Peggy was trying to decide which shoes would go best with her new shirt when she heard Daniel shriek. She dropped her blue flats onto the bed, jogging to the kitchen.
"Daniel? Are you alright?"
She found him backing slowly into a corner, a terrified expression on his face.
"Oh Peggy thank god," he breathed, pointing with his crutch at a spot in front of the sink. "Help me please."
There was a scorpion on the floor, black scales shining in the midday sunlight. It was scuttling back and forth, like it was getting it's bearings.
"I was just looking for the dish soap when it jumped out of the cabinet."
"The scorpion?"
Daniel's face tensed when it started moving towards him. "Yes. The scorpion. Can you please make it go away?"
"Daniel, darling, you've held your own against a red room operative, outsmarted a hypnotist and volunteered yourself to a possible suicide mission but a scorpion is crossing some sort of line for you?"
"Well love, last time I checked Dottie didn't have pincers and a poison stinger," he countered. "Please?"
Peggy tiptoed up behind the scorpion and, fast as she could, pinched the end of its tail. She lifted it up off the ground and quickly dropped it out of the open front window.
She heard the sigh that escaped Daniel from the other side of the room.
"Thank you, my knight in shining armour," he whispered, striding over to check the patio below the window.
Peggy watched as he stared down the retreating arachnid, shaking her head a little. "I still have no idea how I'm attracted to you."
Daniel wrapped an arm around her waist, leaning in to kiss her cheek. "Yeah, well, you're stuck with me now. No take backs honey."
