So if you’re asking no, Changkyun didn’t plan for this to happen. He should have listened to Hyungwon when he said to bring an umbrella but he didn’t want to prove his equanimous roommate correct.
He stepped into the convenience store across the street and looked around, maybe he could find an umbrella here. He strides near the strawberry milk and hesitates. Changkyun you came here for an umbrella not to buy a carton of milk. It was quite tempting though.
He pondered over the decision for a while and then calculated all of his expenses checking to make sure he would be able to afford rent, groceries, and textbooks. It wouldn’t hurt to buy just a little something once and a while. He quickly grabbed the milk and took an umbrella from the basket near the window.
He went over to the cashier ready to check out, and there stood the hottest man he has ever laid eyes on. He must have looked ridiculous standing there with him mouth wide open but he couldn’t take his eyes off of the man. He wore a black suit, probably made from very expensive silk and Changkyun could just feel himself shaking from just how much money that probably cost. His hair was slicked back and his jawline was nearly perfect.
When the man spoke Changkyun thought he might pass out right there. He had a slightly deep tone and his voice held authority, he could practically hear the cashier blushing when she thanked him and said “Come again!” Or something along those lines.
The man turned on his heel and walked out of the store leaving Changkyun to gawk.
He cleared his throat and proceeded to check out pulling out his card. He hoped and prayed that it wouldn’t decline and he could see the cashier frown. “Your card has declined.” She said, her toned a little annoyed. Changkyun winced surely he wasn’t that broke. Changkyun signaled for the lady to wait one second and bowed apologetically. He checked his bank account, he didn’t even have enough money to buy the umbrella.
He sighed and apologized to lady grabbing the things off the counter and putting them back. No umbrella for me I guess. He walked out of the store and the little bell at the top of the door rang almost mockingly.
Changkyun gasped as he heard a thump. The door had hit the man from before. He gulped, the man looked even hotter up close. Changkyun mentally slapped himself, it isn’t the time for this you just hit a man who probably cost more than your fucking existence with a door.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Changkyun bowed multiple times and anxiously shifted his weight on his other foot. The man said nothing making Changkyun’s blood pressure rise even more. The man cleared his throat and wiped off his suit. “It’s alright.”
“I- uhm so- I can make it up to you!” He quickly blurted out wanting to save himself from further embarrassment. “I mean I work at a café it’s not far from here, we’re closed right now but I can slide you in.”
The man looked weary at first then hummed, “Yoo Kihyun.” Changkyun furrowed his brows, “I what?” he asked.
The man chuckled apparently finding his bewilderment funny. “Yoo Kihyun, my name.” He said. Changkyun blushed and let out a nervous laugh.
“I’m Changkyun it’s nice to meet you.” He put out his hand and Kihyun smiled while shaking it.
Changkyun seemed to notice something in his hands and tilted his head in confusion. “You smoke?”
Kihyun looked at him “Do you want one? I just bought a new pack.” and Changkyun let out a surprised chuckle.
“No, no, I don’t smoke. I don’t think cigarettes are very good for your health. I read an article one time about it, did you know that if you have a mental health condition you’re more likely to adapt to a cigarette addiction?” Changkyun wasn’t sure why he was rambling to Kihyun he just met him 5 minutes ago.
Kihyun genuinely seemed interested in what Changkyun had to say, quirking his eyebrows and squinting his eyes when he was talking. “No I actually didn’t know that.”
Changkyun nodded, “So then, if you don’t mind me asking why do you smoke? Is it an addiction, do you like them, or is it something else?”
Kihyun’s eyebrows rose to the top of his forehead. “I don’t know, I guess it just relieves stress.” he looks like he had more to say but Changkyun didn’t want to pry. The thunder had knocked Kihyun out of his trance and he looked up and then back at Changkyun.
“Where’s your umbrella? I could have sworn I saw you with one earlier.” Kihyun questioned.
