Chapter Text
12 April 2022
It was dark in the room with only a light came from a PC screen. Sitting on the gaming-looking chair in front of the lit screen, the silver-haired girl was pressing her game console aggressively that the room was filled with the sound of the button being pressed. Her eyes was glued to the screen, looking at the screen carefully as the green with vein popping characters charged her. Of course Yoohyeon pressed one of the button to shoot at them right at their heads to give them a finishing blow.
Yoohyeon grip on her headset, pushing the button on the side of her headset.
"What the hell are you doing Yubin? Walkers are everywhere!!" She yelled at the comm, shooting all the walking corpses in the game.
"Yah, be patient Yoo. Just... give me a few minutes to plant the bomb at the power house." A feminine deep voice spoke through the comm of her headset. Yoohyeon clicked her tongue.
"Then do it faster! You are going to get the two of us killed."
"Aish, fine. Give me 3 seconds and...done!"Yubin exclaimed through the comm.
Yoohyeon muttered the word 'finally' and proceeds to kill the rest of the walkers in the game that were coming toward her. And then, a huge explosion blasted from the power house which Yoohyeon's player was near to it. Luckily, her hp didn't go down fully. She clicked her tongue and slammed her console on the table.
"Uwaaarghh!!! What the fuck Yubin!?? You going to get me killed!"She yelled at the comm.
"That's what you get for being impatient with me. So how many percent is your hp ?"
Yoohyeon glanced at her player's hp bar. "17%."She stated as she leaned back to her gaming chair. "It your damn fault that it almost gotten me killed, you know."
She heard a chuckle from the other side of the comm. "What is fucking funny?"
"Sorry. I mean you are the one who told me to be fast when setting up the bomb."
Yoohyeon rolled her eyes and groaned. "Then you should tell me to stay back before the bomb blast."
The door of her room suddenly opened as there was a short woman entering her room. She wore a office wear; white blouse and blazer, as well as a black mini skirt. And not to forget that she also wear a small round glasses which makes her look smart.
She glanced at her younger sister with her scrunched nose. Yoohyeon ignored her older sister's gaze and continue tapping the button of her console.
"What the hell... it 7 am and you still playing this..."Taeyeon paused for a while and then look at the monitor screen. "... same stupid game."
"It is not a stupid game, Tae. It my life. This game cost my life."
"Yoohyeon jinjja...you are 20 now and you still haven't find a single job, you know that."She shook her head and grab the closed curtains before she pull it to the side as she the sun rise shone through the window.
Yoohyeon shrieked when the sun got into her eyes, like a vampire who had been staying in their room for so many hours without going out while sun rise. She then quickly pulled up her hoodie to cover her eyes that was burning by the sun and continue what she was doing, eyes was fixed on the screen while her fingers do the work.
"Look what the stupid game did to you. It make you look like a vampire."
Yoohyeon groaned. She always hate that her sister always barged into her room so that she can nag her every single time.
"Can you please shut the fuck up and leave my room? I got something to do here. Please."She look at her older sister with annoyed in her eyes.
Taeyeon rolled her eyes at her sister. "You should find a job and make money. Your dad always nag to me about you."
Okay. The same statement that coming out from Taeyeon's mouth again. The same thing that she talked about how their father always nagged to Taeyeon about her. She don't care if the two of them always talk behind her back. All she care was to play the game peacefully without interrupting like what her sister did.
"And with all the electric bill we had dealing every month, and especially when you are playing with this darn things day and night, you can't always depends on our allowance, you know."Taeyeon continued.
Yoohyeon clicked her tongue in annoyed. "It okay, you and dad have money to pay."She spoke.
"This is not what I am saying, Yoo. You should know that one day when dad passed away or I got married to some guy, who going to look after you?"
After a few minutes, no response from Yoohyeon. Only the sound of clicking can be heard in the small, cozy room.
"No one right? This is why you should find a job and depend on your own allowance."
With that final sentences from Taeyeon, Yoohyeon quickly stood up and slammed her hand on her PC's table. "Okay fine. I will find a job. Can you just go out?"Yoohyeon asked, annoyed with her sister nagging again.
