Chapter 24: Bling-Bang-Bang-Born

Notes:

Hello all! I'm happy to say, we have arrived to the sports festival! I decided to take a different approach when writing this one, and I really hope you all like it and that it all makes sense lol.

I know it took a while (we all expect this at this point) I've actually just started reading Harry Potter fics! I got curious and decided "Fuk It" and now I'm deep in this hole and ship Drarry very hard and I haven't even watched the movies or read the books, a crime, I know. Don't worry, my friends have already taken it upon themselves to make me watch the movies. I think it's a little funny though, I've never read/watched Harry Potter(fuk that basilisk scared me as a kid and the books were huge and made me ignore it hard) yet I basically know the basics of what happens because there's a point where story directions repeat so much in a fic u realize what's real and what's not lmao. Also, I'd like to say, Fuk JK and her crude ass opinions.
.
.
.
Ahem, So, It's a short chapter but without further a due, Chapter 24!

This chapter is named after Bling-Bang-Bang-Born by Creepy Nuts I thought this song was a perfect upbeat mood needed for this chapter. Plus, the lyrics are kinda perfect lmao.

Aizawa, Ace and Izuku Scars Art

Chapter Text

“Ladies and gentlemen and all in between! Welcome to  Yuuei High School’s Sports Festival! As always, we start our three-day event off with the first year students! Tomorrow, May 7th will be our second years and finally our third years will be having their final sports festival ever on the 8th! Make sure you tune in on all three days and support our wonderful students, as they are all destined for great things! I’m your host, Present Mic, and today I have two guest hosts! Why don’t you two introduce yourselves to our viewers at home?”

“Eraserhead. I was forced to be here.” Aizawa grumbled into the mic attached to his headset. His eyes focused out the window in front of him as he watched his coworkers double-check all the equipment one last time. He'd much rather be down there doing that than announce, but due to his injuries he was required to take it easy.

“And I'm Grim! I'm actually very excited to be here! I've always wanted to be up here! I’ve always wanted to help out with announcements during the sports festival!” Grim states with a large grin. Pain shot through his body as he grinned and pulled on the still healing skin on his cheek.

“That's the spirit, Grim! See Eraserhead? Why can't you be as enthusiastic as him?” Present Mics voice echoed through the waiting room from the TV as class 1-A prepared to walk out in front of the crowd . The screen panned to show the crowd outside the stadium as people bought snacks and official merchandise from sponsoring companies, as well as inside as people got to their seats and the teachers prepared everything.

“Mr. Hazashi is always so excited when he's announcing.” Jirou said with a soft smile as she stared up at the TV.

“I agree. It's endearing to know he is just as excitable in person.” Yayorozu replies with her own smile. Her fingers fidgeting with the sleeve of her gym clothes.

“I’m gonna kick ass and take names. Today is my day, I will destroy everyone who gets in my way.” Uraraka mumbled softly to herself as she glared at the TV.

“Uraraka has been pretty scary lately…” Sero says cautiously as he watches her with a soft chuckle. He was pretty sure her glare would set the poor TV on fire if it could.

Everyone’s attention snapped to the door when Izuku and Nito walked into the waiting room after having been taken to a meeting for all class presidents and vice presidents. Both boys looked exhausted already, despite the small smile Izuku gave his classmates.

“Alright everyone. Time to get up, we gotta line up by the entrance to the field.” Izuku announced to his class. He watched as everyone stood from their seats, some trembling with excitement or even nerves. Izuku tilted his head slightly in confusion when Todoroki walked up to him, “Ah, Todoroki what-”

“Despite how similar our quirks are, I think I’m still objectively stronger than you.” Todoroki cuts Izuku off, the class pauses to stare, “Not to mention, it’s quite clear that All Might is interested in you. I’m not here to pry about that, but I will say that I will beat you.”

Izuku blinked in surprise at Todoroki’s declaration. From his peripheral vision, the teen could see all of his friends start walking towards them cautiously. Nito even shifted a little closer to Izuku. After what had happened at the USJ, they had become quite cautious and protective of one another.

Once he had registered what his classmate had told him, Izuku’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Todoroki with determination, “Todoroki, I understand you got into the hero course quite easily, but that doesn’t mean you’re the strongest in the class. I don’t understand why you decided to make a declaration like that to me simply because our quirks are similar, but I'm not going to just take it. We’re all here to stand out and make it to the top. I’m not going to lose to you.”

