A Train Ride Away

Summary:

Deku meets Uravity on Instagram, and from there, Deku learns about Ochako and Uravity learns about Izuku.

Izuku decides he wants to surprise Ochako.

Notes:

There’ll be sggestive jokes, and little implications but nothing crazy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Deku is an online persona, secretive about his personal life. A username derived from years of bullying now the name he’s known for on Twitch. He never reveals much, not his name or age, not what part of Japan he’s from, nothing. Viewers can only guess. He doesn’t worry about hiding his face, because he doesn’t have any friends to pretend they know him. Deku’s plain looking anyway, his only notable feature being his dyed dark green curls.

Ochako watches his streams sometimes, finding his commentary funny. Most of the time, she doesn’t even know what game he’s playing, but it’s funny to watch him make horrible jokes and scream when something scares him. Sometimes his friend Dynamight joins, which never fails to have her in tears (though the swearing skyrockets by at least 90%, and she has to wear earphones).

She followed him on Instagram a year and a half ago, and he followed Uravity back.

Uravity is her online name. She plays games, too, but rarely streams. But mostly, she’s a YouTuber who teaches things like how to build your own PC, or how to build up your own car from scratch. She’s very good with mechanics. Uravity’s built things by hand, with limited tools, setting them to work as if manufactured in a factory. Deku’s been subscribed to her YouTube since she had 1000 subs.

After following each other on Instagram, he took a leap of faith (which is a lot for someone as cowardly as him), and messaged her.

Since then, they’ve become very close. They exchanged personal phone numbers, learned each other’s names, and everything else they hid from the outside world.

3 months ago, she asked (told) Izuku to be her boyfriend and he accepted easily. He won’t admit that her forward proposal was extremely attractive.

Deku spams a bunch of buttons on his keyboard, strings of swears escaping him. Ochako giggles at the sight, her legs pulled up to her chest, and fingers typing away on her laptop beside her monitor.

“Dammit!” he yells, slumping back in his chair. The words GAME OVER laughing back at him. The comments laugh too, having found his panic comedic. “Stop laughing at me, cowards,” he orders, reading the comments, “That was hard.”

Ochako types her own comment.

That’s what she sai— You’re hilarious, Uravity, truly. You make me laugh so unbelievably hard that I can no longer breathe,” he responds with the flattest expression she’s ever seen, which only makes her laugh louder. She makes a mental note to tease him about it later.

And with the mention of her name, comes all his subscribers greeting her. “Stop talking to her, traitors. She smells like butt.”

“I do not!” she yells as if he can hear her. But they all come to her defense. Deku continues reading while starting a new game.

“You’re all simps, you know that?”

Ochako sits back in her chair with a soda, everyone paying attention to his gameplay again.

He cracks his knuckles, “Alright! Now I know this game has jump scares. I should really start reading the game descriptions instead of buying them ‘cause the fucking cover looks cool. I know I usually play horror games with Dynamight, but he’s on vacation and I miss him. My sweet boyfriend, gone like the wind,” he says dramatically. Everyone knows they aren’t actually dating, but they joke about it.

“Also, that rumor that I dropped out of high school is a lie,” he made sure everyone at least knows he’s a minor, “I swear, I go to school sometimes.”

Ochako rolls her eyes. He goes to an extremely prestigious school, that revolves around technology and architecture. He’s actually very well known in that industry for a newbie, Dynamight (who’s name is Katsuki) being just a few steps ahead but attending the same school.

“FUCK!” he suddenly screams, jolting her. He mutters something about his mom killing him for that.

Ochako knows his mom vaguely. They’ve spoken once when he was down in the dumps. Inko explained that he had a tough childhood with all the bullying and his dad’s broken promises, so sometimes he gets really moody. She said he’s prone to depressive episodes. But it hasn’t gotten bad in a while, so it isn’t something to worry about.

“STOP! YOU LOOK LIKE MY FUCKING DEAD GRANDMA!”

Ochako cackles, watching his character get murdered by the zombie-person thing.