"Suit yourself, Yoo. Don't blame me for your future."Taeyeon walked to the door and suddenly stop when she held the door knob. She turned around. "Oh yeah. Just to inform you, I won't be around for 3 whole month. My company decided to send me to Australia to work there today. So don't expect me to give you money."With that, she left while closing the door shutly.
Yoohyeon look at the door that her sister just left. "I don't have future anyway."She murmured, recalling the time when she got beaten up in her high school.
Yoohyeon grip her console tightly before her eyes went back to the screen. Her eyes suddenly went big when she saw something popping out on the screen. She couldn't believe her eyes.
Yooheart97 has been killed by Wolfhye16
"AH SHIBAL!!!!"
-
In the dining room, a middle age man was sipping his coffee while reading the newspaper, flipping to the next page.
Taeyeon went to the dining table and took a seat opposite him, grabbing a bread and knife as she dipped the knife in the jam and spread it on the bread.
"So how is Yoohyeon?"The man started the conversation. Hearing Yoohyeon's name mentioned, she couldn't help but to sigh.
Just by looking at Taeyeon's face, he knew her conversation with her younger sister is not well. No matter how many time they tried to get Yoohyeon to find a part-time job, Yoohyeon refused to.
The man cleared his throat. "I see...aish that rascal. Why can't she at least get away from the game consoles for one day and start working? "
"Just ignore her, father. It not like she will bring any good for us."Taeyeon said as she swallowed the bread and chew it slowly. "I know but your younger sister needs to learn to be an independent woman. She already adult and I am going to grow old. And to add on, you might get married next year or next 2 years."
"I already told her but she won't listen."
Just then, Yoohyeon had climb down the stairs from her room just to receive a cold glare coming from her father and sister. She couldn't care less about them. Her both hands was inside of her hoodie's pockets as her eyes was staring at them uninterested.
She pretends that the two of her family weren't there and make her way to the door and leave the house immediately. But her father's deep voice make her stop halfway.
"Where are you going?"
"Just take a walk."She answered coldly without looking at her father. Her body was facing at the door.
"A walk? You had been staying in your room for couple of days and now you wanted to take a walk?"Her father said as he looks at her with a face of disgust.
Yoohyeon rolled her eyes. That face of him makes her want to punch right at his face. She tried to cool it down by clenching her hands tight. "It none of your business, father." She doesn't have the mood to talk to someone she doesn't like. So she quickly left the house and slammed the door close, indicating that the younger is mad.
"That damn rascal, doesn't she know manner at all? Who the hell taught her how to be rude?"The middle-age man crossed his arms as he leaned back to the chair.
"Just let her be. You know how she is...ever since mother passed away, she..."Taeyeon paused as she look down, gripping the cup of coffee. Her father nods, understanding what Taeyeon was going to say.
Before their mother passed on, Yoohyeon was cheerful girl who make friends with almost everybody in the class and was a top scorer. She had a straight A for all the subject. And her mother sometime bring her out for dinner whenever she passed for her end-of-year exam.
One day, there was a tragic accident around the neighborhood. A killer was running loose and that led her mother was killed by the killer.
It was evening when Yoohyeon found out that her mother was killed. She was helping her sister with a feast for their parents wedding anniversary. The moment she found out about it, she dropped the plate which completely shattered it and ran to the crime scene where her mother was killed.
When she saw a body been carried out by the police, there was a cloth covering the corpse. Yoohyeon slowly pulled the cloth and saw her mother's pale face.
Yoohyeon started wailing as she buried her face to her mother's corpse. She couldn't believe that the corpse was her mother. She couldn't believe that her mother died. Her mother was everything to her. She doesn't know how she will live without her. "No...it can't be, mum. You can't leave me. I need you mum... I need you..."
She was in her middle school when the accident happened. Ever since the death of her mother, Yoohyeon has changed. She became more lazy and always failing classes which make her dropped out from a high school. And she was consistently being bullied during her high school year. This is why she decided to dropped out.
Taeyeon close her eyes, remembering what Yoohyeon said when she and their father arrived at the crime scene.
" Yoo ...are you..."Taeyeon stopped when she felt her father's hands were embraced her.
