Begin With Your Name: Dumbass

Summary:

Begin With Your Name (webcomic) fusion. Wei Wuxian sees a girl, from Gusu High, while waiting at the bus stop and Wei Wuxian falls in love almost instantly.

Chapter Text

Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian were walking to the bus stop after class when Wei Wuxian spotted her. The girl had long hair that flowed freely down her back. Her uniform looked like it belonged on Gusu High, a white pullover over her uniform shirt, her skirt was blue and skimmed the back of her knees.

Here I go! Wish me luck, I’m going to get her number!

Jiang Cheng clapped behind his adopted sister’s back, rolling his eyes. good luck.

Wei Wuxian walked confidently up to the other girl, a skip in her step. She waved as she got closer to the other girl.

From where Jian Cheng was standing he could see Wei Wuxian’s body fidgeting back and forth, face growing more red by the second. Not even half a second passed before Wei Wuxian turned and awkwardly made her way back to Jiang Cheng.

“Did you get it?” Jiang Cheng asked as Wei Wuxian crouched at his feet, face going into her knees.

“UGH”

“Tell me you at least got her name right?”

Wei Wuxian yelled in frustration and covered her arms over her head.

“Why would you even bother going over there!!!???!?!”

“You don’t understand!!!”

She looked at me and my head went blank!

Lan Wangji had been waiting for the bus after classes, textbook in her hands when the random girl came up.

“Hi Hi!” the girl waved. “I-”

Lan Wangji turned her head to get a better look at the girl. The girl had on a grey skirt, and purple uniform tie, a red cardigan hung snuggly around her waist.

Staring, Lan Wangji raised her eyebrow.

Was she not going to finish talking?

“... Pardon?”

The strange girl got a strange look on her face before turning around and waddling in the opposite direction.

“Wangji, I have a class representative meeting and I know you don’t have piano lessons; would you mind waiting for me after classes tomorrow?”

Lan Wangi glanced at her older brother Lan Xichen.

“Mn…”

Wei Wuxian stood at the same bus stop as yesterday, hoping to see the beautiful girl from Gusu. Looking around she sat on the bench pulling her phone out of her backpack. After half an hour, she sighed and made her way to a cafe across the street.

Chapter Text

"...Morning." Wei Wuxian mumbled as she slumped down the stairs.

Jiang Cheng did a double take; Wei Wuxian looked insane; eyes dull, dark circles, hair crazy.

"What is wrong with you? You look awful!"

Wei Wuxian sighed exaggeratedly. "That girl from Gusu High, she hasn't been at the bus station. What if she got sick?!?!?"

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes, "Your ugly face probably scared her away."

"HUH?! No way, I didn't even say a full sentence to her!" Wei Wuxian cried plopping down at the dinning table.

"That's the fucking problem! You see a random person come over, red faced, not saying anything!" Jiang Cheng smacked Wei Wuxian over the head with his text book.

At that moment, Jiang Yanli looked over to the two. "A-xian, what happened to you?"

Putting his drink to his mouth Jiang Cheng grumbled, "She got dumped by a girl she hasn't even talked to yet."

"I know just the thing to cheer you up." Jiang Yanli scooped a large, chili covered, egg onto a plate and handed it to her sister.

"Awe Jiejie is the best~"

Three days later:

"Hey, Wei Wuxian! I heard you were asking about a girl from Gusu. Her name is Lan Zhan, courtesy name, Wangji, 1st year. She's pretty famous"

Wei Wuxian looked over to Nie Huisang, grabbing his shoulders.

"Wah, she's the same age as us? I thought she was older."

"My family has known hers for a long time. She doesn't have a lot of friends. Her brother is the 4th year class rep. and her uncle is apparently to dean., so it'll be hard to ask her out."

"I owe you Huisang! Scouts honor, I'll buy whatever you want from the cafeteria later!"

Jiang Cheng came up behind the two, laying an arm around Nie Huisang's shoulder, "You have her name, what a feat"

Wei Wuxian looked over to her brother. "ChengCheng are you bullying me?"

"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOu cal-"

From the corner of her eye, Wei Wixuan spotted a white and blue uniform, black hair floating behind.

"Ah. Hold this! I you don't see me later leave without me!" Wei Wuxian shouted, throwing her jacket at her brother.

"WHAT?!" But Jiang Cheng was too late, Wei Wuxian was already sprinting around the corner.

"wangji! WaNgJi! AH LAN ZHAN!" Wei Wuxian yelled, running after the girl in blue.

Turning Lan Wangji found the girl from the bus stop coming to a stop, panting as she bowed at the waist.

"MY NAME IS WEI YING!"

Lan Wangji was startled by the outburst but didn't show it. Instead she barely quirked her eyebrow.

"Uh... sorry... for suddenly stopping you. I saw you... and... Um... I'm from Yunmeng High. We take the same bus and I see you a lot... I wanted to talk to talk to you!

Lan Wangji stopped breathing!

"Could I help you carry your books?"

Lan Wangji could feel her ears burning up as she looked to the girl in front of her. She turned quickly, walking fast away.

Chapter Text

Why is she running?!?!?!?

Wei Wuxian stared dumbstruck for a second.

If I don't go after her...

"LAN ZHAN!!! I'm a 1st year at Yunmeng High School. My name is Wei Wuxian! My student ID number is 14680! I like playing sports and my grades are pretty good. After school I always see you at the station. I thought... I really like this girl and I want to be her friend. But I get really nervous! I'm really sorry if I scared you!"

The girl is blue and white slowly came to a stop. When her feet came together she turned around slightly.

"Can you give me another chance?"

Wei Wuxian could feel her heart beating out of her chest.

"Let me see your student ID." Lan Wangji demanded holding her hand out.

"ah... okay." Reaching into her pocket, Wei Wuxian grabbed around until she found a rectangle of plastic. She instantly handed it over to Lan Wangji.

Lan Wangji could feel a snicker rising up and it must have showed on her face.

"Does it really look that bad?!"

"Mph- " Lan Wangji shook her head.

Wei Wuxian put her hand in her hair. "...Did you want help carrying your books?"

Lan Wangji's ears burned again; " Its not heavy."

Wei Wuxian looked down at Lan Wangji's hands, finger coming to scratch his nose slightly. "I was hoping to talk some more with you."

"You... can hold this one..."

"AH OKAY!" Wei Wuxian said excitedly, grabbing at Lan Wangji's book.

The two girls walked side by side until Lan Wangji came to a slow stop.

Wei Wuxian came to a stop beside her. "Is this your stop?"

Lan Wangji looked up at the building before nodding to Wei Wuxian. "Thank you."

Before Wei Wuxian could say anything else, Lan Wangji grabbed the book and walked to the door.

Before she reached the door, Lan Wangji looked back at Wei Wuxian, slightly raised her hand and disappeared.

"YES!!!!"

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng ran through the pouring rain, getting soaked from head to toe.

“If you want to run for it, do it alone! Why drag me with you dumbass!” Jiang Cheng yelled, backpack coming up over his head to try and protect his eyes.

“I’d look stupid running by myself! We don’t look as stupid if we run together. This is what being young is all about!”

When the two almost reached the bus stop, Jiang Cheng glanced over and saw the same girl that Wei Wuxian had been drooling over.

“Hey is that Lan Wangji?”

“WHERE?!” Wei Wuxian exclaimed, instantly coming to a stop.

“Over there, with a blue umbrella.”

Wei Wuxian's eyes widened, mouth dropping open “!!!!”

Sliding up behind the other Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian leaned under the blue umbrella.

“Lan Zhan!”

Startled Lan Wangji jumped slightly.

“Wei Ying, you don’t have an umbrella?”

“Hahaha, the rain is brutal! My clothes are soaked you can see underneath.”

Wei Wuxian pulled at her collar and tie. Lan Wangji’s ears turned red as she pushed her back into Wei Wuxian’s arms.
“Cover yourself.”

Wei Wuxian laughed, pushing the bag away.

“It’s okay! I wore a tank top underneath. Hahaha! Did I make you nervous?”

Lan Wangji quickly moved her eyes away, hand reaching into her backpack.

“I have a napkin…”

“Ah, Lan Zhan there’s no need”

“...” The girl in white ignored her, looking for the napkin still.

“Here, Lan Zhan let me hold your umbrella .”

Lan Wangji gave Wei Wuxian a questioning look, but handed it over anyway.

“Pwease help me wipe my face~”

Lip turning up in a soft smile, Lan Wangji started patting Wei Wuxian’s face.

“Why are you being like this?”

“Ah~ there’s a cute girl here with me~”

“Hey dumbass, can we move? I’m getting soaked!”

“Sorry ChengCheng!’

“WAH I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT!”

Wei Wuxian looked over to Lan Wangji, hand coming to gesture to the boy.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! This is my brother Jiang Cheng”

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes but still greeted the girl, “Hello”

“ChengCheng this is Lan Zhan.”

“... Hello.”

Jiang Cheng bowed slightly, “Could we hitch a ride under your umbrella? Just to the convenience store. Wei Wuxian will buy you oden, while I get an umbrella.”

“... Mh.” Lan Wangji nodded “We can cross up there.”

From the corner of her eye, Wei Wuxian saw a car coming; water splashing up from its wheels.

“Careful!”

Pulling Lan Wangji away from the water, she pushed the umbrella forward to cover the two of them. Lan Wangji landed into Wei Wuxian’s chest with a thump; she could feel the other girl's heart pounding.

“Ugh, watch where you’re going!”

One of Wei Wuxian’s hands came up to pat Lan Wangji down.

“Did you get splashed!?”

Lan Wangji shook her head, ears and cheeks bright red. Wei Wuxian grabbed her arm and pulled her further from the road.

“Let’s walk on the inside.”

Neither girl noticed Jiang Cheng, who had gotten completely drenched.

Chapter Text

The bell over the door of the convenience store chimed softly as the trio made their way in.

Jiang Cheng grabbed an umbrella, and turned to Wei Wuxian, “Hey, I’m going to leave first.”

“Thank you~” Wei Wuxian responded, dapping Jiang Cheng’s fist.

He went to the counter, purchased the umbrella and walked out.

Lan Wangji, who had been looking down the isles, grabbed a hand towel and placed it at the register.

16.80

“Ah Lan Zhan, what do you want to eat?”

Grabbin up the towel, Lan Wangji put it in Wei Wuxian’s hands.

“Dry off first, you will catch a cold if you stay wet.”

“You bought a towel just for that? Thank you!”

Lan Wangji nodded and turned, hand coming to cover her fluttering heart.

Picking up the hot bowl of instant konjac silk noodles, Lan Wangji pulled out her chopsticks.

“What is that?” Wei Wuxian asked, leaning over the bowl.

“You haven’t had it before?”

“No”

“Want to try it?”

“OKAY! Ahhh- ” Wei Wuxian exaggeratedly opened her mouth.

Lan Wangji instead handed her another pair of chopsticks with a knot of noodles on it.

“...thank you.” Wei Wuxian blushed, a large bead of sweat rolling down her cheek.

Lan Wangji looked away nervously.

“Ah it’s so bland~ why doesn’t it have chili?”

Lan Wangji glanced over at Wei Wuxian before picking up a chili fish ball. “Would you… like a fishball?”

She pushed her toothpick to Wei Wuxian who blinked blankly at her for a second before leaning down and eating it.

“MMMm it’s so good!”

“You can have all of it.”

Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened, “For real?! Lan Zhan!!!”

When the two girls finished eating, they headed of down the street, umbrella overhead. Lan Wangji glanced quickly to Wei Wuxian.

“If we you ever come over, I will treat you to cake.”

“Wah Lan Zhan can bake?!”

“Mh-”

Wei Wuxian hopped up and down, “Yes yes! Oh wait, I don’t have your contact. Let me give you my phone number!”

Lan Wangji glanced at her phone before handing it to Wei Wuxian who quickly began typing away. Handing the phone back, Lan Wangji looked at the name: <3 A-YING<3. Blushing slightly she clicked the call button.

Wei Wuxian’s phone rang in her hand
Yes! Phone number acquired!!!