After a few moments of the two boys practically glaring at one another, Izuku suddenly clapped his hands together, causing everyone to jolt in surprise. Izuku’s lips curved into a large grin, “Alright guys! Time to head out! Let’s go!” With those words, Izuku pivoted on his feet and walked out of the waiting room.

“We are glad to present to you our lovely first year students! Starting with our hero course, we present to you class 1-A and class 1-B!” Midnight’s voice echoed through the arena as both hero classes entered the field, standing side by side in two lines. The woman could feel the cheers of the crowd practically rattle her ribs. Excitement filling her own body, the energy always feeling overwhelming and contagious.

“And there they are! Our first year hero class!” Present Mic announced into the microphone, “Our class 1-A had gone through such a horrible experience not long ago, do either of you two have any words on that?”

“Well Mic, I’d like to say that it sucked, so much. Those poor kids are barely in their first year, and they already had to deal with something they were not ready for. I gotta say, though, they’re strong-willed as heck since they are still here!” Ace comments with a smile

Eraserhead grunts in agreement to Ace’s words, “It just goes to show how dedicated they are in becoming heroes.”

“That’s right! It makes me excited to see what our lovely class 1-B has in store! After all, they are also a bunch of talented kids in the hero course!” Mic says excitedly before continuing with commenting on every course that appears. Glancing down at the notes he had made all through out, as his coworkers added comments here and there.

Once she received the all clear through her earbud she continued on to present the general education class, “Our next course is the general education classes; Class C, Class D and class E!” She waited a moment as the classes walked out in three lines, led by their class presidents and vice presidents. Once she received the clear once again, she called out for the next class. She continued with this process until all the classes were called and lined up before where she stood on a podium.

Raising her Saffron flogger, Midnight brought it down with a swift motion, “Welcome everyone to this year’s sport’s festival! This year, our first years will be participating in their very first sports festival…” The heroine smoothly ignored the wolf whistles thrown her way as she continued to make the introductory speech. Her voice was powerful and confident as she spoke every word, a smile on her face as she looked down at the students.

Once she finished, she gave the audience a moment to cheer and yell. After counting down from ten, she continued speaking, “Now, for the first year’s student pledge, we have Alterion!”

“Alterion had gotten the highest amount of points this year during the entrance exam, with an amazing 84 points and a shocking 100% on the written exam! It’s no wonder he is the student representative for the first years!” Present Mic’s voice echoed through everyone’s TV.

Inko could feel pride fill her soul at the hero’s words. She smiled proudly as she leaned against her husband, who held her close. Hizashi held his phone in his hand as he recorded the TV as their son walked up to the podium to stand beside Midnight.

The camera focused on Izuku in a medium closeup, their son obviously looked nervous, but she could still see a fire in his eyes. Inko felt her husband’s arm tighten around her slightly, “Hero, Support, General Education or even Business. Whatever your major, we're all gathered here together to participate in this year’s sports festival. I know expectations are high, but we're just kids and this is our first year, we should be having fun today. Let's do our best and go plus ultra!"

“Oh!! My baby!!” Inko burst into tears as cheering came from the TV.

“And there you have it, ladies, gentlemen and other! What an amazing speech! I hope everyone at home was as moved as we were!” Mic’s voice echoed through the TV.

Hizashi burst into laughter when he saw Izuku stumble off of the last step, “Ha! I got that on camera!!”

“What do you think the first game is gonna be guys?” Grim asked as Midnight presented the large screen for everyone.

“Well, who knows! Maybe a game of chase? Like flag football or something? Oh, oh, last year there was a giant makeshift game of musical chairs and basically everyone had -” Present Mic cut himself off when the words ‘Obstacle Race’ appeared on the screen behind Midnight, “It’s an obstacle race!”

“An obstacle course…” Nito mumbled to himself, eyes focused on Midnight as she began to explain the game. Everyone around him leaned forward slightly to listen to the woman carefully. Soon, everyone found themselves walking towards the entrance that led out of the stadium.

“The randomizer is a lie. This is all rigged.” Uraraka grumbles as they walk towards the entrance.

