Apotheosis

Chapter 32: Author's Note

Chapter Text

Thank you to everyone who took the chance to read Apotheosis, a fic I started on a whim during a resurgence of content for TVD/TO fandom. It was written with several small goals in mind: fast-burn romance, emphasis on werewolves and hybrids, and lastly that the Reader/OC would become Hope’s mother. I was also determined to create a world where my favorite characters got all of the very nice things they deserved, which led to an unprecedented war on canon that would span 30 chapters worth of content.

Writing this fic has been as much of a delight for me as the author as I hope it was for you, the readers. Each new chapter I wrote focused on a small goal that lead to several small arcs within the fic, and together would (hopefully) weave together to form the overarching plot.

Writing has never been easy for me; I’ve always struggled with self-discipline and being able to see things through to the end. The process for Apotheosis was unlike anything I’ve ever tried before, and the best part is, it worked. It may seem silly, but to me this is a huge personal accomplishment and I can’t thank those of you who are reading this fic right now for being part of that.

I appreciate every hit, every kudos, every bookmark, and every single comment that has been left here.

While writing Apotheosis, I was able to identify key parts of my writing style that I’ve never gotten to see before. It’s about more than just indulging in fandom and giving the love to my favorite characters I felt they were robbed of. Somewhere along the way this fic also became a personal journey; it allowed me to process through a lot of things I’ve struggled with due to mental health issues.

Contrary to that, there are some parts of this fic that are a love letter to many of the things I adore.

For everyone that ever gave this fic a chance, thank you. This fic took a lot of concepts such as black versus white and the muddied shades of grey in between. It made bad guys not so bad and good guys not so good. It embraced the perspective of its main character(s) to set a narrative that is much, much different than anything existing in TVD/TO previously.

This fic let go of dichotomies like good versus evil to embrace order versus chaos. We embraced concepts such as doing good things can be bad, but also doing bad things can be good. We also took a look at topics such as mental health and the lasting effects they can have on a person, and these themes will continue to be similarly explored going forward into the sequel.

This fic is far from perfect. It has tons of errors, there’s likely plot holes, and there may even be tonal shifts where you can tell I struggled as a writer and even changed my mind. The characters and their relationships aren’t bastions of excellence, and for all my personal issues with TVD/TO canon, the storyline and my twist on events certainly isn’t either.

In the end these flaws emphasize the themes about people just trying to do their best with what they’ve been given, and these themes will continue to be explored in the up-coming sequel that is tentatively untitled at this time. Ending Apotheosis with the conclusion of their time in Mystic Falls just felt right so we could continue on to the next part of the story, much like how TO spun off of TVD.

So, for those that may find these themes triggering or uninteresting, please consider this your warning that we will be going forward with my intentions to make Reader/OC Hope’s mother in the sequel.

I look forward to seeing you all again after the new year. To those celebrating the holidays, I send all my love and well-wishes for you and yours. Happy Holidays!

Until then, THANK YOU. Every single one of you.