When the two girls reached a familiar apartment building, they scurried under an awning. Lan Wangji closed her blue umbrella, shaking it to get the rain off.

“Bye bye Lan Zhan~”

Lan Wangji glanced up and nodded. As Wei Wuxian began to step away, Lan Wangji called her name.

“Wei Ying… I… it made me happy to talk with you.”

Wei Wuxian felt herself smile, “me too.”

Lan Wangji instantly turned around and sprinted into the building. Wei Wuxian couldn’t stop herself from jumping straight up into the air!

The next day at school, Jiang Cheng sighed tiredly everytime he looked at Wei Wuxian.

Chapter Text

“ACHOO!”

Lan Wangji sneezed, hands coming up to cover her mouth and nose while she waited at the bus stop. Wei Wuxian, who stood beside her, looked over in concern.

“Lan Zhan, do you have a cold?”

Lan Wanji shrugged slightly.

“Let me give you my jacket!” Wei Wuxian exclaimed as she started pulling off her red cardigan.

“You will get cold… no.” Lan Wanji refuses pulling the cardigan back around Wei Wuxian’s shoulders.

“It’s okay, I exercise a lot, I’ll be fine!”

“...no…” Lan Wangji said hesitantly while bouncing on the balls of her feet to warm herself up. Suddenly in a surprising display of courage she reached forward, arms coming around Wei Wuxians waist,  beneath her cardigan. “ You can block out the wind.”

Wei Wuxian’s body locked up and blood rushed up to her face. She could feel her face heat up and knew that everyone around could see her blush.

That night when Lan Wangji got out of the shower, she was bundled in her long sleeve bunny shirt and matching pajama pants. I’ll read a little before I go to bed tonight.

Lan Wangji looked at her phone when it buzzed from its place on the bed. Ah…a message?

Looking at her phone, <3 A-YING <3, popped up on the messages app.

  • Make sure that you drink warm water and dry your hair so that you don't get sick
  • Wei Ying is very caring
  • I’m not caring to just anyone

Lan Wangji felt her ears begin to burn as stared at the text messages, suddenly she remembered that she had told Wei Wuxian that she would invite her over.

  • I invited you over for cake, are you free Sunday afternoon?
  • YES YES I’ll come over on Sunday!
  • I will see you then… goodnight
  • GOODNIGHT LAN ZHAN!!!! <3

On Sunday, Wei Wuxian made her way to Lan Wangji’s house. She wore grey skinny jeans with a white t-shirt, overtop was a black leather jacket with red details. She decided to do something with her hair, and decided on a half-up-do. Walking up to the building that she had walked Lan Wangji to in the past she looked for the buzzer that would call Lan Wangji’s apartment.

“Who is it?”

“Hello~ It’s Wei Wuxian!”

“... Come up.”

The security door opened and Wei Wuxian stepped in, making her way to the elevators. Wei Wuxian rushed on before she clicked the button to the 16th floor. When the elevator dinged at the 16th floor and the doors opened Wei Wuxian could see Lan Wangji waiting for her. Lan Wangji looked as elegant as always, she had on a white long sleeve turtleneck with a blue pinafore dress over top. Her hair was in a soft bun at the back of her head.

Wei Wuxian’s eyes lit up as she saw Lan Wangji. I don’t know if everyone is like this but it's as if… everyday… everyday I like her more and more.

Chapter Text

Lan Wangji opened a nondescript door and walked in, welcoming Wei Wuxian as she did so. Wei Wuxian toed off her shoes as she looked around.

“Are your parents here?”

“Uncle and brother went out.”

Lan Wangi made her way from the hallway and Wei Wuxian followed her into the living room.

“Sit… I will make tea.”

Lan Wangji handed her the remote to the TV before walking into what was presumably her kitchen.Wei Wuxian sat on a large white sofa awkwardly, hands clutching the TV remote. Wei Wuxian stared down at the remote for a solid ten seconds before standing to her feet and making her way to find Lan Wangji.

“Lan Zhan, do you need any help?”

Lan Wangji shook her head as she went back to making tea. Wei Wuxian leaned against the door frame to the kitchen and watched. Lan Wangji looked back to Wei Wuxian in confusion.

“Why aren’t you sitting?”

Wei Wuxian shrugged her shoulders exaggeratedly. “I wanted to stay with Lan Zhan.”

A slight blush came to Lan Wangji’s cheeks, “Then you can hold this.”
“Okay!”

Weeks earlier

“Huh? Are you stupid?”

“Just tell me how to ask a girl out~”

“It's different between guys and girls. If I constantly hang around a girl, even if I don't do anything, it might seem like I'm interested. Being a guy makes it romantic. You are a girl, so everything that you would do would still be seen as normal. The most important thing is to establish attraction. ”

“Awe ChengCheng is smart!”

Back to Present

“Um…Lan Zhan… Where is your bathroom?”

Once making it into the bathroom and locking the door, Wei Wuxian’s body collapsed into a ball of embarrassment. I already said it, why am I blushing so hard now?! Wei Wuxian glanced into the mirror, face red like a tomato. Why is this so hard?

“Wei Ying. The tea is finished.”

“Ah! I’m coming!”

As Wei Wuxian grabbed the door handle - to exit the bathroom - it broke off. “!!!!!!!”

“Wei Ying, are you alright?”

Wei Wuxian looked up from the handle in her hand; “Um… Lan Zhan, I think I broke the door!”

“The handle was already broken. If you unlatch the door, I can open it from this side.”

Wei Wuxian pushed the latch open and the door burst open. The two girls looked at each other awkwardly before Wei Wuxian threw her arms around Lan Wangji.

“Hahaha. Lan Zhan, you saved me!”

As Lan Wangji escorted Wei Wuxian out of the apartment, Wei Wuxian stopped walking and turned to the girl beside her.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan. Is there anyone that you like?” Wei Wuxian asked.

Lan Wangji froze, “Mm.”

After staring at Lan Wangji for a few seconds, Wei Wuxian put her hand on the back of her neck, laughing embarrassedly.

“Nevermind… I wouldn’t know them even if you told me.”

“I brought you a gift when I came over, I almost forgot to give it to you.” Wei Wuxian switched topics abruptly.

Lan Wangji tilted her head slightly, “What is it?”

“I left the bag in your living room, you’ll find out when you open it~” With that said, Wei Wuxian ran out of the building, hand waving over her shoulder.

Wei Wuxian had brought Lan Wangji a mint plant.

Chapter Text

When Wei Wuxian got to class the next day, she finally noticed that she had a text fromLan Wangji :  ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ ZHANZHAN

  • You forgot your jacket at my house. I will bring it to you.
  • Sorry! I just saw this! Let’s meet after school!

Nie Huisang glanced at Wei Wuxian from the desk directly in front of her. “Teacher is going to take your phone for using it in class.”

“I’m shutting it o-”

As soon as Wei Wuxian clicked the power button, a giant crash sounded and pain shot up her arm. Everyone in the classroom screamed as the window shattered, throwing glass everywhere.

“AAHHH!” “Wei Wuxian, are you okay?” “What was THAT?”

Earlier

“You probably didn’t think we’d come to find you.”

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry!”

“It’s such an important matter, we just let it fly. Didn’t I tell you yesterday that you need to pay up? You didn’t forget did you?”

“We thought we were just playing for fun! We didn’t know we were betting on money! I don’t have that much!”

“Hey, Wen Chao, we need to go.”

“We need to teach these punks a little lesson. A simple ‘we don’t have money’ doesn’t suffice.” With that last statement said, Wen Chao pulled his cigarette out of his mouth and smashed it onto his victim’s back.

“AAH!”

Leaning down, Wen Chao picked up a backpack from the ground. “Let’s see what you have in this broke ass bag.”

“Don’t touch my stuff! Give it back!”

Wen Chao stood suddenly, lifting the back pack to let the textbooks fall on the other boy’s head.

“Are you kidding? Who would want your shit? Let’s go.”

Wen Chao and his groupies made to leave.

“HOLD ON.”

The group turned back slowly. “...eh?”

Towering over the group was Nie Mingjue in his Gusu high uniform, basketball in hand.

“I asked what class you were from.”

“Who the fuck do you think you are? A teacher? I suggest you mind your own business.”

“What is not my business?” Nei Mingjue asked, hulking frame standing casually.

As soon as the words left his mouth, Wen Chao kicked the basketball from his hands. The ball rammed into a window, glass shattering.

“Go fetch your ball, you big oaf.”

Wen Chao turned away and walked off, groupies laughing behind him.

Nie Mingjiu glanced up at the broken window and saw his younger brother’s head poking out.

“Are you sure only your arm is scratched?”

“Hahaha don’t worry! It’s only my arm!” Wei Wuxian laughed as her classmates surrounded her in the nurse's office.

“Rumor is that I was a few guys from Wen High School.”

“If that’s not overdoing it…”

Nie Huisang glanced around the office quietly before turning to Jiang Cheng.

“It’s so noisy, I’m going to leave first.”

“Okay.”

As soon as Nie Huisang opened the door, he saw his older brother. “Fuck.”

As Jiang Cheng left the classroom, at the end of the day, he looked expectantly back and forth.

“If you’re looking for Wei Wuxian, she went home already.”

Wei Wuxian could see Lan Wangji standing alone silently at the bus stop. Sneaking up behind the other girl, Wei Wuxian clasped her hand around Lan Wangji’s eyes.

“Guess who~”

Lan Wangji lifted her hand, touching the top of Wei Wuxian’s head and sliding her hand down her face. Her fingers caressed Wei Wuxains cheek softly and then her lips.

“Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian’s face turned bright red and her arm came up to cover her face

“...”

“Don’t mind me Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian said, trying and failing, to make Lan Wangji ignore her reaction.

{ATTENTION BUS BOARDING}

“The bus is here.” Lan Wangji said out loud as she turned to step up onto the vehicle.

“WAIT!” Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji’s wrist firmly. Lan Wangji looked over startled.

“Don’t ride the bus, walk with me.”

“Does your arm still hurt?”

“Ah, a little. Don’t worry.” Wei Wuxian said, waving Lan Wangji’s worry away.

“Give me your hand.” Lan Wangji, in a very large show of confidence, grabbed Wei Wuxian’s hand putting a soft kiss over the bandages. “The pain is now gone.”

Wei Wuxian’s brain short-circuited and she stared blankly ahead. In front of her, Lan Wangji’s entire body appeared to be locked up, face flooding with red.

“Lan Zhan?”

Lan Wangji turned around fast, making her way home.

“AH, Lan Zhan! WAIT WAIT! LAN ZHAN! LAN ZHAN! Don’t walk so fast! OW OW MY ARM IT HURTS SO MUCH!! WAH!!!”

Lan Wangji stopped in her tracks at Wei Wuxian’s cries, face still red.

“...I’m sorry.”

“AH! Why is Lan Zhan suddenly apologizing?”

“Wei Ying is hurt. I should not be so unagreeable… You should not make fun of me.”

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian stood in silence, just staring at each other awkwardly. Lan Wangi’s face began to burn red again. She covered her face with her hands and leaned her head forward. Hands and head resting on Wei Wuxian’s chest.

“Lan Zhan~”

Lan Wangji refused to lift her head. Wei Wuxian couldn’t control herself, she grabbed Lan Wangji’s bra strap, snapping it against her back.

“Wei Ying!”

“Lan Zhan lifted her head!”

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian sat side by side on a park bench.

“I am not good around people… I don’t have any friends… That is why I like to read books… But… then you introduced yourself.”

Chapter Text

“Lan Zhan wasn’t that SO good~” Wei Wuxian sighed as she climbed up the stairs behind Lan Wangji.

“It was alright.”

“HUH?!”

Wei Wuxian grabbed the hem of Lan Wangji’s skirt softly to stop her ascent.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, you are terrible at small talk. Let's try again.”

Lan Wangji looked down at Wei Wuxian before leaning down slightly.

“What you eat is not important, what is important is who you eat with.”

“Ah! Then were the noodles that you ate with me delicious?”

“Mmm… it was.”

“GOOD, Lan Zhan is forgiven!”