“I wouldn’t be surprised, Kero.” Tsu replied, “It’s not like they could make up the rules and set up an obstacle course in mere minutes.”

Shinso sighs as he rubs an eye with his palm, “Rigged or not, we gotta make it through. The first two rounds are elimination rounds, so we gotta stay in at least the top 20 or something just to be safe.”

“Alright everyone! On my mark!” Midnight’s voice echoed through the stadium, “Get set!” She paused for a moment. Her eyes focused on the light on top of the tunnel entrance, a grin painting her lips, “Go!”

“And they’re off!” Present Mics voice boomed through Sokka’s Ipad as it sat propped up against the potted cactus he and Suki had gotten on the opening day of their dojo and placed on the desk. Sokka himself leaned forward as he watched the students start racing through the tunnel leading to the track.

“What do you two think? What should we all look out for in the early stages of the race?” Mic asked his two friends with a grin.

“The entrance! Duh!” Grim replies with a grin, Eraserhead’s exasperated sigh passing through the mic.

“It’s the first obstacle to see how they could maneuver through the crowd.” Eraserhead adds, his eyes on the screen. His eyes narrow as he watches frost quickly consume the other side of the entrance before ice quickly replaces it.

“Oh!! It looks like Shoto is the first one out of the tunnel, leaving everyone behind in a cold shock!” Mic’s announcement makes Eraserhead’s eyebrow twitch in annoyance that Todoroki refused to use a different name that wasn’t his own. He simply sat at his desk stubbornly still after having been told to think of something else.

“Not everyone, looks like some students were able to avoid it!” Grim says as he watches his screen intently.

Just as quickly as the ice appeared, it melted into a large puddle that was flung at some of the 1-A kids that got free, the largest splash of water hit Todoroki making him stumble and look back in surprise. All the student’s that were stuck didn’t waste any time in rushing forward with their newfound freedom, “What’s this!? Everyone is free!?” Mic shouted in surprise, while Grim had to mute himself at how hard he was laughing.

“It looks like Shoto didn’t take into account the other student’s quirks.” Eraserhead states, amusement shining in his eyes.

“It looks like Alteron and Phantom Thief are shooting forward on a moving slab of dirt?! And what’s this?! They have people tagging along for a ride!”

“This is pretty awesome!” Hitoshi shouted to be heard over the wind hitting his face as he held onto Izuku’s shoulders. The ground under them moved like a wave, pushing them forward.

“The coolest!” Uraraka shouted back from where she hung off Nito’s back like a koala.

“We’re already near Bakugou and Todoroki, Kero.” Tsu croaked from where she crouched between Nito and Izuku, one of her hands holding onto both their legs. Nito himself held onto Izuku’s wrist as they shot forward.

“Target acquired.'' The group watched as large robots appeared out of the blue and aimed to attack Todoroki and Bakugou.

Bakugo didn’t stop, instead, he threw himself into the air with the aid of his explosions before landing on the head and running off at the other end without having to destroy the robot. He used the momentum of his fall to reach further ahead and used his explosions to make sure he landed on his feet.

Todoroki, however, had skied to a stop to allow ice and frost to build up on the surrounding ground. With a swing of his arm, the ice shot forward and froze another robot. Once it was frozen, he rushed forward quickly to not fall behind.

“It looks like Explosion and Shoto are making the gap between them and the other students even wider!!” Mic shouts

“What they did just now was both combative and defensive.” Eraserhead states as he watches the two robots the boys had attacked tip forward, “It was a smart move and keeps other students occupied as they widen the gap.”

“Amazing!!” Mic shouts

“Looks like that gaggle of student’s that were on their tail have opted on simply dodging.” Grim says, “While other student’s behind them are trying to follow along or take down robots. They better be careful, cause fighting off the robots might lead to them falling behind.”

Inko leaned forward in her seat as she watched the TV screen and listened to the teachers commentate. Her eyes focused on her son and his friends as they zigzagged through the group of robots. The camera wasn’t focused on them and continued to either switch from close up shots of other students or birds eye view but every time it did she could always spot her son.

“Yes!!” She shouted in encouragement as she watched her son and Monoma raise the earth under a robot that was mid-step and going straight to them, making it topple over and giving them room to finally pass the stage. Her husband grinning widely next to her as he watched his son and his friends make their journey up a rather steep hill the course had.

