“Coming Mr. Arthit!”

The weather was getting colder these days, Arthit could feel from a cold breeze hit him as he was walking down the street to the nearest bus stop. There were no people other than them to wait for the bus arrived, they just stood there and waited for the bus arrival patiently.
“Ugh why it’s so cold…” Arthit was certain that he has lowered the pitch of his voice, but somehow Kongpob could catch what he has just said. The younger male offered a cup of hot espresso.
“You can drink mine. It’s still warm.” Arthit glanced over the cup, he could not tell what was the inside of it since it was not transparent.
Hopefully, it was not a coffee.
“Thank you,” Arthit mumbled and accepted his offering. He took a sip from the cup and he was surprised to taste bitterness from it, he was almost to cough but he successfully held it. But everything was all written on Arthit’s face, Kongpob felt bad that he was not aware of Arthit’s caffeine tolerance.
“I’m so sorry Mr. Arthit, would you want some water?”
“N, no it’s fine…I just drink a small amount of your espresso, I’ll be fine,” Arthit showed a thin smile so he wouldn’t cause Kongpob to be more worried about him.
“Anyway…how can you drink a bitter beverage like that early in the morning? Why don’t you just drink milk instead?” Kongpob’s gaze was locked on Arthit’s face while he took a sip of his espresso again. “I just like to drink coffee, but not every day. I only drink coffee when I feel like it.”
Arthit still could not understand people who can drink coffee early in the morning although he has several friends who often started their day with a coffee. Regardless of their reason was, he still could not bear the bitterness.
Their bus has finally arrived, they got into the bus and had a seat. Kongpob placed the cup on his thighs and spoke to Arthit once again until they have reached at Ivy High School.
Class 2-B, 09.40 AM
Arthit has already called all the presidents to inform their quiz was postponed until next Monday since he has to teach a certain material for their meeting. And here he was, standing in front of the class to teach the material that was included in the quiz. Indeed, his concertation was all set onto the book which he currently held, but as a teacher he also had to develop his withitness; being aware of what was going on in his class. Therefore, his eyes caught a certain female student who did not pay attention to his class. Arthit remained silent and walked to where that female student sat, but she noticed something was wrong because the class became silent and she could feel her classmates’ eyes were set on her. So, she tried to hide ‘something’ in her desk.
“Were you paying attention to my class, Jane?” his student hesitated to answer Arthit’s question, she kept silent and tried to not look back to his face. Several seconds had passed but Arthit could not get an answer from her.
“I’ll let you go if you can explain what I’ve been teaching.” Arthit gave a chance to Jane for letting this incident go. However, she could not make use of this opportunity to show that she was listening to his class. “I…I’m sorry Mr. Arthit, I didn’t pay attention to your class.”
Arthit had to be honest that he appreciated his student to confess that, but still, a consequence still a consequence. He extended out his hand to take that something away.
“Please hand me over your book.” She was surprised to hear instruction from Arthit even though she actually had to see this coming. There was no use to have an argument in this kind of state, so she could not help but to hand over the book.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff in Love
That was the name of book when Arthit had a glance on the cover.
“Mr. Arthit.” Arthit’s gaze now was shifted to the one who recently called his name; it was Nam. The entire class set their attention to those three people.
“She doesn’t break your rules. Why are you taking away her book?” thanks to her, all of the class started to discuss whether or not Arthit was wrong and actually did not follow his own rules. Arthit heaved a sigh as he pushed his glasses back before giving an answer.
“Yes, I realized that too but I believe my students already understand the importance of respecting someone’s time. You’re all grown up, so you should know these little things.” All of sudden the bell rang; it was the time that he has to end the class. Such a shame that his remaining time was all used for this thing, he thought. Arthit then walked to his desk and gathered his stuff because of the earlier event, there was none of them dared to talk; until Arthit broke the silence.
“It’s good to see student performance in academics really well, but for me, it’s much better when they also have good manners. Don’t forget to study for quiz and have a good day,” with his last utterance, he left his class with a cold shoulder.
Arthit was walking along the corridor when he spotted the pre-service English teacher who recently finished his class, Kongpob with a bright smile on his face then approached his teacher assistant. However, there were two things that caught his attention; Arthit’s face showing vexation and a book about love. After giving a thought to whether or not it was the appropriate time to tease the older teacher, in the end, Kongpob chose to not cross over the line.
“Is there something wrong today, Mr. Arthit?” a tender voice was heard by Arthit, making him not knitting his eyebrows together and to control his emotions.