When the two girls reached the middle of the pedestrian bridge, Lan Wangji stopped, placing her hand in the air.

“Here is fine, you do not need to walk me home.”

“???”

“It is late, your home is in the opposite direction. I can walk by myself.”

“EH?!” After a few seconds of staring, Wei Wuxian gave in, hand coming to rub her neck. “Fine.”

As she turned to walk home, Lan Wangji stopped her.
“Wei Ying! Do you remember the first day we talked?”
“Of course I do!’

Lan Wangji looked down softly, ear turning red.

“Thank you, for chasing after me. See you tomorrow.”

Wei Wuxian stood stunned, as Lan Wangji turned to walk home. Wei Wuxian’s head finally turned towards the other girl as her words sunk in. She had to reach Lan Wangji.

“LAN ZHAN!”

Lan Wangji looked backwards.

“I’M SORRY! I LIKE YOU!”

Lan Wangji straightened, confused.

“I like you too? What are you apologizing for?”

Wei Wuxian glanced down, hand forming into a fist at her side.
“When I say ‘like’ it probably means something different than you think. Do you understand? I adore you! I love you! I want to be with you everyday!”

Chapter Text

Lan Wangji was silent for a long time. Wei Wuxian felt her face heat up as she looked back up to Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji’s face was bright red.

“!!! I’m going home.”

“I’ll walk with you!”

“I do not want you to.”

Lan Wangji turned and stalked off. Wei Wuxian followed. She didn’t talk as she walked behind Lan Wangji.

“Wei Wuxian, what exactly do you want? Stop following me.”

“Am I annoying you?” Wei Wuxian clasped her hands behind her back as she looked down slightly.

“Am I… not annoying?”

“Very annoying!”
“Great!” One of Wei Wuxian’s hands came forward, punching her own upturned hand. ”Since I like you, that means our feelings are complimentary!”

“What?! I’m going home. Do not follow me!”

“NO WAY LAN ZHAN! If we leave like this you will try to avoid me in the future!”

“Then what do you want to do?”

“I want to walk Lan Zhan home.” Wei Wuxian stated firmly as she leaned forward. “Also, I like you.”

Lan Wangji’s face turned red again. “...How can someone like you exist!!”

Lan Wangji eventually relented to Wei Wuxian following her. As the two made their way to Lan Wangji’s apartment, rain started to sprinkle down.

“EH?! And now it's raining!”

Immediately it began to downpour.

“Ah! Let’s find shelter!”

Wei Wuxian quickly pulled her school back off her shoulder, holding it in place over Lan Wangji’s head.

“You are getting wet! What about your arm?!”

“It’s fine!”

“It’s not, are you an idiot?”

Lan Wangji grabbed Wei Wuxian’s arm, pulling it under the bag as the two girls ran from the rain. The two finally found shelter at an apartment entrance. Wei Wuxian's face was turned up.

“What are you smiling about?”

“EH? I wasn’t smiling.”

“I saw you.”

The rain did eventually stop.

“Let’s go! I’ll walk you home.”

Wei Wuxian walked out from under the awning.

“Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian looked back at the other girl. Lan Wangji’s bangs covered her eyes slightly and her hands were clasped together in front of herself.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I am unable to return your feelings.”

Wei Wuxian froze. The leftover rain still trickled softly off the gutters. Wei Wuxian looked down at Lan Wangji’s feet.

“Did I disgust you?”

“How can you say that?!” Lan Wangji shouted. “Wei Ying is beautiful and interesting! I always feel happy when I am with you. How could anyone not like you?”

“...But you don’t like m-”

“I LIKE YOU! That is why I do not want to laugh this off.”

“Wait, Lan Zhan, I’m confused! You like - So… we do like each other?”

“No!”

Lan Wangji collapsed into herself, arms and face coming down to meet her knees. Wei Wuxian moved forward and crouched next to Lan Wangji.

“You don’t need to reciprocate my feelings. You don’t need to return my feelings. You don’t need to take responsibility. I… just don’t want you to refuse.”

Lan Wangji still kept her face pressed into her arms.

“Wei Ying is stupid. I do not want to talk to you.”

“Lan Zhan~ Thank you for listening to me… can I pat Lan Zhan’s head-”

Wei Wuxian’s reached out to touch Lan Wangji’s hair but before she could touch the other girl she was pushed to the ground. Lan Wangji buried her face into Wei Wuxian’s chest as she sniffled softly. Wei Wuxian eventually reached her arm up to cup the back of Lan Wangji’s head, fingers threading into her soft hair.

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian didn’t see Lan Wangji until over a week later. Lan Wangji wasn’t at the bus stop and so Wei Wuxian waited by herself. After about twenty minutes the Wei Wuxian saw a familiar blue skirt and brown satchel out of the corner of her eyes.

“AH! LAN ZHAN!”

From where Wei Wuxian was sitting she could see Lan Wangji’s ears and cheeks turn bright red. The bus turned up at that exact moment and Lan Wangji was the first to board, Wei Wuxian right behind her.

“You haven’t been biking recently…” The way Lan Wangji said it, it was almost a question.

“Yeah!”

“...Why?”

Wei Wuxian crowded against Lan Wangji, eyebrows wiggling, “You want to guess?”

Lan Wangji put her back up to Wei Wuxian’s chest to push her away from her personal space.

“I…How should I-”

Wei Wuxian broke Lan Wangji off mid-sentence “There’s an empty seat!”

Wei Wuxian plopped herself right on the seat before she patted long legs, “Come on, sit in my lap!”

Lan Wangji’s eyes narrowed in deadpan, “I do not want to.”

In an instant Wei Wuxian shot up, grabbing Lan Wangji’s hand, spinning her to catch her off balance. Lan Wangji was in the seat, staring forward slightly dazed.

“HAHA, I’m just kidding Lan Zhan!”

Lan Wangji tried to stand again, “I don’t need to sit.” She was halfway up when Wei Wuxian puts her hands on Lan Wangji’s shoulders.

“Don’t be modest.”

“I am not being mode-”

“Then be good!”

Suddenly, while the two girls are bickering, a man sits heavily into the seat. He barely glances up at the girls before he crosses his arms and looks out the window.

The two girls hold the handrails for the rest of the ride.

[Passengers boarding please place coin in slot]

[Passengers disembarking please exit through the rear door]

From the front of the bus, Wei Wuxina and Lan Wangji saw a small boy walk down the center aisle of the bus. Wei Wuxian was standing next to Lan Wangji, who was sitting. Upon seeing Lan Wangji the little boy cried out, “Wah~ Jiejie you are so pretty!”

“Thank you~ Sister will give you her seat alright?”

“Is that okay?”

“Mmm.”

Wei Wuxian watches as Wangji stands from her seat and the little boy takes her place. But as Lan Wangji reaches for the handrail, she hears the little boy.
“Jiejie, your undies are white!”

Instantly Wei Wuxian smacks the little boy's hands, and pulls Lan Wangji towards herself. Wei Wuxian takes off her jacket and wraps it around Lan Wangji’s waist, hands just barely caressing her sides. When she finishes, she squats in front of the boy and grabs his head with a single hand.

“Do you know that what you did was wrong?!”

The little boy brings his hands up to block his face, “Are you going to bully me?”

“I am going to teach you a life lesson. Listen up!”
Wei Wuxian slaps her own chest exaggeratedly, “Only I am allowed to see jiejie’s underwear!”

“WEI WUXIAN!!!!”

The bus was almost to the final stop when Wei Wuxian noticed that the little boy from earlier was asleep.

“AH! Didi, didi, wake up! How can you fall asleep? Which stop are you supposed to get off at?”

The little boy rubs his eyes, “...mh…grandpa…”

“Aye yo, kid I’m not yo-”

Wei Wuxian was cut off when a pair of little arms came around her neck.

Wei Wuxian continued to pat the boy on the face softly until he eventually woke up.

“HUH?! You missed your stop?!” Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian cried at the same time.

The little boy looked at the floor of the bus, tears coming to his eyes, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”

Wei Wuxian rolled her eyes at the boy from her crouched position, “How should we know which stop is yours?”

The little boy crawls down from his seat, “I’ll get off at the next stop and walk home I guess.”

Wei Wuxian places a hand on the boy’s shoulder, “Will you be okay by yourself?”

At that, the little boy’s head rushes towards Lan Wangji, “Will pretty jiejie walk with me?”

When the bus comes to a stop Wei Wuxian grabs the little boy’s backpack as it is still around his shoulders, to keep him in sight but to also keep him from her Lan Zhan. The little boy looks up to Wei Wuxian as they step off the bus stairs, “It’s hard to walk with you holding my bag like that.”

Wei Wuxian rolls her eyes as she continues her pace, “just bear with it, we’ll get you home soon.”

The little boy kicks one foot in front of the other, “I can go by myself-!”

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji walk side by side, with the young boy pushed slightly in front of them until the boy points to a large apartment building.

“Alright kid, can you get home by yourself from here?”

“Yeah.”

With the affirmation, Wei Wuxian pushes the boy forward while letting go of the boy’s bag. She turns back to Lan Wangji, when she hears a yell from behind her.

“Wait a moment!”

Turning around Wei Wuxian sees the little boy reaching into his backpack, before pulling out a blue wrapper. He places it in Wei Wuxian’s hand and then bows slightly.

“Um… I only have one piece. Thank you for taking me home.”

“It’s alright we don’t mind. But don’t harass jiejiies on the bus okay?”

The little boy nods before running into the apartment building.

Wei Wuxian stretches her arms above her head and groans loudly.

“What should we do now, do we wait for another bus? We are pretty close to your place.”

Lan Wangji nods a second, “I can walk back from here.”

Wei Wuxian gives Lan Wangji a large thumbs up “Okay~ be careful Lan Zhan. I’ll walk to the bus stop and find a ride home.”

“...Oh… I’ll see you later.”

Wei Wuxian turns back to walk to the bus stop alone. Aw I should have walked Lan Zhan home~ Wei Wuxian stretches her arms into the air one more time before she realizes that she left her uniform jacket around Lan Wangji’s waist. Oh no, Mrs.Yu will kill me!

Wei Wuxian turns fast and begins sprinting back to where she left Lan Wangji as she pulls her phone out of her pocket.

  • Wait! Don’t move! Stay where you are!
  • What is wrong?
  • I forgot my uniform!

As soon as she saw Lan Wangji she gave a giant sigh of relief, “Sorry, sorry!”

“Why are you running?”

“I didn’t want you to have to wait!”

Wei Wuxian came to a stop, huffing in air. She reached forward and placed her hands on her knees. “Wah~”

“I did not realize that I still had your jacket, I’m sorry.”

“Hahaha it’s okay Lan Zhan~”

After the bus home finally stopped, Wei Wuxian hopped off. Sooo hungry- Upon seeing a food stand she ran up and ordered a chili stuffed fried chicken. Taking a large bite, Wei Wuxian felt her entire body light up. Pulling her phone from her pocket, she snapped a picture and sent it to Lan Wangji.

  • I bought chicken!
  • How does it taste?
  • Surprising
  • Surprising?? Does that mean good or bad…
  • It tastes WAY too good!
  • 🙂

Wei Wuxian sighed as she looked at her phone. This girl~

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian was lying on her bed, magazine in hand, when her phone chimed from beside her head.

  • Wei Ying, have you finished your homework?
  • Not yet
  • Oh…
  • But I want to chat with you. What were you going to say?
  • You can finish your homework first.
  • I wasn’t doing my homework anyways. I was reading in bed.
  • ( * . *) // What book?
  • It’s about birds, what were you going to say?
  • I finished my homework.

Wei Wuxian stared down at her phone. Huh…?

  • Are you trying to show off on purpose!
  • No (‘ @ . @) I found that candy that the kid gave us today.
  • Eat it! Tell me how it tastes!
  • I have decided to give you half
  • …How would you give it to me?

Wei Wuxian felt her heart pound and her cheeks warm. She imagined it: Lan Wangji leaning forward, eyes closed, mouth just barely open, candy in hand as she pushed her mouth towards Wei Wuxian…

  • Let me get a knife. Which half do you want?