“Looks like Izuku and his friends decided to go on foot at this point.” Hizashi points out as the group they were keeping an eye on had finally stopped using the ground for transportation and began a light jog,

“For those who haven’t noticed,” Mic’s voice boomed through TV speakers. The screen showing Shoto and Bakugou as their quick running pace had come to a slow jog up the hill before changing to show other student’s jogging, “This hill here is, in fact, one of our obstacles!”

“Quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, glutes, and hip flexors . Running uphill is testing not just our students' endurance but their lower body strength as well.” Eraserhead informed the audience.

“Recovery girl is not going to be happy with the amount of student’s she’ll be seeing soon.” Grim says with a soft amused huff as a small handful of kids limped forward or stopped to grab their calf.

“Oh, you have got to be kidding me…” Uraraka groaned as she and others who had caught up all came to a stop at the top of the hill. She leaned forward to rest her palms on her knees as she tried to catch her breath, the track ahead of them was covered in mud and water, with 3 foot tall mud walls.

“At least it’s not robots!!” A random student grinned as they trudged forward. Other students murmured in agreement and made their way forward.

Bakugo flexed his hands in annoyance as he tried to estimate how long the mud track was. Wanting to conserve energy for the next two rounds, he reluctantly trudged forward at a quickened pace. To give himself an advantage, he used his quirk to skip a few mud walls ahead of the crowd. A grunt of annoyance escaped his lips as mud splattered all over his PE uniform hands and face when he landed in a crouch.

Todoroki grit his teeth as ice surrounded his foot and the mud around it causing it to get stuck. Around him, other students ran past him as he tugged on his stuck foot, making him growl. With a hard pull, his foot was finally free, and he ran forward with no other choice than to get through the obstacle  the old-fashioned way.

“You know, I don’t really mind this…” Tsu croaks as she jumps onto the last wall. She reached over and took Uraraka’s slippery hand in hers and helped her climb up the wall before helping Jirou and Hagakure.

“And I need a shower but I don’t think we’ll really get a break after this round.” Jirou says as her jacks flick around in irritation to get rid of some mud.

“This is so unsanitary!” The girls turned around to see Iida try to wipe the mud off his engines in irritation with his equally muddy hands before huffing in annoyance and running for the next obstacle without his quirk.

“Looks like our two first place runners have fallen behind, and we have new leaders!” Mic announced as one of his general education students was able to get through the muddy path faster than the rest of the students with the help of his quirk.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself now, Mic! The next obstacle is coming up!” Ace grins as he watches the kids come to a stop with wide eyes upon seeing the road ended with a cliff. The only way across was rope that was attached to both ends along with bars, ring and wheel grips above the rope. If they were to look down the cliff’s ledge, they would see a large net ready to catch them and quite a few teachers on standby.

“You're right! Here, dear viewers, is the drop! Our dear students have to make their way across to the other side, which will be difficult considering all the mud on their hands and shoes, making them prone to slipping!” Mic commentates as they watch the gaggle of kids start making their way across.

A small handful of students removed their shoes and even whipped their hands with their socks or shirts that were hidden by their jacket, others using their sock as gloves to grip with their hands better, “This is also a good time for students to show off their creative thinking skills.” Eraserhead notes.

“Those kids sure can get creative.” Katara hummed to herself as she set down a tray of fruits on the open bar of her home. Glancing over at the screen in the living room displaying the sports festival. She smiled at her children as they shouted upon seeing one of the students fly over the whole course with what seemed like jet boots. Her eyes drifted to her husband as he and his grandfather spoke in soft tones to one another on the other couch.

A loud pop caused one of the cameras to pan quickly to show a cloud of glitter and dust, “Oh! Would you look at that! It looks like someone has arrived to the mines!” Mic shouted, laughter in his voice, Ace’s laughing voice could be heard in the background.

“What the fuck?!” A general ed student shouted in horrified shock as the dust settled and they found themselves covered in glitter. Other students all around shouted in annoyance upon finding glitter all over their already dirty clothing.

“Mother fucker!” Katsuki shouted as he coughed as the dust slowly settled. Looking down at his clothes, he felt ready to kill whoever the fucker that designed this course was. He’s going to be finding glitter for the next forever, and the damn mud somehow got under his P.E. joggers. Once the dust settled, he looked around the field, he could see small bumps on the ground. With an annoyed grumble, he ran for it, avoiding all the bumps with nimble feet.

