Shits and Giggles

Summary:

Logan, as the most serious and no-nonsense side, barely ever laughs. So, the other sides decide to see who can make him laugh first, and find out what kind of sense of humor this guy would have. Remus finds out about this, and is so confident he would be able to, he makes a bet. What happens though, if he actually does manage to make him laugh, and would the relationship between Logan and Remus change after?

Notes:

This is my first ever fic!! (At least that I’m posting) so I hope it’s good, some of my sanity is probably in this because of the massive amount of brain rot I get from this ship specifically. It needs more content!! So I’m here to throw my words at you please enjoy.

Chapter 1: Funny Bone

Chapter Text

There are a few basic things to know about the Sander’s household. 1: do not try to talk to Virgil while he listening to music, 2: don't make fun of Romans' favorite Disney movie of the week, 3: come to mandatory family dinner or Patton will cry, and 4: It's extremely hard to make Logan laugh, so don't even try.

And despite this, it's become sort of a game by the other sides to try to make him laugh, but like really laugh.

Patton so far has only been able to get chuckles out of him. Virgil as well, but just a chuckle, Roman said it didn’t count. Remus just so happened to be able to catch on to their behavior.

Unlike Logan, Remus wouldn't hesitate to be the loudest thing in the room whenever possible, it’s like he couldn’t bear to be anything but. Seeing everyone failing to make Logan laugh was just too funny to him. Logan was the only one who really got to him. Logan would never admit that it was the same on his part.

Logan wasn’t fazed by Remus, as he has said before, he has no real-world impact. He actually was secretly pleased whenever Remus would appear because then the others would turn to Logan for once. But he would never say that out loud. Secretly Remus could actually get under Logan’s skin sometimes, and it was frustrating

“Dinner!” Patton yelled from downstairs.

And surely, everyone made their way downstairs. Always in the same order. Roman, Logan, and then Virgil last. Roman and Virgil would always sit next to each other and Patton at the end of the table, Logan on the left.

But tonight Logan was a bit late. He was upstairs finishing a chapter in his book, and Remus took it as the perfect chance, and he walked up to the table. “Got room for one more?”

—-----------

Patton nearly dropped his plate and the other two turned around abruptly. The darksides didn't eat dinner with them, ever. Sure, Patton eventually asked if they wanted to (out of guilt mostly) but they declined. So this was a surprise to be sure. Roman narrowed his eyes at him.

Patton hesitantly smiled and sat down “...oh uh..sure! I mean if you want to. I made pasta..”

“Sure! Got any straws!” Remus started going through their cabinets and got a plate for the food. Dumping on an unholy amount of pasta sauce.

Roman cleared his throat “what do you want, Remus?”

“What?? Can't a man enjoy some quality spaghetti without being questioned?” Remus sucked some through his straw “ew never mind, this shits way under-salted.”

“You know that's not the reason you came up here” Roman stated flatly.

“Alright, alright, since you're dying to know, I wanted to participate in the little game you guys have been playing. You know, the one with Logan?”

“What on earth are you talking about?” Virgil said “..you mean, when we try to make him laugh”

“Bingo emo!”

Everyone at the table paused and glanced at each other “why? I wouldn't think you would find that very interesting?” Patton spoke up.

“Yeah! Besides it’s not like you even have a shot at it.” Roman laughed. Virgil rolled his eyes.

Remus fake gasped “Well it's certainly not any of your business if I can or can't, Roman! Shouldn't I be able to take a stab at your apathetic friends' brains? Doesn't seem fair to the game if you ask me.” He emphasized the “stab” in the sentence by thrusting his fork into his food, making a loud screeching noise from the plate. Remus put his feet on the table and leaned back in his chair.

“It's not really a game, Remus..” Patton responded passively. “We're just kind of curious to see what he finds funny, seeing as he's so stoic most of the time..”

“Sorry I'm late, what's all the commotion about?” Logan said on his way down the stairs, he stopped suddenly halfway once he saw Remus turn around and grin at him.

“Well, speak of that handsome devil! We were just talking about you!” Remus yelled, Logan held back a sigh and quickly gained his composer.

“Hello, Remus. I see you're joining us for dinner?” Logan said matter of factly, making his way to the kitchen and getting some food. The only seat left was next to Remus, and he grinned pulling the remaining empty chair closer to himself. Logan inwardly winced and hesitantly sat down.