“Nothing. Just a small matter.” Arthit was a horrible liar. If there was someone walking past Arthit, at first glance they could tell Arthit was in a bad mood. So instead of letting Arthit go to the teacher office, he made sure that Arthit visited the canteen first. Once they arrived, Kongpob then bought a bar of chocolate and handed it over to Arthit.
“Chocolate can enlighten your mood, just take this as returning your kindness on noodles shop,” Kongpob said with a smile. Well, Arthit could not refuse the chocolate because Kongpob has bought it just for him. “Thanks.”
Since it was already lunchtime, the students were starting to gather in the canteen. On a time where Arthit needed some time to be alone and his preference to not be in a crowded place, he then left Kongpob behind without saying any word to him. Kongpob just let him be, his eyes were directed to watch the older teacher’s back until it has vanished from his sight. It was hard for him when he failed to make someone open up about their problems, but there was no use if Kongpob nagged Arthit until he confessed about his problems. Soon, he would find a way to make Arthit talk about his problems.
Arthit’s Room, 07.15 PM
It’s not Arthit’s refrigerator if pink milk is not found in it. Arthit occasionally drinks his favorite drink these days, sweet drinks are like his stress reliever. That is why there’s pink milk on his left side.
“Where’s the book that I just bought…” he muttered to himself as he was busy finding the book on his desk, which was a messy one. Whenever quiz and exam were near, Arthit’s desk would be always covered by a lot of books. That was exactly it took him like forever to find a book in this messy desk.
“Found it!” a relief was felt by Arthit when he found the book. But the next thing he knew, his elbow hit his favorite pink milk and was about to spill onto the books which were near with his drink. Arthit’s reflexes were shown by saving his works and precious books, that was close one; until he noticed his drink spilled Jane’s book.
“Crap…” Arthit placed his books on the edge of his bed and he picked up the book to know how bad it was. “Ugh…this can’t be read again.”
Arthit knew he had to be responsible for his own clumsiness and he would be labeled as a jerk if he returned the book without getting a new one. He then tried to open the book, his eyes scanned the pages that were stained by his drink, but there were several pages that successfully draw his attention. There were little notes made by Jane, when he tried to read it, he could tell that it was about her relationship with his boyfriend. There were other pages that contained Jane’s note, but still, it was privacy especially Arthit read it without asking Jane’s permission.
Arthit then cleaned up the table and the floor using a cloth, he has thrown away his pink milk beforehand. Just when Arthit has cleaned up the mess, he remembered his conversation with Kongpob afterschool. Kongpob asked him about the location of a bookstore that was being recommended by Arthit, but since he needed to replace Jane’s book with a new one, he should go there with Kongpob too.
Arthit then started to message Kongpob.
LINE
Arthit: I forgot to give you the address
: But I can actually accompany you to go there
: There’s something I wanna buy
Kongpob: That’ll be helpful
: Then, how about Saturday at 10 am?
Damn that was early, according to Arthit’s dictionary.
Arthit: Uh yeah…I’m cool
Kongpob: Okay Mr. Arthit…good luck making the quiz :)
After Kongpob replied Arthit’s message, it was not being read by him again. Seemed like he was busy preparing for the quiz, he could tell Arthit was a hardworking person whenever it was related to his job.
“Now I feel pity for Nam,” he chuckled as he reminisced his niece’s story about Arthit being known as a killer teacher when it was related to examination and quiz. But still, Kongpob thought it was for the students’ good sake even if the questions were like a hell.

Kongpob’s Room, 10.00 PM
Kongpob was about to put his handphone on a table until his cousin's name appeared on his screen; speak of the devil.
“Why she calls me this late night?” he pondered for a second until he swiped the green icon to make a call with Nam.
“Hello Uncle Kong, are you still up?”
“Yeah, what’s up for calling me this late night? And didn’t I tell you on the last time we met to call me with P’Kongpob as long as we’re outside of the school? I’m not really that old,” a low chuckle left the teacher’s lips when he could hear Nam’s little ‘Ah right!’ on the other end.
“Well I was wondering…” silence stroke them the moment Nam hung up her mid-sentence. Despite Nam’s presence was not in his room, he could sense that there was something troubling her mind at this moment. But he would not dare to push Nam to speak about her problem until he could hear it from her very own lips.
“It’s a long story and I don’t think it can be finished in one hour, so can I ask you to meet up for tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow?” Kongpob repeated her request just to make sure if he did not hear it wrong.
“Yes, maybe like after school? Or it’s up to you, P’Kongpob.”
“I’m okay. I’m actually going to check out the café too, meet me there on six.” A relief sigh was exhaled by Nam as soon as Kongpob did not turn down her request.