Deku slaps his hand on the desk rapidly, holding back endless swears. “I’m done. That’s it. I’m gonna go eat and then shower. I won’t sleep though. I’ll sleep if I die.”

He stays quiet for a moment, staring at the screen.

Ochako lowers her legs and grabs her phone. When he starts his sign off, she clicks his contacts and messages him to FaceTime her when it’s done. She clicks off the stream and stands.

Izuku closes his stream and sighs, picking up his cellphone. He reads over Ochako’s message quickly and stands with a stretch and a groan. He really needs to stop streaming for three hours straight…

With his phone in hand, he flops on his bed and calls his best friend and girlfriend.

She picks up a second later, “What would you do if I suddenly turned shy?”

“Die, probably,” he answers, “I don’t think I can handle being the man of the relationship.”

She sighs, pretending to be disappointed, “Deku could do it…”

Deku would jump into moving traffic for fun.”

“Hot.”

“Not hot, dangerous.” Izuku slaps his phone camera and Ochako pretends he slapped her forehead. “Why would you suddenly turn shy?”

“Dunno. I-I-Izuku, you’re such a b-baka.” Izuku bursts out laughing. “W-wh-why are you laughing at m-m-m-m-me—“ she gasps, “YOU SAID I SMELL LIKE BUTT!”

“I—“ he laughs louder.

“I smell like yummy, thank you very much! Like strawberries and vanilla! I used a strawberry shortcake scented lotion!”

He looks at the screen, amused, “That’s what people who smell like butt say!”

“STAWP! You smell like butt!”

“You have skid marks on your underwear!”

“You don’t wash your ass!”

“Insert insult!”

She gasps again, “Take that back! Take it back, I say! When was the last time you showered?!”

“Two whole days ago!”

Ochako laughs. The sound makes him smile lovingly at her. God, he loves her.

“I showered yesterday,” he tells her, “I was gonna shower after eating but someone is an attention whore.”

“Didn’t you call me at three in the morning ‘cause you were lonely?”

“Exactly. Oh my goodness me, Izuku, do you have a crush on me?!”

Izuku feigns bashfulness, even bringing a blush to his face, “What?! How could you tell?! I thought I hid it well!”

“Hey, Izuku, y’know how your schools like a million hours away from me?”

“Yuh.”

“Good.”

There’s momentary silence. “Okay?”

“Just reminding you. Anyway, where’d Bakugo go?”

“Vacation with Kirishima and crew. His parents let him bring friends with him on a trip to Okinawa.”

“Ah. And you’re a weirdo who hates the beach.”

He chuckles, “Yeah. And I’m going somewhere this week, so I couldn’t go. I was invited and all, just clash of schedules.”

Ochako nods, rolling onto her stomach, “Where’re you going?”

“Dad’s being transferred back here to Japan so…” Izuku sighs, “apartment shopping. We’re moving closer to the school.”

“Oh,” she knows of Izuku’s relationship with his father. It isn’t the worst but it isn’t exactly good. Izuku adores his dad, but that’s where the problem is. His dad always promised to do things with him when he was little but never failed to back out last second. So Izuku doesn’t trust him much. “Are you gonna be okay?”

Izuku nods, “Fine. I stay in my room almost all day anyway, so,” He looks across his room. “Maybe he and I can finish building that stupid PC.”

“You still have it?”

“I don’t have the heart enough to throw it out. Twelve year old me would be very hurt if I did that,”

He continues talking, but lowers his phone to one of Ochako’s personal favorite angles. He’s laying on his back, one hand playing with his curls, the phone held up on his chest. “Izuku.”

“Hm?” Izuku pauses, looking back at his phone. His eyes tend to wander when he rambles.

“You’re so hot.”

“Horny bitch,” he jokes, then sticks his tongue out at her.

She blows him a kiss, “Mwah.”

“Ochako, when we meet one day, could I kiss you?”

