Chapter Text
As he sat upon the corpse of the freshly slain Odogaron, Cazur thought about the past years of his life. He had been wandering the Vale for almost half a decade now, with no luck in finding his prey. The man had slaughtered countless monsters in his seemingly endless hunt, but the one he truly searched for seemed to evade him at every turn. He wondered if the last half-decade was little more than a futile attempt at revenge. Ever since he had began his journey to slay the wretched beast that had all but erased everything he cared about in the world, thoughts of giving up and returning to Astera had crossed his mind every day. He knew he would never actually follow through on these thoughts though. He was simply having to much fun. Cazur soon noticed a putrid stench had begun to fill the air around him, a sure sign of new prey to hunt. As he heaved his massive sword from his back, a pack of Girros emerged from the surrounding rocks and foliage. As they began to make their way towards him, a wocked grin appeared on Cazur’s bloodsoaked face, his heart racing in anticipation. He could never give this up he thought, not even for the comforts of Astera. As the first Girros leapt at him, its claws stretched out towards Cazur, he screamed out a vicious battle cry, so loud it stunned the vile, lizard-like creatures before him. He stepped out of the way of the Girros lunging in his direction, after which he cleanly decapitated the foul beast in one stroke of his enormous blade. As the head of the Girros fell to the ground, he turned his gaze towards the remaining monsters that now surrounded him. He started to rush headfirst into the first Girros, his bloodsoaked blade glinting in the little sunlight that penetrated the Rotten Vale. Yes, he thought, he would never give up this feeling.

Chapter Text
Elizabeth woke up to the smell of freshly cooked bacon, wafting through the air. Although her expedition into the Ancient Forest had put her through much hardship and stress, she knew she could always count on her handler, Red, to make nutritious meals for her, worthy of a five-star restaurant. As she stood up, Red turned to see her rising from the forest floor.
“Hurry up jackass. We’re behind schedule, you should have gotten up two goddamn hours ago, but I let you sleep for a while longer, God knows why.”
“Fuck you, Red.” Elizabeth replied, before making her way towards Red, and the food that was the only thing keeping her sane throughout the grueling expedition she had shared with her partner for the past weeks.
“Get the fuck over here so we can eat this and get a move on.” Red placed a small plate of bacon and vegetables on a table he had set up, while Elizabeth sat down on a stool placed in front of the table.
“What the fuck is this, Red? This ain’t enough to get me through dinner, what the hell man?”
“Whoa whoa whoa, Lizzie,” (He knew she hated that nickname,) “we can’t just be usin’ all our supplies like we have been, we need to start rationing our food if we’re gonna see this expedition all the way through. we have at least another week between us and the next major campsite, and we barely have enough for three more days, at best. You’re gonna have to survive off of this for the next several days.”
“Ugh. If I’m too exhausted to fight, and your sorry ass gets eaten by a Jagras, it ain’t on me.”
While Elizabeth begrudgingly ate her meager breakfast, Red finished packing up their small camp.
“You almost done Lizzie? This tent is a pain in the ass, I can’t fold this thing by myself.”
Elizabeth approached Red, threw him some slinger ammo, along with a slinger, and turned away.
“I have to scout ahead, make sure there aren't any monsters ahead, y’know?” Elizabeth said, an obnoxious smirk on her face. She began to walk towards her standard issue hammer, flipping Red off as she went.
“Oh you bitch! If these Flash Pods and Dung Pods aren’t enough and I get my shit rocked by a fucking Deviljho or some shit, it’s your goddamn fault, Lizzie!”
Elizabeth lowered her goggles over her eyes, tucking her dark, shoulder length hair behind her ears.
“Don’t worry, I told you, if a monster enters the camp, a dung pod or two should be enough to chase it away. If worst comes to worse, use a flash pod to escape. Don’t worry, I won’t be gone long.”
Elizabeth walked into the forest, a poorly suppressed laugh escaping her lungs, Red's flood of insults growing fainter and fainter, until they were gone all together.
Elizabeth had been walking through the forest for a while now, seeing nothing more dangerous than a lone Mosswine. Just as she was about to return to camp, she noticed a faint rumbling coming from the forest around her. She quickly sprinted to the nearest hiding spot, a small hole beneath the base of a rotten tree. She held her breath, her hand instinctively reaching for the large hammer on her back. She could tell that whatever was approaching her was far more dangerous than the Great Jagras and Kulu-Ya-Ku she had grown used to hunting in the weeks since she had arrived to the New World. Elizabeth’s muscles tensed, preparing for whatever beast was about to erupt from the foliage surrounding her. She breathed a sigh of relief as the forest floor stopped vibrating with the footsteps of whatever creature seemingly receded from Elizabeth’s location. Just as she was about to pull herself out from the rotted tree, it was ripped from the ground, the dirt that had surrounded it falling upon the stupefied Elizabeth. As she raised her head to see whatever enormous beast had torn the tree from the forest floor, she found herself peering into the maw of an Anjanath, a tremendous roar issuing from the terrifying monster. Elizabeth scrambled to escape from the now dirt-filled pit, she saw that the Anjanath’s throat had inflated, and she felt a wave of heat blast her face. She frantically shoveled dirt off of her, adrenaline coursing through her body, every hair on her body standing on end. She began to wonder if this was the end, if this was how she was going to go out. She managed to drag herself out of the pit, right as a blast of red-hot flame erupted from the gaping maw of the Anjanath. She sprinted away from the Anjanath, until she was at a safe space. The Anjanath’s head raised from the now flaming pit that Elizabeth had been in just seconds ago. Elizabeth drew her hammer, the fear that had consumed her moments ago evaporated. The Ajanath raised its head towards the sun, a blood-curdling shriek piercing Elizabeth’s ears. A normal hunter would have left already, but Elizabeth was no ordinary hunter. She bellowed a cry loud enough to rival the mighty beast standing before her, as if issuing a challenge. The Anjanath looked down at Elizabeth and began to charge towards her, each step rattling the ground around it. Elizabeth cracked her neck, and sprinted head first into the terrifying monster.
“LETS FUCKING GO, JACKASS! I’LL GRIND YOU TO FUCKING DUST!”
The two rushed at each other, Elizabeth’s blood boiling with anticipation. THIS is why she had become a hunter. She loved the thrill of the hunt, the pure adrenaline pumping through her veins, this extraordinary feeling that came over her. As she would soon come to learn, her feelings were mirrored by another.