“Thanks P’! Then, I will end the call here, you should be sleeping at this hour.”
“Isn’t that supposed to be my line? You should look after your health Nam.”
“I will I will, geez you sounded like a big brother instead of my uncle. I will end it right here okay?”
“Very well. Good night Nam.”
Nam eventually ended the phone call after she has made a promise to Kongpob. Even though she has not talked to her about her problem, but she felt the tightness in her chest was lifted up as soon as her usual good-listener uncle willingly to spare his time for her.
“I know it’s risky but I can’t think of the best person to talk about this matter.”
Afterschool, 03.50 PM
Going to his condo together with Kongpob has become Arthit’s daily routine and neither of them had left each other’s behind except on a day the school held an urgent meeting. As for the meeting point, it would be between near with teacher office or the pre-service teacher room. In the end, it all depended on the first person who finished earlier to fetch the other.
“Going home already, Mr. Arthit?” Arthit recognized that voice even though he was gathering his stuff and shove it into his bag.
“Of course, Ms. Earth. My friend is probably waiting for me outside.” Earth lifted an eyebrow with the way Arthit addressed Kongpob as his friend. She did know Arthit was not being strict of seniority, but she did not know Arthit was on the point in which he called a pre-service teacher as his friend.
“Ah so you’re getting along with Nong Kongpob now? He does look like a fine teacher to me.”
Arthit smiled slightly toward Earth who admitted Kongpob’s friendly personality.
See? Everyone liked Kongpob.
“I’m going ahead first then,” he wai-ed to Earth and left the office to meet Kongpob. Once he stepped outside from the office, there was no sign of Kongpob. Strange, usually he always arrived first and waited for Arthit; not that he was mind.
Arthit just had to wait for the younger teacher in his room then.
Ten minutes had passed but Kongpob still did not come. Arthit started to care for his whereabouts, he had checked his phone a few minutes ago but there was no message from Kongpob.
“Should I check him? There’s nobody inside too…” he muttered to himself and unlocked his phone to message him. Arthit was already typing few words forming as one message, simply asking where was Kongpob now. But then, he heard someone’s steps from the steps and it sounded like approaching to Arthit’s direction instead of taking a turn to the opposite. As soon as he turned his head, he could see Kongpob was finally here, but he seemed genuinely concerned.
“Sorry Mr. Arthit, have you been here for a long time?”
“No, it’s okay. It’s not like I have something urgent to do after school.”
“Then, I’ll get my things in the office. I’d make it quick,” Kongpob then entered the room without waiting for Arthit’s further response, he really did not want to make Arthit wait for him despite no errands await him. And Kongpob really marked his words, he has already locked the room with a key since he was the last person to go home among M and Tew. Kongpob then walked ahead first and asked Arthit to walk beside him.
“Let’s go home, Mr. Arthit.”
They barely talked along the way to their usual bus stop. It was not like Arthit did not care about the other male’s unusual lateness, he just thought what matters to him was being side by side with Kongpob.
“You aren’t going to ask about the reason why I’m late?” Kongpob stroke a conversation between them. “Come on, just like a strict teacher who yells at a student who loves being late. I bet you’ve done it before.”
Arthit lifted an eyebrow knowing Kongpob seemed…waiting to get a scold from him? Is he nuts?
“Oh, you must have hit your head into a thick object until you’re waiting for me to scold at you.”
“Aw Mr. Arthit, don’t take it literally, I just teased you earlier,” Kongpob gave an impish grin toward the older and getting a heavy sigh from him as a return. However, it did not take much time for the grin to vanish from his face as soon as Kongpob continued to their original talk.
“You know, something happened in my class and it is pretty interesting.”
“Interesting? Something good happened?” Kongpob shook his head.
“The opposite, I actually caught a female student wasn’t paying attention to my class. She was working on her assignment…and it’s related to your subject too.” Kongpob looked at sideways, his eyes searching for the bus which has not come yet. “Do you want to know the next part?”
***
25 minutes ago, in Kongpob’s Class
The entire of class was dismissed as soon as they have heard the sound of a bell rang throughout the corridor. A couple of students gathered together as they made their way to go home and some of them wai-ed to Kongpob who still remained in his seat. Indeed, there was no way he would stay in the class for no reason. His gaze was fixated on a certain female student who seemed nervous and refused to look back at Kongpob.
“Excuse me, can I have a word with you?” her chest was tightening the moment Kongpob asked her to stay. She gathered her courage and turned around, she had to prepare for seeing the disappointment in Kongpob’s face. However, the reality said otherwise with her imagination. Never in her mind that the teacher actually handed out her physics book.