“I’d be mad if you didn’t. But I’m the man, so I have to kiss you while you shyly kiss me back with a blush spreading under your skin littered with freckles,” Ochako speaks as if she’s reading it right out a book. He rolls his eyes.

“You wish, lady. I only let you think you run this relationship.”

“What? What was that? Was that a lie?”

“I—“

“Izuku!”

“—am being summoned by my mommy.”

“Okay. I have homework, so.”

“We’ll talk tomorrow, then. Don’t stay up too late,” he sits up.

“You too.”

“I love you, stinky.”

“I love you too, fart face.”

Izuku throws his phone on his bed and heads out his room. “Yeah?”

“We’re leaving an hour earlier than planned, so when you’re done eating, get to packing.”

His heart rate picks up a bit. “Yeah.”

“You excited?”

“Yeah. And nervous,” he sits in front of his mom. “Overthinking, as usual.”

“It’ll be fine, hun.”

“I asked if I can kiss her, just so you know. I don’t need to get beat up by you for doing it without permission.”

Inko flutters her eyes, “I raised you right.”

“You think she’ll be happy?”

“Of course. Izuku, I can tell she really loves you, so stop being a worry wort.”

Ochako skips out her room. She finds her dad and mom whispering to each other in the kitchen. “Ma—“

Her mom yelps, both parents whirling to look at her. “Ocha!”

“Uh… Okay? Can I go out with Tsuyu tomorrow—“

“No!” her dad shouts. Ochako looks between her parents, a little creeped out. “Er.. ahem, no. Not tomorrow. We need you to come with us to pick up a family friend from the train station.”

“Why? Y’all can’t do that on your own?”

Her dad pouts, “Please, Ocha? We’re old and brittle.”

The youngest Uraraka drops her hands to her side, “Fine. Can I go the day after tomorrow?”

Her mom beams, “Maybe.”

____

Izuku couldn’t sleep. That much is evident when he looks in the mirror that morning. Yikes… Eh, she’s seen him in worse condition. On his professional Instagram story, he posts that he won’t be streaming for the week because he won’t be home.

It’s six in the morning. His dad came back home sometime in the middle of the night. But he’s too frazzled about other things to dwell on it.

“How ‘bout you eat your food instead of starin’ at, kid?”

“Leave him be, Hisashi. He’s nervous.”

“We’ve got a long ways to travel today, so it’d be good for you to eat it.”

“Right. Sorry. Just…” he sighs, “overthinking.”

“It’s fine. I’m sure Ochako’ll be super happy to see you— meet you.”

“I’m worried she’ll punch me.”

“…huh?”

“She gets violent when she gets excited.” Izuku shrugs. Not that it’s bad. When she’s excited, she hits the closest thing to her, whether it be a punch or a smack. He finds it amusing, actually.

Izuku managed to contact Ochako’s parents, to set up the whole thing.

Right when Izuku’s about to start eating, his phone goes off in his pocket.

Ochako.

Blast.

“I’ll be right back,” Izuku mutters, jumping from his seat to get to his room. Why is she up so early? “Ochako? Hey, are you okay?”

“Yeah, ‘m fine.”

“You’re up earlier than usual,” he says, “Good morning, by the way.”

“Good morning. I woke up early ‘cause my parents have been acting weird and it’s making me a little anxious.”

Izuku gulps. If he continues like this, he’ll end up telling her or worrying her further. So. He does what he does best when he doesn’t want to give anything away. Deku. “Sus. But you should go back to sleep, I’m sure everything’s fine. Parents are weird like that,” now move the subject away, “my dad came home last night and he’s been like on edge for whatever reason.”

“Oh? Maybe it’s ‘cause you’re tense around him?”

“Not really… I’ve been occupied with other things so I haven’t had enough time to properly ignore him.”

“What other things?”

“School.”

There’s silence on the other end, “Are you okay, Izuku?”

Fuck. “Yeah?”

“You sound like when you’re streaming.”

Double fuck. “Do I? I didn’t even notice. Guess his presence is fucking— I mean, messing me up.”