Yoohyeon eventually stop crying but they could still hear her sob as she wipe her wet cheeks. The girl turned around and Taeyeon and their dad saw how red her eyes is. "Hey unnie ...do you know why mum died?"
Taeyeon opened her mouth but then she stops, not knowing what she's going to answer to her. She decided it a best choice not to answer her.
"Because humans are cruel and all they care about themselves."
Taeyeon opened her eyes after recalling that. She feel bad for Yoohyeon. She knew how close their mother and Yoohyeon is.
It was not Yoohyeon's fault because of the death of their mum. It her own fault for forcing their mum to go to the places where the killer was running loose. Taeyeon was currently working as a lawyer but she swore to catch her mum's killer no matter what.
-
Yoohyeon stood under the tree as she held her phone and dial the number of her friend before placing it to her ear.
Ring...ring...ring...rin-sorry the person you have been calling is unavai -
Yoohyeon immediately close her phone and sighed. "What the fuck is she doing? Fucking a girl she just met a few day ago?"Yoohyeon look up to the scorching sun as she feel her skin was burning.
Wake me up, no matter how many times
Don't give up, stand up
I don't look-
Her phone rang as the ID of her friend lit up on her screen, so she quickly pressed the green button and put it on speaker mode in case her best friend yell at her through the call.
"YAH KIM YOOHYEON ! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU CALLING ME AT THIS TIMING? CAN'T YOU TELL THAT I AM BUSY HERE?"
"Aish jinjja, you are so fucking loud, Yubin."Yoohyeon said irritated. But then she heard a weird sound coming from the other line. It sound like a soft moan of an unknown girl. "So this is what you mean by being busy. You are fucking another girl again."She said as she face palmed. Knowing her friend for many years, Yubin always sex with different girls at different places.
She then heard a chuckle. "You know Yoo. Life is about having fun. Instead of staying at home and playing games all day, you should try it out. Who's know you will like it. Right baby?"
" Urgh ...Y- yubin ...f-faster!"
Yoohyeon hung up the call and switch off her phone. "What is this? A live porn? What an unpleasant to hear."She muttered.
Her screen lit up again, showing a few messages from the same girl that she called.
LeeYubin
Heyo
I am sorry that you had to hear with your virgin's ears. It not my intention lmao. My baby girl just wanted to...you know what I mean.
Btw
Do you have any problem at home? Coz I know you called me whenever you are in a bad mood.
Yoohyeon clicked on Yubin's message and started typing out and send message to her.
LeeYubin
Well, basically yes.
Are you done playing with your girl?
I want to meet you at the usual place.
Usual place?
Yeah, at Boca café. Meet me there and don't be late.
Alright boss
*LeeYubin sent a funny salute gif*
Yoohyeon laugh at the gif. She then closes her phone and slip it through her cargo's pant pocket before heading to the agree location.
At Yubin's self own apartment, Yubin put on her shirt that she tossed off at the corner of her house. She could see the girl was pouting her lip, sitting on her bed without wearing any clothes.
"Aigoo, can you stop pouting? You make me want to pinch your cheek."Yubin said as she walked toward the girl after finishing putting on all her clothes.
"Can you stay with me any longer? Why do you have to go out?"She sulked, avoiding her eye contact with the short hair girl in front of her.
"I am sorry, my baby girl. My friend need me and I need to be there for her."Yubin was about to stroke the latter's head but the latter gently push her hand away. "So your friend are more important to me?"
"O-of course not, baby. You are the most important to me and you know that I love you so much. What about this? Tomorrow I will spend the rest of my day with you. Maybe we could go shopping, watch some movies or maybe walk in a park. Just the two of us."
The face of the girl suddenly lit up. "Promise?"
Yubin nods. She held her girlfriend's hand and wrapped her pinky finger around hers in order to keep the promise. "Promise."She repeated, giving a sweet smile to the brunette.
-
Yoohyeon was scrolling through tiktok, watching a random unfunny videos while waiting for her best friend to arrive at the café.
She then felt a light tap which make her look up to see an unfamiliar face and not her best friend that she expected to see. That unfamiliar girl was wearing a uniform of a waitress who was holding an iPad. She was standing in front of her without any expression on her face.