The candy was dented in the middle, chocolate filling spilling from both sides of the white outer layer.

  • …………..What happened?

Wei Wuxian pushed off of her right leg, dribbling the basketball as she moved.

“Left! Left!”

“Wei Wuxian!”

Hearing her name, Wei Wuxian passed the ball to her teammate who intently shot the ball into the hoop, ending the game.

“Ah It’s so hot-”

Wei Wuxian fanned her face with her hand, “I feel it~”

Wei Wuxian’s entire body tensed when freezing plastic met her neck. “AH!!!”
“Want a drink?”

“Mianmian! How dare you?!”

“Hahaha! Hey, are you free after school?’

Wei Wuxian shook her head as she opened up the cold water bottle, “Not today.”

“Again? You’ve been super busy recently.”

Jiang Cheng came up from behind the two, “It’s so hot! Nice, water! Give me some!” He grabbed the water bottle from Wei Wuxian’s hand and drank half of it in one gulp.

“I bought that for Wuxian!”

“But I already drank it…”

Wei Wuxian was waiting outside of the Gusu High School fence when Lan Wangji came up to her.

“Hi Hi Lan Zhan~”

Lan Wangji gave the tiniest upward tilt of her mouth before the two girls started walking home. Halfway down the sidewalk, Lan Wangji took her blue blazer off her shoulders and tied the sleeves around her waist. Despite having taken off her jacket, Wei Wuxian could see Lan Wangji still waving her hand toward her face.

“You’re still hot?”

“Mm.”

“Lan Zhan, why don’t you loosen your bow?”

And she did exactly that. Lan Wangji stopped walking and looked down at the bowtie around her neck. Wei Wuxian couldn’t pass up the opportunity given to her, so she pulled the phone from her backpack and took a picture of Lan Wangji. Ah, how can anyone be so pretty~
“Wei Ying, did you take a picture?!”

Lan Wangji stomped toward the other girl, hand outstretched.
“Delete it.”

“Why~????” Suddenly, inspiration struck. Wei Wuxian lifted the cellphone high above her head, “Hey Hey, If you can reach it, I’ll let you delete it.” Then bringing her opposite hand from her side, Wei Wuxian wrapped her arm around Lan Wangji’s waist. “If you get too close, I might embrace you.”

Wei Wuxian could feel Lan Wangji’s entire body stiffen from where it was pressed against her own. Slowly, Lan Wangji’s own arms came up and hugged around Wei Wuxian’s arms and torso. The two girls stood like that for a long time. Wei Wuxian couldn’t handle it. the blood rushed up to her face.

Chapter Text

“Lan Zhan Lan Zhan!! Let's eat this!”

Wei Wuxian points at the bright red window sign. Perversely Spicy !!MUST FINISH IN 15 MINUTES!!

Lan Wangji gave Wei Wuxian a look as if she was crazy.

“I want a stuffed bunny!”

Wei Wuxian pulled Lan Wangji into the noodle shop and sat them both down at the bench.

“Two of the super spicy ramen challenges.”

“Wei Ying-”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry!”

The bowls that came out were crimson, red chili covered the contents.

“AH! I love spicy food!”

Lan Wangji took one bite of the noodles before her eyes began to water and tears began to fall down her cheeks. Wei Wuxian slurps along happily before she looks at Lan Wangji and the tears streaming down her face.

“Lan Zhan, are you okay?”

Lan Wangji hiccups around her tears and nods slightly before going for another mouthful. Wei Wuxian picks up a cup of milk from the counter and pushes towards Lan Wangji.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan take a drink!”

Lan Wangji gives Wei Wuxian a little glance before she tips her head back and guzzles the entire bowl of spicy red noodles. Wei Wuxian is so shocked that she ends up staring at Lan Wangji for a solid minute, completely forgetting that she was almost out of time. When Lan Wangji brings the bowl from her lips, she put the bowl down, tears fully streaming down her pale face. Wei Wuxian pushes the drink into Lan Wangji’s hands.

“Why did you do that, Lan Zhan, if it’s too hot it’s too hot!”

Lan Wangji just ignored Wei Wuxian as she dumped the milk into her mouth.

The woman behind the counter grabs a plush bunny and hands it to Lan Wangji, “Congrats!”

Lan Wangji gives the bunny a small pat before she shoves the stuffy into Wei Wuxian’s hands.

“Treasure it.”

“AH Lan Zhan, but that’s yours.”

Lan Wangji, eyes red and face pale, shakes her head.

“For Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian throws her arms around Lan Wangji squishing the bunny between the two of them.

Lan Wangji blows her nose in her hanky as the two girls walk back to Lan Wangji’s apartment.

“Are you okay, Lan Zhan?”

Lan Wangji nods in confirmation, “It was too spicy. Is Wei Ying alright?”

“Ah~ I would have been fine! Lan Zhan shocked me so much, I didn’t finish.”

When the two girls reached Lan Wangji’s apartment, Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji’s hands.

“Drink lots of water when you get home!”

Lan Wangji nods before walking inside the building.

On her way home, Wei Wuxian squishes the can to her chest. Suddenly, Wei Wuxian feels a pat on the shoulder.

“A-Ying!”

Looking up, Wei Wuxian sees a very familiar man.

“Uncle Jiang!”

“What are you doing, walking so slow in the middle of the night? Burying a failed test?”

Wei Wuxina puts her arm over Jiang Fengmian’s arm and the two walk back home.

Before Wei Wuxian goes to bed, she sends Lan Wangji a text.

  • LAN ZHAN! Does your stomach hurt?
  • No, are you okay?
  • Yeah! Uncle Jiang gave me some kind of drink to make me not get sick.
  • Good. Your uncle?
  • Yeah my parents died when I was little and Uncle Jiang adopted me.
  • My mother died when I was young too…. There is only me at home.
  • That lonely… How about I keep you company, it’s the weekend tomorrow anyway.
  • Sure

Wei Wuxian stares at her phone. Wait really?!

Wei Wuxian ran down the stairs of the Jiang household, grabbing her keys.

“I’m going to a friend's house!!!”

Wei Wuxian sprinted the entire way to Lan Wangji’s apartment and took the elevator up. Wei Wuxian knocked on the door and pretended nonchalance as she leaned against the doorframe. Lan Wangji opened the door to be greeted by a very sweaty Wei Wuxian.

“Hi~ I’m here.”

“Is that sweat?”

“I - I ran over!”

Lan Wangji pushed out the door and placed her hands on Wei Wuxian’s back, pushing back towards the elevator.

“I’ll take you back.”

“EH?! Why?”

“You’re too sweaty.”

“What~ Can you at least let me wipe off so that I don’t have to come back?

“Nope.”

“Lan Zhan~ Take pity on me! I ran all the way here!”

Wei Wuxian would not stand for Lan Wangji’s teasing, she turned around quickly, wrapped one arm around Lan Wangji’s neck and the other around the slim of her waist. The two girls were chest to chest and Wei Wuxian tucked her chin over Lan Wangji’s shoulder. Wei Wuxian turned her head slightly, putting her nose against the shell of Lan Wangji’s ear.

“Now you're all soaked too. Can I stay?”

“Wei Ying…”

“Mmmm.”

“When I said you had to go back, I was kidding. But this is gross.”

“Hahaha sorry.”

Chapter Text

Lan Wangji guided Wei Wuxian to her room and opened a closet to pull out towels and clothes.

“You can shower first. I’ll lend you my clothes.”

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! Am I hallucinating? Your home is different from the last time I was here.”

Lan Wangji nodded, “Yes, this place is getting renovated. Uncle got carried away after the door was fixed.”

“Ah~”

“You asked last time about my parents. My mother died when I was young and dad could not take care of me and my brother. My uncle has always taken care of us. I don’t have many friends and I was very lonely, growing up.”

While talking Lan Wangji had sat on the ground and had her arms around her knees. Wei Wuxian got down in front of her and spread her arms.

“Lan Zhan, come here.”

Instead of waiting for Lan Wangji’s reaction, Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji around the waist.
“Wei Ying is still gross.”

“HAHAHA okay, okay!”

When Wei Wuxian finally unlocked her arms, Lan Wangji led her to the bathroom.
“You sure you don’t want to join~”

“No!”

“Then I’ll see you in a bit!”

Wei Wuxian turned the faucet to hot and waited for the water to heat while she stripped her clothes. When she stepped under the spray, it was still cold. What the…

“Hey Lan Zhan! The shower isn’t getting hot.”

Wei Wuxian heard Lan Wangji’s feet as she came towards the bathroom.
“Let me by, I’ll take a look.”

Before Wei Wuxian could say anything, Lan Wangji shoved the bathroom door open. And there Wei Wuxian was, completely nude, trying to cover herself with her hands. Lan Wangji stepped back and slammed the bathroom door closed.

“Why aren’t you wearing clothes?”

“I was in the shower! Lan Zhan!!!!”

Wei Wuxian rummaged through the bathroom shelves until she found a robe.

“I’m covered, you can come in.”

Lan Wangji came into the bathroom, and turned the shower handle in the opposite direction than it was.

“The hot water is on this side.”

“OooooH!”

Wei Wuxian was only half paying attention, as she stared directly at Lan Wangji.

“Why aren’t you paying attention?
“Lan Zhan is really pretty. Can I touch your eyelashes?”

“Eh? O - okay.”

Lan Wangji’s back touches the shower wall and Wei Wuxian reaches her hand out, barely brushing Lan Wangji’s eyelashes.

“Wow! It;s like a fan on my hand-”

Before she finished talking, Lan Wangji grabbed her wrist and pushed her way past Wei Wuxian. “You should shower…don’t catch a cold.”

“Alright! Thank you!”

Wei Wuxian finally got under the warm water and showered. When she finished, she dried herself and put the bathrobe back on. Unclipping the hairdryer from the wall clip, she began to use it. Wow! This hair dryer is so good! Wei Wuxian crouched down and flipped through the clothes that Lan Wangji had handed her. She gave me underwear… WAIT IS THIS LAN ZHANS?! Wei Wuxian put the bra on cautiously but felt her heart break when she realized that it didn’t fit. Not fair! Her boobs are so much bigger!

When Wei Wuxian got out of the bathroom, the two girls went out onto the outdoor balcony.

“WOW—!”

Wei Wuxian stared out at the lights of the city down below. Looking back to Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian smiled wide.

“The wind is so comfortable!”

Lan Wangji reached behind herself and grabbed a green tea, lifting it up to Wei Wuxian. “Do you want a drink?

“Thanks, Lan Zhan…Are you home alone often?”

“Mmm. Brother and uncle are very busy.”

“Are you still lonely?”

“...”

Wei Wuxian reaches out and pets Lan Wangji’s head gently.

“Then, the next time you are lonely, just call me. Then SWOOSH~! Wei Ying will come flying to the rescue!”

Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian before putting her face into her knees. The girls sat in silence before Lan Wangji put out her hand, pinky finger held out. “Then it's decided…?”

Wei Wuxian felt a giant grin come across her face and she locked her pinky with Lan Wangji’s.

“I promise!”

Chapter Text

Jiang Cheng walked to school behind his adopted sister, Wei Wuxian, who had her cell phone in hand, as she watched a basketball game.

“Whoa! WHOA! AH! NO! They stole the BALL!”

Wei Wuxian feels a sharp pain on the back of her head and her face is pushed into her phone.
“Look ahead when you’re walking, dumbass!”

“ChengCheng! You have to watch the semi-finals from last night!”

“I’m guessing it's exciting~”

“So sassy! When I got up, everyone on the internet was talking about it.”

“There was an awesome shot in the first half!”

Jiang Cheng’s face finally changes from disdain to interest. “Let me see.”

Wei Wuxian presses the back arrow excessively, “here, here.”

Jiang Cheng looks over Wei Wuxian’s phone, the pair slow to watch the game.

“Are we going to be lat-”

Wei Wuxian doesn’t hear what Jiang Cheng was saying as she ran into a giant body.

“Oof”

Looking up, she sees a familiar large frame, “Upperclassmen Nie!”

Jiang Cheng sweatdropped as the large man turned to them, “excuse us!”

