The Shamouti Incident: What Happened to the Legendary Birds?

By: Cinder Snagem

Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice and lightning. Lest these Titans wreak havoc upon the world in which they clash. Though the Water’s Great Guardian shall quell the fighting, Alone it’s song will fail. Thus the earth shall turn to ash. O chosen one, Into thine hands bring together all three. Their treasures combined tame the Beast of The Sea. From the trio of islands, ancient spheres shall you take. For between life and death, all the difference you'll make. Climb to the shrine to right what is wrong. And the world shall be healed by the Guardian's song… ”

This is one of the major prophecies belonging to the Shamouti Islands.

And I have had the honour and displeasure of witnessing such destruction first hand.

It wasn’t until after the Birds had been calmed that I realised that this didn’t only affect the Shamouti Island, but also the world. So allow me to explain.

Every year, the Shamouti Island holds a festival, where they celebrate and honour the Legendary Birds of Fire, Ice and Lightning. Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos respectively.

My friends, who we will refer to as Rain and Boulder, were travelling with me at the time, and we happened across the Island during the time its festival was to take place.

According to tradition, at this festival a Shrine Maiden will choose one person as “The Chosen One” and will set them on a small quest to retrieve the orbs of Fire, Ive and Lightning from the domains of their respective Legendaries.

I was chosen this year.

What followed would be the most insane and dangerous experience of my life.

After obtaining the orbs and placing them in order on the shrine, the festival began. All was well, until the weather went haywire.

The sky split into three at first. A heavy snowstorm, dark storm clouds with endless thunder and lightning, and a drought.

The Legendary Birds had begun their fight. It was at this point that the civilians of Shamouti realised the prophecy they held in such high regard could very well be true.

And as the person I was, I ran headfirst into the fight, with Rain, Boulder and the Shrine Maiden we befriended.

Lugia then arrived, and like the prophecy had stated, its song had failed. Leaving no choice but for my friends and I to intervene.

Never in my life did I think I would ever have to ride on the back of a Legendary, into a battle between other Legendaries.

But here I was, doing that exact thing.

Everything was fine in the end, with minimal damages to the Islands buildings and no casualties. Aside from some injuries sustained in the panicked crowds of the festival goers, not much harm was done by the Birds themselves.

Around the world, people have faced drastic weather changes, and I hope that everyone out there is safe and uninjured.

Celebi: the Time Travelling Enigma

By: Cinder Snagem

Celebi is an interesting Mythical Pokemon. Being one of two higher beings capable of messing with time itself. Considering how much it time travels, it’s interesting to think how it and Dialga would get along.

This isn’t that story, but it's just as interesting.

I was travelling through a forest in Johto with Rain and Boulder and we entered Arborville. Upon arriving, we immediately see Suicune on a riverbank.

After talking with a trusted family friend, he admits to also seeing Suicune once while in his younger days, however, I never got a full explanation as we had to leave.

We met a man who led us to the forest, then we were warned by an elder and her granddaughter about the ‘Voice of the Forest’. Immediately afterwards, Celebi arrived with another trainer I’ll refer to as S, who realises he’s been displaced in time.

We take S under our wing to help him out, but we are soon disturbed by the infamous Team Rocket and another person known as the ‘Marauder’.

We heal Celebi and sleep for the night, and the next day, we’re disturbed by the Marauder, and they use a Pokeball called the ‘Dark Ball’ on Celebi. Trapping it and turning it to their side to use for evil.

One of the Team Rocket Members was captured, and we found out the Marauders true plan. Defeat Team Rocket and take over the world.

Obviously, I wasn’t going to let that happen.

Me, S and my partner Pokemon I’ll call Zap, convince Celebi to return to normal, and drop its armour.

It works and Celebi is freed.

But not without a price.

We took Celebi to the lakeside like it wanted us to, but we were too late, and it passed away.

Suicune purifies the lake for us, but it doesn’t work. We thought all hope was lost, when the ‘Voice of the Forest’ arrived.

A Celebi from a different place in time.

Using its time powers, Celebi revives the one in our arms, and it’s time for S to go back home.

It was quite the adventure, to say the least. But I’m glad everything worked out in the end, and I hope that Celebi really stays safe.

The Marauder was put behind bars by Officer Jenny, and it has been assured that they will never be coming back.

Entei and the Mysterious Unown’s

By: Cinder Snagem

Entei is a Legendary Beast, said to have been revived by Ho-oh itself after perishing in the burning of Bell Tower.

