"No wait, Dad DON’T LOOK!"
When Shouta knocked on the boys' bedroom door - it was open but he always made a point of knocking anyway - he didn't expect the boys to freak out, Paxa going so far as to throw himself across the computer, blanket fashion, and for Izuku to leap to block his view of the same computer, arms spread wide, eyes wider, saying again, “Don't look, don't look i’s a s’prise!”
“Hmmmmm, a surprise is it?” Watching Izuku nod furiously and Paxa flap a tendril at him, he heaved an amused huff and said, “Diners ready, will your surprise wait till then?”
Carefully closing the computer as he pooled off the desk and into his normal shape, Paxa signed, “It will last longer than that, we are in the investigation and research phase of the surprise so it will take some more time until it is done.”
The little form drooped suddenly as he continued, “If indeed it is even possib…”
He never got the chance to finish because Izuku hit his knees beside him, wrapping him in a hug as he said, “Of course it's possible!!! We just gotta know more ‘sall, we c’n do it!”
“Dad dad dad, go on, just give uz a second, k’ dad?”
Smiling, he left them to it, no matter what the two of them were planning, he doubted they could get in too much trouble with it. Saying, “Don’t take too long kiddos.” he slouched back to the kitchen, telling Hizashi, “They seem to be working on something. Something,” he held his hand by his mouth and whispered, in his best secret agent voice (yes he had one, the kids loved it!) “Something super duper top secret!”

While their folks were in the kitchen, Izuku took the chance to tell Paxa, “How ‘bout we talk ta Nezu-Ojisan? He’ll know how we can do it! We gots good ideas and he's got all the know-how so just for now, common, let's go eat!” both boys cheered as they ran for the kitchen, Paxa feeling that they may have a chance at his plan after all.
****
Nezu-Ojisan listened to them both as they rambled on about what they wanted to do, how they thought it might work, and while he was impressed at how close they were to figuring it out, even if they didn't have the materials to actually make it, he thought some help was in order so he sent them to Power Loader, reminding them to “Tell him all about it and don’t leave anything out!”
Well, Higari had been seriously annoying lately so sicking the boys on him with a difficult and complicated project that would entail at least thirty minutes of nonstop explaining?
A fitting revenge for his pissing him off? Yes, it was. Petty, but fitting.
****
Working with Power Loader was like a dream come true for both Izuku and Paxa, especially as he let them both be involved with every stage of their invention. It was important for Paxa to not be too directionalized, so the device had to nestle in the middle of his folds, and it had to fit snugly enough to not slip and yet not interfere with his movement from one shape to another and to not weigh enough to unbalance him as he threw himself from anchor point to anchor point or even as he raced his brother to the swings.
And it had to be powerful enough to cover decent distances, like, from one end of a playground to the other.
***
When it was finished it looked like a simple strip of fabric, about six inches long, with several loops attached at the back, loops for him to weave himself in and out of to keep it solidly in place. Working the device all the way to his middle took well over ten minutes of solid effort to get it where he wanted it, and then it took well more than an hour, this time WITHOUT Izuku’s help - after all, the finished surprise was for him too, he just knew about it beforehand - to get all the final tweaks and problems ironed out. He was most pleased that his own power would power it, which meant he didn't need a battery, both because of the weight and the charging time. This way, it would always be on.
He had already decided how he hoped his family would react so, working on the wavelengths, making sure to be in the range he was aiming for, after all, he was still really young, it would be weird if he got the frequencies too low and go too high and he may as well be a mouse but, overall, he was really happy he had modeled it on his brother, albeit slightly higher and a touch more mellow.
‘Now,’ he thought with increased nervousness, ‘to try it out on my family. I really hope they like it!’
Walking home with Nezu-Ojisan that same afternoon he tried it out a few times, making sure it still worked right, more to calm his nerves than anything else but they did calm a bit when Ojisan told him how nice it was, and how much his dads were going to love it.
Opening the door, he signed to Pops that he wanted everyone to meet him at the couch and, with a quizzical look, he obeyed, calling out, “Sho, Paxa wants us in the living room, I think it's time for the great reveal!”
The words that floated from the back of the apartment, “About time, the suspense was about to kill our second son!” made him almost lose control of his new device but he managed to hold it in, only looping his arms and bouncing in place with amusement, his dad was soooo funny!!!
He crossed two of his legs in lieu of fingers and hoped it would make the luck work right - Izuku had explained all about ways to make good luck but he still wasn't sure what exactly it was about crossed fingers that actually made good luck happen but maybe he would ask Dad or Pops later - and that they really would love it.
Seeing his dad carrying Izuku in with him, upside down and laughing, he bounced even harder, gesturing them all to line up, leaving Ojisan to settle on the couch, surreptitiously recording the entire thing when Paxa drew himself up to his fullest height, activated his new support item, and said in a clear, and childish voice….
“Thank you for being my family, I love you all so MUCH! ”
A frozen moment of shock, followed by the amazed cries of his folks, his brother whooping at the voice he had chosen, and the group hug that soaked him in the happy tears of his Pops, well, he was ignoring the fact that Dad was crying a little bit too ‘cause Dad always pretended he wasn’t but then Izuku started too and then that was all three of them getting him wet but well, it really was the best present he could ever think to give them so a few tears were to be expected.
And if, later, they watched the recording of it a few times, well, never mind, that’s what families do with their baby’s first words!