“Wei Wuxian,” Nie Mingjue said looking down, “What a coincidence. I was looking for you.”

“We are going over to Wen High after school to bet a game against them. Three on three. We need a girl on both teams. Are you coming?”
Wei Wuxian gave the upperclassman a complicated look, “We haven’t played in a long time. Would we be able to practice together before?”

Nie Mingjue nodded sagely, “sure.”

With that, Wei Wuxian turned to make her way to the basketball court. “Let’s go!”

“NOW?!” Nie Huisang asked from Nie Mingjue’s side, “The bell already rang for morning self study!”

“Ah~ it won't matter if we miss self study. They hurt my hand for no reason. I don’t want to lose.”

Jiang Cheng stood where the group had been, hands in pockets as he watched them leave. “The fuck?! You’re leaving me to go to class alone?”

Wei Wuxian stared at her bowl of noodles in disappointment

“It's scallion noodle soup” Jiang Cheng raised his eyebrow but showed no emotion otherwise.

“It doesn’t have any meat or chili! This is rabbit food!”

“What did you expect?”

“I thought there would at least be protein!”

Looking at everyone else’s trays, Wei Wuxian eyed Nie Huisangs meal. “Huisang, your food looks great!”

Nie Huisang pulled his tray away suspiciously, covering his food with his hands “What are you planning?”

“Give me some beef and… I’ll give you my yogurt!”

Nie Huisang sighs dejectedly before reaching his hand out for the drink, “I’ll take pity on you.”

Jiang Cheng stared in silence until he grabbed Wei Wuxian’s collar and whisper-shouted at her, “Isn’t that yogurt from a couple days ago?”

“Yeah. I didn’t drink it yet.”

“Isn’t it expired!”

“Naw it wouldn’t expire that fast~”

As soon as the last period bell rang, Wei Wuxian pulled out her phone to text Lan Wangji.

  • I have something today. I won’t be able to go home with you after school today
  • ???Did we make plans to go back together?
  • NO ; . ; but I’ve been waiting at the station everyday pretending to run into you
  • I was going to say, what a coincidence
  • Oh no, I have been exposed
  • Then I’m going home by myself today. How about I treat you to ice cream tomorrow?
  • !!! LAN ZHAN!!! GREAT \(O.O)/ I’ll see you tomorrow!

Wei Wuxian was tapping away when she heard a beat on the window beside her. Nie Mingjue was standing outside of her classroom.

“Are we getting ready to leave? Where’s Huisang?”

“He’s behind you…”

Wei Wuxian turned her head to see Nie Huisang looking pale and greenish.

“Um, are you-”

“All of a sudden - my stomach is really hurting.”

“Hahaha, I guess the yogurt was expired.”

Nie Huisang grabbed Wei Wuxian’s tie with one hand and swatted at her with the other.

“You gave me that drink and you have the nerve to laugh!”

“Ah! Sorry, I’m sorry.

Nie Huisang suddenly stopped, opening the bathroom door “OW… I need to go again-”

Nie Mingjue stared at the door before turning back to Wei Wuxian. “We don’t have time for this, we need to find a replacement.”

Wei Wuxian looked to the upperclassman, “can we switch so casually like that?”

Nie Mingjue shook his head softly, “There’s not much choice.”

Wei Wuxian stretched her arms above her head in thought, “I know someone who can help.”

The three walked the Wen High basketball court in sync, the other student watching them curiously.

“Let’s do this!” Jiang Cheng said; fire in his eyes.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE COMMENTS Protectheanime (T.T) <3

I am trying to create an update schedule so it might be inconsistent as I work it out.

Chapter Text

The three Yunmeng High students made their way through the court, stopping only when they came in front of Wen Chao.

“Aren’t you guys late? Where’s the mousey-guy from last time?”

Nie Mingjue glared down at the guy in front of him, “Something came up so he couldn’t come. He had to substitute.”

“Whatever, it doesn’t matter. We’ll still win!”

Jiang Cheng moved over to the sidelines to watch, while Wei Wuxian pulled off her track jacket.

“Hey!” Wei Wuxian looks up at her brother, to see Wen Chao posturing at him, “Aren’t you switching for the other guy? Hurry up!”

A smile came to Wei Wuxian’s face as Jiang Cheng crossed his arms. “Me? I am here to watch you make a fool of yourself.”

Wen Chao’s face screws up, “What, then who is switching?”

Wei Wuxian sees a familiar silhouette, “Ah! Sixth shidi!”

“Sorry I’m late!”

“Let’s begin!” Wen Chao gestures with his hand, pretending to be unphased.

“Wait a minute.” Nie Mingjue broke in, “Since we came to your school, and there are so many of your own students, the ref should be a Yunmeng High student.”

Jiang Cheng makes a mocking solute with his left hand as the Wen HIgh students look over to him.

“Fine.”

Sixth shidi, Nie Mingue, and Wei Wuxian line up at the center line, standing directly across from Wen Chao and his two ‘teammates.’ One was Wen Zhuliu and the other was Wen Chao’s own girlfriend Wang Lingjiao. Jiang Cheng pulls a coin from his pocket and glances at the Wen High students.

“Heads.”

Jiang Cheng nods and throws the coin in the air, catching it in his palm and slapping it down onto the back of his opposite hand.

“Tails, Yunmeng gets the ball.”

Nie Mingjue takes the ball in hand as sixth shidi stands in front of Wang Lingjiao, Nie Mingue eyes him and pulls his arms up to pass. Wen Chao jumps up, a single arm coming up to black the throw. Instead of passing forward, Nie Mingjue bounces the ball behind him. Wei Wuxian was wide open when the basketball landed directly into her hands. With a single step, she lay-ups, ball hitting the corner of the goal square before it goes through the hoop. The Wen students gape and the sidelines cry out.

“Hahahaha, thanks for the point!”

Jiang Cheng breaks out into a smile as he flips the score, “2 to 0!”

Wen get a 3 point, Yunmeng makes another layup. Wei Wuxian jumps high to slap Nie Mingjues hand, laughing as she runs back across the court. Wei Wuxian grabs the ball from the air, dribbling the ball between her wide feet. Wang Lingjiao is at her back, arms spread wide to try and block her from moving. Nie Mingjue makes his way across the court and Wei Wuxian rears up, both hands cupping the basketball. As she shoots, Wen Zhuliu comes from the side, hand outstretched, his fingers grazing the ball making it spin off course.

“AH! Upperclassman!”

Nie Mingjue turns for the basketball, jumping up for it but before his hand reaches it Wen Chao’s fingers push the ball away.
“Don’t think that your size will give you an advantage!”

The entire court watches as the ball flies through the air. Sixth shidi stumbles forward as the ball comes towards him, it lands into his outstretched hands.

Wei Wuxian can feel the sweat dripping down her body.

“28 to 36!”

She pulls her arm up to wipe at her face, breathing heavily, when out of nowhere she hears a voice!”

“Wei Ying!”

Wei Wuxian looks into the crowd of students to see Lan Wangji, as beautiful as always. Lite-blue uniform standing out in the sea of red. Hair haloing her face, a small blush on her cheeks.

“You can do it!”

Wei Wuxian barely registers the words as she stares at Lan Wangji. How long has she been here?! I’ve been playing so bad!!!

Wei Wuxian gulps but nods to Lan Wangji. Just before she turns back to the game she sees a few of the students in red make their way to her, “HEY! Why are you cheering for them?!”

Wei Wuxian’s fingers tighten into fist, she thrusts her fist into the air, eyes piercing into Lan Wangji. She pulls her eyes away and makes her way across the court to Nie Mingjue.
“We need to be more aggressive.”

The game continues as the score begins to even out.

“34 t o 36!”

Both teams go back in forth over and over until Wen High eventually makes another score!

“GAME OVER! Wen High WINS!”

The crowd of students go wild as Wen Chao smirks to the Yunmeng students.

Only one basket away…

Wei Wuxian makes her way towards the sidelines, where Lan Wangji is standing. As she gets within reaching distance, Wei Wuxian flops forward, chin lying over Lan Wangji’s shoulder.
“Dammit, I lost.”

Lan Wangji’s hands come around Wei Wuxian’s back comfortingly.
“You still did amazing.”

“HNG~”
In the midst of her whining Wei Wuxian is kicked from behind. She turns her head to see Jiang Cheng with his foot still halfway through the air. Wei Wuxian lets go of Lan Wangji to grab at Jian Cheng’s collar.

“Did you just KICK ME?!?!”

Wei Wuxian left the sidelines to meet with Nie Mingjue in the center of the court.

“This time, we lost! Per the agreement, we will apologize. We hope to have the opportunity to play again!”
Nie Mingjue turns and stomps off as Wei Wuxian stares unhappily before making her way back to Lan Wangji. Pouting softly, she grabs Lan Wangji’s wrist.

“You said we could get ice cream tomorrow.”

“Mmm.”

“Can we go today?”
Lan Wangji moved her hand and grabbed Wei Wuxian’s hand.
“Let’s go!”

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian shivered all over as she walked to the school, fingers tucked under her arms as snow fell around her. From behind her she heard Nie Mingjue’s voice.
“Are you cold?”

“A - A lit-tle bit…”

Nie Mingjue pulled his giant black puffer jacket off his own shoulders and put it around Wei Wuxian.

“I will lend you this.”
The jacket swallowed Wei Wuxian in a mountain of black fabric.
“EH?!”

Nie Mingjue ignored her protests and pushed forward to reach the school building faster. “Give it back after school.”

Upperclassman is so caring!!!

And that was how Wei Wuxian appeared to class, completely  encapsulated by Nie Mingjue’s jacket. Everyone in the classroom stared as she sat in her seat, jacket pooling around her. From behind her, Wei Wuxian felt a tap on her shoulder.
“Wei Wuxian, I can’t see.”

Wei Wuxian sat in the nurse's office next to Jiang Cheng, ice pack on her face.  She didn’t even remember what Jiang Cheng said that caused it.

One second they were laughing next to each other, when she punched his arm in laughter. Jiang Cheng’s face broke out into a wide grin as he punched her arm laughing as well. The weight of the hit pushed Wei Wuxian over, causing her to lose her breath. She straightened out and smacked Jiang Cheng’s back as she tried to catch her breath when all of a sudden Jiang Cheng’s hand smacked the back of her head, hard.

The two stared at each other for a split second before they lept at the same time, fist coming to meet each other's face.

Nie Huisang was the one who eventually broke them up, but the damage was done. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng’s faces were red and swollen from the assault.

  • LAN ZHAN LAN ZHAN What are you doing right now?
  • I just woke up, why are you so energetic this early?
  • Todays weather is great!!! Aunt Yu asked me to buy groceries. But then I saw a gentian-flower! I thought of you (=0.-=)
  • Why’s that?
  • The sunlight is so nice!!! I was thinking about the flower, and I started smiling. People on the street were staring at me before I finally noticed. Do I always grin like an idiot when I’m hanging out with you?!
  • Yes
  • WAAAAH~~~ (T-T) I KNOW YOU ARE LAUGHING AT ME anyways you should go outside today, it’s so nice! I wish I could see you but I won’t until tomorrow. But when I remember tomorrow, I get happy again!
  • I have my shoes on
  • EH?! Are you going out?!
  • Yes. Wait for me to come over.
  • Where are you going to go?
  • To see Wei Ying

Wei Wuxian held Lan Wangji’s blue umbrella over herself and said girl. Lan Wangji had the hem of her blue pinafore within her hands, trying to pull the edges under the umbrella.

“I didn’t think it would rain like this.” Lan Wangji looked down to her white leather ankle height shoes. “And these are too shallow, they will get wet.”

Wei Wuxian tilted her head, “Don’t you like the rain.”

“Mmm, I do. Its just inconvenient.”

Wei Wuxian switched the umbrella from one hand to the other as she took Lan Wangji’s arm in hers. “At least I can share an umbrella with you~”

Lan Wangji was silent for a beat before she leaned in, “Then, you don’t like clear days?”

“I like them! On clear days I can bike ride with Lan Zhan!”

“Spring days?”

