Heroes Should Get to Look Pretty Too

Summary:

ShinDeku Fluff Week 2021 – prompts: wearing aesthetic outfits

Notes:

My third contribution for koogi123’s ShinDeku Fluff Week. This was a prompt I struggled with for a bit. I’m not sure what counts as aesthetics and I’m also not one to describe outfits much in general. I hope you still like this. I think it’s fluffier then my first two shortshots 0:)

Heroes Should Get to Look Pretty Too

Izuku was nervous. Well, he was nervous quite often, so it wasn’t really new to his classmates, but today was different. Because Izuku had gotten a special task from their homeroom teacher Power Loader. Izuku had been asked to design a hero outfit for one of the students who transferred from Gen Ed to Heroics. Designing a complete costume was big, especially for Support students, a chance one didn’t get too often. Mostly because a transfer itself was rare and then, most hero students already had their own plans and ideas for their costumes. They mostly came for smaller changes during their education phase. So nobody blamed Izuku when he was basically running on coffee and nerves that morning, preparing everything for the presentation.

The student in question was Shinsou Hitoshi (who had yet to come up with a hero name). He would come down to the Support class and see what Izuku had to offer during break time that day. He had gotten third place during the sport’s festival and had impressed everyone with his abilities. Izuku had watched him too, fascinated by Shinsou’s quirk and how he used it. There were so many questions he would like to ask, some of them might even cause changes in the costume… but their first meeting when Izuku had asked Shinsou a few questions about what the other would want for a costume (like, something flashy or rather mute colors, something for spotlight or underground hero work and so on), the other student hadn’t said much and when Izuku had asked questions about Shinsou’s quirk, the other had shut up completely. Which, okay. Izuku had heard how the others talked about his quirk, but Izuku was a support student! If one couldn’t talk about their quirk with him, then where and to whom else?

“Izuku, you did everything you could. Just wait for him to come and then you can take it from there,” Mei said, trying to calm him, but Izuku just kept bouncing in place, eyes fixed on the door. And then… then Shinsou arrived. The purplette peeked into the room and when his eyes found Izuku, he came inside. Mei gave Izuku one last encouraging pat on his shoulder before leaving the two of them alone. Taking a deep breath, Izuku tried to calm down. The waiting part was over. Now he would get to present his work. And if Shinsou didn’t like it, he would just change what he didn’t like or start over. No problem. He could do this.

“Hello Shinsou-kun,” Izuku said and smiled at the other, trying to ease the tension between them.
“… Hello,” Shinsou said, eyeing him but not saying much. Right, the purplette wasn’t a big talker.
“I’ve finished your costume. Well, the design I came up with. I tried to make something discreet since you said you wanted to go underground. So what you see here…”

And like that, Izuku fell into his natural habit, talking on and on about each and every detail he had added to the costume lying on the table in front of them. The base was a tight black one-piece suit where Izuku had added some dark purple highlights to to compliment Shinsou’s hair and body shape. He liked to think it would made movements look more fluent, but he would have to wait for a reality check when Shinsou would first wear it. There was also a hood on it for rainy days, dark purple pockets for first aid supplies, snacks or whatever else Shinsou would want to take with him. The black combat boots had purple shoelaces on them. And then there were the mask with the artificial vocal cords and the capture weapon. Izuku had tried his best to make the mask as different from a muzzle as possible (this had been one of the few requests Shinsou had voiced and Izuku had tried to hide how bad this information had made him feel) and had dyed the capture weapon purple and black to make it look more different from the one Eraserhead was using.

“… yeah, and that’s basically it,” Izuku finished, swallowing nervously. “I tried to make it look good but not too flashy. If you want, you can try it on. Or you can just tell me what you don’t like. It’s no trouble to change anything, really! I-”
“Izuku.”
The use of Izuku’s first name caught him off guard and Izuku blinked, words dying on his tongue. Looking up at Shinsou, Izuku’s green eyes widened at the sight. Shinsou looked totally awed, his eyes fixed on the costume, his mouth a little open. This was… good, right? It must mean he liked it?
“I love it,” Shinsou said quietly, answering Izuku’s muttered question. And before Izuku could feel embarrassed for having talked without noticing once again, Shinsou looked at him and smiled such a happy smile, Izuku felt himself melt inside.
“It’s perfect, really. Thank you.”
“Y-you’re welcome, Shin-”
“Call me Hitoshi,” Shin- no Hitoshi interrupted, giving Izuku another shy smile while scratching the back of his head.
“Alright, Hitoshi,” Izuku said, smiling back. His whole body was filled with an excited buzzing, not from nerves this time but from how proud and happy he was. Hitoshi liked his costume design, he had said he loved it. Izuku had done a new job and if he hadn’t misread the situation, it seemed like he had gained a new friend in Hitoshi along the way as well.

*End!*

Notes:

Thanks for reading, I hope you liked my third fic for the ShinDeku Fluff Week. It’s not exactly ‘wearing’ an aesthetic outfit, but… yeah. Feel free to leave me some feedback :3