“You bet I am, dork. Trying something new ya know? I get bored of eating alone! Patton made pasta, and even though it tasted like shit you might like it!” Remus had gotten pasta sauce all over the table where he was sitting.

“Clearly you ate it though?” Logan said looking at the mess that he was probably going to have to clean later.

“Nah I shoved it up my ass. Of course I ate it, it's free food!”

“Ah, of course, pleasant as always, Remus.” He forced a tight smile and decided to direct his focus on his food rather than Remus for the rest of dinner, much to Remus’s dismay. The others were chatting among themselves and Remus would interject sometimes. Logan would comment here or there. Really this dinner was pretty much the same as every other one, even with Remus there. He would ask later why he was there, hopefully he had no ulterior motives.

—-------------

Dinner was over, and everyone went back to doing whatever after finishing chores. Roman and Virgil turned on the TV and watched a movie together, and Patton was on the computer looking at cat memes. They would switch up who did the chores every night after dinner, and since Patton cooked every night it was split up between Roman, Virgil, and Logan.

Tonight Roman swept, Virgil took out the trash and cleaned counters, which left the worst job for last. Dishes for Logan. If Thomas stopped procrastinating about getting the dishwasher fixed it wouldn't be as much of a problem, because now the mind palaces’ dishwasher is broken too for some unexplained reason. While everyone else was doing their thing Logan started on the dishes. Good thing he minded doing them the least.
He was listening to the TV play in the living room and thinking. Usually, his mind would wander off while doing monotonous tasks, he turned on the sink letting the water from the faucet run over his hands. The sink filled with warm soapy water.

He was instantly brought back to reality when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“Need a hand?”

Logan turned his head to see none other than Remus, holding his severed hand, of course. He forgot Remus was still here.

“No thanks, Remus..” Logan pushed Remus’ hand off his shoulder “I don't want to deal with broken glass on the floor again.”

“Oh come on, that was one time! I guess I'll just have to invite myself then.” Remus threw the hand over his shoulder and walked over to the other side of the sink, drying dishes. Logan eyed him suspiciously and hesitantly started handing him dishes. This was very odd for him. Every time he would give Remus a dish he expected it to be thrown back at his head.

Remus looked behind them into the living room, the couch was facing away from them and he could see Romans' arm behind Virgil. Remus groaned.

“God, could they just get a room already” Remus made a fake gagging noise.

“You mean Roman and Virgil? They already have rooms, Remus.” Logan added.

“Well, they obviously don't use them... Hey Logan, you wanna know what we were talking about?”

He honestly wasn’t that curious about it until Remus brought it up again. He didn’t care if they spoke about him or not, it was probably something unimportant anyway. “Sure, why not.”

“Well, lately the others have been doing a sort of experiment on you. They wanna know what you find funny, so they have been trying to make you laugh all week. I usually wouldn’t give two shits but it has been so funny to watch, we all know you don't have a sense of humor.” He glanced at Logan on that last remark. He was obviously just trying to get a rise out of Logan, so he ignored that last part.

That makes sense, what other reason would they have to be paying more attention to him than usual? “Well if that has been their goal this whole time then they have not been doing the greatest job.” Logan stated, keeping his focus on the dishes.

“That's why it's my turn to have a go, whaddya say Logie? Think I can tickle your funny bone?” Logan finally turned his head to face him.

“No.” Logan deadpanned.

Remus paused “Damn… You won't even give me a chance! Guess I'll have to play my best to prove you wrong then!”

“I'm not “playing” this is ridiculous.”

“Listen listen, how about a deal? If I can make you laugh by the end of the week I get bragging rights and the respect I so obviously deserve. If I can't make you laugh by the end of the week…uh..you can choose! Anything your heart desires.”

Logan paused briefly and thought…

"The book I'm reading right now, I'm almost done with it and I don't have the second one. If I win you buy me the next book in the series."

"....wait that's it! That's really all you want!"

"Honestly I don't need anything much else, plus you didn't ask for much either.”

“I mean there are other ways you could reward me~” Remus leaned on the counter and raised his eyebrows in a cartoonish fashion

“NO."

Remus shrugged “Well worth a shot, so do you agree?”

Logan sighed “I guess I might as well if it will get you and the others off my back.”

