Work Text:

Catra hated being in the Horde.

Everything there was a reminder of Adora, of her leaving.
She was glad she had gotten a room to herself as a result of being promoted to force captain, she couldn't stand sleeping on the same bunk that she and Adora used to share. Catra would never admit that out loud to anyone though. Even though she didn't sleep there anymore she still wasn't used to sleeping alone, sometimes when she tried to sleep she could still practically hear Adora's soft snoring.

Catra decided she didn't like sleeping anymore.

Catra was so angry at Adora, and she was angry at herself. Adora left her for some people she barely even knew and didn't even hesitate to leave her behind. Catra felt so stupid, how could she have done that after all those promises, all those years? After everything they had been through together, it turns out that Catra wasn't a good enough reason to stay. She threw everything away for some princess and an archer, people who she only knew for a few hours. She chose the enemy over the person she's known her whole life, her best friend. Adora asking Catra to go with her just felt like salt in the wound. Catra was only an afterthought to Adora, she was never actually going to go back for her. Was Catra that inconsequential to her?

Adora had explained to Catra that the Horde is Evil, that they are hurting innocent people, and because she saw for herself what they were doing Adora decided to leave. Catra was so shocked that Adora was barely figuring this out, after what Adora had witnessed Shadow Weaver do to Catra, she felt betrayed that Adora had never known throughout all those years. Catra knew better than anyone else that the horde was evil and that they hurt innocent people because Catra herself was one of the innocent people that the horde had hurt, abused even. Adora only leaving now tells Catra that she never meant enough to make Adora leave when they were abusing her, it wasn't even enough to make her dislike the Horde or Shadow Weaver in any way. But now that they're hurting random strangers-- and PRINCESSES of all people, Adora suddenly cares. In Catra's eyes, it's so very obvious that she was never truly a priority or ever meant enough to Adora to make her stay, or even leave with her way before any of this happened. Adora never really cared did she? If Catra ever meant anything to Adora then why did she abandon Catra-- her best friend who she had known her whole life just to join some strangers? (Who are on the rebellion's side of all things) without even going back for Catra?

This was when Catra remembered something she had learned very early on in life. Love is finite.

Catra couldn't understand how Adora could be praised and honored as a hero when she couldn't even stick with the one person she had promised to help, the one person she promised to be with forever. Catra couldn't understand how Adora was so perfectly okay and happy with Catra out of the picture, she'd had a feeling something like this would happen but she still had hopes that Adora wouldn't leave her but then she did and it felt like the end of the world. Her safety was gone, her best friend was gone. Catra liked to pretend that she was better off without Adora because if Catra never needed Adora in the first place then it won't hurt anymore right?

Catra was wrong.

It hurt so badly. Adora-- Her Adora was gone and isn't coming back. Adora left her in the fright zone all alone.
Adora was the only person Catra had ever truly loved, but now Adora was gone. She was taken away by She-ra and her stupid princess friends. She's not coming back. The one person who Catra had loved with all her heart, the only person who had ever cared for Catra was gone. She left without a second thought, without even considering what would happen to Catra when she left. Had all those promises Adora had made with Catra meant nothing to her? The promise that they would always be together--she broke it without hesitation. The person who was supposed to love Catra, who Catra was friends with, who Catra would tease, who Catra loved, was gone.

She's gone.