“Oh yeah.. well turns out I should have checked my savings before I left the house. I couldn’t afford it.” Changkyun laughed bitterly.
Kihyun threw his cigarette on the ground and stepped on it making sure the bud was out. He then reached for something and pulled it up with his hand. He opened a black umbrella. Large enough for exactly two people. “Here we can share mine.”
Changkyun couldn’t hide his smile and gratefully accepted his offer. Kihyun gripped the umbrella and walked with Changkyun to his car. “Forgive me for assuming but I don’t think you have a way home seeing as you were soaked when you walked into the store. There also wasn’t a car parked anywhere around here.”
Changkyun blushed, he saw him? Great. Now Yoo Kihyun will forever remember the day he saw Im Changkyun walk into a convenience store soaked from head to toe all because he wouldn’t listen to his ridiculously intelligent, which he would never admit to that, roomate.
“Oh yeah uh- I guess not. I was planning just to walk home.” Changkyun was on edge his nerves rising as Kihyun stared at him.
“Stay with me.” He said suddenly. Changkyun’s jaw dropped in that dumb flabbergasted way again. It was the second time today. “I don’t know about that, I mean you’ve already done a lot for me. I don’t want to burden you.”
“You wouldn’t burden me and I would enjoy the company. It would be a hassle for you to go home soaked, I can give you a change of clothes.” Kihyun offered.
“Wow, thank you so much. I’ll make sure your coffee is always free when you order at my Café!” Changkyun smiled.
Changkyun stepped into Kihyun’s home gaping at the beautiful scenery and luxurious environment. Changkyun nervously bit his lip, “Are you sure it’s okay for me to stay here?”
Kihyun chuckled, he tended to do that a lot Changkyun noted. It was always a pleasant sound though so he could never complain. “It’s alright Changkyun, I know this place looks scary when you first walk into it but It’s really just a big space decorated with overpriced decorations.”
Kihyun walked through the halls swiftly it’s kind of crazy how he knew exactly where to go in this big house. But I guess you get used to it. Kihyun must be very important because from what Changkyun’s concluded. He has a lot of money and a very authoritative demeanor.
“Changkyun come over here.” Kihyun signaled for him. Changkyun stepped into his room and immediately stopped in his tracks. His bedroom was gorgeous. He had a kind sized bed with a white duvet and roses on his bedside table. Hung over the bed was a bright chandelier and white frilly curtains were drawn over the window.
Kihyun tapped his shoulder startling him. “Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you, here I have some clothes you can wear. I’m sorry if they’re a little big, I don’t have anything in a smaller size.“
“Oh, so you do have other clothes besides 10,000 dollars suits.” He smiled sarcastically.
“Hardly so.” Kihyun rolled his eyes.
Changkyun bowed and thanked Kihyun before stepping into the bathroom and quickly stripping changing into the older man’s clothes. The clothes smelt of sage and it was amazing. Whatever cologne Kihyun uses Changkyun must remember to steal it before he leaves. He laughed at his ridiculous joke and then stepped back into Kihyun’s room.
The clothes draped over Changkyun’s body softly and they almost fit perfectly they were only a little too big.
“You look great.” Kihyun sharply inhaled and smiled. He opened the sliding glass door and brought Changkyun to the balcony. Kihyun motioned for him to stand beside him.
Changkyun hesitantly trudged next to Kihyun placing his hands on the balcony next to his.
“I come up here when I feel like being alone.” Kihyun paused for a second before continuing. “Most people only come to me for my money. I can see why, I am the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the world but it isn’t like I wanted to be. I like to come up here to smoke when everything gets too hard.”
Changkyun blinked rapidly, Kihyun was the CEO of the Yoo Corporate? Well that makes a lot of sense now. Changkyun listened attentively as Kihyun shared his thoughts.
“After my dad died I didn’t have much of a choice. His death was so unexpected that there was no one else who could take his place. So I was the one who had to. At first I wanted to deny the request but I didn’t want to disappoint my father.” Kihyun sighed softly. “I’m sorry. I know you didn’t come up here with me to hear my sob story.”