Remus jumped on his toes “perfect! Get ready to laugh your non-existent ass off!! ”

Remus dried the last dish, but before he could go back to his room Logan cleared his throat behind him

"Thank you for helping with the dishes, Remus. It's…appreciated when you try and help.”

"Oh, yeah I was only doing that to get your attention. Don’t expect any more of that! But your welcome whale penis!" he then did a dramatic bow and left without another word.

Logan walked over to the couch to watch the rest of the movie with Roman and Virgil. Patton joined them a little bit ago, and Virgil was asleep on Romans' shoulder. Logan always was bad with relationships and feelings-e stuff, but it was so obvious that Roman and Virgil liked each other that even he could tell. They would probably get together soon if they are not already, Logan thought.

He thought back to what had just happened, the chances of him laughing at something Remus would say or do are very little. So, why not take him up on his challenge? It would be mind-numbingly easy.

He had this in the "bag" as the kids would say.

Chapter 2: Let the Games Begin!

Summary:

Short chapter, I’m posting a lot of chapters at once and this was the best way to cut it up, the next one will be shorter too. (P.S if you don’t think cereal is a soup you will be offended by this chapter)

Chapter Text

Since that day, Remus appeared around the house more and more often. Using every trick in the book, after only the second day he was practically next to him 24-7. No one in the house had ever seen him that focused on something for so long, especially Logan, and it kinda creeped the others out. But Logan seemed fine the whole time, as if this was the usual.

The third day of the week was the same, Logan went to the cabinet to get some coffee and Remus popped out yelling “Taxes!” for some reason.

“Goodmorning Remus, are you trying to scare me today?” Logan grabbed the coffee cup next to him.

Remus fell out of the cabinet head first and broke his neck. “Damn it!!” then he snapped it back in place.
“Really Remus. You're going to have to try harder than that.” Logan stated with a small smile.

Remus got up and sighed “God, I have to admit that this is harder than I originally thought it would be…” Remus got some cereal from a different cabinet than the one he was just in. He tore open the box and started taking out fistfuls of cereal and shoving them in his mouth, while Logan finished making his coffee and sat down at the table.
Remus got some milk out of the fridge and sat down right next to Logan, chugging half of it straight from the carton.

Remus looked over to Logan who glanced up at him.

“It's technically a cereal breakfast when you think about it” Remus explained, “it's all going in the same place so basically it's cereal once it reaches your stomach.”

Logan paused “...No I don't think that's correct...Since it's separate while you're eating it, so you’re not getting the taste of cereal in milk.”

“Is it about the taste or is it about what time it's eaten in what order? I still say it’s normal cereal.”

Before Logan could respond Remus interrupted “People think it’s gross to eat cereal with orange juice right? But if you drink orange juice with cereal then it's technically orange juice and milk mixed with the cereal once it reaches your stomach. So just get the extra step out of the way and mix orange juice AND milk into your cereal.” Remus smiled.

“..Again, you're not tasting the orange juice and the cereal at the same time, unless you drink it with the dry cereal still in your mouth. Taking this back to the previous debate, it's not technically cereal in milk because the food isn't put together yet so it's not the specific meal, if you could call cereal a meal. Think of it like soup. Just because you eat the ingredients in the soup and the broth separate it won't be soup in your stomach because the ingredients haven't mixed during consumption, creating a new flavor and sometimes texture. That is when you can call it normal cereal because that is the specific name for those ingredients once they are put together into new food. Otherwise, you’re just eating dry cereal and some milk.”

Remus paused “...so what your saying is…cereal is soup?”

Logan was about to disagree but thought a moment “huh...well according to the definition of soup, I guess it technically is but that wasn’t what I was trying to say.”

“Yeah, uh about that, I don’t speak nerd so I'm just going to pretend you agreed with me.” Remus looked over to Logan who finished his coffee.

“Well, it’s not up to me how you like to eat it so do it however you please.” He got up and put his cup in the sink. “I have some work I need to catch up on so if you’ll excuse me.”

“Oh yeah yeah, go do you’re geek shit or whatever, it's not like it will matter in the long run anyway, but thanks for the chat!”

Logan thought to himself for a moment, he guessed they did just have a fairly normal chat, even though most of it was him explaining things. He had to admit he did love debates. “You know, our “chat” was fairly tolerable, so thanks to you as well.” Logan smiled, he always thought it would be nice to not have him constantly opposing all the other sides, after all, he is a part of Thomas and therefore had a purpose and a place among the sides.

