Work Text:
She had been awake for some time now. And though she had tried to go back to sleep, the orange sunlight was too mesmerising to not pay attention too.
She puffed a breath out when blonde hair tickled her nose, trying not to sneeze and disturb the woman in her arms. They both were awake, yes, but the serenity was rare; the relaxation and ability to stop thinking was blissful.
The air was chilling from the few hours the sun spent hiding behind the dunes on the horizon. Such mornings were always welcome, the intense heat cooling down in a short window of comfort before the big ball of fire would heat the air up again.
Her name was uttered groggily and her attention was diverted. "We have to get up." She let out a groan at that. It was not her girlfriend's voice that annoyed her, it never could, but rather her words.
"Temari." Her voice came out high and breathy, the whine was ignored. Temari smacked her cheek lightly a couple of times before sitting up.
"Stop whining." Her tone stern, though she also wanted to fall back into the sheets. But still, she planted her feet on the ground and stood up, hoping that she would be able to get (Y/N) up as well.
"Why don't you ever let me sleep? Please let me sleep." She whined again, pulling the thin linen over her head and digging her shoulder into the mattress. She felt Temari's weight leave the bed, and shuffling was heard before with a loud creak she opened the cupboard.
Knowing that none of them could stay in the room for much longer, combining that knowledge with the sharp creak of the cupboard, her brows furrowed as she sat up. She did not anticipate the harsh rays that would pierce her eyes as soon as she opened them. Rubbing her palms into her eyes, she groaned again; the vibrant patterns behind her eyes more vivid because of the intense light shining on her.
"I thought you wanted to sleep." Her ears picked up a teasing tone. And when she opened her eyes, it was almost as if she had fallen in love all over again.
Temari stood in front of a window, weighing two of her shirts in her hands, before finally deciding on one. They looked too similar from where (Y/N) sat, so she refrained from commenting. The way the sunlight highlighted Temari's cheekbones made her heart leap up; not that she would ever admit it, it was too random of a thought.
Scooting to the edge of the mattress, "Come here. Please." She crossed her legs, making space to accommodate for her girlfriend as she opened her arms. Temari huffed in annoyance once, but her face softened a second later. "Thank you."
As she sat down on (Y/N)'s thighs, "Don't say that I don't let you sleep. You woke up yourself." All (Y/N) gave back was a light hum. She assumed the response was satiable, when she felt arms loosely drape over her shoulders.
She wasn't one to interrupt someone when they were doing a task, so it was understandable when a question was thrown her way. "What do you want?"
"Well, I wanted to...." Trailing off, she fixed her gaze to the window, not being able to do anything else.
"Stop bluffing. Just tell me. What's the worst I can do?" Temari's words ended with a hum, a comfort lining her voice.
"You could use me as a punching bag." Her tone playful, she received a sharp smack to the shoulder blade as a result. "I just wanted to ask something."
Temari nodded in her direction, moving forward to place her head at her shoulder. (Y/N) let out a shuddering breath, the warm skin feeling calm on her forehead. She sighed in anxiousness, hands fisting into Temari's shirt. "Do you maybe want to marry me?"
The bed creaked sharply when Temari lifted her head back up with a jerk, the uncharacteristic blush that suddenly appeared on her cheeks easing some of (Y/N)'s worry. Her eyes remained as wide as saucers for a few seconds, (Y/N)'s optics roaming her face the entire time; before one eyebrow came down in a teasing glint.
"Put in some more effort, you idiot." Their laughs tore through the momentary silence abruptly, Temari shoving (Y/N)'s shoulders in effort to show her non-existent anger.
"It would be so much work. Setting up flowers and everything. And imagine if you had rejected me. Then what?"
"If there was any other girl other than me, she would have slapped you off. We're literally in bed, with night breath." Their laughter hadn't calmed down, the situation not entirely funny, but making their stomachs hurt from how abruptly they had burst out laughing.
"Well, there isn't any other girl is there?" Temari's laughter stopped at that, as she shook her head at the rhetoric. She bent down to peck (Y/N)'s lips quickly before sitting up straight.
"And the ring? You better have bought a ring." (Y/N)'s eyes were drawn to the accusing finger pointed into her face.
"Oh yes, I did. But, it's being made right now."
With a shameful smack of her lips, she waited for another scolding to come her way, though it never arrived. She just felt the weight from her thighs disappear.
"It's alright. I guess I'll have to get used to this if I'm marrying you. Won't I?" With a gleeful smile and an enthusiastic nod, (Y/N) fell back into bed, content with herself. The conversation had gone better than she hoped, only a couple slaps and none of them particularly painful. She must've been blessed by the gods today.
"That does not mean you can go back to sleep. Your attitude is going to ruin my reputation." The stern tone was back. And with another whine (Y/N) pulled herself out of bed.
"Not like it's already ruined or anything."
"Are you trying to die?"
"No ma'am. Never. Love you." And she ran out of the room, hastily picking the first set of clothes she got her hands on.