“Oh you don’t need to be scared, I just want to return this to the rightful owner,” his wide smile expanded slightly when he noticed his student’s darkening mien. Even her gaze revealing a sort of nervous tension.
“I’m sorry, I just think that you’ll scold at me for sure…” the female student then took her book back from Kongpob.
“Why do you think of me like that? Do I look that kind of guy?” he could not help but to chuckle at the student’s guess. It was not absurd to him, it was just that he found it funny to know other people misunderstood of him.
“N, no sir. It’s just…how to put it into words,” she seemed to have difficulties in conveying her opinion of Kongpob. “You do look like a kind teacher, but there are some teachers who take away their student’s book as a punishment.”
“Then, I’m excluded from that description,” Kongpob crossed his hands over his chest to give his reason of earlier action. “I know this is so important to you since next week there’s a quiz from Mr. Arthit. Even if there’s no quiz, I will still return it to you. But it’s a different case if you do it more than twice in my class. Please do well in your quiz.”
***
Arthit has remained silent and focused to listen to Kongpob’s story. Each of them usually exchanged their stories of what they experienced in the classroom, but Kongpob always did the talk and Arthit listened to his story. Even if it was about a trivial matter, Arthit still paid attention to the younger male.
“Can I ask you something?” Kongpob asked Arthit as soon as he had nothing left to tell. Arthit nodded his head slightly and waited for his question.
“Would you do the same if you were in my position?”
“I don’t.” It was a simple answer with a simple reason. Arthit recently experienced this on yesterday even though he has not breathed a word regarding this matter to Kongpob, he was just simply not in the mood to tell about it yet.
“Whatever the reason she has, the fact that she doesn’t pay to your class still remains. These days, people can be smart until they can make it into the special program but one thing that they tend to forget is manners. Isn’t it simple just to sit and listen to the teacher?”
Whether it was the nature of Kongpob to counter someone’s statement, he then threw another query to Arthit, successfully making him snap out from Kongpob’s reply.
“Isn’t it simple to try to understand other people more? I can see students nowadays are more pressured just because they have to keep up with others. Every single day, they usually get at least one assignment from their teacher. Don’t you think they still deserve to get toleration from us?”
There was no immediate answer from Arthit, he did not try to defend his belief but instead, he tried to understand a brand-new insight coming from Kongpob. Was he actually the wrong one to take away Jane’s book? However, Kongpob decided to change the topic and in the end, they could get rid of the uneasiness between them.
“Let’s end our talk here, I just want to know your perspective since you’re like a role model to me…at the school.” Kongpob grinned sheepishly and scratched his cheek using his index finger.
Afterward, they did talk with another topic and none of them brought that topic ever again. Yet, Arthit still clearly remembered what Kongpob has argued to him, his mind hovered somewhere between Kongpob’s reply and the recent event in 2-B.
“It’s sixth floor, Mr. Arthit,” his gaze shifted from his shoes to the hallway. Arthit stepped outside and waited for the elevator to close again. “See you tomorrow then, Mr. Kongpob.”
A smile grew on Kongpob’s face knowing that Arthit did not forget about their plan on going to the bookstore together, “Okay then!” Arthit stood still until Kongpob was no longer seen from his view.

Little Fella, 06.00 PM
Ever since Kongpob was in high school, his friends usually came to him whenever there were something bothering them. Basically, Kongpob was like everyone’s good listener and he never look to someone’s status or gender before he could accept them as his friends. Whenever someone needed his aid, he gladly to help them out be it a small or big scale of the problem. Kongpob would make sure to help other people and that was why he met Nam at the café. Just as he expected, Nam already sat on a certain table with iced matcha. She has been a punctual person up until now.
“Are you eager to meet me or the cats until you arrived earlier than me?” Kongpob purposefully asked his niece to grab her attention, after all, she was busy taking photos of the cats using her phone. “Oh P’, can I have one of them? They’re really cute!”
“No way,” Kongpob immediately rejected Nam’s request if it was related to these fluffy cats. Not because they were merely his assets, it was just he had genuine love toward cats. With the arrival of café owner on Friday night, the employees greeted Kongpob and he simply smiled at his workers.
“It must be something serious until you invite me to meet here, is it about your grades? Friends? Or…you’ve finally found someone who you fall for?”
“I’d definitely talk to my friend if it’s about the last thing you think of,” Nam took a sip of her iced matcha while her uncle took a seat in front of him. Even though she ordered her favorite drink, the uneasiness she had felt ever since yesterday was not ceased a single bit.
