“Papa, can we take her home, please?”
“Yes, please? Please?”
“We’ll take good care of her.”
Jon Snow must have known there is something more than the kids wanting a morning stroll at the park before the egg hunting when they woke him and Dany up very early that morning. Their three little wolves (or dragons as Dany kept on insisting) raced to their bedroom before sunrise, urging their parents to get out of bed because it’s Easter and they had to find the eggs hidden at the park. If it wasn’t for his wife’s quick wit last night, the children might have stumbled on a very naked Jon and Dany. They won’t be up that early, he argued with Dany last night as she put her –well, his actually– shirt back on. His darling wife just laughed at him, reiterating once again that it’s Easter and the little ones will be up before the sun is.
When a very persistent Lyaella dragged him out of the park right after the treasure hunt, saying yelling papa, you’ve got to see this!
He should’ve known.
Now here he is being “blackmailed” by a five-year old into getting a bunny. He made the mistake of letting them eat fries and burgers right before going to sleep last week even though that’s Dany’s number three rule. No fast food before bed time. But Jon had been exhausted and the kids won’t stop asking for their barbeque-flavored fries and cheesy burgers, even he had more than a few bites and he a sips of soft drinks too. His darling daughter, only a five year old but already cunning had decided she’d tell mama if he won’t allow them to get the bunny. He should be angry, even a bit but looking at a five-year old, a seven-year old and a nine-year old plead their case and “threaten” to tell their mama is adorable.
Still, he thinks they have too many housemates already.
Jon scrunched his nose up, eyeing the bunny. “Aren’t the dogs and cats enough?”
“But papa… look.” His youngest held the fluffiest rabbit he had ever seen up, moving it closer for Jon’s inspection. The bunny was small but so chubby, it reminded her of when Ghost was small and nothing but a fur ball of cuteness, his wife would say.
“She looks so lonely here.” Aemon quipped in, petting the bunny his sister is holding.
His other sister, who was preoccupied with the display of fishes and parrots earlier, quipped in, “The other bunnies were mean to her.”
Now Jon rolled his eyes at the Aly, their eldest at nine years old, she had always been the dramatic one, probably because she spent too much time with her mother watching theater plays and musicals. He saw her once playing out the scenes from Lion King when Lya was a baby, with Aemon gpoing along with her antics. And surely, his daughters and son could not have known that the other bunnies were mean to this fluffy one they want to take home, he mused.
“We have to ask mama about it first.”
“Mama said to ask you.” Lya pouted and it took all courage for Jon not to give in right there and then. With her violet eyes and silver hair, she looked like her mom the most and being the tiniest and youngest of their kids, Jon found her rarely could say no to her.
Aemon is out to help plead their case, putting an arm around his little sister and looking at Jon with those pleading puppy eyes that are so like his. Aemon , Dany and Lya have the same shade of hair while Aly inherited his dark locks. Only Aemon got his gray stormy eyes and as his son pleads with him, he remember his own face pleading her mum to buy him a new sword toy when he was six.
“It’s easter, papa. So, little Snowie needs a home.”
Snowie? Great, they’ve named the thing already.
Jon does not have anything against rabbits but with two dogs and three cats in the house, and their three wild children, he does not want to add another trouble to the equation.
“But what about Ghost and Nymeria? Aunt Arya will be mad if she finds out you haven’t been taken care of them.”
“But we will, Papa. We are.” Aly answered, making a show of the basket she had. Inside was dog and cat food.
“And the cats? Drogon have already been feeling neglected since all your attention is on her babies now.”
“But papa, the babies needs to be taken care of.”
“Their mummy too.”
“I am good with Drogon, I brush her hair everyday and feed her.” Aemon told him. “It’s true, papa.”
His sisters nodded, saying all of them take turns when Drogon is feeling sad and they all carry her out to the garden to play with Ghost and Nymeria. Then they clean the baby cats’ bed and feed put blanket on them. Jon knows it’s true, Dany had sent him a video while he was at a meeting conference, the kids were singing lullaby to the cats.
He sighed, not seeing any other way.
“You promise to feed and clean after the bunny?”
Three heads nodded at him.
“And not to neglect any other of our current pets?”
He could see Lya barely containing her excitement as she start to jump up and down.
“Promise, papa.”
He smiled, accepting defeat. “Alright then.”
Lya and Aly shrieked while Aemon threw his fist in the air, yelling a series of yeses. Soon, three set of arms enveloped him in a hug.
“Thank you, papa.”
“Best papa ever.”
“You’re going to have fun at home, Snowie.”
All three of them babbled before going to the shop owner, asking for the bunny’s food and sleeping cot.
He sent a quick text to Dany, letting her know they’re heading home.
Jon: Guess what the kids are brining this time?
Dany: You got the bunny?
Jon: Why do I get the feeling that you’re into the idea of brining little Snowie home?
Dany: Aww, the kids named her already?
Jon: Aly told you the plan, didn’t she?
Dany: She might have mentioned something about a bunny.
Jon chuckled, his wife might be a fierce lawyer, earning her nickname the silver dragon at court, but truly, she’s just a softie.
Dany: I wish I was there. :(
Jon: Miss you too, love.
Dany: Love you, and the kids. Send me pictures.
Jon: Will do. They had taken tons of selfies already. Love you more.
He took a picture of the kids fussing over the bunny at the back of the car then sent it to his wife. She was called up today on emergency hearing, making her miss the Easter egg hunt.
Dany: Gods, I miss my little dragons. Did they get taller already? :(
Dany: Send me one of you too. I want to make sure you did not shave your hair like the last time.
He laughed, turning the kids’ attention to him. It was one time and what was he supposed to do when Lya had accidentally put her bubblegum on his pillow?
“Is that mama?”
"Tell mama we named her Snowie, like Snow. Like our name."
“Aye, come on.”
He snapped one selfie with the four of them, Aemon holding Snowie up for the camera. He hit send.
Dany: Aw, she’s adorable.
Dany: I’m done for the day. Can’t wait to get home and snuggle with you all.
Dany: I have a surprise for you too. ;)
Jon shook his head, smiling. When he had checked the kids are all strapped and the car doors were locked, he started driving home.