“See? You’re even swearing! Izuku, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, love, I’m okay. I’ll admit that I’m just a little stressed.”

“You only call me by pet names when you’re hiding something,” she deadpans.

Deku disappears and Izuku comes back full fledge. In his very Izuku-like panic, he hangs up the phone.

Ochako’s jaw drops when she hears the line click. She pulls the phone from her ear and stares at his contact. “Did he just…” He just hung up on her! With no explanation! “He’s hiding something…”

What’s worse is that he doesn’t cal back or message her for the next hour!

Ochako drags her feet when she walks into the living room, pouting and all. She messaged him, asking if he was okay and he left the message on seen.

“What’s up with you, Ocha?” her dad asks, packing them some snacks for the ride over.

“Why’re we going to pick people up if we don’t even have a car?”

He chuckles nervously, “Who knows? They just asked us to come!”

“Who is this family friend, dad?”

“No one you’ll remember. But no one you can forget!”

“Dad.”

“What has you so upset?”

She groans, choosing to give up her interrogation for now, “Izuku’s totally ghosting me.”

“Don’t be dramatic,” he teases.

“I’m not! He’s clearly hiding something from me and he’s obviously feeling guilty about it!” she frowns, “Izuku has never lied to me. When he hides stuff, he usually gives in after, like, five minutes! And most of the time, he just keeps it from me ‘cause he thinks it’s funny when I get irritated! But he’s ignoring me completely now! He hung up the phone on me and then left my messages on read! And he was tryna use his stupid little ‘Deku’ persona on me, then he tried to change the subject and he called me ‘love’! Daddy, he never uses pet names unless he’s trying to keep something from me! But he’s never been so… extra!”

The man she calls her father stares with wide eyes, having never seen her get this worked up.

“Daddy, what if I did something wrong?! What if he doesn’t like me anymore, or… WHAT IF HE FOUND A GIRL WHO LIVES NEAR HIM WHO HE CAN—“

“Ochako. Calm down. It’s probably not that serious. Izuku’s a good kid, he’d die of guilt before he ever did something like that,” he puts a hand on his daughter’s shoulder, “And he loves you very much, I promise. He’d be real stupid to go and lose a girl as amazing as you, ‘kay?”

That does little to alleviate her worries. But she nods anyway, looking down at her feet.

“Go freshen up and get ready. We’ll be leavin’ in an hour.”

Ochako keeps a frown on. Every now and then she checks her phone, and finds no updates from Izuku. But she can see he’s active on social media. She feels like crying, but is it really that big of a deal? What if Ochako cries just to find out it wasn’t that serious and Izuku just didn’t know how to tell her whatever is going on? Maybe he just…

She truly can’t see how any of this can lead to something good. He has never, in their year and a half long friendship and three of those months being together, done something like this.

What if he truly did… not like her anymore? Or found an amazing, beautiful, talented girl who he can physically see and hold and kiss? He is a very emotionally reliant guy, and honestly seems like the type to need physical touch from his partner.

What if she teases him too much? What if he got tired of having a mostly PG relationship with her? The Deku on the livestream always makes some sort of dirty joke. Sometimes he makes them when she’s talking to him on the phone. What if those were all hints that he wanted to do something with her? And on top of that, she adds onto his jokes or makes comments about his appearance but does nothing—

Suddenly, her phone comes to life and her eyes widen.

Izuku 👹: hey, i’m so sorry about earlier. i’ll explain it all later, promise! i love you, ok?

She frowns. No. She isn’t going to give the satisfaction of a quick rep— she likes the message and leaves it at that. He promised to explain, so she has to trust him.

Izuku stares out the train window, earbuds in (playing a playlist he and Ochako made together), hands fidgeting with the strings of his sweats. After his mini panic, he’d forgotten to reply to her message and was so stressed about every other thing that he almost didn’t at all. It wasn’t until her dad texted him, telling that Ochako was driving herself crazy thinking he was going to break up with her or something.