“You’re under Mr. Arthit’s care, aren’t you?” Kongpob blinked his eyes when he heard his teacher assistant coming from Nam. “Yes, Ms. Pun is no longer my teacher assistant. What do you want to know?”
“I want to know more about him.”
Several seconds had passed yet there were no words coming out from the owner café’s lips, he felt surprised to receive this kind of favor from a student; especially from Nam.
“S, so…you like him?” Meanwhile, Nam was dumbfounded to see Kongpob got the completely wrong idea of her question. Maybe it was not Kongpob’s entire fault to misunderstand her, so she had to go straight into her point before Kongpob thought another false assumption.
“It’s not like that. I just want to know about his feelings after I make him feel annoyed in his class, I can’t just go to the office and ask about it. I should really be more careful like he said.” Her story seemed fit to the reason behind why Arthit acted differently since he met Arthit on the corridor yesterday and gave him a chocolate. The puzzles started to fit, he thought.
“What did you do to him?” Kongpob needed the complete story so he could grasp the context of she was talking about, not because for the sake of his own curiosity. After all, a third person like him should not interfere with someone’s privacy; if it was possible.
“I just had an argument with him that he took away Jane’s book which is not in his class rules. I find it is not making sense, but the next thing he said to me, no, to the whole class made me realize that he is mad. Mr. Arthit did not raise his voice, but the way he picked the words to convey his opinion about my argument really shows that he’s angry at me. It’s rare to see him like that.” Kongpob nodded his head in understanding despite Nam’s story was not detailed but due to the time, he spent together with Arthit outside of the school enabled him to understand.
“I can’t say much about his feelings since I only know him for two weeks, but I don’t think he’s totally angry at you.” Kongpob dipped a fry into a small carton of mayonnaise and ate it. “I sometimes see him acting the opposite of what he said, he doesn’t mean his words completely to be in that way. Even if you ask him directly, he won’t answer your question and instead, he tries to dodge your question. Mr. Arthit will be fine, trust me.”
Nam looked up to his face and there she spotted his usual wide smile, her uncle has been always like this. Whenever she was feeling down, his facial expression as if telling her not to dwell in her problem anymore. Moreover, what Kongpob has said to her was always true, so that was why Nam could believe in him.
“You look like being close friends with him to me, the way you describe his feelings by trying to view from his perspective is really impressive.”
“I’m telling you, he’s not that hard to be friends with. I always had fun talking to Mr. Arthit…but I won’t tell you the details.” Nam tilted her head to the side in confusion. “Why so, P’?”
Most of the moments he had fun with Arthit were the ones when Arthit failed to keep his composure around Kongpob. Oh, it was not because he was together with Kongpob, but because Kongpob often teased the other male until he sometimes dropped the honorifics.
The corners of his mouth shifted up and forming a visible smirk while certain memories flashed through his mind.
“It’s a secret.”

Chapter Text
Another day with the same daily routine with the same person; getting on a bus with Arthit. But what made it different compared to other days, they did not have to go to school. It was Saturday, people from Ivy School could spend the day by taking a break from their school activities, well not all of them could do it for this weekend. The reason? Have a look at the person who sat next to Kongpob.
Arthit was every second-year students’ cause for intruding their peaceful weekend.
And look at him, himself was currently on his way to the bookstore with a bus. He has pretty much time to spare for willingly accompany Kongpob bought some books.
“Here we are,” Arthit said as the bus has arrived after passing three bus stops. Kongpob followed him from behind since he did not know exactly where the bookstore was. He sometimes looked to his surroundings, he wanted to make sure if he actually recognized the place. But Kongpob was too busy looking around until he accidentally bumped into Arthit’s back, he did not realize the person right in front of him suddenly stopped walking.
“This is the bookstore I’m talking about,” Kongpob’s gaze finally shifted toward the bookstore. It was pretty enormous but not the same with his expectation and there were not many customers inside, maybe it was because they arrived way early than people usually came. Kongpob preferred this way, so he could have a little more concentration the moment he had to buy some books.
“Oh right, I remembered that you also want to buy a book. What is it?” Kongpob just realized of the other male never said about the title book that he wanted to buy until this moment. Now he got curious.
Arthit then glanced at the younger, trying to keep his composure as normal as possible, “It’s for physics. What else am I going to buy? A guide on maintaining a relationship?”
Soft laughter escaped from Kongpob’s thin lips upon Arthit’s joke, perhaps he was mocking him for asking an obvious question.
“You’re a quite funny one, Mr. Arthit.” Kongpob stopped walking as soon as they reached English material books section, he then suggested to split up and meet again on the entrance. Arthit agreed with his idea, this would be more efficient and convenient for them to find the book. He then continued to walk, but he was leaving from high school books section and headed toward self-improvement books section.
