Work Text:
Dillon stared at the envelope on Ziggy’s desk. ‘Dillon’ was written in Ziggy’s neat handwriting. He’d been staring at it for months, but today... today he might bring himself to open it. Today on the anniversary.. He could do this.
He picked it up gently. It felt lighter in his hands than he’d expected. He thought it’d feel heavy, like his heart.
Finally, he opened the envelope, unfolding the rough paper.
‘Dillon,
I’m sorry for any pain I’ve caused. But.. I just couldn’t handle it anymore. Handle what, you’re wondering? The mob, for one. But for two.. Watching you. Knowing you’d never be in my reach. Watching you flirt with Summer, knowing you were happy now that you had Tenaya. I was never in your orbit, and it was understandable. You’re so wonderful, and I.. I’m just Ziggy. Plus, the team doesn’t need me anymore, with Venjix gone. So there’s no point in me staying. But just in case I’ve hurt you.. I’m sorry.
I’ll love you forever. Maybe we’ll meet again someday, in another world.
-Ziggy’
Diillon crumpled the paper, tears in his eyes. Why hadn’t he told Ziggy how he felt? He was a coward.. He’d known it for over a year, but to have the proof shoved in his face. The fact he’d never see Ziggy again.. And it was all his fault.
He glanced out of his room, Summer and Tenaya smiling and laughing as they talked. They weren’t alone.. He shouldn’t feel alone. But without Ziggy... he always would feel empty.
He reached into Ziggy’s bedside drawer, grabbing the gun that Ziggy always kept to protect himself. His final thought was that he hoped he would see Ziggy again before he pulled the trigger.