Other students around him stumbled everytime the little bombs exploded with a loud pop causing them to fall behind and Katsuki to reach first place. He grinned to himself when he realized he was that far ahead.

Hearing a pop behind him he looked back to see Todoroki carelessly running twords him, uncaring of all the glitter bombs he was steping on and activating. Katsuki  didn’t fear many things, but a person that doesn’t care about covering themselves in so much glitter? That scares him a little. Does the guy not care about randomly finding glitter in his fucking hair even after he showered properly? Jesus.

“I love chaos but this… this is heinous.” Grim mumbled as he watched Todoroki activate every glitter bomb he steped on with a straight face. That kid is gonna be finding glitter on all his belongings even after he graduates.

“Those bombs are supposed to be avoided, not activated…” Present Mic says with a strained smile of worry for the student’s willingness to run through so much glitter.

“You two should pay more attention.” Eraserhead says with a tired sigh as he watched other students catching up to Shoto and Bakugo.

Mic glanced at his friend at his words before looking back down at the screens, just as they changed perspective. He grinned, “It looks like my co announcer is right!”

“Wow! Look at them go ‘raser! Your kids are crazy!” Grim shouted as he reached behind Mic to nudge Eraserhead. On the screens they watched as Monoma’s feet were covered in rocks as he used them to rush forward without activating the bombs. Tsu was next to him leaping forwards and nimbling avoiding the bombs. Uraraka seemed like she was flying forward after a good push from Izuku who was simply running and avoiding every obstacle.

“Not just them but theres more people catching up pretty quick!” Mic says with a grin as he watched the camera feed as they changed to different students. The screen quickly switched to the finish line. Zooming further in it focused on the students running for the exit of the obstacle course back into the stadium. Inko grabbed her husband’s hand as they listened to Present Mic excitedly shout and narrate with Grim.

“It looks like Shoto is going to be our winner!!” Mic shouts as the students near the finish line, “Wait a minute! What’s that? A MISSILE?! NO!! IT’S URAVITY!! URAVITY CAME OUT OF NOWHERE SOARING LIKE A ROCKET!!”

Notes:

HHHH what did you guys think? Like it? Hate it? Confused? Oh boy I hope not. When I was trying to write this chapter I had paused and thought to myself, "Wait, why can the students hear Present Mic if he's commentating?" Cause, like, personally, I've been to several sports games, WWE, Boxing and other events and you can't hear the commentators when you're there, you know? Because of this, I decided to take a completely different approach to how I wrote the chapter.

Hey, do any of you remember me saying I was going to be applying into art school? Well, I got in!! I'm so happy?! Like, ya'll, I'm 27 and at this point I thought I wouldn't be able to accomplish my dream of becoming a character designer/storyboard artist. I saw that applications were open by pure coincidence and thought "fuck it" and applied with a few hours to spare from the deadline. I didn't think I'd get in with how last minute I had applied but I got in to both schools I applied too! (Otis College of art and design and California College Of Arts) Honestly I started to cry when I got the email as well as the letters. Can you believe it? I rly thought it was too late for me and that I wouldn't amount to anything anymore and I got in! Tuition is still expensive even with Financial Aid so I started a GoFundMe, of which I will not share here (as tempting as it is) because I'm pretty sure stuff like that is against AO3 policies.

Anyway, I'm so excited and I need to meet with a counselor to discuss everything. I'm trying to take this as an opportunity to finally move out, even if it were in dorms for a while. It's rly hard because my mom wants me home since the school isn't too far but commuting from school, to work to home and so on just sounds exhausting? You know? As it is, it's already looking like I'll only be home for a few hours a night to sleep because I'll be a full time student and worker. The school I'm leaning towards (Otis) has apartments right across the street and it would be more convenient to do that or stay in dorms, that way I don't have to worry about traffic omw to school. Aaahhhh it's all so complex rn cause my parents just don't want to hear it and my mom keeps trying to guilt trip me into staying home forever, you know?

Shoot, I'm sorry for ranting. I just, needed to let it out, you know? Anyway, Until next chapter everyone~! Go outside! Touch the sky, eat the green, pet the air, follow your dreams!!
