Chapter 1: Billy Cranston x Skull

Summary:

Chapter Text

What’s one way their personalities compliment one another? (Is it opposites attract or are they pretty similar?)

Regardless of what the both of them seem to think, as they'd had very similar tastes and knowing and experiences before they departed from the other's gravitational pull just before they hit puberty, they're actually more similar than not.

True, Billy is a genius in more forms of science, math, and technology, with high grades and high expectations to show for it; but Skull has a brightly glowing flame of knowing and ability when it comes to music, craft, and survival.

They both get very caught up in being needed, and both sometimes shut down when there's too much stress placed on them, but they experience it in different ways.

Plus, they're both somewhere on the undiagnosed autism spectrum, so there's that.

Who is always cold?

Skull. An absolute retched fact of his miserable childhood was that he was consistently underfed, which meant that he never really had enough to develop fat to pad the muscle he would eventually get as a teenager living in Angel Grove after Rita Repulsa and the Power Rangers became a thing.

After all--and Billy sometimes felt incredibly stupid for not realizing sooner--who wears a thick, vintage, leather jacket all year round in California? Even in summer?

(Billy often tries to rectify his ignorance by trying to fatten Skull up on whatever the fuck he loves to eat when they have takeout or go dining in restaurants, but no sale; Skull has an extremely high metabolism. Billy could fill him with five turkeys, a whole roasted boar, a mountain of chocolate, and every avocado in the world and Skull would barely gain five pounds.

So Billy usually has to settle for wrapping around him and holding his hand and raising his temperature with as many neck kisses on a day to day basis as he can.)

What are some non-sexual activities they do together?

Well, when they were small humans and society and their own personalities didn't get in the way, it was playing pirates wherever it was most convenient, reading short novels and comics with each other, playing video games that were approved of by the Cranston parents, wandering around the backwoods behind Skull's house near the river--and sometimes walking through the old tunnels that river flowed through at a trickle to test their bravery in different ways.

As they got older and Skull figured out Billy's big Blue secret, and started what they would call renewing their friendship (but their friends all agreed was their version of flirting and actually getting together-together) other things that were strikingly similar took up their time.

As they're older, though, the playing pirates is doing recon for the Rangers, reading involves the other's work in academic and artistic circles that they've published, playing video games happens at the Juice Bar with one cheering on the other or indulging their friends in paintball wars. However, wandering the backwoods hasn't changed that much, save that they hold hands a lot tighter and when they go into the tunnel it's to take a breather from the rest of their lives and indulge in just being together.

Who is the better cook?

Skull, who is bestfriends with Bulk and has been a latch-key kid since he was seven years old and realized what the stove was for; but of course. He can't do anything especially fancy, because he's never had the knack or ingredients or patience for it, but he is a glowing expert when it comes to making comfort food for the people he loves and remembering what they like or need in moments of stress or necessity. Rolls filled with butter better than some restaurants; stake cooked rare with the fat cut away so they didn't get sick looking at it; tempura made crispy and delicious; macaroni with buffalo pork or chicken covered in gooey cheese.

Billy can make eggs in a nest of any kind, but anything else, he tends to use too much salt or not enough pepper and sometimes gets distracted with his work and if he's cooking, will leave things too long and set all the fire alarms into a tizzy. But he can bake sweets pretty well, if a little lop-sided and ugly.

Who stays up way too late and who tries to drag them to bed?

They both have the urge and the intent to go to sleep with the other all the time, every night if given the chance. But circumstances often tear these chances and wants away from them.

Billy works and works and works for the betterment of the universe and mankind. When he was a Ranger, he would stay up for days on end without even feeling tired, his brain wired anew by his Color to give him ideal conditions to find the answers to the questions he sought. When he found himself in a relationship with Skull and his Ranger days were behind him, his work for Promethea keeps him occupied often quite late, and though he doesn't have the Power fueling him quite as well as it did (he carried his cracked Coin with him everywhere, and it acknowledged him), he could still find himself awake well into the dawn hours.

Skull is pretty good at remembering to bring Billy in once forty-eight hours have passed without the genius so much as napping, but...

It's not a funny thing to think about, but sometimes hysterical little giggles leave them when they find themselves awake at the same time, in the same place; because Billy can't stop his need to do as much as he can, rewired by the Morphin Grid when he was too young; but Skull simply can't get himself to sleep sometimes because of the meds he's been taking since he found himself genetically wired for anxiety, migraines, clinical depression, and all of his medications can cause insomnia.

At least when they giggle, though, they each acknowledge the need to at least try to enter R.E.M. and drag each other to a couch or chair or bed; wind around each other, sometimes kiss, sometimes do more, sometimes find themselves unconscious because they're so at ease with the other that their bodies just know it's the right time.
