SHINZOU WO SASAGEYO

Summary:

CHAPTER 132: READING BETWEEN THE LINES

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

"Shinzou wo sasageyo" is what the Survey Corps say, standing in salute. To do the salute you clench your right fist and strike your chest with resolve, just above your heart. YOUR heart.

In Chapter 132, we see Levi doing a modified version of this salute. Instead of putting his hand on his own chest, he puts his fist to Hanji's heart. I swear Hanji's expression was so full of realization it looked as if there was an entirely different conversation going on between them while they were saying something else. Speaking through their eyes and expressions. It was something only the both of them would understand, being able to communicate telepathically and all that, but I always wondered what it could've possibly meant. Then it suddenly hit me. Levi's heart. Shinzou wo... He's supposed to strike his heart. Sasageyo...

And he did. He absolutely did! He was striking HIS heart, alright. He must have been trying to tell Hanji that her heart was HIS. HANJI'S HEART WAS HIS.

She was his and will forever be his alone, be it in life, in death and in all other lifetimes they would share.

It could have also meant that his heart was with Hanji's as well! It was like he wanted her to know that his heart belonged to HER, too. HIS HEART WAS HANJI'S.

He was hers, all of him, every part of his heart, his soul, his entire being, and all the lives he would live.

It was like the ultimate gesture for a man of Levi's persona, him giving her his heart, sending her off with all his love leaving himself with nothing but dread of losing her to fate. And it was just that. Fate. It must've been so hard on them both. It was time. Hanji had to go. It must've been hell shaking off the weight of that conversation, or lack there of. It wasn't too late, but it was over. Do i make sense? He had shown her that he knew her heart and he has given her his, in turn, but alas, It was as far as they were meant to go in this life.

We'll be together in the next life for sure. See you, Hanji.

Notes:

Shout out to @fanmoose12, by the way. She's such an amazing writer! Her stories bless my tumblr timeline! Also thankful she posted my work bec since I'm fairly new to tumblr and writing, I have absolutely zero reach and because of her post, people were actually able to read my work, I was so happy!

The shorter explaination of this is that Levi put his fist to Hange's chest because that's where his heart was. 🥺❤️