“I swear if he catches me, I’m totally doomed,” he muttered to himself as he was busied searching for a certain book. Actually, Kongpob has already witnessed one of Arthit’s embarrassing moments on the day where Kongpob returned his glasses. But that did not mean he was fine about the scenario if Kongpob ran onto him on the cashier and busted him for buying this so-called physics book.
“I found it.” Arthit then grabbed a book with pink cover and immediately went to the cashier. An obstacle finally appeared, there were three people standing in the line for paying their books. But Arthit could not do anything about it other than standing in the line.
“Thank you, next please.” As the third person had left the cashier, Arthit then placed the book on the counter. The woman took his book for scanning its barcode, but several attempts had done but the scanner could not detect its barcode.
“Excuse me sir, there’s a little trouble with scanning the barcode. I would check this book first.” The woman then left the cashier as soon as she informed about the technical error to Arthit. He was getting nervous that his finish line has to be postponed. Of all things, why it has to happen right now? He was this so close to not getting caught by Kongpob.
Three minutes had already passed, but the employee has not appeared yet.
“Why is it taking so long?” but then he tried to calm himself. Being swallowed up by fear all the time was not good for his mind too, so he took a deep breath and stayed positive, “Oh well, at least he’s not here.”
Unfortunately, it did not stay for more than ten seconds.
“Thank you for showing me the way,” a very familiar voice was heard behind him. Oh fuck, it could not be…
“Oh hey Mr. Arthit, you were waiting in the line too?” Kongpob’s question and his entire presence were being ignored since Arthit did not turn his head or even glance at him. He silently wished just want this day to be ended quickly because he already pictured Kongpob’s another episode of endless teasing. On the other hand, Kongpob then realized a particular book which was carried by the employee who had accompanied him and she was also the cashier. He did see the book and did not have any idea who has bought that book; but not anymore.
“That’ll be 210 baht sir.” Arthit handed the money and murmured to the cashier, “Keep the change.”
Arthit took the book with him and when he was about to leave the cashier, he just stopped and stared at Kongpob.
“I’ll be waiting at the enteran-“
“Wait for a minute, Mr. Arthit,” Arthit let out a heavy sigh knowing what would be the next line. He then turned around and stared at the younger male, waiting for Kongpob to continue.
“Is that book really needed in physics class?” with the lamest lie Arthit could think of within less five seconds, he then responded to his question.
“You see, in a sense talking about gravity, we’re all attracted to each other. So this is necessary.”
Kongpob’s lips tugged upward and lifted his eyebrows with that excuse, “Oh, so you’re saying that I’m cute?”
“Kongpob!” Arthit’s voice was loud enough until some of the customers set their eyes on them, wondering why all of sudden a male yelled in the bookstore. At the same time, it was Kongpob’s turn to pay his books. Arthit knew that he could not get away from this, so he decided to crash on a certain place to tell the whole story on Thursday to Kongpob.
“Let’s meet up at the entrance and have lunch,” Arthit said before he left Kongpob behind.
KFC, 12.38 PM
True. It was Arthit who picked the place even though a bunch of people filled the restaurant, not that he was mind with crowded place; well as long as he could have some favorite drumsticks. Kongpob was up for any restaurants, so if a fast-food restaurant like KFC was chosen in the end, he was fine with it.
“Where should we sit?” Kongpob asked as he carried a tray of their foods and Arthit held their drinks. Arthit silently looking for vacant seats but turned out Kongpob actually the one who managed to save some seats. Arthit placed two bottles of mineral water and have a seat across him.
They began to eat their lunch while Kongpob also busied talking about the books he found in the bookstore. He felt satisfied with Arthit’s excellent choice of bookstore since he could find everything that he needed for his class. But along the way he talked to Arthit, he noticed the other male seemed like there was something in his mind. Arthit was being unresponsive than the usual and his eyes would not meet Kongpob’s eyes.
“Mr. Arthit,” Kongpob was not sure whether he has the right to make Arthit tell about his problem. Surely, he did notice the sudden change in the last two days, but he did not want to annoy Arthit when he was in a bad mood. But seeing someone in pain and him being unable to help, was far suffocating than Kongpob ever imagined.
“You’ve been quiet lately, is there something bothering you?”
“Aren’t you going to ask why I bought that book?” instead of getting an answer, Kongpob got another question as a return. When Kongpob wanted to reply to his question, he continued to talk.
