Quarantine with the JNPR polysquare

Summary:

The JNbugs are stuck in quarantine now, and can't do any of the stuff they used to do. This story will alternate between viewpoints, and I don't completely know what it'll be about or when it'll end. What I do know is that I'm gonna be making separate ones for the other teams, probably with different ships besides just all Polysquare, and I'll try to make uploads as frequent as possible.

Chapter 1: Before the Storm

Chapter Text

Lie Ren couldn't sleep.

This wasn't exactly something that was uncommon, of course. As they felt Jaune Arc's hands clutch their waist, his toned chest and stomach pressing against their noticeably skinnier back, a sigh left them as they moved to get up. Rubbing their eyes as they lifted themselves out of the bed that they shared with the Arc boy. Turning their head back momentarily, they watched him mumble and grasp at nothing until finally settling down as his hands went limp. Ren turned themselves back towards the doorframe and went down to the kitchen of the four's shared apartment.

This wasn't always their sleeping situation. Ren and Jaune used to share a room with their other partners, Nora and Pyrrha, but that didn't work out. In no small part because Pyrrha had a habit of tossing and turning, and Nora was a famous snorer. Well, not famous in the good sense, famous in the sense that if she rolled over on her front, the pure sound waves would reduce the bedspread to powder. She and Pyrrha didn't seem to have any trouble sleeping in the same room, and for a moment, Ren thought that they cancelled each other out.

Another moment brought forth the realization that that didn't make any sense.

As they approached the kitchen, they noticed that someone had turned on a few of the lights. Squinting in an attempt to make out who it was, Ren realized who it was upon the distinguishing of a high-pitched humming of a song he didn't know, a tuft of bright red hair, and green eyes shining through the mostly dark kitchen. She appeared to be holding something in her arms. The fact that Pyrrha looked absolutely adorable in this lighting brought on a smile from Ren, though they'd be sure to tell her that later. Or, Nora would. Ren wasn't much of a talker, even when it came to their partners. Although in this case, they'd kind of have to be. Ren cleared their throat.

"Hi, Py-"

A gasp left the Nikos girl's throat as the bowl she has been holding began it's quick descent to the floor. Luckily, her hands were quicker, grabbing the edges of the bowl and holding it up. Ren proceeded to assist her by lifting the bowl from the bottom and ensure it was secure on the counter. The two seemed lost for words for a moment before Ren chose to speak up. "Sorry for scaring you like that." He said, a bit of relief coating his voice. Pyrrha laughed. The laugh was short and sweet, a bit of a mix between that and a giggle. She was clearly still recovering from the startle the scare had given her, and her hands shook a little as she responded. "No problem, Ren. You couldn't sleep either?" Ren shook their head. "No." They looked away for a moment as Pyrrha posed a question. "Nora and I didn't wake you from our room, did we?" This confused Ren, as the two of them hadn't made a sound. Perhaps not even they were aware of the effect they seemed to have on each other, or Pyrrha was just messing with them.

"No, just...something with me, I guess."

They walked over to the cabinet, slowly opening it to reveal the melatonin chewables. "Why were you up?" Pyrrha sighed. "Just felt a little hungry, didn't want to wake anyone." Ren's eyes dashes to the bowl of cereal sitting on the table, that they had almost accidentally reduced to a mess. "Pyrrha, I love you, but please tell me you put the cereal in first." Pyrrha nodded. "Good. Only one person I know does that. I think she's that woman who moved in across the hall...Sunder? I don't know." They confessed as they popped one of the chewables into their mouth. "Do you have any intention of going back to sleep?" Pyrrha responded a bit more vocally this time. "No. I mean, maybe. Once I'm not hungry anymore. I won't have to worry about waking Nora." "You have more to worry about her waking you." Ren said with their usual deadpan expression. "I'm going back to bed now." They walked over to the doorframe, but on the way gave Pyrrha a little kiss on the cheek. "Goodnight, Paladin." They said on their way out, causing Pyrrha to blush a bit, and almost lose her grip on her cereal.

Ren made their way out of the kitchen, and past their snoring partner in the other room, to find an awake Jaune scrolling through his phone. Ren sighed, walking over to the spot next to their partner and placing themselves down. "Jaune, it's late. You should be asleep." Jaune merely handed him his phone, asking one question. "What's COVID?"

Ren's eyes shot wide. They immediately knew the answer.

They weren't going to be leaving for work tomorrow. None of them were.

Chapter Text

The morning came in an instant, with Jaune waking up and not being nearly prepared for the bright light that streamed in through the window, practically aiming for his eyes. He couldn't help but squint at the furiously bright light, especially considering how they'd been squeezed closed all night. Looking around him, he realized Ren was absent, and upon looking down the hall, he saw Nora and Pyrrha's rooms wide open. He sighed. Last one awake. Again.