He panicked a bit again, then sent her the most vague message he could, with some reassurance that he does, in fact, love her to hopefully help her relax.

“You good there, kiddo?”

Izuku looks over at his dad in front of him and removes an earbud. “As good as I can be.”

Hisashi used to remember Izuku being more on the confident side. But he got quiet, didn’t express himself much, and always made sure he was in the background. Izuku developed problems with anxiety very early on in his life and eventually diagnosed with depression when he was 10 years old. Hisashi only found out Izuku was being bullied for years when the school couldn’t reach Inko and called him instead.

It was worrying. Especially when it was an emergency call, saying that Izuku had told an adult that he was being suicide baited and couldn’t handle it himself anymore. At 13, Izuku had to swear that he’d never take his own life to multiple police officers, medical staff, his parents, and even a therapist.

He was removed from that school, and two teachers were fired.

Seeing him anxious brings back bad memories.

“Are you… excited?”

He lets out an airy laugh, “Yeah. I can’t wait to see her. I’ve been waiting for a long time for this.”

“So why do you look so down?”

Izuku shrugs, “Keep things about what could go wrong. Ochako’s probably really mad at me right now.”

“She’ll understand when she sees you.”

Izuku’s heart stutters. Sees him. He can’t wait. Two more hours and he’ll finally be able to to hold her.

Hisashi watches Izuku look out the window, with a new smile on his face. Inko smiles contently, and goes back to attempting to sleep.

Ochako huffs, sitting beside her parents on a bench. People bustle on by, meeting with people or rushing to get somewhere. Her dad said the family friend should be there in about twenty minutes. They walked around a shopping strip for a while, ate, and now it’s just left to them waiting. Ochako’s been on her phone for most of the time, trying to distract herself from everything else. At this point, she’s just irritated.

Today would be so much better if she’d just gone out with Tsuyu. Why must she be sitting in a packed train station with her parents? Ochako tries not to think about her little situation with Izuku. He’s been on radio silence again. But she saw that he was listening to their playlist up until about a half hour ago.

“Ochako,” her mom calls. She looks over, a frown in place. “When they get here, we have to help with the bags so we’ll go out onto the platform. Is that okay?”

“Not like I have much of a choice…”

Her mom prays her daughter’s bad mood goes away soon.

“Just try to behave, alright?”

“Mhm.”

Her parents converse with each other, and she catches something about the family friend staying over. And that it’s a dude. Great. Stuck in that small apartment with some guy she probably hasn’t spoken to since she was 8 months old. Ochako rolls her eyes and slumps further into her seat.

“Train’s here!” her dad says, a bit too chipper. Her mom hops up excitedly, and grabs Ochako’s hand to drag her to her feet.

“Come on!”

Ochako grumbles a few protests, her parents not letting her go. “Mom, I can walk on my own—“ people flood the platform by the time they get there. Ochako keeps her glare on her mom’s hand, leaving her parents to find their friend.

“There he is! Oh, he’s so handsome!” her mom says. Okay, maybe I do wanna look

Just as Ochako lifts her head, her dad shoves her forward and her mom lets go of her hand.

“The hell?!”

Her parents are beaming. What the fuck. Ochako, confused, turns back over to attempt to figure out who the hell they’re so excit—

She freezes, jaw dropping instantly. He’s a lot taller than she imagined… he’s helping his mom, who is recognizable from a mile away, put her bag on. She looks so small beside him, a but shorter than his father. They look a lot alike.

But, almost as if he sensed her there, he turns his head and they meet eyes properly for the first time.

Izuku’s practically vibrating in his seat when the train pulls into the station, and he shoots Mr. Uraraka a text that they’re arriving.

“Son, you go out and we’ll handle the bags.”

He whirls around, excitement written all over his features, “Dad, I’m gonna cry!”

“Don’t cry yet! Wait until you get to Ochako.”