“Then I can eat Qingtuan with Lan Zhan!”

“Summer is too hot.”

“Then we can stay home all day!”

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji walked side by side on the black pavement.

“Wei Ying, the place you were talking about, how far is it from her?”

“Um, about ten minutes.”

“Hm.”

The two girls continued to walk together, until Lan Wangji spoke again.
“It was raining a lot earlier, the ground is still wet.”

Wei Wuxiam turns to look at Lan Wangji for a second before reaching out her hand, “Lan Zhan take my hand!”

Lan Wangji placed her hand in Wei Wuxian’s, but gave her a questioning look.

“Afraid i’ll slip?”

“We are going uphill…”

“...really?”

Wei Wuxian felt the blood rush up to her face as she gripped Lan Wangji’s hand tighter.

“It took me a while to think of an excuse to hold your hand, don’t expose me!”

Chapter Text

Nie Mingjue, Nie Huisang, and Jiang Cheng walked with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji after school.

“Too bad about yesterday’s game, just a little more and we would have won.” Jiang Cheng signed as he lifted his arms behind his head.

“No big deal. Besides, playing with people who are good makes it more interesting… It’s been awhile Wei Wuxian, it was pretty fun.”

“AWE!” Wei Wuxian’s arms come around Nie Mingjue “Upperclassman~”

Nie Mingjue gave Wei Wuxian a small twitch of his lips before pushing her off. “Today is my treat.”

The five make their way to a small restaurant, pictures of pot stickers and soup dumplings litter the font door.

“Oooh are we here for pot stickers?”

“The owner runs this shop with their family, so it isn’t large, but their food is good. Other than pan fry they have noodle and rice dishes.”

As Nie Mingjue pushed open the sliding door, Lan Wangji bowed slightly, “Sorry for the intrusion.”

As the group enters, they see the group from Wen High; the air is thick with awkwardness. Nie Mingjue is the first to break the silence.

“You guys are here too…what a coincidence.”
“You aren’t the only one allowed to eat here!”

From the kitchen an older bald man comes out from the back of the store, smiling as he spots Mingjue  “Hey, the brothers are here!”

Nie Huisang nods to the man, “Uncle, we brought a few friends to eat.”

“You can sit at that table.” The man points with a ladle to the table right next to the Wen High students.

The group moves the sit, but Jiang Cheng sits with the opposing school.

“Why are you sitting with us?!”

Jiang Cheng crossed his arms and rolled his eyes indignantly, “Go sit at the bar!”

“I don’t want to.”

A server comes up to the two tables, with a tray of drinks in her hands. The woman glances around at all of the teens, “Are you all friends? I can bring a long bench so you can all sit together.”

Jiang Cheng and Wen Zhuliu respond at the same time.

“That would be fine, thank you.”
“Who is friends with THEM?”

In the end all of them ended up sitting at a single large table. While the rest of the group skipped through their menus, Wei Wuxian stood and scoured the restaurant patrons for food options.

“Yellow braised ribs are ready!”

“~LOOKS SO GOOD!~”
“Hot and sour clear noodles, please enjoy!”

“~SO DELICIOUS!~what should I order?” Wei Wuxian moaned as she meandered back to the table. She plopped onto one of the seats with a sigh and dropped her head onto Lan Wangji’s shoulder. Lan Wangji touched Wei Wuxian’s arm, “Let’s get the pot stickers to share, then you can ask for extra chili sauce. And you can get the hot and sour noodles for yourself.”

Wei Wuxian pulled her head up fast, a giant smile coming to her face, “OKAY!!!”

Across the table, Wen Chao and Wang Lingjiao are flirting. Jiang Cheng looks over at Nie Huisang to see him and Nie Mingjue picking out food together. The only people not currently paired up are himself and Wen Zhuliu, “Hey help me order.”

The man glances up, “Eat shit and die.”

The group digs into their meals as the food reaches the table, Wei Wuxian barely swallows her food before turning back to the cook, “Boss, this is super good!!”

The man laughs, “You have good taste.”

Wen Zhuliu looks over to Nie Mingjue as he brings his chopsticks from his mouth, “Why isn’t that tall guy with you?”
“He said that something came u-”

Nie Mingjue was cut off by an odd sound from Wen Chao’s end of the table.
Wang Lingjiao is leaned over the table, “A-Chao why are you sweating so much?”

“He can’t handle spicy foods, the noodles probably are too much for him.” Wen Zhuliu comments around another bite of rice.
Wang Lingjiao pushes her cup of hot tea forward but Wei Wuxian cuts her off, handing Wen Chao a bottle of water. Wen Chao glances up and reaches to take it from her when Wei Wuxian pulls it just barely out of his reach with a smirk.

“I may have lost to you in basketball but now I know that if we ate spicy foods, I would definitely win.”

Wen Chao smacks the table with fist before standing up, “You aren’t willing to admit defeat from yesterday.”
Wei Wuxian’s eyes begin to slit, “that’s right.”

“Then why not lose again?”
Wei Wuxian laughs ruefully, “if you’ve got the balls, you can try.”

The two glare at each other - before Wei Wuxian breaks the silence. “You have vegetables in your teeth.”

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian’s breath came in giant puffs, as she tried to gather air into her lungs. “I- I’m so dizzy.”

“What did you expect, dumbass? You’re the one that wanted to see who could hold their breath the longest.”

Wei Wuxian pointed to Wen Chao, who flipped his middle finger at her.

“He’s the one who wanted to compete with me!”

Jiang Cheng just rolled his eyes at his sister, turning to walk in the opposite direction of her and Lan Wangji.

“I need to get something from the school. I won’t go back with you guys.”

Wei Wuxian made to walk forward, but instant;y slammed face first into a concrete pillar.

“Wei Ying!”

Lan Wangji grabbed Wei Wuxian’s arm and pushed her to sit on a nearby set of stairs.

“Are you alright?”

Wei Wuxian flopped her head into her hands, “Ugh, I’m just dizzy… I’ll be okay with a little rest.”

The two girls stayed like that for a few seconds before Lan Wangji eventually let out a small laugh.

“Wei Ying, you can be so childish sometimes. Losing at basketball, or competing to hold your breath the longest. I… really like this side of you.”

Wei Wuxian felt her face flush at Lan Wangji’s admission.

“Come on, since you are so dizzy, I will carry you.”

“Ah~ Are you serious?”

The normally stoic girl nodded before rolling up her sleeves, “I have very good arm strength.”

Lan Wangji bent forward grabbing Wei Wuxian around the back and under her knees. Lan Wangji straightened to her full height, pulling Wei Wuxian up.

“Eek!”

WANGJI POV

Lan Wangji walked out of the school building slowly as she scanned the front gate for Wei Wuxian.

“Lan Wangji!”

Turning around slightly, she spotted two underclassmen.

“We wanted to ask you something. That girl from Yunmeng High, who is always with you. What is her name?”
Lan Wangji raised a single, perfect, eyebrow, “You mean, Wei Wuxian?”

“Wasn’t she the one that played basketball. A lot of people in class think that she is super cool.”

“...”

Lan Wangji continues to make her way to the front gate, when the underclassmen see Wei Wuxian leaning against the entrance. One of the underclassmen pushes forward, “You’re so tall up close, how tall are you?”

Wei Wuxian seems to tilt her head in confusion, “170 cm.”

The underclassmen eventually move in the opposite direction of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji much to Lan Wangji’s relief.

Even people from other grades ask about her. She’s so cool, there is just something about her that -

“-HAN!”

Lan Wangji was pulled from her thoughts by Wei Wuxian, who was waving a hand in her face.

“Lan Zhan, were you listening?”
“...”

Lan Wangji looked to the ground as blood rushed through her ears.

“Hahaha, It’s Jiejie’s birthday soon. We are having a party and he’s invited you. Would you come?”

Lan Wangji agrees before she can even think about the consequences.

“... Wei Ying will be there?”

“Of course!”

Suddenly, Lan Wangji feels a weight fall over her shoulder,

“Why? If I don’t go will you not show up? You’re only going because of me, right?”
Lan Wangji can’t help from blushing at Wei Wuxian’s teasing. “No.”

Wei Wuxian pulls her arm away from Lan Wangji’s shoulder, as she jumps ahead.

“I heard it! I’m putting this in my diary!”

Lan Wangji tries to grab at Wei Wuxian’s cardigan to keep her from running off.

“R-ridiculous.”

WUXIAN POV

“JIEJIE I’M HERE! I’M NOT LATE!”

Wei Wuxian waved as she ran into the birthday venue. Jiang Yanli stood from her seat, a large smile breaking out across her face, as Wei Wuxian threw herself onto her older sister

“A-Ying!”

“Happy birthday~!!!”

Wei Wuxian hugged her sister tightly as her college friends came over.

“Wei Wuxian!”

“Wow, you all look so pretty! How are you?”

Jiang Cheng came over from the table with the parents, “Hey, dumbass, did you come alone?”

Wei Wuxian nodded, excusing herself from the older girls.

“I gave Lan Zhan the address. She should be here soon, I’ll go outside.”

Jiang Cheng linked his arm with Wei Wuxian, “I’ll come with you.”

Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian waited outside, greeting guests as they waited for Lan Wangji to show up.

“Is that her?”
Wei Wuxian turned to where Jiang Cheng was staring, to see Lan Wangji in a beautiful white halter top dress, a bow around her neck. Wei Wuxian couldn’t bring her eyes off the soft white rushing that fell under Lan Wangji’s bust, and a small blush moved up her face.

“Lan Zhan…you…look super pretty.”

Lan Wangji clasped both hands over her clutch at the front of her body.

“Thank you.”

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian guided Lan Wangji into the parlor, where the two ended up sitting across from a few boys that knew Jiang Yanli.

“Wei Wuxian, when did you actually make friends with pretty girls?”

“Hahaha are you jealous?”

One of the boys and his friend leaned forward, “Introduce us!”

“Why would I? I’m just letting you look at her beauty~”

At the compliment, Wei Wuxian sees Lan Wangji cover a smile with her hand.

The boy’s face morphs into a fake sob, “How can you be like this~”

The group laughs before Wei Wuxian taps one of Jiang Yanli’s female friends on the shoulder,

“Do you know where Jiejie went?”

“I think she stopped by the pool table to talk to Jin Zixuan.”

“UGH, why is she with him? I’m going to go over there. I’ll be right back, Lan Zhan!”

“YingYing shouldn’t leave her friend alone for so long.” Jiang Yanli commented as she pushed Wei Wuxian away from the pool table.

“Ah! Lan Zhan! I’ll see you later, Jiejie!”

Wei Wuxian sprinted towards the room she left earlier.

As she rounded the corner to enter the room, Wei Wuxian saw the guy from earlier now in her seat. He leaned into Lan Wangji’s personal space while Lan Wangji herself sat idly, face neutral like most of the time.

“Lan Wangji, do you have a boyfriend?”

Lan Wangji raised one of her perfect eyebrows, “no.”

“Then, would you consider me?”
The friend reaches out and smacks the boy on the shoulder, “haha moving so fast man!”

“I’m being serious, I hope we can meet again in the futur-”

Wei Wuxian can’t control herself, she feels her body move forward fast to grab the arm of the chair. As her hand comes around the wood, she yanks with all of her might, forcing the boy away from her Lan Wangji. The boy lets out a yelp as he is forced away.
“WEI WUXIAN?!”

Wei Wuxian glares hard, eyes piercing. She sits on Lan Wangji’s chair arm, pushing her foot against the guy intimidatingly.

Lan Wangji, is mine .”

Chapter 22: Holiday Special

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji exited the store, bundled in their jackets.

“Wah so cold!”

“Mmm.”

“LAN ZHAN~ so cold so cold!”

Before Wei Wuxian could say anything else, Lan Wangji’s body came closer.Lan Wangji pushed her body against Wei Wuxian, from knee to chest. Wei Wuxian felt a warm pair of hands move under her jacket and around her back.  Wei Wuxian instinctively pulled her jacket around the two of them.

“SUPER WARM!”