Making his way to the kitchen, a smell tickled Jaune's nose, one that he immediately recognized. Ren's pancakes, he thought as his movements unconsciously hurried. Ren's pancakes were always a delight, and be as it may, Jaune never found himself able to say no to them.

Jaune realized that if Yang were here, she'd be making a butt joke. He decided to ignore that.

Entering the kitchen, his eyes wide, he saw at the stove not Ren, but…

Oh lord it was Nora.

Nora heard the footsteps and her head immediately did a 180. Dashing away from the stove, her arms were wrapped around Jaune's chest in an instant. "JAUNEY!" she yelled, squeezing him tight, and making him miss the sweet relief of air more and more every passing second. Nora seemed to realize how tight she was squeezing him, as after a few minutes she let go of her taller partner, allowing him to catch his breath. Turning back to her pancakes at the stove, she whistled a tune as she managed to divide her attention between talking to Jaune and cooking the pancakes. "Soo, how'd you sleep?" Jaune groaned as he sat at the table. "Pretty good, considering the world shut down two days ago." Leaning back in the chair the slightest bit, he palmed at his pocket searching for his scroll before he remembered this onesie didn't even have pockets.

He decided to shrug it off, with mere minutes passing before Nora skipped back to the table with pancakes ready. "Order uuuuup!" She said with her usual smile on her face. Jaune couldn't help but smile at his partner's joyful attitude and prowess in the kitchen. Although he had to wonder, wasn't Ren usually the cook? Nora seemed to read his mind, and answered for him. "Renny was asleep when I woke up, and you know he was too cute to wake, so I let him rest!" Jaune had to admit that Ren was adorable when he was asleep, but Nora wasn't always to be trusted in the kitchen. However, it seemed she did...actually pretty well. Taking a bite of the pancakes, Jaune noticed that they tasted as good as usual, but there was something...off. Slowly and carefully, Jaune turned his head towards his partner and asked "Nora, did you put anything else in here?" "No! No!" She quickly responded with her hands raised, and Jaune went back to eating.

"Besides a bit of protein powder."

Jaune stopped eating and slowly looked up at his girlfriend with a simple "How." "It's simple, silly! I just mixed some in with the flour! Gotta keep those abs I love so much, don'tcha?" Jaune inhaled very slowly, exhaling immediately after. "Nora, I know this can really only help, but for future reference, please don't put white powdery stuff in food unless it has to go in."

"What about powdered sugar?"

"In, not on."

"Phooey."

Nora pouted as Jaune finished his pancakes, which he had somehow managed to do between his scolding of Nora and commentary on how the pancakes tasted. Nora walked up to Jaune and proceeded to hug him so hard he was worried she'd give his ribs a complementary loosening, before skipping back to the kitchen to clean up her pancake stuff. Random hugs seemed to be her new thing. Good for her, but chiropractic for everyone else. Jaune exhaled softly. "By the way, where'd Ren go after they woke up?" Nora turned to him. "They and Pyrrha are downstairs. They finally decided to follow my workout routine!" She said, beaming brightly. "I haven't heard them breathing down there, so it's probably effortless for them too!" Jaune, raising an eyebrow, went downstairs to investigate.

There, he found Ren and Pyrrha under a blanket, watching a video on Pyrrha's scroll. Jaune opened his mouth as if to say something, but Ren answered him before he could ask. "We had to give up after the second set of 50 push-ups. My arms are jelly. Boneless jelly." Jaune didn't have the braincells to question that sentence right now. Shrugging, he went back upstairs. "Hard at work, Nora." He could hear her giggle giddily.

Normally, most of them would be gone by now. Ren would be at the flower shop, Nora would be either helping him or at the gym, and Pyrrha would be asleep right now. But today, they were all at home. That was...nice.

He liked having them all around. They were his partners, after all, and while he accepted they had lives without him, he couldn't help but feel...ignored, as he didn't really have anything going on. He sighed solemnly as he walked upstairs, mentally repeating what he'd told himself since he started feeling this way.

It's nothing.

It's all in your head.

You shouldn't bother the others with this.

They were happy.

That was all Jaune needed.

Notes:

I swear, I'll add more domestic fluff in the next chapter, which will focus on Nora. I'm planning on alternating between the focuses if I can. Also, next chapter should only be maaaaaybe a week away? I don't know really.

Notes:

That ended more threateningly than it should have

Anyway, thank you for reading! Part 2 should come out within a week so if it isn't out by then please feel free to spam my comments my work ethic is middling at best. Also, I tagged so many other characters because I plan to have at least some of them cameo.