Changkyun placed his hand on top of Kihyun’s and furrowed his brows “It’s okay Kihyun. I like listening to you and I’ll never judge you.” Kihyun’s eyes were glossy and he looked like a kicked puppy.
“Thank you so much Changkyun. I’m so grateful for your company tonight, for once I feel a little less alone.” Kihyun huffed.
Changkyun jumped when he suddenly heard a loud crack and his eyes widened when colors started exploding in the sky. It was beautiful. Red, green, pink, blue. Several different colors of fireworks exploded. Kihyun smiled at Changkyun looking into his eyes.
Suddenly their lips connected and time seemed to slow down. Maybe this year wouldn’t be so bad after all.
The air was chilly and the month of February had arose before anyone knew it. Changkyun smiled and tapped his foot to the beat of the song currently playing in the café. It had been a busy week and he couldn’t wait to go home and spend Valentine’s Day with his boyfriend. He can’t believe it’s been two years since he met Kihyun it’s feels like just yesterday.
The bell chimed announcing that a customer had entered. Changkyun walked over to the customer to greet them and gasped when he saw his boyfriend standing there.
“Kihyun!” He yelled and hugged his boyfriend. Kihyun giggled and ran his fingers through the younger man’s hair.
“Happy Valentine’s Day darling.” Kihyun handed Changkyun a bouquet of Violets. And Changkyun looked up at him surprised.
“You remembered?” Changkyun whispered and Kihyun let out that lovely sounding chuckle again.
“Violets, your favorite.” Changkyun beamed and Kihyun smiled softly. “So what did you get me?” Kihyun questioned jokingly.
Changkyun hit Kihyun playfully on his chest. He clicked his tongue as if in thought and pulled something out of his pocket.
“Kyunnie, what is that?” Kihyun suspiciously squinted his eyes.
“A pack of cigarettes obviously.” Changkyun held them out in his hand for better view and Kihyun slowly blinked.
“What..?” He looked lost and Changkyun shrugged, but then he couldn’t help but burst out laughing at his boyfriends shocked expression.
“Yes the cigarettes are for you but I didn’t just buy you a pack of cigarettes for Valentine’s Day idiot.” Changkyun barked out a laugh giddily.
“Thank god.” Kihyun let out a relieved sigh and Changkyun pulled out a gift bag. It was a cute soft pink color with tissue paper delicately stuffed inside.
“Open it!” Changkyun excitingly lifted off his heels.
Kihyun opened the bag and questioningly titled his head to the side. He pulled out a card that read a cheesy Valentine’s Day poem. He opened the gift rapped in tissue paper and found a vinyl of the Howl’s Moving Castle soundtrack.
Kihyun couldn’t help but tear up. He appreciated his boyfriends thoughtfulness above all.
“Oh my god I love this so much. Thank you so so much sweetheart.” Kihyun engulfed Changkyun in a tight hug and Changkyun let out a shocked noise.
“Ki don’t cry.” Changkyun scolded but it was too late for that. Kihyun was already showering Changkyun’s shirt in his delicate tears.
“I’m sorry baby.” Kihyun laughed and wiped away his tears. He checked his watch and his eyebrows raised. “Looks like your shifts over baby.”
Changkyun let out a little “Wha..?” before checking the clock on the wall. Minhyuk is surely going to be upset with him now. But his other coworker Jooheon just winked at him and gave him a thumbs up.
Changkyun nodded thankfully. He turned to Kihyun. “You look so fucking sexy right now.”
Kihyun quirked his brow, “Oh do I now?”
Changkyun nodded aggressively and whispered, “As soon as we get home you better rail me so hard I nearly fall off the bed.”
Kihyun scoffed dumbfounded and shook his head.
Changkyun would never admit this, but Changkyun is glad he was proven wrong by Hyungwon and that he never brought an umbrella. He’s glad he has a Yoo Kihyun in his life.