Unown are strange Pokemon shaped like letters of the Unovan alphabet, said to be capable of making wishes come true, not unlike Jirachi.

This wish felt more like a nightmare.

Who would’ve thought my journey would lead up to my own mother being kidnapped.

One moment, everyone was having fun, the next, Entei came from nowhere and kidnapped her.

Rain, Boulder and I went after them and we were met with a giant crystal palace.

We travelled the best we could, eventually coming face to face with the one who made the wish for her parents, a little girl we’ll call Gift.

The real Gift was in her room fast asleep, but we faced off an illusory version of her. First Boulder, but her illusion Pokemon were stronger than his.

Then Rain battles her and it’s a bit nicer but she still loses.

While they were all distracted, I managed to sneak off and find the real Gift, Entei and my mom. I asked Entei to return my mother, but it refused. I was easily beaten, then thrown off a ledge.

My Charizard came in the nick of time, how he found me, I didn’t know, but at that time I didn’t really care.

Gift wakes up and realises her actions were more harmful than good, and stops Entei from unleashing a full force attack, and we convince Gift to join us and return everything back to normal.

Then, the Unowns went berserk, we were all trapped in the crystal palace, and with the help of all our Pokemon plus Entei, we managed to reverse everything, allowing the Unown to return home.

This story has a happy ending, after all was said and done, I parted with Charizard again, but Gift was finally reunited with her father and long-lost mother.

My own mom was very upset with me almost sacrificing myself back there, and I was definitely in for the scolding of a lifetime, but again at that point we didn’t focus on that, and instead the fact that everything was okay again.

Moral of the story? Don’t mess with Unown, we don’t know where they are currently, but better safe than sorry.

The Kingdom of Rota

By : Cinder Snagem

A few years back, when I was fighting in the Battle Frontier, I happened across the kingdom of Rota, a relatively small and peaceful kingdom run by Her Majesty, Queen Ilene.

Boulder still travelled with me, but I had two new companions we’ll call Specs and Spring.

When we arrived, it was the day of a festival to celebrate Sir Aaron, an Aura Guardian.

We were allowed to participate in the event, and Queen Ilene graciously offered us costumes from her personal line up in Cameron Palace.

The day went on and I ended up winning the festival, and as a prize, I was allowed to hold the staff that Sur Aaron wielded during his time.

Later on, we encountered Mew, who was being chased by an adventurer attempting to place a tracker on it. My partner Pokemon fainted in the process of protecting it.

During the scuffle, Sir Aaron’s Lucario (who was apparently sealed away in the staff) was released, and together we ran to the Tree of Beginning to help rescue my partner Pokemon, who was taken by Mew.

Lucario didn’t trust us, which was understandable seeing as how they were trapped in a staff for so long, but after Specs gained their trust, we eventually gained their trust as well.

Enough for Lucario to sacrifice themselves.

We later found out that the Tree of Beginning was slowly dying away, and that’s why Mew was so antsy.

I tried helping with reversing the Tree’s dying process, and it worked well, but then Lucario pushed me away and finished off the process,

And they died.

It was a horrible feeling. Knowing that Lucario saved me from a similar fate, and I still feel the survivors' guilt to this very day.

The takeaway from this story is to not take things for granted.

Chapter 5: Alto Mare Article

Notes:

Now should be a good time for me to say that these posts aren’t all gonna be done in chronological order. Not only cuz I get stuff mixed up, but it also helps in making it difficult for people to pinpoint who Cinder Snagem really is.

Two Sides of the Eons: Latios & Latias

By: Cinder Snagem

Alto Mare, a beautiful city with lovely waterways, the sun reflecting off the water and dew around the city made it sparkle unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

The first thing I did there was jump into action, I ended up saving a girl we’ll call Lila for now, from Team Rocket agents.

Immediately, my friends and I did a tour of the local museum, and I ended up running into Lila again. The only thing was that she didn’t recognize me, which ended up in a city wide chase.

Lila eventually recognized me and took me away from civilization, which immediately raised red flags until I realised that Lila, or the Lila I saved, wasn’t even human at all.

She was a Pokemon.

More specifically, a Latias, one of the two legendaries of the Eon Duo.

Later on, at night, the Team Rocket agents attacked, taking a Latios and a Soul Dew, but Latias escaped.

Lila and her grandfather B attempt to stop the thieves from using the D.M.A. (Defense Mechanism of Alto Mare) but are captured, the Soul Dew and Latios are used to power the machine.

Latias then came to me for help, with Latios using his "Sight Sharing" ability to show us what had happened.