“Well jee, I have to say, I'm flattered teach! See ya around! Don't miss me too much!”

Logan smiled to himself and went up the stairs to his room. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if Remus was around him constantly for another four days. Being able to talk to him without him interrupting certainly made things easier. He felt, ironically, relaxed.

Though, for Virgil lately, things were anything but relaxed.

Chapter 3: “My Chemically Imbalanced Romance!”

Summary:

Here is one of the few chapters of Roman x Virgil content you will receive, I need the wholesome.

Chapter Text

Virgil woke up in the middle of the night, he had fallen asleep on the couch while he and Roman were watching something as they usually would. Usually Roman woke him up. But tonight they both ended up laying cuddled up against each other. Virgil was so caught off guard by it he ended up waking Roman up.

“I-I am so sorry I had no idea I fell asleep..” Virgil was picking at his hands and he sat up “Why didn't you wake me!”

“Um...Well, I guess I just ended up falling asleep too, and you looked so comfortable!” Roman sat up and tried to calm Virgil down “it was just an accident Virgil, besides I am the one who was invading your personal space.”

“No, nope I am so sorry, gosh this is awkward.” Virgil put his hands on his face, he could feel it was heating up. “I’ll just go back to my room now.” He stood up, even though he missed the embrace of Roman.

“Ah, wait hold on! Virgil can we just slow down for a second!” He paused “I…I know you haven't been sleeping well lately, I can tell.”

“... It's not your problem, Roman.”

“Virgil…If you’re having issues with anything you should talk to us..to me... You know we will support and help you.”

Virgil paused and let out a long sigh, sitting back down.

“It’s not a big deal Roman, I don't need you to be a hero for me. This…what's been going on between us has been freaking me out. Whatever this even is!..”

Roman opened his mouth to say something but stopped. “...I um..” he looked at him. “I'm...Sorry, I know things have been confusing between us lately and I… it's been scary for me too. I just, I don't think I can hold it in anymore! And I know haven't been thinking about what you are comfortable with and pushing things...I'm sorry. I..I really like you, Virgil.” He put his hands out in front of him “So… it's okay if you don't feel the same, nothing will be different between our friendship..but can you can trust me..and let us help you if you’re in need?”

Virgil looked at the offered hand and looked away, good thing it was dark so Roman wouldn't see how red his face was “Heh, it's funny. You sound just like an actual prince in a fairytale.”

“And you can be my sleeping beauty!” Roman laughed, even though it sounded more like a question than a statement. Virgil rolled his eyes.

Virgil then took his hands and chuckled “I…do feel the same. I trust you… The bad puns are Patton's job though.”

Roman laughed and squeezed his hands lightly in excitement. He couldn’t be happier.

“Alright hot topic, we should both get some beauty sleep then, this couch is horrible on my back.” Roman said standing up, letting go of Virgil's hands. “Goodnight.”

Virgil watched him go up the stairs to his room. Roman decided to skip brushing his teeth, through all the excitement he forgot he was still pretty tired. He flopped onto his bed. He was so happy that everything went well. Virgil meant so, so much to him.

Then there was a knock at the door.
Roman sighed, did he and Virgil wake one of the other sides up? He pulled himself out of his bed and opened the door. He stopped abruptly when he saw it was Virgil standing behind it.

“Um..hello? Did you need something else? Need me to vanquish a bug in your room or something..heh” Roman had a lump in his throat for some reason.
“Nah, Roman I..” he paused and looked down “Can I sleep in here tonight….like, next to you..” he was fiddling with his hoodie strings.

Romans's face instantly heated up and turned bright red. It took a moment for his brain to catch up with his mouth.

“Um, I mean sure! I-I don't see why not, if you want to of course! That's fine with me.”

“Cool.” He shoved past him and fell on the bed, rolling to face toward the wall and he put his hood up.

Roman closed the door and walked to the bed, laying on the edge of it trying to give Virgil as much space as he could. “Well, goodnight” Roman smiled and turned off the light. They layed until the silence was broken by Virgil turning around and hugging Romans' arm.

Virgil hesitated, but he softly spoke “I..uh missed hugging you..no wait that sounds weird. Um, I'm sorry about freaking out earlier. I just got caught up in the moment and didn't want to make things weird…” He rolled over and hugged Romans' chest “so hopefully I'm not the biggest hypocrite in the world but if we're just like this im okay..small steps?”

