Chapter 1: Romance in the air
Chapter Text
Ah Valentine’s Day, the utmost lovey-doveiest of days. Primp Academy was bustling as it usually was, and people were giving their gifts to their partners...
Except for one particular girl, who was planning a confession. A confession to her crush.
Amitie sat at her desk as Accord was teaching, her mind racing as she thought on how to say it. Could she say it with a letter? Maybe buy him some chocolates from the corner store down the road at their break? She sighed to herself as she tried to think. Think... what would Sig like? How would he want to be confessed to? Maybe she could catch some bugs for him! That would work! Oh, but where would she keep them until after school? Until 6pm for that matter! Without Sig noticing? Argh it was all just so frustrating. Amitie lamented to herself, until she was distracted by Professor Accord’s cane slamming down on her desk, snapping her back to reality.
“Paying attention, Amitie?” Accord said, her voice gentle, yet demanding. Amitie quickly nodded out of fear, hearing snickers from her classmates. The most prominent voice she heard was that of her purple clad, glasses wearing friend, no, her best friend... other than Sig. Amitie turned to Klug, looking very unimpressed, which only caused him to attempt to suppress his laughter, his cheeks flushing as he tried not to make another sound. Amitie smiled too, wanting to laugh with her friend, only for Accord to cross her arms, looking quite cross with her students. Amitie sunk into her chair, while Klug straightened out his outfit and sat back up straight. Accord cleared her throat and continued her lesson.
After what felt like forever, the bell rang, and Accord dismissed her students. Amitie waited until Accord was out of the room before she burst out laughing. Klug had a small laugh along with her.
“Why were you not even paying attention?” Klug said between small chuckles. Amitie smiled and looked away, her cheeks flushing
“Oh, no reason~” As the blonde girl looked away, her eyes locked onto Sig who was walking out of the classroom with Lidelle. The aforementioned horned girl smiled and waved to Amitie and Klug as she walked out with Sig and continued their conversation.
Sig was nervous, and he had every right to be.
He walked with Lidelle, telling her about his situation. She seemed calm, which in turn calmed him down too, not that his anxiety could even be seen. He was experiencing something odd, something foreign to him... something that Lidelle had pin-pointed as romantic attraction. He was in love with someone... that someone was someone who would probably never like him back.
“You never know, Sig, he could like you back” Lidelle said reassuringly. Sig looked down.
“I dunno... pretty sure he doesn’t like me like that...”
“But, he could! Maybe you just gotta say something to him!” Her smile grew, her brows no longer seemed knit with nervousness, and instead with confidence. Sig tried to smile back, only the very corners of his lips turning up as he looked back to the shorter girl. As they walked, they passed many students, many couples, hand in hand with each other, and that only left Sig and Lidelle longing. Longing for the ones they had fallen for.
“This would be so easy of he wasn’t oblivious”
“Klug is oblivious? Hah! Amitie hasn’t even noticed all the hints I’ve been dropping all year!” Lidelle said with a little laugh. Sig joined in, snickering a little bit. After what felt like a few hours, even though it was mere minutes, they reached their lockers.
“A letter!”
“Huh?”
“You could write him a letter! I see it happen all the time on TV!” Lidelle said, her eyes sparkling as she spoke. Sig thought about it for a moment as he watched Lidelle put things in her locker and grabbing her lunch.
“I could, but I’m not good with emotions and all that. Also he uses smart language”
“I suppose you’re right, but I could help you!” Lidelle said happily as she closed her locker. Sig smiled slightly and followed his friend out into the courtyard to eat their lunches.
Klug didn’t want to admit he was infatuated.... no that doesn’t sound right. Smitten? No.... in love.
Honestly, he had never felt so strongly for another, especially one so.... slow compared to him, someone who.... someone who took so long just to figure things out about literally anything. Klug lived life as it came to him, and tried not to get so hung up on the past anymore. If he was looking back, how was he to move forward? That was his logic anyways. He always thought, if he were to be in love, it would be with someone more his speed and intellect, but oh, how incorrect he was. The truth was, he had fallen for the half demon in blue, the daydreaming bugcatcher, the heterochromatic, blue haired, blue magic wielding student with that striking demon arm, Sig. He was just so.... adorable, to the celestial mage, at least. So dreamy, so cute and soft, so.... so.... well he ran out of descriptors, but you got the idea. But... Amitie liked him too.... and Klug didn’t want to be a bad friend. Amitie trusted him to know that. So Klug knew nothing would ever come of his attraction, no matter how much it hurt him.
“So anyways Klug,” Amitie started, “How do you think I should confess? Letter? Text? Just man up and tell him?”
“Hm? Oh um.... I don’t think it matters how, Amitie. What’s important is that you tell him, I guess.” He said with a shrug. Amitie beamed at her friend.
“I suppose you’re right! All that matters is that I tell him... but where? The middle of a hallway doesn’t seem very romantic, does it?”
“Seriously, why does it matter? Why is everyone so hung up on high school romances? It’s idiotic! I’m here to study, not fall in love!” He stopped himself, realising that he literally just lied to Amitie’s face. Sure, he didn’t mean to, but he had fallen in love... with the same guy that Amitie liked. But he couldn’t just say that! Not only did he have a reputation, but he didn’t want to take away Amitie’s happiness either. That made things somewhat worse. His heart ached at that thought... the thought that he’d never be satisfied. He was going to let Amitie confess to Sig, then they’d end up together. He didn’t even notice he zoned out and that Amitie was staring.
“Klug?”
“Eh? S-sorry. I’m going to get my lunch. You’re welcome to come with me if you want.” And with that, he stood up and walked out of the room. Amitie stood to join him, only to stop herself. She sighs and sat back down. Obviously she was annoying him again, just as they had started to properly get along. Klug walked to his locker by himself, holding the Record of Sealing close to his chest as he usually did. Perhaps a metaphor for how close magic was to his heart? Oh well, that wasn’t important.
“Maybe it’s best that no one knows.” Klug said to himself with a sigh.
Chapter Text
Amitie skipped through the courtyard, lunch box in hand, when she spotted Lidelle and Sig, sitting together under a tree. Lidelle had her note book in her hand, writing as Sig spoke to her. Amitie thought about heading over to the two to talk to them, but as she saw Sig smiling, she was determined to put her plan into action. She was going to try to find and catch some bugs in the school yard! Yeah, that would work! If it involved bugs, Sig would be interested in anything. So, Amitie ventured to a different part of the courtyard and began her search. Obviously, there were the typical insects like butterflies and ants, but Amitie was looking for something special. A ladybug. Surely Sig would like another ladybug friend! So that’s what she searched for... but to no avail.