Yoohyeon's eyes was gazing down to the girl's name tag. 'Kim Minji?' She said in her mind. The girl suddenly smile sweetly which make the silver girl suddenly taken aback at the waitress's attitude. "Hi, what would you like to order?" The waitress asked sweetly.
She decided to think for a little while before she proceeds to order. "Just iced lemon tea."
The waitress nodded her head, then giving the brightest smile ever to the silver girl. "Got it! The drink will be ready for a few minutes!"The waitress cheerfully said as she jogged to the counter as Yoohyeon watched her interacting with a man which she assumes her manager. Yoohyeon couldn't help but to stare at her admiringly. She just realized that the waitress looks like an angel. A beautiful angel with that smile that can light up the entire world.
While she was staring at the waitress, a short hair girl entered the store by the entrance door. Her wet hair was all over her face since it was raining outside. So she wipe her wet hair with some tissues. "Aish stupid rain. Why it is always raining whenever I go out?"She angrily murmured, trying to dry her wet hair.
When she noticed Yoohyeon, she quickly put a smile on her face and was about to call her, but suddenly she stopped when she realized her best friend was staring at a waitress. Not just staring, she was looking at the waitress lovingly. She could sense it.
Her smile then grew into a smirk. "I didn't know she has a thing with a waitress. Just look at her, her eyes tells otherwise."Yubin muttered softly as she slowly walking toward the said girl.
"Yah."Yubin tapped Yoohyeon's shoulder, making the girl in front of her almost jumped from her seat.
The moment Yoohyeon realized who was tapping her shoulder, she clenched her fist and glare at her. "Yah, don't scare me like that. I gonna have heart attack, you know."The angry puppy said. Yubin scratched her neck. "Sorry sorry. It just that..."She paused as her eyes landed on the waitress, then to the puppy. "...you looks like you were in daze. What happened? My Yoohyeon will never- 'never' stared at a random girl like that. Hm? What's gotten you?"She hummed
Yoohyeon widened her eyes. "Huh? What the fuck are you talking about?"She asked as she was looking at the short hair with confusion.
"C'mon Yoo, just tell me. Do you have a crush on that girl?"Yubin suddenly raised her fingers as she pointed at the waitress. Her eyebrow raised. Yoohyeon looks at the direction of where her finger pointing at. She then stood up, accidentally pushing the chair which make a creak sound. "Of course not, I don't have a crush on her!"Yoohyeon accidentally yelled, bringing all (including the waitress named Kim Minji) attention to her.
"Now you done it."Yubin spoke with a friendly smirk.
Yoohyeon couldn't reply to her after that. Her face was red, a bright red where everyone can see the color on her face.
Yoohyeon quickly sit and all the people continue doing their thing. Except for Minji, she was staring at the puppy with amusement.
"Hmm..."
"Minji unnie? Why are you standing there? We need to work or else our manager gonna scold us."A shorter girl, wearing a waitress uniform said as she was carrying a few tray of some leftovers food from the customers.
Looking away from Yoohyeon, she nodded at the shorter girl. "A-alright Gahyeon-ah. Let me help you with that."She then briskly walk toward the shorter girl to take some trays.
Yoohyeon glared at the panda and kick her feet. "Ouch! That's hurt! What the fuck was that!??"Yubin whisper-yelled her. She glanced at her bruise feet that Yoohyeon kicked and rubbed it slowly to ease the pain. "That's for embarrassing me, especially to that girl."Yoohyeon whispered back.
"So you admit that you like her, huh?"Yubin whispered, smirking at Yoohyeon. Yoohyeon rolled her eyes. "Shut up."
"So." Yubin started after finally easing the pain on her feet. "Talking about that beautiful girl isn't the reason why you decided to met up with me, right? So tell me what's the problem?"Yubin asked as she went closer to Yoohyeon.
Yoohyeon heaved a heavy sigh before she decided to tell her best friend everything about her sister and her father. Yubin nodded her head, listening to what the puppy had to said.