Roman smiled and turned over wrapping an arm around Virgil as well.
“Small steps are good, we’ll go at whatever pace is comfortable for you” Roman closed his eyes. “Couldn't resist me huh.”

“Just shut up and go to sleep..” he buried his face in Romans' shirt.

Roman didn't think he would be able to sleep at all now, but eventually, they both became more comfortable in each other's arms and fell asleep.

Chapter 4: Chipping Away

Summary:

Here comes Janussssss!! Everyone’s favorite sassy snake boy. Andddd more Remus and Logan interactions, for Logan’s room I based it off of the plushies episode and my own headcannons.

Chapter Text

“I saw Virgil go into Romans' room with him last night.” Remus brought up in the middle of their conversation.

“Hm?” Logan looked up from his drink “and?”

“Think they fucked?”

Logan choked on his coffee mid-sip and shot his eyes up at him disgusted. He cleared his throat “Gosh Remus, could you be less vulgar first thing in the morning?”

“What? I'm just saying.”

Logan sighed “Good thing I’m the first one up in the morning..”

Remus laid on top of the counter and yawned “yeah, you freak. Who gets up this early on a weekend? Only you, it’s killing me!”

Logan smiled self righteously “nobody is forcing you to get up at the same time as me, you know.”

“What else am I supposed to do?! Ruining your morning routine that you’re so fond of is fun, might as well get some entertainment out of this even if I can’t win.” He rolled over to his side “speaking of, today is the 5th day and I’ve tried everything!!!”

“You’re just going to have to try harder then.”

Remus pouted and banged his head against the countertop, pretty hard too. Logan wondered if all these stunts he pulls involving his head affect his brain somehow...

“Good morning, Logan!” Patton yawned, walking down the stairs and into the kitchen where the other two were sitting, he got a Poptart out of the cupboard.

Remus sat up and crossed his arms “Hey! Aren’t you going to say good morning to me? Yeesh, talk about favoritism!”

Patton chuckled nervously “uh.. heh, Yeah that was rude, sorry Remus! Guess I’m just still not used to seeing you so often..”

“Ohh but JANUS is okay, I see how it is. Just kidding! Don’t get your glasses in a twist Patton!”

“Um..okay? What was that about Janus?”

Remus rolled off of the counter, making Patton jump at the loud thump when he hit the floor. He looked over the counter “is he alright?”

“Yes, he's fine. He has already done that twice this morning.”

“Well, I'm not sorry! I just can't help falling for you.” Remus cackled sitting back up.

“You shouldn't be falling on my behalf Remus, that's getting you nowhere.” Logan stated unfazed, Patton added that it “was a nice pun though.” Remus faked a gasp and dramatically fell back to the floor, acting as though Logan's words had punched him. Logan smiled, and let out an amused exhale.

“Ha!! I got an exhale!” Remus triumphantly raised a fist.

“That doesn’t count.” Logan quickly added finishing his coffee and rinsing it in the sink. Remus went back to pouting and layed on the floor in protest. Patton ate his Poptart in silence, confused but thankful they weren't fighting. Finally, Roman and Virgil also made their way downstairs, Patton perked up and waved to them. Roman was wearing Virgil’s hoodie.

“Good Morning gentlemen! I- goodness is that the time?” Roman looked at the clock on the stove “I had no idea it was this late!”

“And I had no idea I woke up this early.” Virgil chuckled.

“Nice hoodie Rom-Com! I've been up as long as this moron who gets up the same time as the sun.” Remus piped up from the floor, pointing over the counter at Logan who raised an eyebrow at him.

Logan sighed “Waking up and going to sleep at the same time every day is the best way to improve sleep quality in the long term-” he was interrupted by a loud scoff from Roman.

“EXCUSE ME! I heard that comment about the hoodie!!” A-And it was cold last night so I borrowed it! I don't think it's any of your business! What is he even doing here anyway!”

"Huh, you know, You seem rather defensive Roman. I thought lying was Janus’ thing! Maybe you're just him in disguise!! Wouldn’t that be a hoot for Virgil huh?!”

Virgil made a face “..oookay… um, I'm getting something to eat” He stuck his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants and speed-walked to the fridge.

“Remus, really?” Logan spoke up.

