Christmas Cookies

Summary:

“Good morning! Come here!”

Yunho smiled at his boyfriends enthusiasm. He pushed off the wall, taking the few steps to his boyfriend. Wooyoung’s hands immediately went to Yunho’s hips, tugging him closer and tilting his head up, waiting. Yunho leaned in, connecting their lips, hand going to the back of Wooyoung’s head. He smiled into the kiss before pulling away, long fingers brushing against the tattoo he recently got at the base of his neck.

“What are you doing up so early?”

Wooyoung surged forward again, getting on his toes to kiss Yunho again before dropping to his regular height. He took a step out of Yunho’s hold, swinging his arm around and motioning to the mess he had going on, “I’m making Christmas cookies!”

Notes:

Shoutout to Em talking about Yunwoo baking cookies together and I'm too soft to not make it happen

Work Text:

Yunho thought it was nice of his job to give him the week off, but what he didn’t think was nice, was his inner clock waking him up earlier than he should be on a day off. It’s chilly and he wanted nothing more than to cuddle his boyfriend, but when he rolled over, Wooyoung’s side of the bed was empty. And cold. He frowned, cracking his eyes open to see if Wooyoung was in the room at all.

After forcing himself out of bed, he wandered out to the living room. The TV was playing soft Christmas music and he could hear movement in the kitchen. He peeked in, leaning against the door hinge and watching Wooyoung in his element. He was standing at the counter, a pair of sweatpants and one of Yunho’s shirts on and an apron tied on over it, as he rolled out some dough. Yunho squinted at the time on the stove. 8 AM. Why was his boyfriend awake and making what looked like cookies at 8 AM?

“Morning, handsome.”

Wooyoung turned quickly.

“Oh? Why so early?”

“My mom asked me to and I forgot.”

“Wooyoung -“

“In my defense my head was so full of finals I just forgot!”

Yunho nodded in understanding. It was their first year of finals and it had taken a toll on them all. He and Wooyoung live together, but they’ve barely seen each other the past few weeks. They were always busy studying, but he’s glad it’s going to be just him and Wooyoung, and his family, for the next week.

“Let me help you?”

Wooyoung brightened up, “do you know how to decorate cookies?”

“No, but how hard could it be?”

Yunho learned fairly quickly that decorating cookies wasn’t as easy as the internet, or Wooyoung, made it look. Wooyoung had worked his way through half his snowmen cookies already, each looking better than the last. Meanwhile, Yunho took so long working on just one Christmas tree. Wooyoung would glance over every few seconds and compliment his work, but his lines weren’t as nice as Wooyoung’s and the detail of the small ornaments weren’t very good. It was fun, nonetheless. Wooyoung looked happy to be doing this together, and that’s all that matters.

Yunho set his tube of color down, leaning back in the chair and watching his boyfriend work. “You’re really good at this.”

Wooyoung looked over at Yunho before looking at the cookies he had done. He smiled at him, “Yours look good.”

“Not as good as yours.”

“I’ve been doing this for years. But for your first time, you didn’t do bad. I’d eat them.” Wooyoung said while his hands continued with decorating his own. “But, if you’d rather start cutting the next batch, I’d appreciate you lots.”

Yunho leaned over, kissing Wooyoung’s cheek before standing and heading to the counter where Wooyoung had left the last of the dough. “I’ve got you. What are we thinking? More trees or snowman? What about candy canes?”

Wooyoung was silent, pausing his motions to look at the scattered cookies, “Candy canes? We barely have any.”

“Candy canes it is.”

The room fell silent with the exception of the TV still playing music and Wooyoung softly humming along with it. Yunho worked on cutting some more cookies out and spread them evenly across a pan before sliding it into the oven and asking Wooyoung how long to cook them for.

He walked back to Wooyoung, hands on his shoulders as he worked. “How many people will be there?”

Wooyoung set his utensils down, closing his eyes and leaning his head back against Yunho as the other massaged his shoulders. “Mine, San and Yeosang’s family. Jongho after his family celebrates, and you. So, fourteen? Thirteen technically, I guess. San’s niece can’t eat the food yet. Is Mingi coming?”

“I think so? He said he’s going to try and get there, but he wants to spend time with his mom.”

“That’s fair. He could always bring her.”

Yunho laughed, squeezing Wooyoung’s shoulders one last time before sitting back next to him. “I’ll let him know. Won’t your family be upset by it?”

“Nah,” wooyoung waved his hand around before picking his piping back up, “my family has always been big on the whole ‘the more the merrier’ thing. My mom loves inviting everyone over. What does your family do for the holidays?”

Wooyoung finished his last cookie, only realizing Yunho hadn’t answered. It wasn’t often his boyfriend was quiet, but when he was, Wooyoung would worry. He looked over at him, panicking slightly when he saw the frown set on his face. It wasn’t a secret to anyone that Yunho didn’t talk much about his family, and Wooyoung wasn’t one to pry. If Yunho wanted to talk about it, he would. All he knows is that the relationship itself isn’t strained, but it’s also not the best.

“Not much. My dad rarely takes work off for any holiday, not even his anniversary. My mom will usually invite her friends over and spend all her time with them, so I’d take Gunho out to a movie and to any open restaurant and spend time away from the house.

Wooyoung frowned. “That’s so sad. You never get to spend family time?” Yunho nodded. “What’s Gunho doing for Christmas then?”

Yunho looked sad and Wooyoung was ready to do whatever he asked to make him smile. “I don’t know. That’s half the reason why I was hesitant on on spending Christmas at your parents.”

Wooyoung only thought on it for a moment before nodding. “Let’s go get him. He can spend Christmas with us.”

“Woo, we don’t have to do that.”

“Too late. I’ve already made up my mind. After those cookies are done, we’ll pack everything up, load up the car, and head to your house to get him. He can be Kyungmin’s partner in crime!”

Yunho watched as Wooyoung stood, rushing to the kitchen and digging through one of the lower cabinets for some containers. Wooyoung is thoughtful, he always knew that. He’d always put everyone above himself, going so far out of his way for the people he cares about. It shows his character. Yunho grabbed stood, stopping Wooyoung when he went to walk past, cupping his face before leaning down to press his lips to the others. He mumbled a soft ‘I love you’ against his lips, Wooyoung smiling and returning it before pushing himself away from Yunho and telling him to get ready.