“What are you doing, Amitie.” Amitie looked up to see Raffina looking down at her, pink hair fallen over her shoulders in waves, almost long enough to reach Amitie’s face as she looked up.
“I’m looking for bugs for Sig!” She said happily. Raffina rolled her eyes and held a hand out to pull Amitie up.
“Might I ask why?” Raffina questioned, sounding absolutely annoyed.
“I’m planning on telling him how I feel after school today!” She said happily. It wasn’t a secret around school that Amitie was head over heals for Sig, but no one was really certain about it. Raffina sighed.
“You won’t have luck, Amitie. Try, I dunno, buying him chocolate like people usually do on Valentine’s Day.”
“Huh, I could do that, huh? I’m going to do that!” And with that, Amitie ran off. Raffina smiled and continued on her way as she watched Amitie run off.
“Are you sure about this, Lidelle? It just seems like a bad idea” Sig said hesitantly as he held the written, and sealed, letter in his hands. Thinking back on what Lidelle had written, what he had agreed on, he almost cringed. It was so mushy and gushy, Klug would probably think it’s a joke.
“Honestly, there’s only one way to find out” Lidelle said with a determined tone. The only way to find out would be to place the letter in Klug’s locker. So, that’s what they did. Lidelle looked up on the big wall clock and turned to Sig. The bell was almost about to ring, so they needed to get moving, lest they got caught. They ran off, to the classroom, and waited patiently for the bell to ring and class to start.
Class was boring, as per usual, but Sig was more awake than usual, causing everyone to be a bit skeptical about it, but they just shrugged it off in the end. Lunch break started sooner than it seemed to and everyone was back outside, enjoying lunch with their friends. The inside of the school was mostly quiet, due to everyone being outside, but there was still one particular student who was making his way to his locker. Unbeknown to him, there was something there waiting for him to open.
“Hm? A letter? When did this get here?” Klug mumbled to himself as he studied the envelope. He thought about it for a few moments before placing it in his pocket. He’d read it once went to the library to eat. Surprisingly, Akuma allows him to eat in the library, probably because he’s the only student who actually goes there at all. No matter. Klug grabbed his lunch from his pocket and as soon as he closed his locker, he was met with Amitie, with her usual goofy grin, staring at the letter in Klug’s pocket.
“Oooo~! You got a secret admirer~!” Amitie teased as Klug rolled his eyes. He walked off without another word, causing Amitie to follow him, trying to talk to him.
“So, who do you think it is~?”
“None of your business, Amitie” Klug sighed. He knew who he wanted it to be, but he was also sure that said person liked Amitie. He kept walking and she kept blabbering on.
“Listen, if you be quiet, I’ll read it, okay?” Amitie could hear how annoyed Klug was with her, but she smiled triumphantly, knowing that soon, she’d get to read the note with Klug. The two eventually arrived to the library and sat down at one of the tables in the back corner. Klug pulled the letter from his pocket and examined the envelope it was placed in.
The envelope read “To my dearest, Klug”, which, first of all, was really cheesy, and second of all, was very fancily written. Klug and Amitie looked at it, the handwriting didn’t look familiar at all to them. Odd. That means it was either someone they didn’t know, or someone had faked their handwriting so they wouldn’t get caught. It was sealed with a little Chu Puyo shaped sticker which Klug found extremely charming, and eventually, he took out the paper and unfolded it. He pushed his glasses up to sit properly on his face and started to read, definitely not aloud because that would be mortifying.
My dearest, Klug,
You’ve probably never noticed me, but I’ve most certainly noticed you. I sound really possessive by calling you ‘my dearest’, but to be honest, I just cherish you that much. From your intelligence to your magical prowess, even when you’re being snarky or kind of rude, through all of that, I still adore you. Your sparkling, emerald eyes and your soft, brown hair are just two of the many things I love about you. There probably isn’t enough room on this page to write the true extent of my adoration of you, nor would there be enough time to write them all, but to make a long story short, you never cease to amaze me. I never forget to thank fate that we got to meet. To be honest, I wanted to tell you these things in person, but I was afraid that I’d fumble over my words or say something wrong that would make you hate me, so I decided to write them and let you decide if you wanted to hear these words from me.
I want to tell you all these things in person, but that’s up to you. I’d like to see you behind the school at 6pm. I know that’s kind of late, but I also know that you usually stay until that late studying in the library. If you decide not to, I won’t be mad or upset or even hold anything against you. I’ll still love you, even if I can’t say it to you.
I hope I will see you, though, and that I can hold you in my arms, and maybe I could be your dearest too...
Love, your secret admirer xoxo.
Amitie and Klug were in absolute shock after reading that. Klug’s face was extremely red as he stared at the letter, reading and re-reading it over and over again. Someone really... loved him in that way?
“Are you gonna do it?”
“W-what?!”
“Meet them!” Amitie said enthusiastically as Klug folded the letter back and put it back into the envelope and then back into his pocket. He pondered on Amitie’s question and nodded. Amitie squealed happily, only to get scolded by Akuma, but she seemed incredibly excited for her friend.
The two finished their lunch in silence, Klug in absolute bewilderment. There was someone out there who could actually stand his annoying self.
Before they knew it’s they were back in class again, sitting through the last class of the day. Klug was struggling to pay attention to what Accord was saying, no matter how hard he tried. He couldn’t stop thinking about the letter.
Obviously he was going to meet them, he just had to wait until 6pm.
Notes:
Sorry this one is a bit short! I spent most of the time writing the letter and I didn’t want to leave you waiting for that long! I hope you understand. So I’m in lockdown again so I have more time to write!
Chapter Text
Sig probably would have waited behind the school for Klug for the two hours if he didn’t have a catch up class with Accord. There was no way he’d even pay attention, but he was there anyways. Before he went to his class, however, he ran into Amitie.
“Hey Sig! Do you wanna come over after school today? Maybe, y’know, we could hang out?”
“Sorry Ami. I’ve got catch up classes with Ms.Accord today”
“Aw really? That sucks! I can wait out the front for you if you’d like!”
“Until 6....?”
“Of course! You’re my best friend, of course I’d wait for you!”
“You can if you want, I guess. I’ll meet you there when I’m done, ‘Kay?”
“Of course! Bye! See you then!”
Sig sighed as he sat in class, absolutely nervous about whether or not Klug actually got and read the letter. His thoughts started to wonder off, thinking about what exactly he was going to say to Klug... and if he would even like him back. Klug was a lot more gentle with him then he was with anyone else, but that could have been because he was slower than everyone else in terms of thinking and knowing what’s going on. He snapped back to attention when he realised Accord was right in front of him.
“Sig, you spaced out again. It’s 6:00. You’re free to go”
“O-oh um. Thank you Professor.” He grabbed his bag and ran out of the classroom.