“I can’t take it, I’m so nervous! Like, I feel like I’m gonna throw up and cry and laugh at the same time, maybe die in the process!” he says dramatically, waving his hands in front of him as if to emphasize his words. “And my heart feels like it’s metaphorically racing the train to the station!”

Inko chuckles, “Just focus on not tripping as soon as you g—“

“Oh my goodness, what if I do trip?! I’d make a complete fool out of myself! I’d die of embarrassment right there, on the spot—“ he clasps his hands together, “God, please don’t let me trip like a dumbass in front of Ochako and her parents.”

Izuku jolts when the speakers announce that they’ve arrived.

“I can’t do it.”

“Relax, we’re already here, hun.”

Inko and Hisashi stand, “C’mon, kiddo. Wouldn’t wanna keep your girl waiting.”

The three Midoriyas collect their bags and step off the train. As soon as they do, Inko drops her bag and Izuku helps her pick it up and put it back on, the older woman muttering about how clumsy she is.

“Izuku, she’s here.”

Izuku turns his head, where he’d assume they’d be, and makes eye contact with those beautiful brown eyes he loves so much.

Oddly enough, the world seems to grow quiet but also get so much louder. He feels his face muscles pull into a smile, watching her reboot right there, just a few steps away from him.

His dad shoves him by the shoulder, forcing Izuku’s previously glued-to-the-ground feet to stumble in her direction.

And it’s like their brains connect. She starts moving forward, having to move a little faster to match his long strides.

She smiles so brightly, Izuku has to resist the urge to squint. Ochako’s so beautiful.

In no time, they reach each other and she practically jumps him. They’re laughing, ignoring possible stares when he lifts her from her feet. His arms are securely wrapped around her waist, hers around the back of his neck, and now her legs around his waist. She’s hugging him so tightly.

Her breath tickles his neck, sending goosebumps down his neck and arm.

“What are you doing here?”

God, that voice. “Visiting you, dummy.”

“You’re so fucking tall…”

“And you’re not.”

She rips herself from his neck to glare at him, “I can still kick your ass.”

“I just got here and you’re already threatening me? Tsk, tsk, Ochako. Have you no manners?”

He puts her back to to her feet, letting go of her with one arm, and wipes her eyes.

“You had me worried all day.”

“I know, I’m sorry. I was freaking out the whole day.”

Her eyes are so sincere, so happy to be staring at him. Her hands had already found his face, feeling as if to be sure he’s actually there. “This makes up for it, I guess.”

“I’m not gonna get punched?” She answers his question to a punch in the gut. He yelps, the attack not hurting but certainly catching him off guard.

“That was for my own satisfaction.”

“It’s okay, I like getting hit—“

Ochako smacks his shoulder, “Hush, you idiot! You can’t say that out loud!”

He chuckles, “I’m gonna kiss you now.”

“Fine,” she says, pretending to be bothered, “if you insist.”

Ochako doesn’t resist when he places his hands on her cheeks, and presses the softest kiss on her lips she has ever felt.

(This marks her first kiss. Ever. So. Yeah, that checks out.)

It’s nothing more than a lips touching for three seconds, but it means everything to her. It confirms just how much she loves Izuku.

When their eyes meet again, Ochako feels like brilliant color of his green eyes knocks the wind out of her. Such a beautiful color, so filled with affection. A warmth she’s certain he has reserved for her and her only.

Even when they’re staring at each other on the phone, he looks at her like she’s his most prized possession.

“Oh my goodness, do you have a crush on me, Ochako?”

“That much is obvious.”

Izuku was told by the Urarakas that he would be staying the over for the week. He didn’t expect them to be so… chill. Don’t get him wrong, he’s more than happy to spend as much time with Ochako as possible, but he’d also be okay with staying at the hotel with his parents.

But Ochako doesn’t let them argue about it before dragging him to her room.

“Hey now, I’m all for living on the edge but our parents are in the next room,” Izuku jokes after she pushes him onto her bed. Ochako ignores him, kissing him more aggressively than their first one earlier. Izuku kisses her back with just as much desperation to be as close as possible. She continues to push him until he’s flat on the mattress and she’s sitting over him, legs on either side of him.