“Whaat?!? I'm just saying those two are the most obvious people in existence! That's all.” Remus grinned at them.

“Wait what's happening? What do you mean by that? Patton finished his Poptart.

“And that is my cue to leave” Virgil left to go back to his room. Roman stood at the stairs awkwardly.

Logan cleared his throat “I ought to be going too.” He got up and left abruptly, sparing Remus a glance when he passed him.

“Is no one going to fill me in on what’s happening?” Patton asked.

“Roman and Virgil are dating, byeeee!” Remus immediately ran out of there leaving Roman to deal with Patton’s squealing and celebratory clapping. Roman would thank him later for moving things along for him. For now though, he needed some breakfast himself.

—--------------

Remus slammed open his door and immediately went to his snack drawer, which was mostly filled with trash from empty bags and old melted snacks long forgotten.
His room could only be described as the back of a dumpster that is on fire. Bed unmade, the walls a gross green color, but at the very least he tried to keep the floor moderately clean, by pushing the junk on the floor into piles. ‘Organized chaos’ he called it. He had decorations on the walls overlapping each other and had messy shelves and a closet overflowing.
He rummaged through the sticky mess of the drawer and pulled out a thing of deodorant. Perfect, it was his favorite flavor too, he will have to buy more of these-

“How’s you’re little playdates with Logan going” Janus was sitting on a chair at Remus’ desk. Completely interrupting Remus’ line of thought.

“AAAAA HOLY SHIT JANUS!!!! I didn't even see you there!!! You could have knocked at least, God! No privacy in this house!!”

“Sorry not sorry, anyway you came back early today, did you lose or something?”

“Nah, I still got three days left.” He opened up his container of deodorant and took a bite.

“Why are you doing this again? You usually don't hang out with the sides, especially Logan. I thought you would, honestly, get bored by now.” Janus leaned forward in the chair “Why focus so much energy on Logan? Have you grown fond of him or something?”

“Oh pfft no! I'm just bored! When this whole thing is over I’ll just be happy I got one over Logan, and probably drop it the next day, ha! Maybe knock out a few more of his teeth, that would be fun!”

“Huh, yes I'm sure Logan will be thrilled when that happens.”

“Well he just usually puts them back in again so…wait was that one of your lie thingies again?” Remus was dumping the crumbs left of his deodorant into his mouth. Janus sighed.

“Yes, anyway if you’re up there again this evening messing around I’ll be joining you I guess. Patton invited me to ‘family movie night’.”

"Really? Why did you decide to go?”

“Well, as much as I would love to say I want to watch a children's movie with a bunch of adult toddlers, I decided to go to stop his nagging, Pattons been harassing me for weeks to do stuff with them so I can become more part of the group I guess?” Janus crossed his arms.

“Hmm… Well have fun!” Remus tossed the empty container behind his shoulder.

Janus got up from his chair “Well, I should be going. I sat for far too long in that chair waiting for you to come back. See you tonight, maybe.”

“Yep bye!” Remus enthusiastically waved Janus off, and picked up the previously discarded deodorant container and threw it in the trash. He was considering going back upstairs and fucking around but he ultimately got distracted watching a movie and looking up weird stuff that would probably get the CIA to watch over his phone.

Sooner or later, the time when Patton would usually finish dinner approached and he decided to join them again. He was going to be up there later anyway so might as well. He was gonna invite himself to movie night wether they liked it or not.

Not before going to harass Logan first though!

He opened the door and saw Logan sitting at his desk typing something on a laptop and writing on flash cards. His room was very clean and organized. A few dorky science posters hanging up, and gray walls. The only pop of color was his blue bedsheets and little glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling that Patton gifted him for Christmas one year. He also had a desk next to his bed with a few empty crofters jars, a Rubix cube and a collection of plushies? They were of himself and the other sides, surprisingly he still had them set up. He didn't notice Remus walking in at all.
He smiled and walked up behind him, and quickly grabbed his shoulders screaming “BOO!”

Logan turned around fast “oh, it's just you Remus. What are you doing in my room.”

“DANG IT LOGAN! Can’t you have a more fun reaction than that!” Remus groaned. “Next time I’ll scream in your ears.”

“What are you doing in my room?” Logan repeated, using the same tone.

“Just decided to see what you’ve been up to! Whatchya writing?” He leaned over Logan's chair and looked into the laptop.