Wei Wuxian felt Lan Wangji chuckle within her arms,

“How will we go home from here?”
“Hahaha, slowly nudge home like this.”

“Stop stop, everyone will look at us.”

Wei Wuxian tightened her arms around Lan Wangji, “Let them look!”

Wei Wuxian flopped onto the bed after the two girls returned from shopping.

“Home is the best!”

Lan Wangji poked her head into the room from the hallway, “take off your dirty clothes before you get on the bed.”

“Okay okay!”

Lan Wangji kept moving towards the kitchen as Wei Wuxian got up to change into her pajamas. As Wei Wuxian exited the bedroom she pulled a blanket over her shoulders. She rounded into the kitchen to see Lan Wangji standing over a pot on the stove.

“What are you doing Lan Zhan?”

“Heating up milk.”

“Hmmm!”
Wei Wuxian turned to look out the window as she noticed a flash of white.

“LAN ZHAN!!!! LOOK IT’S SNOWING!”

“Eh?! Wow!”

The two girls moved closer to the window and stared out at the white clumps flurrying to the ground. Lan Wangji turned away from the window and shut the stove off, pouring the contents in the pot into mugs.

“Smells so good Lan Zhan. Come on, burrow with me!”

Lan Wangji grabs her own mug before taking a seat next to Wei Wuxian, who lifts the blanket over her shoulders.

“Spending Christmas with you is the most important thing! Lan Zhan, when the snow builds up, lets go play okay?”

“Sure sure.”

Chapter Text

“HAHAHA”

Wei Wuxian patted Jiang Cheng’s shoulder before hugging Jiang Yanli extra tight. “Happy Birthday jiejie! I’ll be going home first.”

Jiang Yanli looped her arm through Jin Zixuan’s, “A-Ying, are you sure you don’t want to call a ride for you and Lan Wangji?”

Wei Wuxian grinned wide as she fluffed her hair out of the collar of her jacket. “No, we can walk, it's pretty close.”

“As long as you are sure.”

“Of course Jiejie! You have lots of fun!”

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian walk side by side, along the lit street. The evening was mostly quiet except for the sound of cars passing.Wei Wuxian could practically hear how her heart began to beat even a little bit faster.

“Lan Zhan, thanks for coming.”

Lan Wangji’s mouth curved into a small smile, “Mmh.”

Wei Wuxian watched Lan Wangji, watched as the hem of her dress swished as she walked, the soft pinkish-cream of her thighs peeking out from her skirts. Wei Wuxian also watched how Lan Wangji pulled her arms around her body.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! Are you cold? Here!”

Wei Wuxian ripped her arm out of her jacket as quickly as she could.
“Don’t worry.” Lan Wangji tried to placate her.

“Take it! What if Lan Zhan got sick~”

Lan Wangji’s ears blushed bright pink asWei Wuxian pushed the jacket around Lan Wangji’s shoulders. As soon as the jacket was secure, Wei Wuxian stepped away.

The two walked again and a thick silence sank around them. Wei Wuxian kept glancing at Lan Wangji, she couldn’t stop thinking about that boy from earlier. About his obnoxious laugh, the way he leaned toward Lan Zhan; the way he smiled at her, the way his eyes bulged when her boot came down on his chair. Wei Wuxian felt her neck and cheeks heat up - Lan Wangji, is mine - and her heart beat really fast.

“Wei Ying, you are quiet.”

Wei Wuxian glanced back to Lan Wangji for another split second before looking down at the concrete. She felt her heart clench inside of her chest.

“Lan Zhan is… very outstanding.”

“Why do you say that?”

“It’s not sudden…I’ve always thought about it. Such a great girl. Lan Zhan must have a lot of people who like her. For me-” Wei Wuxian couldn’t look at her “-just knowing that a person like Lan Zhan exists in this world…makes me really happy.”

Wei Wuxian ruffled her hair and her chest began to ache even more.

“But today, I was anxious… anxious enough to kick a chair…My manners were really lacking. Hahaha! Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! If… if…one day you find someone that you really like. Please tell me, alright?”

Wei Wuxian rubbed her nose and looked around, trying to stave off the sting in her eyes. The fountain in front of Lan Wangji’s house was lit up in bright pink lights.

“Ah, it looks like we are at your place. I see the fountain…”

Wei Wuxian looked up at the sky.  “I…I better go. I’ll see you later Lan Zh-”

A warm hand clenched around Wei Wuxian’s wrist while another yanked Wei Wuxian’s shirt collar.

“Lan-!

Soft warm lips pushed against her mouth, insistent and Wei Wuxian felt like she would combust on the spot, as Lan Wangji leaned in even further. Just as she skimmed the white chiffon of Lan Wangji’s dress, Wei Wuxian’s mouth was ripped away from Lan Wangji’s. Stepping backwards, Lan Wangji was red faced and wide eyed.

“I’m - I’m leaving now!”

Before Wei Wuxian could say a word, Lan Wangji disappeared into the building.

“What-? Wait- did that-?!”

Wei Wuxian felt her chest completely burst in a yell, “AAAAAHHHHHHAHAHAHHA!!! I LOVE YOU LAN ZHAN!!”

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian grabbed the end of Lan Wangji’s uniform skirt, “Lan Zhan!”

“Wei Ying. Recently, why have you become much more fond of teasing people?”

Wei Wuxian pouted at Lan Wangji.

“I have?”

Lan Wangji turned to Wei Wuxian, eyes piercing,“You weren’t like this a week ago.”

Wei Wuxian smirked, “Hu~h, A week ago. So that’s what you’re talking about. But Lan Zhan isn’t the change normal? I mean, we are dating after all.”

Lan Wangji’s eyes turned wide and her face bloomed in red, “Since when are we dating?”

“Ehhhh! Lan Zhan is so mean; She clearly kissed me and will not take responsibility.”

“That’s -”

“Unless Lan Zhan is saying that she was playing with this poor A-Ying’s feelings.”

Wei Wuxian took that opportunity to grab Lan Wangji by the waist and pull her close to her body. Their faces were so close, Wei Wuxian could feel Lan Wangji’s heartbeat begin to race.

“Lan Zhan~ your face is so red.”

Wei Wuxian pushed her mouth next to Lan Wangji’s ear. “Do you like me that much?”

Lan Wangji’s hand tightened around the strap of her backpack, looking down at the ground.
“Mmh.”

Wei Wuxian let go of Lan Wangji’s waist, satisfied, and Lan Wangji quickly moved to the other side of the sidewalk. Wei Wuxian pouted again.

“Lan Zhan, why did you go so far away from me?”

Lan Wangji took long steps to keep as much distance as possible between them.

“I will not be teased again. Wei Ying can stay over there.”

“Ahhhh~”

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan lets swap places!”

Lan Wangji looked toward Wei Wuxian in confusion.

“It’s not safe to be so close to the road, Lan Zhan should walk on the inside.”

As if Wei Wuxian had some form of power, a car honked as it ran over a puddle, dousing Lan Wangji with water. With a gasp, Lan Wangji jumped backwards and into Wei Wuxian.

“Haha Lan Zhan, why did you take the opportunity to jump into my arms?”

Lan Wangji pushed her palms against Wei Wuxian’s stomach, “let go!”

Wei Wuxian began to laugh uncontrollably, “come one, come on. Let's get hotpot!”

On Sunday, the rain poured all day. Wei Wuxian tied her hair back into a half-up bun and sighed into her coffee.
“It’s really coming down…I wonder what Lan Zhan’s doing today.”
Jiang Chen scoffed from his seat on the couch and turned back to his video game.

  • Hello~ Watchadoin’?
  • I went to the store but then the rain got very bad, I am stuck inside the store.
  • Ah?! That’s terrible.
  • I was wondering if I should call a taxi or not. But by then I could not find one
  • Huh~ what are doing now then?
  • When the rain lessens, I will get going.
  • How about this ill come get you, just give me a minute. I’ll bring an umbrella
  • !? No need
  • LaN zHaN!! It’s no trouble and i want to see you
  • …okay

Wei Wuxian grabbed the umbrella and stuffed her feet into her shoes quickly.

“A-Ying where are you going?” Jiang Yanli’s voice sounded from the kitchen.

“Jiejie! I’ll be back for soup I promise! Lan Zhan needs an umbrella!”

“A-Ying had grown up a lot, but she should take a jacket so she doesn’t get sick.”
Wei Wuxian did just that, with a wide grin.

“Thanks Jiejie!”

Wei Wuxian sprinted all the way to the store until she saw a slender figure in a familiar blue and white outfit. Lan Wangji stood under the store awning until she heard the sound of splashing footsteps, a small smile breaking over her face.

“Lan~ Zhan~”

Chapter Text

“Head downstairs, everyone head downstairs! Class exercises! Head downstairs!”

Integrated Gymnastic Exercise is starting now! March in place! And… Begin!

Wei Wuxian picks up one of her feet as an eight-count is sounded off.

1 - left foot

2 - right foot

3 - left foot

4 - right foot

5 - left foo

A tap on her shoulder has Wei Wuxian turning to look at one of the girls in her class; who points to Jiang Cheng; who looks unbothered.

AGAIN!

Wei Wuxian turns sharply to her brother and slashes out a hand to try and catch Jiang Cheng in the ribs; which he dodges. They two go back and forth, one trying to hit the other who doges as the counting continues. Finally, Wei Wuxian sees an opening in Jiang Cheng’s defenses, as quickly as she can, she jabs two fingers just above his hip. With a short cry, JIang Cheng folds, head coming down to smack Wei Wuxian in the face.

That is it, everyone, please gather with your class.

Nei Huisang pushes himself between two siblings who look worse for wear. Jiang Cheng is still folded in on himself, clutching at his side and breathing loudly. While Wei Wuxian’s face is bright red, a tiny pool of blood is trapped in one nostril.

Nie Huisang laughs at the two,  “is it so strenuous to exercise a little? I heard that the principal is going to announce the spring trip.”

Wei Wuxian perks up, “really?”

Nie Huisang nodded sagely towards the announcement podium, where low and behold the principal appeared.

“LAN ZHAN!! Have you heard?!”

Lan Wangji barely walked out of the Gusu High gates before a hand wrapped around her arm.

“Lan Zhan! Next week our schools are having a spring trip together!”

“Students from every class! Board your designated bus! After arriving, we will all gather at the front gate!”

Wei Wuxian pulled her black hood up over her face as she watched Lan Wangji get into line. Lan Wangji is wearing a large Gusu High colored sweatshirt with her uniform skirt and a baseball cap. Wei Wuxian was supposed to be back at her own school but she couldn’t let this kind of opportunity pass. Wei Wuxian weaved in between the students before grabbing onto Lan Wangji’s hand.

“DON-!” Lan Wangji tried to pull her arm away as she swung around, face pinched, only to calm when she saw the family face behind the black hood. “Wei Ying?!”

Wei Wuxian pulled a finger to her mouth, “Shhhhh~”

“Why are you not with your own scho-”

“Alright class three! We are boarding!” A woman calls out.

“Lan Zhan, is that you teacher? Will she see me?”
Wei Wuxian watches as Lan Wangji’s steels her face and takes off her Gusu High hat and places it over Wei Wuxian’s head, “follow me.”

The teacher said nothing as the two got onto the bus together, as Wei Wuxian sat down, Lan Wangji crossed her arms.

“Why did you come over to my school?”

Wei Wuxian pouted, “I wanted to ride with Lan Zhan! Can I?”

Lan Wangji’s ears turn pink and she grabs a hold of Wei Wuxian’s hand again, “Mmh.”

The Gusu High bus arrived at the amusement park just as she saw Jiang Cheng get off of their own school bus.
“Ah! I need my phone!”

Wei Wuxian scrambled to search her pockets until Lan Wangji handed it to her.
“Where are you?!”

“CHENGCHENG! Help me get a ticket! I’m getting off the Gusu bus soon!”

Jiang Cheng’s face screwed up, “get your ass over here, we are about to go inside.”

Huisang leaned over Jiang Cheng’s phone, covering Wei Wuxian’s screen with his face. “Where are you right now?”

Wei Wuxian looked around but couldn’t tell where she was compared to them, “There are too many people.”