Ochako hums and he nips at her bottom lip with his teeth, urging her to do it again. She does, and he sinks into her touch, pleased.

“Someone’s needy,” he teases, adjusting her so he can kiss her cheek and neck. Ochako complies.

“Izuku,” she wants to say she’s missed him, but how can she miss someone she never met until then?

“Hmm?”

She gasps quietly. His right hand travelled down to the small of her back and brought her down to press against his body. They’re now chest to chest, much to Izuku’s pleasure.

“I- Fuck…”

He smiles as if he’d just completed a life goal. “Ha!”

Now on alert, Ochako sits up, “What?”

“You’re so weak against me. I told you I only let you think you’re in charge.”

“Excuse you, mister, I’m the man here.”

“That’s what you think. But when push comes to shove, you can’t do shit. ‘Cause you’re a weak little—“ he yelps, Ochako’s hips grinding down on him. She laughs while he jets to sit up, throwing her back onto the mattress. Izuku mutters a few swears. “You’re insane. Crazy. Psychotic.”

“D’ya have to use the bathroom now, sweetie?” she teases. He pauses, thinking.

She laughs when he stands, “I fucking hate you.”

“I’m the weak one, though, right?”

“I’m gonna call your dad on you.” He sits on her desk chair. “Loser.”

“That’s so disrespectful. I cannot believe your own girlfriend couldn’t turn you on.”

“Have you no fear?”

“Nope. Just wait ‘til my parents go to work tomorrow.”

“God, this is not my fault. Cleanse my ears of this girl’s words. I swear I’m not thinking about anything inappropriate.”

Ochako lays on her stomach, swinging her legs back and forth, “Weren’t you going apartment shopping?”

“My parents are, I’m not. I opted to stay around until break’s over.”

She eyes him. “Come back here, I wanna cuddle you like a big baby!”

“No, you’re dangerous.”

“You look sleepy, though! Can we take a nap? Pretty please? I’ve been wanting to for forever!”

“What an odd request,” he tuts rolling the chair over, “Of all things, you wanted to take a nap?”

“Well, we do all the time on FaceTime. I wanna nap with you now, ‘cause you’re here. Maybe our brains will connect telepathically and we’ll see each other in our dream worlds.”

Izuku chuckles, getting back into the bed with her. She rolls onto her side and they face each other, just a few inches apart.

“Have I ever told you that I think you’re really handsome?”

“I’m pretty sure you’ve said I’m attractive in every single way except for that.”

“Well, you are. And I don’t like how tall you are, either.”

“I’ve told you I’m 5’10” like a hundred times, Ochako.”

“I didn’t expect all this! I’m only 5’4”! And you’re still growing, which isn’t fair at all!”

“It’s totally fair, I’m your hot, talk boyfriend who everyone can envy. I’ll probably be 6’ by next year.”

The continue arguing over height, but they eventually grow quiet. Izuku’s eyes are shut. She’s been playing with his hand, which is bigger than she would’ve thought. She compared them. Her hand is so much smaller. Ochako traces his scars. He’d gotten into a bad accident a few years ago, and he lost all functionality in his arm for two months and had to relearn how to do everything.

“I love you, Izuku.”

He hums after a second, and opens his eyes again, “I love you too, Ochako.”

“Thanks for coming to visit. As weird as it is, I feel like I’ve missed you a lot. Even though we hadn’t technically met.”

“It’s not weird. I feel the same way.”

“You do?”

“Mhm,” he nods slowly, “That’s why I decided to surprise you. Not being able to touch you was driving me crazy.”

“Will you be okay when you go back?”

Izuku nods, “I think. But I’ll have to visit more often.”

“I’d have to visit you, too.”

“I’d like that…” he whispers, eyes falling closed again. She smiles, feeling his hand slide down to hook his arm around her waist and draw her closer.

He breathes in her scent and smiles to himself. Strawberry and vanilla.