“I lied at you okay? I just don’t want other people to find out this ridiculous thing but somehow my plan got ruined in the end. You saw it and I don’t want you to misunderstand me.”
For that reason, Arthit told the whole story of what happened in class 2-B until the moment he stained Jane’s book because of his clumsiness. He also explained what did he do when he caught Jane reading a book and told his response to Nam’s argument. Every single detail that has slipped from Arthit was perfectly the same as Nam, but one thing was missing from Arthit’s story.
Arthit has not told from his perspective, what he actually felt when he faced it.
“There you go. The complete story is ended here.” Arthit felt relieved that he could clear up the wrong assumptions which formed in Kongpob’s mind, there was nothing left he could talk about so he drank a bottle of mineral water.
“Strange, your story still didn’t answer my question.” Arthit could not help but to furrow his eyebrows and looked at him.
“What do you mean?”
Kongpob stared into his eyes and brought himself closer as he expressed how worried he was toward Arthit, “Mr. Arthit, we’ve been together since my first day in school. There’s no way I can’t tell what’s wrong with you lately and if you’re down just because of your earlier answer...I know you’re still hiding something from me.”
Arthit fell into silence the moment Kongpob cornered him to this extent. But that’s not all that makes him be silent. The concern that he had seen which reflected in Kongpob’s eyes became his main reason to be silent. Arthit started to doubt his decision of trying not to open up to someone else, but then he remembered again of the reason why he should not bottle up his emotions. How could he forget that one? It was such a valuable lesson from one of his dearest people and Arthit admitted it was really hard to actualize what he has learned from the past into a reality, like now.
“To be honest, I’ve been always aiming for the best and I do realize if I want it for the best then I have to work hard for it. But, am I being selfish for setting what’s the best for them? What if I’m actually forcing my standards to them? I didn’t realize that until you said it right into my face.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to worsen your mood,” Kongpob’s facial expression showed that he harbored regret. Arthit’s first reaction was not blaming or even scolding at him, but it was a smile.
“It’s because of your answer, now I get reminded of my actual wish at the beginning of semester. I want to get close with my students in 2-B, but I’m still struggling since I’m not used to approaching people first and such. So…I want to thank you, for reminding me.”
Kongpob was about to say something but he got a signal from Arthit that actually he has not finished yet, an index finger was raised as Arthit had his last bite.
“But I’m doing just fine now, you don’t need to be worried. I just need some time, that’s all,” silence accompanied them despite the story has already ended from several seconds ago. Arthit took it as Kongpob tried to process all of the stories he had told and what he could only do right now was waiting for Kongpob’s answer. He then set his eyes to his surroundings, observing other people enjoying their lunch.
“If…” Arthit averted his gaze toward Kongpob who finally spoke. He paid close attention to only Kongpob since he wondered what would he respond. Arthit wanted to know what kind of result that he got the moment he tried to open up to new people.
“If you’re having trouble in approaching people first, then you can come at me. I know I’m still inexperienced teacher compared to you, but I want to help you.” It was like the tables had turned. Arthit never thought that Kongpob was actually lending him a hand and he believed in his story. He had been scared to think about other people’s reactions whenever he tried to open up. He did not want to be dissatisfied with the response, like getting Ah you’re just overthinking. It’s not a big deal.
Arthit heaved a sigh in content, feeling grateful that his decision was not wrong.
“Uhmm, will do Mr. Kongpob,” he said as nodding his head several times. Arthit then realized there was nothing left to talk about so he said to Kongpob that he wanted to wash his hands. But the younger male did not allow him to leave, not now.
“Wait for a moment, if you really have a big willing to approach people first, then you should get rid of the wall between us.”
Arthit knitted his eyebrows after hearing Kongpob’s utterance, “What wall?”
“We can drop the formalities when we’re outside of the school, you can call me by name and I will call you P’Arthit. Sounds great isn’t?” it still did not make sense to Arthit. Were there any huge differences with that simple thing?
“Is it really matter to you?” Kongpob nodded his head in affirmative. The reason might vary, it was depended on each person’s interpretation. But for Kongpob, here is his answer.
“When you try to approach people first and you act casual around them, they will feel that they already gain trust from you. And that trust is important before you can get closed with other people, that goes the same to me. I would be very happy if I can see you act casual around me, P’Arthit.”
There was no immediate answer from Arthit, he felt like his heart was fluttering to be told these kinds of things from someone. He quickly rose from his seat and excused himself to the bathroom, leaving the younger male behind.
“Hey, he has not told his answer to my idea yet,” Kongpob shook his head as a grin decorated his face, watching his teacher assistant walked to the bathroom from his seat.