Amitie still sat outside the school, watching through the front doors of the school has the familiar figure of Sig ran past, through the hallways. Maybe he’d forgotten something? Either way, Amitie ran inside, only to see Sig turning a corner. The directions he was headed in was to the back door of the school? There was a sudden, sinking feeling in her gut for reasons she hadn’t yet put together, but she still followed, sure to keep out of his sight.
After running for a few minutes, and not getting tired mind you, Sig made it to the back of the school. Klug wasn’t there yet, causing Sig to panic slightly. After what felt like a draining eternity, Sig could hear footsteps in the grass behind him, followed by the sound of a very familiar, charming voice. Sig turned around and was met with Klug’s confused expression.
“Sig...? What are you doing here?”
“I-I was waiting for you...”
“E-eh?”
“Sorry, that sound weird, doesn’t it?” Sig smiled awkwardly as Klug’s expression just ended up even more confused. His head was tilted slightly to the side as his brain tried to piece together the situation.
“You... did you.... write that letter?”
“I guess you could say that. Lidelle wrote it for me, but I told her what to write.... and she fixed a few bits though” And just like that, the silence fell over them. Amitie had finally pieced everything together! Sig wrote the letter! Sig... liked Klug.... oh. She felt her heart sink but she couldn’t leave now. Maybe it was self torture, or maybe she was holding out hope that Klug would reject him. Was that cruel?
“Sig, I.... I had no idea you... thought of me so highly...”
“How could I not...? You’re amazing, Klug. I’ve liked you for a while now, to be honest. Kinda really, really like you. I wasn’t confident enough to say that in person” Sig could feel his cheeks heat up slightly as he looked away. Klug sighed and spoke up.
“Sig... you’re way cooler than me. You have a claw! How cool is that?! And I’m just... well... me-“
“B-but that’s why you’re cool! You’re you! Urm... sorry you were talking and I interrupted you.”
“No, that’s okay. I don’t mind” Klug looked up at Sig and smiled slightly. Sig smiled back, and the two were, once again surrounded by silence. Sig’s smile broke as he looked down. Klug looked worried. Did he say something wrong...?
“Hey Klug... I think I’m just gonna say what I wanted to say.”
“Go ahead, I’m listening”
“Klug, I think I might be in love with you...” Sig looked back at Klug to see that his face had gone bright red and he looked extremely shocked, but also deeply flattered.
“S-Sig... t-this isn’t a joke, right?”
“Why would I joke about something like that?”
“I-I don’t know!”
“Sorry... this probably wasn’t the best time to tell you... I should probably go though, Amitie is waiting for-“
“Wait!” As Sig had turned to leave, Klug grabbed his arm to keep him there. Sig blushed brightly too as he turned to face Klug.
“Sig, I-I think- no... I love you too! I have for a while, too! It’s just that... well, you’re perfect! You’re tall, handsome, strong, you have a sense of humour, you’re passionate... and the best of all worlds, you don’t hate me! I’m insufferable and yet... you haven’t left me behind. I don’t want to deny it anymore! And I want you to know! I’m in love with you, Sig! And I want you to be my boyfriend and for me to be yours!” Silence fell over the boys again. They both felt like embracing the other and crying. Sig took the initiative as he, without warning, grabbed Klug’s hips and pulled him into a tight hug.
“I-I thought I’d never get to hear you say those words....”
“Well, I said it. Satisfied?” Klug said with a small chuckle. Sig simply held him tighter and nuzzled into his hair. Klug smiled and hugged Sig back, relishing in the warmth. Sig loosened his grip slightly so he could look down at Klug. Without thinking, Klug grabbed Sig’s shirt collar and pulled him down for a kiss. The half demon was shocked at first, but eventually kissed back as Klug moved his free hand up to Sig’s shoulder. Their kiss was tender and loving, yet it left them longing for more.
“Does this mean we’re dating now or...?” Sig asked with an embarrassed grin on his face. Klug smiled and nodded before Sig pulled him in for another kiss.
Now Amitie felt sick.
Notes:
HOOOOOO BOI THAT WAS FUN. I DID MOST OF THAT IN ONE NIGHT. I’M GETTING BETTER AT THIS.
Thank you! This is now my most popular story! It means a lot that people actually like my content. Knowing that means a lot to me and gives me motivation to write the next chapter! So now they’re dating, but there’s still Amitie and Lidelle to deal with. Next chapter will probably be Amitie centred! Anyways, I had so much fun writing this chapter and having them get all gushy!!! *squee* I love them so much~
Anyhoo, thank you so much for reading and I hope you look forward to the next chapter... which might take a while because I have assessments all week, then it’s show week with my theatre company, then exams... so it might not be done/out until the end of the month.... sorry. Please forgive me.... すみません!!!
Anyways, love you all! Klug, out!

Edit: Only now do I realise that this chapter is very dialogue heavy. Sorry.
Chapter Text
It was now the morning on the 15th, the day after Valentine’s Day. Amitie ended up walking home alone. She couldn’t bare to see Sig after what she had witnessed. Amitie just stared at the ceiling. She didn’t want to get up, she didn’t want to go to school, she didn’t want to see Sig… she didn’t want to see Klug.
Klug was her best friend! He knew about her crush! How could he just do that to her…? Did their friendship and trust mean nothing to him…?
She rolled over and checked her phone.
Unread text from Sig.
She opened the text and read it.
‘hey ami, sorry i didn’t show up last night, i had something to take care of’
Amitie sighed longingly. She felt crushed.
But she couldn’t let everyone know that. So she got out of bed and started to get ready for school.
The atmosphere at school was… different today, everyone thought. Amitie was her usual bubbly self, but… it didn’t seem sincere. She seemed hurt. There were figurative clouds covering up her sunshine, and no matter how much she tried to shine though it, everyone could tell something was up.
Everyone got a little bit more suspicious when Sig actually stayed awake during class and tried his best to participate in class discussions. Something happened last night, and everyone in the school was determined to find out. Lunch break arrived and Raffina went to see Amitie.
“Hey Amitie!”
“Oh, hey Raffina…”
“Something the matter? You seem depressed”
“It’s… not my place to say.”
‘Not her place to say?’ Now Raffina was extra worried.
“Did… something happen with you and Sig last night?”
“I said it’s not my place to say.”
“Oh no, you are not giving me that bull-crap! Amitie, I’ve known you almost my whole life! Now, what happened?”
“Would you just drop it?!” Amitie snapped. Raffina flinched in shock. Amitie stood up and trudged away from the now extremely shocked Raffina.
As Amitie was looking for a quiet place, she saw… Sig and Klug walking through the hallway together. Klug was ranting about something and Sig was simply listening, nodding along. From an outsider perspective, there was nothing romantic between them, as they hung out often anyways, but Amitie knew what the dealio was. Klug stopped ranting for a moment to call out to Amitie.
“Hey! Amitie!” Klug walked over to her. She stared blankly at him. If this was an anime, there would be a dark shadow over her face right about now, she thought to herself.
“Hi.” Amitie said flatly. Amitie’s demeanour automatically changed as Sig walked over to join them. Her scowl was quickly replaced with a cute smile, cheeks glowing slightly pink. Klug knew something was up, everyone did, but Klug knew… it was about him.
“So Sig,” Amitie started. “You doing anything after school today?”
“Um… don’t think so. Why?”
“Well, just wondering, just wondering…” she looked away, eyelashes fluttering.
She didn’t know why she did this, seeing as she had heard what happened last night, but part of her hoped that maybe one day, Sig would realise that he loved her instead… it was false hope, she knew, but she wanted to believe she still had a chance. Klug cleared his throat, causing Amitie to look up at Klug blankly, and for Sig to look down at him, paying full attention again.
“Sig and I have some business to attend to, if you’ll excuse us, Amitie”
“Okay. Bye.” Amitie said flatly. And with that, Sig and Klug walked off together.
Amitie could feel her heart sink every time she saw them.
~~~
Sig didn’t think he could feel any happier. Knowing that Klug reciprocated his feeling had him feeling like he was on cloud 9. It wasn’t easy for him to outwardly show it, but Klug knew that, and he didn’t care. He didn’t mind not getting bombarded with affection, he enjoyed Sig taking things at his own pace, he enjoyed Sig.
A lot.
Klug couldn’t ignore the guilt in the back of his head. He prioritised his own happiness over Amitie’s and he felt awful about it… but at the same time… Sig liked him, and he liked Sig… so he couldn’t just shut Sig down so Amitie could be happy, because then Sig wouldn’t be happy. Sure, Amitie wasn’t happy now, but it could have ended with no one being happy.
Klug wouldn’t be happy because he wouldn’t be with Sig, Sig wouldn’t be happy because he got shot down, and Amitie wouldn’t be happy because Sig doesn’t reciprocate her feelings…
The two walked together around the school, just talking and enjoying each other’s company.
Sig’s hand twitched, gently brushing against Klug’s. Klug looked down, gently brushing his own hand against Sig’s. They both looked at each other in complete silence. Klug took the initiative, lacing his fingers with Sig’s. They were both tense… but it felt… right… almost like they were made for each other… they both blushed as they looked at each other.
Klug didn’t know what came over him, as he slowly leaned in to kiss Sig. They were in the middle of the hallway, and he just wanted to kiss him. Sig slowly leaned in too… and just as they were about to kiss-
The bell for class rung loudly, snapping the two out of their trance.
~~~
Everyone was in class now.
Lidelle sat behind Amitie, cheek resting on her hand, gazing dreamily at her.
Sig gently tapped on Lidelle’s shoulder and handed her a small slip of paper.
Lidelle opened it and saw a purple and a blue heart next to each other, scribbled onto the note. Lidelle’s eyes lit up as she turned to Sig, mouth agape. Sig nodded and Lidelle silently squeed. She flapped her sleeves happily.
Sig motioned for her to flip the paper open. She did and read it as best she could (Sig didn’t have the best handwriting).
‘Did you say anything to Amitie?’
Lidelle shook her head, frown on her face. Sig frowned too, but then scribbled something down on another slip of paper.
‘You could write her a letter?’
Lidelle looked at Sig, an amused grin on her face, and Sig looked back with a content smile on his.
“Lidelle?” Professor Accord called from the front. Lidelle looked up, fear in her eyes.
“Y-yes, Ms Accord?”
“Do you know the answer to question 4?”
“O-oh um…” Lidelle looked down at her lap, thinking about the answer.
“Is it 3?”
Professor Accord smiled and nodded. Lidelle let out a breath the didn’t even know she was holding.
~~~
The end of the day rolled around.
Klug wanted to stay behind to study, so Sig was going to walk home alone today.
As he walked, he heard footsteps behind him.
He stopped and turned around to see Amitie.
“Oh, hey Ami”
Amitie huffed, given that she ran to catch up to Sig.
“Hi Sig!” Amitie said cheerfully. Sig smiled at her slightly, and Amitie felt her heart start to beat faster.
“Do you wanna walk home together?” Sig asked. Amitie nodded enthusiastically.
The two walked together in silence. Amitie’s hand gently brushed against Sig’s, causing her to start blushing. Sig didn’t notice…
Amitie frowned, but a cold breeze hit her skin and she audibly shivered. Sig looked to her.
“You okay?”
“Y-yeah, it’s just a bit chilly, is all!”
“Do you wanna borrow my jacket?”
The words echoed in Amitie’s head. Suddenly, she felt like she was floating.
“I-if that’s okay with you!” She stuttered. Sig shrugged and took off his jacket, handing it to her.
Amitie placed her bag on the ground as she put on Sig’s jacket. It was big on her, but it was also a bit too big for Sig himself, so that was to be expected. Amitie put her bag back on.
The jacket smelt like… Klug. Amitie felt herself get a bit jealous.
They continued to walk in silence… until.
“So, Sig… you and Klug have been spending a lot of time together lately…”
Sig’s eyes went wide. He started to panic.
“I-is that a problem?”
“No, not at all! It’s nice to see you making new friends!”
“Y-yeah… we’re just friends, that’s all…”
Amitie internally grimaced. That was a lie and she knew it.
“Oh, okay then…”
Silence again.
Amitie stopped walking, and Sig stopped as well.
“You okay, Ami?”
“Sig… you didn’t show up yesterday after school… why’s that?”
“I…” He couldn’t think of an excuse. He started to panic. “I had catch up classes with Accord… I told you that…”
“Yeah but, I told you I’d wait for you… and you didn’t show up for a really long time…”
“I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry.”
Amitie tried not to snap. She wanted to yell at Sig, but she stopped herself.
“You aren’t.”
“Huh?”
“You aren’t sorry… and neither is Klug.”
“What are you-“
“Klug KNEW that I liked you! He knew and yet he still accepted you anyways! I’m sure that he did it just to spite me! All of what he said to you about liking you for a long time… I’m almost certain that’s a lie! He would have told me… he lied just to not break your heart and to break mine!”
“Amitie… how did you-“
“I followed you after class. I saw you go out there to see him… I told him to go see you… because I didn’t know it was you!”
Amitie stomped her foot as she yelled. The tears welled up in her eyes. She took off her bag to remove Sig’s jacket. She shoved it into his chest.