One of the Rocket Agents then becomes power hungry, using the D.M.A. to revive the Kabutops and Aerodactyl in the museum, and initiates a citywide lockdown to prevent interference.

Latias, my partner Pokemon, and I evade the lockdown, racing to the museum while being pursued by the Kabutops and Aerodactyl.

The mad Rocket Agent tries to stop us, but Latias' psychic powers cause the D.M.A. to go out of control. Reaching the museum, we rescue Latios and shut down the machine. However, the other Rocket Agent tries to take the blackened Soul Dew, which shatters, causing all of the city's water to flow out and return as a tidal wave.

Latias and Latios combine their powers to stop the wave, with Latios giving his life in the process. The Kabutops and Aerodactyl are returned to their fossilised states, while the Agents remain trapped in the D.M.A..

We all find Latias, realising Latios has sadly died, but they share one last vision as he passes away.

Several days later, Rain, Boulder and I get ready to leave Alto Mare, saying goodbye to B, but Lila does not appear. On our way out of the city, we spot Lila on the docks and approach her. Lila gives me a sketch of me and our partner Pokemon, kisses me on the cheek, and leaves without saying a word. I bid her goodbye and we are left wondering whether the girl was really Lila or Latias.

Thankfully, the two Team Rocket Agents who have been apprehended are soon saved by authorities and sent to prison to pay for their crimes. So, much like the Marauder, these two will not be returning to crime any time soon.

Jirachi and the Wish of the Millenium

By: Cinder Snagem

Every one thousand years, a comet known as the Millennium Comet will make its way to our galaxy, and shoot across the sky as a beautiful, colourful shooting star. It lasts 7 days before exiting our view, never to be seen again for another one thousand years.

While I was in the Hoenn Region, my friends and I were just lucky enough to see it.

We came across a crater that was said to have been created by a previous Millennium Comet, but we saw nothing. Because of this, we decided to wait until morning and go to sleep. While we were sleeping, the festival arrived, and we were lucky they let us stay and watch them set up.

At the festival, Spring buys a seven-panelled novelty that is said to grant a person one wish if a panel is closed for each night the comet appears and is visible in the sky. Later, Specs and I somehow ended up volunteering for a magic trick because of a voice Specs heard, which he claimed came from the rock a woman was holding.

When on stage, Specs said he heard talking from inside the rock again. The magician let Specs take the rock, from which Jirachi emerges later that night. Hoping its wishing ability is true, Specs wishes for much candy, and it appears – but it is revealed that instead of creating the candy, Jirachi teleported it from a stall in the festival.

The intentions of the magician were soon revealed: he was a former scientist for Team Magma, which was unfortunately one of the two evil teams that worked in the region of Hoenn; they were seeking to resurrect the Legendary Pokémon Groudon.

The scientist was fired, and in an act of spite, he hoped to use Jirachi's energy for his own purposes, which was to fuel his machine. Seeing this danger, an Absol approached us, whose presence usually indicates impending disaster, which alerted us that something was about to go wrong.

The scientist attempted to harness Jirachi's power, but was interrupted inside the circus tent by my friends and I. With the help of Absol and the woman from the magic show, we took a bus to somewhere far off so that Jirachi can go home; unknown to us, the scientist’s Mightyena placed a tracking device on the bus as it was leaving.

As we all travelled along bumpy terrain, the device fell off, but the scientist still discovered where we were headed.

Unfortunately, the scientist managed to kidnap Jirachi and he sets his plan in motion, he is shocked to find out that his work didn't create a resurrected Groudon, but instead created a giant monster resembling Groudon. The fake Groudon soon begins to consume all of life by absorbing the energy from the surrounding area, turning the beautiful nature into a wasteland by killing all plants in sight and absorbing all living creatures.

When the woman he was with was absorbed by the fake Groudon, the scientist realised his long-time relationship with her was what was more important, and with mine and Spec’s help he was able to distract the fake Groudon.

Eventually, Jirachi reabsorbs the energy used to create the fake Groudon, and used Doom Desire to destroy it for good, before leaving for another thousand years of slumber. Spring, in all the excitement, forgot to close the last panel of her novelty, but simply brushes it off. Though she never revealed what she wished for, she was confident it would still come true. Before we left, Spec hears Jirachi's voice one last time, reminding him that they will always be friends.

It was such a heartwarming thing to see play out in the end, despite all the horrible things that happened before. I have no doubt in my mind that Jirachi now slumbers peacefully with dreams of its friend.
