Work Text:
Kai found it strange.
Strange how easily Ikki, Meelo, and Jinora bantered.
How Pema and Tenzin laughed around one another.
How they worked together so well.
How they were happy.
He never had that.
His parents abandoned him.
Kai didn’t have siblings.
At least, he doesn’t think.
He doesn’t know about his history.
His culture.
His bloodline.
Kai was completely alone.
And then Jinora comes along and gives him the one thing he’s wanted his whole life.
A family.
And Kai looks at the bundled little girl in his arms.
His daughter, Naya.
Kai doesn’t even know her favorite color, her favorite food.
Hell, she hasn’t even existed for a whole 2 months yet.
But Kai already loves her so much, it’s terrifying.
But Kai won’t let her go.
He’s going to love her and make sure she never gets hurt.
Not when he can help it.
“I love you, Naya,” Kai whispers softly.
And Naya offers a big gummy smile in return.