“Amitie-“
“I was stupid for thinking we had something-“
“Amitie!-“
“I was stupid for thinking I had a chance!-“
“AMITIE-“
“I WAS DUMB FOR THINKING YOU’D CONSIDER MY FEELINGS!”
As she shouted, Amitie ran off.
“Amitie! Wait!”
Notes:
I’m so sorry that this took so long to make!! This took me over a year to finish, but I’m proud with how it turned out so far!
Chapter 5: Be mine, not his
Chapter Text
The front door to Amitie’s house slammed shut. She locked the door.
She rested her back against the door, and started to hyperventilate.
An idea popped into her head.
She walked to the kitchen, and grabbed her phone from it’s charger. She pulled her notebook. She read through the phone numbers she had written down. She looked for one number in particular.
Feli.
She entered the number into the phone and waited for her to pick up.
‘Hello, this is Feli.’
“Hey Feli! It’s Amitie!”
‘Ah, hello, Amitie. What do you need’
“Um… so like… uh…” Amitie froze for a moment. “Do you… know how to make a love potion?”
‘Huh…?’
“Like… to make someone fall in love with another person?”
‘Why do you need to know?’
“Oh uh… I’m just asking for a friend…”
‘Mhm… sure.’
“So do you?”
‘Yes, I do. Why does your friend need it?’
“Well…” Amitie looked at the photo of her and her friends in her notebook. She grimaced as she noticed Klug’s arm around Sig’s shoulder in the photo. “My friend really likes this guy… and she wants to ask him out… she was going to on Valentine’s Day, but she didn’t get the chance to. I *know* he likes her back, but he can’t admit it. I- *she* thinks that giving him a love potion would give him the confidence he needs to ask her out.”
‘Hm… I can do it for a price. Can you come over tomorrow?’
“Before or after school?”
‘During. Don’t go to school, come straight over.’
“Okay! I’ll see you then?”
‘Yes.’
With that, Feli hung up. Amitie giggled to herself. She looked at the photo of her friends in the notebook. She grabbed a nearby pen out of her pen holder, a red one. She took the lid off the pen and messily scribbled out Klug’s face in the photo, and drawing a heart around Sig.
“Soon… he’ll be mine.”
~~~
“Morning, Sig. Morning, Klug. Have either of you seen Amitie today?” Raffina asked as she sat down at her desk in the classroom. Klug shook his head.
“Nope. I’m guessing she’s just running late today, that’s all.”
Sig still felt guilt for the argument yesterday.
“You okay, Sig?” Klug asked as he placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Well…” Sig looked down at his desk. “Ami and I had an argument last night…” He looked down at his left hand, watching as his clawed fingers gently scraped against the wood, leaving small scratch marks in their wake.
“Oh…”
“It ended… badly. She ran off crying…”
Raffina stood up, walking over to the boys.
“What was it about?”
“Apparently I knew that Amitie had feelings for me? I really didn’t know… but she still got mad… and apparently…” Sig looked up to Klug. “Apparently you were lying about liking me to not hurt my feelings…”
“W-what?!” Klug grabbed Sig’s hands in his own. “I would never lie about that!”
Sig looked down, not sure if he believed Klug.
“It’s true.” Raffina said as she crossed her arms over her chest. Sig turned to look at her.
“I’ve known Klug my whole life, Sig. He wouldn’t lie about having feelings for another person…” Raffina looked to Klug with a gentle smile on her face. “After all, he did shoot me down all those years ago.”
“Wait really?” Sig turned slightly to look at Raffina, still holding Klug’s hands. Raffina nodded.
The door slid open as Professor Accord walked in.
~~~
“Hello? Feli? Are you home?” Amitie called out as she walked into the dark house. She looked around at the glowing crystals on shelves, incense burners on lower shelves. The smell of roses and lavender was almost overwhelming. Amitie stopped moving as she saw a shadow walk towards her. She flinched.
“Hello, Amitie.” Feli said softly, stepping into the light. “Close the door, would you?”
Amitie closed the door. Feli nodded and walked away, and Amitie followed close behind.
“Wow… your house is… like… Halloween themed!” Amitie exclaimed happily. Feli hummed softly as she kept walking.
Feli lead Amitie into a small room, almost the size of a study. She opened a book to a certain page and read off it. She walked around the room, collecting ingredients from shelves.
“Woah… is this your potion room? Can I drink this one?-“
“DON’T TOUCH THAT!” Amitie flinched. Feli looked at her, serious expression. “It will kill you.”
“Oh-“ Amitie stepped away from the bottle, holding her hands behind her back, and watching Feli work.
Feli mixed a bunch of ingredients into a bottle, measuring all and putting them in. Eventually, the liquid inside turned a glowing pink. Feli thought long and hard, before reaching for an ingredient not in the book. She crushed it into a fine powder and poured it into the bottle.
She knew what Amitie was using the potion for, but she didn’t want to see it actually happen.
Amitie looked confused.
“That doesn’t look like it was in the book”
“It’s to nullify the taste of the potion so no one can tell it’s being used. If I didn’t, it would taste and smell awful.” Feli lied. Amitie didn’t know she was lying, and just nodded. She really did believe her.
“Oh, okay!” Amitie said with a grin. Feli placed the small vile in Amitie’s hands, but then placed her own hands on top.
“You must use all of it. If there is a drop left over in the vile, it won’t work and your… ‘friend’… won’t get her happy ever after. Understand?”
Amitie nodded.
“I won’t forget!”
“Good. Now go.”
~~~
The end of the day rolled around. Amitie hadn’t been seen all day. As Sig and Klug were walking home, side by side, hands laced together, Sig’s phone pinged loudly. He took it from his pocket and checked the number.
“Amitie?” Klug said with a confused tone as he looked at Sig’s phone. Sig slightly skimmed over the message, before shoving his phone back into his pocket. He looked to Klug with a gentle expression.
“It’s not important, I can read it later”
Klug nodded, gripping Sig’s hand harder. Sig noticed and looked a bit worried.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine…”
“No you aren’t, Klug. What’s wrong?”
“Well…” Klug looked down. “I’m just… I feel bad. I knew that Amitie liked you…”
“You did?”
Klug nodded.
“I was the first person she told… so I understand why she’s angry at me.”
“Klug…” Sig stopped walked and turned to face Klug, holding both of his hands in his own. “I don’t really care how Amitie feels about us being together. I like you- no… I love you… a lot. You mean the world to me…”
Klug’s eyes started to sparkle and his cheeks heated up as he looked at Sig. Having someone who loved him like Sig did… it didn’t feel real, but he knew that it was. They stayed there, looking into one another’s eyes… relishing in the fact that they were there together, and any challenges they faced, it would be together.
Klug pulled his hands from Sig’s and hugged him tightly.
“You mean everything to me, too, Sig…”
Chapter 6: Dinner “Date”
Chapter Text
Eventually, Sig made it back to his house.
He kicked off his shoes and fell backwards onto the couch. He looked up at the ceiling as he took a deep breath in, then out. He went to pull his phone from his pocket, but stopped as he shot up and walked over to his room.
He looked at Vi, his ladybug, in her terrarium, and smiled at her.
He took the mesh lid off of the inclosure and watched as Vi flew out and landed in Sig’s hair. He reached up, gently rubbing her carmine shell, and walked out through the back door with her still nestled in his hair.
Immediately, Vi flew over to the rose bush to feast on the Aphids that loved to feed on the petals.
Watching Vi intently, Sig sat down on the rusted and rickety swing set that faced the bush. He held the once shining metal chains in his right hand, feeling the rough and bumpy rust against his soft skin.
He smiled, watching Vi feast.
Vi flew back over to him, as she had finished feasting. He stood up, and made his way back inside.
He sat on the couch, and turned on the TV, wrapping himself in a blanket. Vi nestled into his hair.
His phone buzzed.
It was a message from Klug. He read it, smiling, before he remembered the unread message from Amitie.
“Hm…? She’s inviting me over…?” Sig asked aloud as he looked up to Vi. She looked sleepy, so Sig carried her back to her enclosure.
He pulled his phone back out of his pocket and replied to her text.
~~~
Amitie walked back and forth around her kitchen as she prepared dinner. She was super excited since Sig agreed to come over. She smiled to herself as she looked at the small bottle of pink liquid.
‘Tonight…’ she thought to herself. She knew it was selfish to just take Sig all for herself… but she had loved him for too long just to let someone else take him away.
There was a knock on the door.
She squealed excitedly as she straightened out her dress and ran to the door.
“Hey Sig, glad you could make it!” She said with her usual chipper grin.
“Yeah. My parents aren’t home and I didn’t really feel like having dinner alone… so it was nice for you to invite me over” Sig said with a small shrug.
“I’m almost done with dinner, so just make yourself comfortable at the table!”
Sig nodded slightly as he sat down at the dining room table. Amitie’s house was a lot bigger than his, and they actually owned a dining table too… Sig’s parents would always just sit on the couch and eat dinner in front of the TV, while Sig preferred to eat alone in his room.
Amitie looked at the two glasses of pink lemonade on the counter, as well as the potion from Feli. She chose a pink drink as the potion was also pink. She pulled the cork out of the vile and tipped it all in, tapping it against the plastic wine glass to make sure every last drop was in. She smiled to herself as she walked into the dining room with both drinks in hand. She could tell which was hers as it was in her cup. (She knew it was hers due to the golden sparkles imbedded into the plastic.)
“Let me just go grab the food!”
“M’kay then”
Amitie fast walked back to the kitchen and grabbed both of the plates.
~~~
The two sat across from each other, Amitie doing most of the talking and rambling on and on like she usually did. Sig didn’t mind, of course, because Klug did the same thing.
Sig hadn’t taken a sip from his drink yet.
“Hey, you wanna do a toast?” Amitie said in a joking manner, seeing as the cups mimicked wine glasses. Sig shrugged with an amused smile.
“Sure, why not?”
“In that case… to love?”
“Eh sure, why not?”
A clink of plastic echoed through the room. They both took a sip.
No change in Sig’s behaviour. Amitie just shrugged it off, thinking it was just delayed.
~~~
Dinner was long finished, as was their drinks.
Nothing had changed.
Maybe… it would take affect after he slept!
Sig looked at the time.
“Ah, I should be heading home”
“Awh, so soon?”
“Well, I wanna go before it gets too dark, cuz I gotta walk home”
“You could stay the night?”
“Thanks, but I’m okay” Sig said with a slight apologetic smile.
“Aww, okay, I understand!”
Amitie walked Sig to the door.
“That was fun… we should do this again.”
“Y-yeah! Of course!”
“See you at school tomorrow?”
“Yep! See you tomorrow!”
Sig waved to Amitie as he walked down her driveway.
“Love you…” Amitie whispered once he was out of earshot.
Chapter 7: Surprise attack
Chapter Text
Accord was instructing her class as per usual. Sig was asleep at his desk, Amitie wasn’t really paying attention, Klug and Raffina were bickering, and Lidelle stayed quiet.
This was normal. Nothing was out of the ordinary.
Odd.
Amitie pulled out her phone under her desk and shot a text to Feli.
~~~
It was lunch time now. Why had Sig not gone to her? Maybe he was breaking things off with Klug? Maybe he had already done that and was currently looking for her? Maybe he-
Amitie heard a familiar laugh in the distance. She turned to the noise.
Sig and Klug were sitting next to each other. Close.
Her phone pinged. A message back from Feli.
‘Did you use all of it?’
‘Of course I did!’
Amitie grumbled to herself.
“H-hey Amitie!”
“Eep!”
Amitie looked up to see Lidelle standing before her.
“M-mind if I sit with you?”
“Not at all!” Amitie said with a smile as she pat the spot next to her. Lidelle sat down, not too close, but close enough that their hands almost touched. “So, what’s up?”
“N-nothing I just… wanted to sit with you, that’s all…” Lidelle said with a small, bashful giggle. Amitie smiled at that… and her smile made Lidelle blush.
“You want a cookie?” Amitie asked as she held a chocolate chip cookie out to the smaller girl. Lidelle thought about it before Amitie reassured that they were vegan safe.
“O-okay then!” Lidelle held her hand out, but Amitie shook her head.
“Say ‘ahh!’”
“W-what?!”
“I wanna feed you the cookie so you don’t get crumbs on your sleeves!” Lidelle was bright red at this point. Her heart was pounding out of her chest. Her head was spinning. “You okay? You’ve gone red!”
She didn’t know what came over her. It was like she blacked out.
One second she was looking at Amitie with wide eyes, the next she was face to face with her, hands on the other girl’s cheeks, and the next she was running away.
Amitie felt her face go red as she watched Lidelle run away with wide eyes.
“She… she kissed me…”
~~~
Class was awkward.
Sitting in the same room as your best friend who kissed you on the lips no more than an hour ago was awkward.
No one else even saw it happen.
Lidelle would avert her gaze every time Amitie looked to her.
Amitie felt her phone vibrate, another text from Feli, trying to “figure out” what went wrong. She just ignored the text, and opened up her texts with Lidelle.
‘Hey’
Lidelle’s eyes went wide as she saw her phone light up inside her desk. Professor Accord had left the room to retrieve some worksheets, so it was safe.
‘Hi Amitie’
‘I need to talk to you about before’
‘Go ahead-‘
‘What did that kiss mean?’
‘I’
Lidelle stopped. She couldn’t just say it so quickly. But she did just kiss her without warning.
‘Amitie, I really like you’
Lidelle held her breath as she saw Amitie’s eyes go wide, followed by frantic typing.
‘YOU WHAT?!’
‘I like you! Like, like-like!’
Since when?! Amitie was so… confused! What was going on?! Was this the result of Feli’s potion?! What was happening?!
Amitie stood up suddenly and ran out of the room.
~~~
“Feli! Feli open up! I need to talk to you!” Amitie slammed on Feli’s front door.
“What?” Feli said flatly as she opened the door.
“Feli, I need help!”
“What with…?”
“I think something was wrong with the love potion you gave me!”
“What do you mean?” Feli asked as she opened the door fully to allow Amitie inside. The two sat across from each other at Feli’s dining table.
“Sig and Klug are still together, but now Lidelle has confessed her feelings for me!”
Feli shook her head.
“I knew it. You used my potion to try to get Sig to love you.”
“Of course I did! Did you actually believe the friend story?”
“No.”
“Oh.”
The two went silent. Amitie frowned, tears forming in her eyes.
“I don’t know what to do! That potion was meant to work! It was meant to give me my happy ever after!”
“Amitie, I knew your intentions. I wasn’t going to let you do that to him.”
“What?! You lied to me!”
“You lied to me, too.”
“I-“ Crap. Amitie couldn’t argue with that. She did lie to Feli. She hung her head in shame. “What am I meant to do now…?”
“Do you like Lidelle?”
“What?” Amitie looked up, eyes wide.
“I said do you like Lidelle?”
Chapter 8: Those Words
Chapter Text
What Feli had said really resonated with Amitie as she made the walk back to the school.
Did she like Lidelle?
Surely not… they were just friends!
Lidelle wanted to be more, though… but Amitie wasn’t sure if she felt the same, but she didn’t want to break Lidelle’s heart.
She sighed as she walked towards the school gates, her classmates and teacher all there waiting for her.
“And where did you run off to, Amitie?” Professor Accord asked, hand on her hip, the other holding Popoi and her cane. Lidelle and Klug looked worried, Raffina was concerned, and Sig was just being Sig.
“U-um… Feli asked me to-“
“Feli?” Klug asked, surprised. “What did Feli need you for?”
“O-oh um, don’t worry about that! Just helping out a friend, is all!”
Everyone seemed satisfied with that answer. Accord put her hand on Amitie’s shoulder.
“It’s all well and good to do a favour for a friend, but please tell an adult where you are going, and ask for permission first next time.”
“Yes, Professor, I will.”
They all walked back towards the school, but Amitie was walking slowly. Lidelle looked back at her, and stopped until she caught up.
“Are you okay, Amitie…?”
“Lidelle… I thought about what you said… and…” Amitie inhaled, then exhaled. “I’d like to try it out, us, I mean…”
“R-really?!”
“If you’d like that?”
“O-of course!” Lidelle exclaimed as she hugged Amitie tightly. Amitie was shocked, then returned the hug with a smile on her face.
~~~
A week had passed.
Amitie liked this. She liked being with Lidelle. She liked Lidelle… but she still LOVED Sig… and hated seeing him with Klug.
Maybe she was still bitter about her trust being broken, maybe not, maybe it was just the idea of her best friend dating her crush. She really didn’t know anymore.
“Ami?”
“Hm? Oh, hey Delle!” She said with a huge smile. Lidelle smiled back as she sat down next to Amitie, placing her lunchbox in her lap.
“I um… I accidentally made too many rice balls for lunch… would you like some?”
“Oh, sure!” Amitie held her hand out to be passed the rice balls, only for Lidelle to shake her head. This felt familiar.
“Say ‘ahh’!”
Amitie could help but laugh happily, but complied nonetheless.
“Ah, Sig look!” Klug exclaimed happily. Sig looked over to see Lidelle feeding Amitie a rice ball.
“Aw, that’s cute” Sig replied with a slight smile. “Good on Lidelle, really”
“Hm? What do you mean?”
“I gave her the push to tell Ami how she felt”
“Really? I didn’t know that!”
“Mhm. She actually helped me to tell you, too”
“I guess it all just comes full circle, then~”
The two boys sat side by side, shoulder to shoulder. Sig rested his head on Klug’s shoulder, small smile on his face.
Klug rested his head atop Sig’s as he laced their fingers together.
~~~
“Hey Lidelle?”
“Hm? What’s up, Ami?”
“You know how this was just like… trialling…?”
“Yeah?”
“Well…” Amitie looks away, cheeks red. “I want to stay this way…”
“E-eh??”
“You and me! I want this to be official! I want to go date you!”
Lidelle’s eyes filled with tears.
“Oh Amitie~!”
The two embraced tightly, relishing in one another’s warmth.
Chapter 9: Unaccepted Apology
Chapter Text
“So, let me get this straight…” Raffina started. “You tried to drug Sig with a love potion so he’d fall in love with you instead?”
“It sounds really bad when you say it out loud…”
“It IS really bad, dude!” Raffina exclaimed. Amitie looked away with a guilty frown.
“At least I feel guilty!” Amitie snapped back. “And besides! Feli put something in it so it wouldn’t actually WORK! So it’s fine!”
Raffina let out an exasperated sigh as she face palmed and shook her head. Amitie looked even more upset now.
“You need to tell him.”
“W-what?!”
“You need to tell him! You’ll live with the guilt for the rest of your life, otherwise! And you need to apologise to Klug!”
“Why do I have to apologise to HIM?!”
“Because you’ve been stressing him out!”
“Oh, so I have to bend over backwards because his feelings are hurt!?-“
“Amitie, you’ve made him feel like he’s a shit friend, Amitie! He feels awful! He can’t even properly ENJOY his relationship because he’s filled with guilt!”
“I-…” Amitie froze up. “W-what?”
“Every little glare you give him in the halls, the sarcasm, the avoidance… he feels like he’s made the worst mistake in the world. He called me, absolutely distressed, talking about how he considered ending things with Sig so you could pursue him.”
“Oh…” The guilt set in finally. “I-I had no idea… I-I didn’t mean to burn bridges or push him away… I was just… jealous… and I felt betrayed…”
“That’s why you need to apologise, Amitie.”
Amitie sat still, almost as if frozen. Raffina sat across from her, arms crossed over her chest, leaned back against her chair, stern expression. Amitie stood eventually.
“I’m going to talk to him.”
“Good on you.”
~~~
“Klug! Hey! Heyyy! Hey Klug!” Amitie called as she ran up to him in the library.
“Oi, stop shouting! This is a library!”
“Oopsies, sorry!” Amitie laughed. She sat across from Klug. “We need to talk.”