Bathroom, 02.20 PM
Even though Arthit was currently washing his hands, his mind could not stop thinking about Kongpob’s idea. He previously had agreed to his idea about trying to approach him first so he could get used to approaching people first, he did not want to be seen as an awkward person. But if that is the case, does that mean Kongpob would be the first person to witness Arthit’s efforts and struggles in approaching people?
“I don’t have any choices, do I?” he muttered to himself. There were no other people who fitted like Kongpob, Arthit only has several closed-friends back from university and none of them could help him out to approach people first in practical. Arthit turned off the sink and dried his hands with a tissue. He froze at the current position as he grabbed his phone and unlocked his phone, there were not any new notifications. But that was not Arthit looking for.
Arthit tapped the LINE application and directly visited Kongpob’s home profile, he could see that this so-called formality was attached to his name. He had given it a thought to his idea and also to his determination in getting close to his students in 2-B, he then made a change of Kongpob’s name.
‘Kongpob :)’
Arthit had a look at Kongpob’s profile name after he renamed it, a warm smile crept to his face; he unconsciously just smiled.
KFC, 03.00 PM
Even after both of them had finished their lunch from a long time ago, their conversation still continued. One thing that was different from their previous talk, they exchanged personal information. At first, Kongpob tried to ask Arthit’s age since he looked quite young and he still had no idea of how old Arthit was. It was pretty unusual to meet a young teacher like Arthit.
“You’re not 30 yet? Are you serious?” Kongpob asked in surprise.
“Told you I’m the youngest teacher here,” Arthit could see the other male nodding his head, it was a sign that he really did believe in Arthit.
“Aren’t you supposed to be 23 now? Or were you late entering the school for one year?” it was Arthit’s turn to ask back.
“I’m a former Economics student, but I transferred to my current major because I learned that it’s not my way to study economics.” In other words, Kongpob had learned a valuable lesson in a certain year. Realizing that fact made Arthit think of something similar in his past, there were a lot of life lessons he could take in those years. However, before Arthit got himself reminiscing of his past, he noticed a small difference in Kongpob’s face
“Why are you smiling?”
Kongpob looked up and murmuring a low ‘ah’ when his teacher assistant caught him unconsciously smiling.
“It’s just…I thought it’s nice to learn something about you.”
This was not his first time to hear such confession coming from Kongpob. Previously, Arthit heard him loud and clear saying that he wanted to get close to Arthit without giving a specific reason. Sadly, Arthit lost the opportunity to ask the reason since Kongpob’s friends appeared. But this time was different, there would not be any nuisances ruining his opportunity. Arthit should not let this opportunity in vain.
“Kongpob.” The one who was being called widened his eyes. Kongpob has not heard him agreeing of the idea on dropping the formalities once they were outside of the school, but hearing his name was being called by Arthit would only have one meaning.
“Yes, P’Arthit?”
“When we met on the first day of school, you said to me that you want to know more about me. Is there any particular reason?” Kongpob shifted his gaze to his sideways, avoiding eye contact for a moment. He realized that when he made obvious moves it could raise Arthit’s suspicion, but he did not expect that Arthit would ask about this matter right now, of all places. Kongpob slightly clenched his fists at his sides, uncertainty enveloped his heart to strike this matter.
“Well actually…” Kongpob looked back at Arthit, but he did not continue his utterance since he could see a tall male with slanted eyes approached Arthit from his back and clung his arm around Arthit.
“Who is—what Bright? What are you doing here?” Arthit was dumbfounded to meet his university friend in this place, but his face did not look happy.
“Arthit my dearest friend, please help me out. I really need your money or else I’ll be doomed!” Bright pleaded to his friend, he knew that Arthit could be depended on.
“But how do you know I’m here?” Bright rolled his eyes, oh come on he did not have time for this.
“From your Instagram story, oh Arthit just move your ass now! My life is really on the line, we can talk more later,” Bright noticed of the other male’s presence and stared at him. “I’m gonna borrow him until who-the-fuck-knows-when-it’s-finished. Let’s go Arthit!” Bright, who was running out of time, he dragged his friend to his next destination and leaving Kongpob behind in the KFC all alone.
Kongpob could say that was an absurd thing that happened today even though it all happened in a brief moment. But thanks to that, he was saved for today.
“P’Bright, you have my thanks.” Kongpob let out a sigh in relief and he rose from his seat as he made his way to exit from the restaurant. He could predict that Arthit would be taking a long time because he had an important matter to take off, but he thought it would be rude of him if he went straight to his condo. Thus, he decided to wait for the next thirty minutes by taking a stroll around the place.
Notes:
