I love this ship so much and the lack of content is disappointing to me. So I wrote this

Bzzt

The noise stirred Devon a little, but he shrugged it off and decided to try to go back to sleep.

Bzzt

Who would be texting me in the middle of the night? Devon wondered. Is it Jake? Lexi? Did something happen?

Bzzt

Now he was feeling a bit more awake. He rolled over and looked at his phone, which was sitting on his desk. The screen was illuminated.

Groggily, Devon walked over to his desk and picked up the phone. The first thing he noticed was that it was past two in the morning. The second thing he noticed was three text messages from Jake.

Jake….

A smile took over Devon’s face at the thought of his new boyfriend. He thought about how they got together. And how awkward the kiss was since they were both still on their bikes. But it was still sweet.

Devon shook the thought away and focused on the messages before him.

“Hey”

“You awake?”

“What am I saying? You’re probably not”

Devon chuckled a little and responded.

“No, I’m awake”

“What’s up?”

“It’s nothing that important. Sorry for bothering you”

“It’s not a bother. Come on, Jake. What is it?”

“Did something happen?”

“Sort of…”

That set Devon on edge. “What happened?” He held his breath as he waited for a response. Please be okay. he silently prayed.

“I just had a nightmare. Silly, I know”

“I don’t think it’s silly”

A mischievous smirk grew on Devon’s face as an idea struck him. “Wait right there”

“… why?”

“:)”

“Devon!”

Devon didn’t respond. Instead, he went to his closet to grab a hoodie.

Meanwhile, at the Wheeler house, Jake stared at his phone. Why wasn’t Devon answering? Was he planning something? That smiley face clearly indicated he was up to something.

Several minutes went by and there was still no response.

This only caused Jake’s anxiety to grow.

Please be okay! Chucky, you better not have gotten to him!

At that moment, his phone buzzed. Hastily, he snatched it.

“Come to the front door”

Confused, but having a hunch, Jake climbed out of bed and quietly made his way to the front door. Careful not to wake the rest of the family, he slowly opened it.

Sure enough, there stood Devon.

“What are you doing here?” Jake whispered.

“I came to make sure you were okay,” Devon simply replied.

Jake sighed. “Okay. Come on in.”

Devon happily walked in, Jake closing the door behind him. “Let’s head to my room,” Jake offered.

Devon nodded in agreement and the two crept back upstairs.

Once in the safety of Jake’s room, they decided to resume their conversation.

“So … are you okay?” Devon gently asked. The two of them were now sitting on his bed.

Jake slowly nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just a little shaken up.”

“Do you want to talk about it?” Devon offered. 

“It’s just…” Jake started. “knowing Chucky’s out there somewhere. It’s keeping me on edge. I,um … had a dream he got you.” His voice started to shake. “I … I tried to talk him out of it, but he didn’t listen. He-“ Jake wiped the tears that formed. “He killed you right in front of me. It felt so real. I care about you, Devon. I don’t want anything happening to you.”

“Jake,” Devon said softly, pulling him into a hug. “Don’t worry, okay? We’re in this together. We’ll find him. I’m not gonna let him hurt you.”

“And I’m not gonna let him hurt you, either,” Jake sniffed, hugging back tightly.

“Here, lay back down,” Devon instructed.

Jake obliged and Devon laid down beside him, pulling the blankets over them. Devon resumed holding Jake close. The latter rested his head against his boyfriend’s chest. The sound of his heartbeat relaxed him, assuring him he is very much alive and here.

“I love you, Devon,” Jake murmured. Then he completely tensed up. That was the first time he said that aloud. He felt his face get warm.

“I love you, too, Jake,” Devon responded.

Jake looked up at him and smiled. “Our first ‘I love you’s.”

Devon chuckled a little and leaned in.

Jake happily leaned in and sealed the gap between them, sharing a small kiss.

When they parted, they continued to cuddle, providing a feeling of protection, warmth, and love.

They knew these were some crazy times. But as long as they stuck together, everything was going to be okay.