“What…?”
“Klug, I’m sorry.”
“For… what?”
“For treating you like crap these past few weeks… I guess I-… I was just jealous, and I felt betrayed… I didn’t intentionally mean to hurt you… I just… didn’t know how else to react…”
“O-oh…” Klug looked away. “Um… okay…”
“So… apology accepted?”
“No.”
“What?! Get really real!”
“Amitie, you made me feel awful these past few weeks. This was supposed to be happy for me, but you kept making me feel like I didn’t deserve this! I considered breaking up with Sig so YOU could have him, since you’re so desperate! And now you’re hurting Lidelle by using her for your own gratification?!” Klug stood up and grabbed his things.
“Klug?”
“You’re only apologising, not because you’re sorry, but because you want pity!”
“Wait!-“
“Your name is supposed to mean ‘friendship’… some friend you’re being.” Klug said flatly as he walked away, leaving Amitie sitting alone at the table in the library.
~~~
Outside the library, Klug trudged through the hall. Lidelle watched, concerned for her friend.
“Klug, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Lidelle.” Klug snapped as he walked past her.
“Oh dear…” Lidelle whispered as she followed him, not far behind, but far enough that he couldn’t hear her footsteps.
~~~
“Sig.”
“Hm? What’s wrong, Klug…?”
“Would you be happier with someone else…?”
“Why, what happened? What’s going on?”
“…You know Amitie likes you, right?”
“Of course I do… I’ve known for a little while…”
“Would you be happier with her…?”
“What did she say to you…?”
“…”
“Klug… please… talk to me…”
“I’m sorry…”
“For what?”
“…it’s clear that she STILL wants you… and… I can’t help but think you’d be happier with her.”
“I wouldn’t. It’s YOU I asked out on Valentine’s Day… I don’t love her that way.”
“…okay…”
“I promise…”
“…okay.”
“I love you…”
“Hm…”
Chapter 10: Trusting You Again
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
The air in the classroom was heavy with tension. Everyone felt it. Amitie wasn’t smiling again.
Several times over the past few days, Amitie has tried to apologise again and again, but to no avail. Klug continued to ignore and avoid her.
Eventually, she reached her boiling point.
Amitie rushed to catch up to Sig as he walked home.
“Sig! Siiig!”
“O-oh! H-hey Ami…”
“Sig, how can I make Klug let me talk to him?!”
“Ami… what did you do…?”
“I was a terrible friend, Sig! I should have been supportive of him, but I treated him awfully! I ignored him, I avoided him, I would glare at him- I’ve been awful! I was blinded by jealously, and I know that now! In a fit of rage, I almost hurt YOU too!”
“What do you mean?”
“Remember when I invited you over for dinner?”
Sig pondered. Did he remember…? Oh yeah! That’s right!
“Yeah? What about it?”
Amitie looked down, closing in on herself.
“I… tried to give you a love potion to make you fall in love with ME…” Sig fell silent. “And I messed things up because I was SELFISH! And I know that now! I know I was awful! I just- I liked you for the longest time and-“
“Stop.”
Panic set in. Amitie looked at Sig, wide eyed. She was so very scared right now. Sig took a step towards her, then another, then another. Now the two stood face to face. Amitie was afraid it was about to get physical, but Sig hugged her.
He hugged her.
She felt like she was about to cry.
“S-Sig?”
“It’s okay, Ami… I understand… I can talk to him for you if you want?”
“I-i dunno… I want- he won’t- ugh…”
“I’ll call him tonight and talk about it, okay?”
“Y-you’d do that…?”
“What are friends for?”
Right. They were friends, especially NOW that Amitie was dating Lidelle.
Amitie wanted to speak, but she wanted to relish in the feeling for a bit longer.
~~~
“Klug, that’s not what happened at all! Amitie told me that she loved me!”
“She’s probably just trying to convince herself that!”
“I know she isn’t!”
“How the hell would you know?!”
“Because I trust her!”
“I trusted her and you saw what happened! She tried to take Sig from me! She won’t stop trying to take away MY happy ending! You’re probably just brainwashed by rose-tinted-glasses!”
Lidelle had no rebuttal for that. She simply fell silent. As did Klug.
They sat in silence.
“She feels awful, you know… she knows she hurt you, and she wants to make it right. Not because of a guilty conscience, because you’re her FRIEND… and she wants to right any wrongs she made… because that’s the person she is…”
Klug pondered Lidelle’s words, looking down at the table.
~~~
It was class again. Accord had asked Sig, Lidelle and Raffina to help her with bringing some things into the classroom. Amitie and Klug were left alone. It was silent. They both wanted to speak, but to no avail.
‘Right,’ Klug thought to himself. ‘No more messing around. I’m going to apologise!’
‘Okay Amitie…’ She said to herself. ‘Maybe that he’s had some time, he might forgive you!’
“Amitie…” Klug said as he turned to her.
“Klug…” Amitie said as she turned to him.
“I’M SORRY!” They both yelled at the same time. They both looked at each other, eyes wide with shock.
“I need to come clean, Klug! I tried to give Sig a love potion so he would love ME! I was upset and jealous, and I hurt you! I didn’t consider how it would affect you, and I’ve been horrible! I’m sorry!”
“I’m sorry I was passive-aggressive! It took a lot of guts to admit you messed up, and I just yelled at you in response! I wanted to hold a grudge, but I can’t do that! You’re my best friend, Amitie, and I can’t stand it not being able to talk to you!”
“Wait… does this mean I’m… forgiven…?”
“If you apologise to Sig personally… I’ll consider it…”
“A-are we… friends again…?”
Klug was quiet. He stood up, beckoning Amitie to join him. She hugged him suddenly, and he hugged her back.
“We aren’t friends again yet… I need a bit of time to trust you again… but… I want to try again…”
“O-okay…” Amitie said with a shaky smile as they both started to cry.
~~~
The sun set over the horizon. Sig and Klug sat together under a cherry blossom tree. Klug rested his head on Sig’s shoulder, smiling as the half demon wrapped an arm around his waist.
It had been about two months since Valentine’s Day, and Amitie and Klug had long since made up.
“I’m super happy for Amitie and Lidelle,” Sig started as he rested his head atop Klug’s. “They’re good for each other…”
“Like us?”
“I guess so… but…”
“But…?”
“It feels like… I was MEANT to be with you, y’know?”
“Y-yeah… I kinda feel that way, too…”
The crickets chirped around them, a few finding their way over to Sig. He smiled as he gave them a little encouraging tap.
“Sig?”
“Yeah?”
“I-… um…”
“What’s up?”
Without warning, Klug kissed Sig, letting out a pleased hum as Sig kissed him back.
“I love you, Sig…”
“I love you too, Klug…”