“Raise your phone, take a picture of your surroundings.”

Wei Wuxian did just that, standing on her toes and reaching her phone up into the air to take a panorama. Just as she was coming down, a weight slammed into her and she hit the ground.

“AH!”

“I am so sorry!”

A boy from Gusu pulled up his phone before bowing low, “sorry I was streaming, I didn’t watch out.”

Wei Wuxian picked herself up and dusted off her gym shorts as the boy went back to his phone.

“Haha, I ran into someone- OH!”

The boy then turned to Lan Wangji who was standing there awkwardly, “Do you have a boyfriend, my viewers want to know?”

Lan Wangji’s face blushed bright and Wei Wuxian pushed her way into the camera view.

“Don’t think about it! The girl in the baseball cap already has a girlfriend.”

“NO! You’re at the wrong gate dumbass!”

“Um… Jiang Cheng, your ice cream…”

Jiang Cheng looked down to see just as his ice cream fell off of the popsicle stick.

“MOTHERFU-”

Chapter Text

Screams roared out in the distance, loud music played overhead, and the smell of fried food sat heavy in the air.

“OH~! There’s so many options and they all look so fun!! LAN ZHAN, which one do you want to ride first?!”

Lan Wangji just smiled slightly, “I’m fine with any one.”

Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji’s and Jiang Cheng’s hands, dragging them to a large twisting machine that turned in figure eights while also swinging upside down.

Nie Huisang ran after the trio only to stop short upon viewing the large ride, “I am going to throw up.”

“Hahaha! Huisang you have to come up! Come on, come on!”

They all moved towards the line

“There are so many people~” Wei Wuxian pouted.

“Dumbass, of course, there are two schools here!”

The group waited and waited, the line was moving, but the sun and heat was making the time go by so slowly. Wei Wuxian saw how a drop of sweat rolled its way down Lan Wangji’s jaw.

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! Go ahead and move to the inside.”

Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji by the shoulder and swapped places with her.
“What are you doing?” Lan Wangji tilted her head.

“I’m taller so I can shade you from the sun. I’m outside for basketball all the time so I don’t sunburn as easily.”

Wei Wuxian pulled her sweater from around her waist before displaying it out above her head.
“Welcome to the Wei Ying little tent, I’ll be your guide today.”

Lan Wangji looked up at Wei Wuxian with a smile and Wei Wuxian looked away as she felt blood flood her face - only to meet eyes with Jiang Cheng, whose face was twisted in disgust.

“HAHA ChengCheng are you jealous of us?”

“SHUTUP!”

“Everyone! Please make a single line! We can only seat 48”
Wei Wuxian sighed with a pout as she pulled her hand from Lan Wangjis to move behind her.

“46. 47.48.”
Wei Wuxian followed behind Lan Wangji until she was stopped behind a rope.

“Ah!”

Lan Wangji turned at the sound Wei Wuxian made, to see she was still in the line. Lan Wangji's eyes widened slightly before she quickly pointed to Wei Wuxian.

“I’m with her!”

Wei Wuxian’s face heated up as Lan Wangji grabbed her hand over the rope and pushed herself back into the line. SHE’S SO CUTE!

LAN WANGJI POV

“That ride was so fun! What should we do next, Lan Zhan?!” Wei Wuxian smiled brilliantly despite her head still tilting from side to side after the last ride they took.

Lan Wangji shook her head slightly at Wei Wuxian's antics, “Let’s get some cold drinks.”

Wei Wuxian sat on a bench, pushing her backpack into her lap and Lan Wangji walked to the last place she saw a fountain. As Lan Wangji pushed the button of the soda machine she felt a blow to the back of her knee. Jiang Cheng had come up behind her, with his arm crossed.

“LAN WANGJI! You think you can pull my sister around? Even if she’s excited, you shouldn’t drag her around to get sick!”

Lan Wangji grabbed the drinks from the machine silently before turning back to find Wei Wuxian, still sitting on the bench but now on her phone. Lan Wangji walked up to Wei Wuxian before silently handing over the cold drink, and sitting on the other side of the bench. Lan Wangji glared down at the concrete, not able to make herself talk to Wei Wuxian- who pulled the tab of the drink.

“Lan Zhan?"

Lan Wangji didn't reply still staring at the ground.

"Are… you mad at me?”

Lan Wangji shook her head but didn’t reply again.

“Lan Zhan?”

“Wei Ying… you don’t feel well… Why didn’t you tell me?”

Lan Wangji pulled off her cap. “It’s fine, it’s fine, it will pass…LAN ZHAN~. I’m sorry, do not be angry~"
Wei Wuxian splayed herself over Lan Wangji's shoulder, "turn that frown upside down!”

Lan Wangji still stayed staring at the ground, she couldn't force herself to look up at Wei Wuxian. Suddenly a weight set over her lap. Wei Wuxian layed herself across Lan Wangji legs, hands around Lan Wangji's neck.

“Is jiejie still mad?”

Lan Wangji’s face bloomed bright red and her hands came to Wei Wuxian’s hips. She stared into Wei Wuxian’s eyes for a long second.

“I’m not mad. I want Wei Ying to tell me important things.”

Wei Wuxian leaned her neck limp backwards to stare into the sky. , “I just wanted today to be perfect.”

Lan Wangji nodded softly, Wei Wuxian’s skin was so warm, and the line Wei Wuxian’s of her throat was right there, right where Lan Wangji's teeth could reach. Lan Wangji shook her head slightly and pushed Wei Wuxian to stand before grabbing her hand and walking.

“Wait, Lan Zhan where are we going?”

“Just follow me.”

...

“Gift shop!”

Lan Wangji hummed softly before walking inside. Wei Wuxian looked all around, grabbing animal ears, placing them over Lan Wangji’s head.

“Hahaha Lan Zhan looks cute as a bunny.”

WEI WUXIAN POV

“Wei Ying, What did you get?”

Lan Wangji said from beside Wei Wuxian, who reached into the plastic back.

“It’s for your bag.”

It was a fat white bunny with a lopsided face and a blue ribbon hanging haphazardly around its head.

Wei Wuxian anxiously, “Haha it’s so ugly, right? But I thought that you might like it. Never mind!”

Lan Wangji stepped forward and grabbed the bunny from Wei Wuxian’s hands softly.

“I want it. You gave it to me.”

Wei Wuxian couldn’t help herself, Lan Wangji’s face at the little stuffed animal made her want to hold her. She grabbed the back of Lan Wangji’s head and pulled her forward, until Lan Wangji’s body fit into the front of hers. Lan Wangji’s face pressed into Wei Wuxians collarbone. She was more than sure that Lan Wangji could hear her heart beating, loud and fast. Lan Wangji face pushed more firmly into Wei Wuxian’s chest before wrapping her arms around her waist.

“Thank you.”

“Hahaha, Lan Zhan~ Did I make you blush? HAHA!!!! AH!! DON’T BITE ME!!!!!!”

Chapter Text

LAN WANGJI POV

Wei Wuxian pulled the hair out of her bun with a sigh, “AH! Sucks that I couldn’t get you a souvenir coin~”

Lan Wangji walked beside her while squishing the face of the mini stuffed bunny keychain. “Its alright, The craftsmanship was not very good.”

Wei Wuxian grabbed Lan Wangji’s arm, squishing herself close, pulling a lollipop from her pocket and unwrapping it haphazardly. “But I thought it would be nice to have something to remember this trip by.”

Lan Wangji looked over at Wei Wuxian as the other stuffed the candy in her mouth, eyebrows perking up.

“Where did you get that candy?” Wei Wuxian's face broke into a large grin as she popped the candy in her mouth.

“HAHAH I bought it just now! Do you want some?”

Wei Wuxian grabbed the stick of the lollipop, shaking the candy in her mouth, covering it with drool.

“HERE!”

Lan Wangji’s face pinched nd her ears began to heat up, but she said nothing as Wei Wuxian laughed loudly.

“Lan Zhan~ Lan Zhan~ I’m kidding! Can you protect my candy for me, I’ll be back!”

Lan Wangji could not respond before Wei Wuxian was sprinting into the crowd.

Protect it?....

Lan Wangj looked down at the candy in her hand as it shone and waited one minute. Then two. Then five.

Where is she?

Lan Wangji looked left and right with a sigh before looking back to the now dry lollipop. Where Wei Wuxian’s mouth had been, and felt the blood from her ears begin to move towards her cheeks. Not seeing Wei Wuxian’s head she pulled the candy closer to her mouth, not quite touching her lips.

…Wei Ying wouldn’t have to know…

Lan Zhan's lips parted slighly, steeling herself to barely lick the candy, when Wei Wuxian's voice broke her obsession.

“LAN! ZHAN!”

Lan Wangji quickly pulled the candy away from her face before pushing the lollipop back into Wei Wuxian’s hands, face bright red.

“What took you so long?”

Wei Wuxian grinned wide, “Here, Memorabilia Coin! It was tough to find but I want Lan Zhan to always remember this trip!”

“Eat your candy.”

WEI WUXIAN POV

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian walk through the amusement park arcade arm in arm until a punching machine comes into sight. Wei Wuxian pulls Lan Wangji forward as she begins to put on a blue Boxing glove.

"I’ll win that, Lan Zhan!”

Lan Wangji looks at the game carefully, “Hmm! Wei Ying can try.”

“HUH?! How can you say that?! I’ll win, I promise!” Wei Wuxian half shouted incredulously while she inserted the coins, a loud song blares from the speakers and a voice yells out.

“READY… FIGHT!”

Wei Wuxian pulls back her arm, slamming her gloved fist into the punching bag. The bag slightly sways as a black and white screen lights up and sad trombone music plays.

“YOU LOSE!”

Wei Wuxian covers her face with the gloves “HUH?!! WHAT THE HECK?!”

Lan Wangji lets out a single puff of air and Wei Wuxian takes the gloves off and pushes them towards Lan Wangji.

“Don’t laugh! Lan Zhan you try! Come on, come on~”

“Are you sure?” Lan Wangji asks as she carefully slips the gloves on before glancing at Wei Wuxian who crouches to add more coins.

“GO GO! LAN! ZHAN! GO GO!”

The screen turns back on and a voice starts again.

“READY… FIGHT!”

Lan Wangji sets her feet and pulls her arm closer to her chest before swinging it out quickly. As her fist connects to the bag, a loud bang travels through the air. The bag falls back as a loud voice rings out, red lights up along the screen, and a whirling chime rings.

“YOU WIN!”

Wei Wuxian stares aghast at the screen. Before she slowly turns her head to Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji’s face is as neutral as ever.

“Holy shit! Lan Zhan, you’re so strong!"

Wei Wuxian grabs Lan Wangji around the shoulders.

“Hahaha! I can’t believe it! Did you box before?!”

Lan Wangji shakes her head slightly.

“Uncle preferred Tai Chi and Handstanding, it’s not traditionally a fighting style as much as a meditation but it requires a great deal of arm strength.”

Wei Wuxian lets go of Lan Wangji and adds more coins, “You have to go again!”

Lan Wangji rolls her eyes and smiles before assuming the same stance. Lan Wangji repeats the game over and over as Wei Wuxian puts coins into the machine. Out of the corner of her eye, Wei Wuxian sees a man backing up closer and closer to the two of them.

What is this dude’s problem? He’s been standing near us for a while, is he in line? There are other games.

‘YOU WIN!”

Chiming resounds loudly as Wei Wuxian glances down at the man’s hand.

The man’s hand is close to the end of Lan Wangji’s skirt, with the phone facing upwards on record. Wei Wuxian doesn’t think before smashing her hand into the guy's arm. The phone clatters on the ground as he yells.

“WHAT THE FUCK, BITCH?”

Wei Wuxian lifts her leg, smashing her foot into the phone and grinding her heel into the glass screen. Wei Wuxian pushes the man to the floor and barely registers Lan Wangji’s voice over the ringing in her ears. Wei Wuxian clambers over the man where she grabs the man’s hoodie around the throat and bashing the man’s head against the floor.

“FUCKING DELETE IT. NOW!!!!”