"I see, I see. Aish really. Being an adult is really worst."Yubin said. Yoohyeon agreed. "But I hate to admit, you need to find a job though."She added. Yoohyeon glared at her and kicked her feet again.
"Ouch!"
"You are not helping, Yubin."
"But it true though, you need to find a job to survive." She said.
Yoohyeon slammed her head on the table. "You're the worst."She muttered, watching the ice from her ice lemon tea slowly melting away.
"I wish there is a zombie apocalypse in this world. I don't want to live anymore. I rather die painfully death." She said with another heavy sigh.
"Hey, don't say that, buddy. You won't die. Even if there is a zombie apocalypse, I won't let you get bitten by them."Yubin patted her back softly.
"Yubinnie..." Yoohyeon looks at her best friend in awe. Yubin's really care about her...
Yubin's cheek suddenly turned red and quickly looked away from the puppy. "Just forget what I said. And don't ever think about what I said to you."
"Thank you, Yubin."She thanked her. Yubin has always got her back ever since they were young. She and Yubin were friend since kindergarten.
Yoohyeon was an extremely quiet girl who hardly had any friends, but then she met Yubin. Although Yubin is an introvert, she was a social butterfly and always had a few friends with her.
Since they met, they became inseparable. Almost every school they went, they were in the same class until high school where they decided to dropped out together. They doesn't like school much and thought that school was for dweeb
After dropping out from high school, Yubin was working in the bar and she hooked up almost every girl she met there, while Yoohyeon was just an unemployed girl who doesn't want to work for people. She's only love to play video games.
"Let's just go, Yubin."Yoohyeon suddenly spoke. "Go where?"Yubin asked.
"I don't want to stay in this place anymore. It bored me."She said, standing up and quickly walk to the exit without saying any word after that. Yubin tilted her head, confusing as to why the girl left just like that. "Y-yah, wait for me!"She ran after the puppy.
Little did they know that Minji was watching them leaving, especially Yoohyeon. The shorter waitress was talking to her passionately but the taller waitress didn't even listen to her. She was only stared at the door Yoohyeon and her friend just left.
Gahyeon stopped talking as she realized Minji didn't listen to her. "Minji unnie? Unnie? Minji unnie? Kim Minji?"And that's enough to snapped the taller waitress to the waitress.
Minji glared at the younger, balling her fist. "Yah maknae. Did you just called me by my full name?"
"Hey hey I am sorry okay. I was talking to you and you were not listening to me."She said as she close her eyes shut, thinking that the older going to hit her.
"Fine, apologies accepted."She said as she unballed her fist.
"You were in daze and I thought that you are tired of listening to me."Gahyeon pouted. Minji then smile and patted the younger's head. "I am sorry maknae. What were you saying again?"
"I am saying that we don't have much time left here. Soon they will invade this city. That's what Jinsoul unnie said."Gahyeon said. Then Minji's face turned into serious expressions. "Hmm...well after all today is the last day of us working in this café. We need to tell the government about this. As soon as possible before everyone became one of 'them'."
Gahyeon nodded.
"Manager nim, we are leaving!"
"Hold on, What about-"The manager couldn't finish his sentences as the two now ex-waitress left the café.
-
The two found a place where no one could find them. Putting 2 bags on the floor, the girls unzipped, taking out a bullet proof vest with some black long covered suit. They immediately took off their waitress uniform, wearing the suit after that and quickly put on the vest. But Gahyeon was struggling with the vest.
"Unnie, I need help here." Gahyeon whispered to her. Minji turned to Gahyeon and helped her putting on the vest. "Better?"Gahyeon nods and Minji lightly pat on her shoulder. "Good. Let's take the rifle."Minji said as she grabbed her Kalashnikov AK-47 Assault Rifle. Gahyeon sighed as she grabbed her Heckler & Koch HK416 assault rifle. "Are we really need to kill 'them'?"She looks at her rifle, brushing her fingers over it.
"We have no choice, Gahyeon-ah. They are no longer human. They are just a walking corpse. We have to use this thing if we needed it. If they invaded this city before we get all the civilization to evacuate. Let's get going. We have not much time. Time is ticking."
"Right!"
Minji and Gahyeon then left the place quickly, running as if time is running out fast.