Logan leaned out of his way “Well, right now I'm responding to emails and making a schedule for Thomas to follow for tomorrow, maybe get that dishwasher fixed if he’ll finally take the time to listen to me about it. The flashcards are for updating some of my “slang.” Roman recently made fun of me for not knowing what TTYL meant.”

“Huh, so basically just your average dork stuff?” Remus glanced at Logan.

“I wouldn't call it that but…sure. Do you know if Patton has made dinner yet?”

“I dunno, hey is that the book you want a second one of?” Remus leaned further over Logan and picked up the book on his desk, looking over the cover. Logan leaned as far back as he could in his chair, he was basically on top of him. Remus had no regard for personal space it seemed...

Logan suppressed an eye-roll “Remus could you get off me?”

Remus looked over “Oh sorry, do you like being on top instead” Remus laughed and got off him, an arm still on the chair. Logan just narrowed his eyes at him.

“Alriiiight, I know where I'm not wanted, let's just go downstairs, a little snake told me Patton is having a movie night!”

Logan got up and he and Remus went downstairs, well at least Logan went down the stairs. Remus threw himself down them landing on a different body part each step down. Making a grand landing face down on the living room floor, giving Patton a good scare, again.

“Don't worry I'm good!!” Remus yelled muffled from the floor holding a thumbs up.

Patton sighed, relieved “Um well, Dinners almost done you two! Is Janus coming for the movie, Remus?”

“Yep! I appreciate being included in your gang bang.” Remus stuck a leg out to trip Logan, but Logan avoided it without looking and got some food.

Patton shot his eyes at him “That is disgusting sir! But, I do think we should all be able to participate in family activities, now that Janus is officially becoming our pal!

“Thanks for the thought, anyway where’s the food.” Remus got up and went to the kitchen, piling food onto a plate. Logan was already at the table eating when the other two sides made their way downstairs.

They were now dating, and it still felt a little weird to Virgil, especially having Patton fawn over him and Roman like a proud parent. He kind of felt like Logan already thought they were, and well, obviously Remus did. Roman was still mildly pissed about Remus blabbing about it. At least Remus did it after they ‘officially’ confessed to each other. Roman ranted about his brother whilst apologizing over and over to Virgil. Roman finally wore himself out and guessed it was fine as long as Virgil was okay with it.

Everyone eventually got to the table and ate, Roman giving glares to Remus now and then, Remus found it hilarious. Everyone was talking amongst themselves. All in all, dinner went smoothly for the most part.

Chapter 5: Movie Night!

Summary:

Ohhh shoot, some romantic tension is in the air, finally! And yes they somehow all fit on the couch together. I maybe sprinkled a tiny bit of Logan angst in here too, as a treat.

Chapter Text

“Movie time!” Patton jumped up. Everyone was finished eating by now, and they all made their way to the couch.

“What movie did you pick, Patton?” Virgil questioned.

Patton jumped onto the couch and got out the remote, turning on the TV. “Well… I thought we could all vote like last time! It didn't feel fair for me to just pick.”

“Oh great, we all know how well that goes.” Janus remarked behind them, almost like he appeared out of nowhere. “None of you are touching my hat.”

Patton waved to Janus, but Roman scoffed. “Last time was important to me okay! I won't rig the vote this time.” He put his hands up in fake surrender.

Janus brushed Roman off and walked passed him sitting down next to Patton. Leading to the others to take their respective seats on the couch. Virgil and Roman chose to sit next to each other, and Remus sat next to Janus, so Logan sat in the last spot left, which was between Remus and Virgil, it was probably best he was inbetween them in hindsight. Patton started going through movies.

Every time someone saw a movie that piqued their interest, everyone started talking over each other. Somehow they narrowed it down to a few movies and through a vote of raising hands, they ended up watching Tangled. With the movie finally settled, Patton turned off the lamp and pressed play.

This movie was definitely not Logan's first choice, but he supposed it wasn't too bad, he wasn't particularly into a lot of movies anyway. So he sat back against the fluffy cushion and indulged in the bright colors and animation. He was surprised that this movie won honestly, Roman was unsuprisingly ecstatic. Despite making fun of it the whole time.

“Psst, hey!” Remus whisper-yelled to Logan, he looked over. “You think Roman bribed Virgil to raise his hand for Tangled?” Remus giggled.

Logan humored him “mm probably, considering we could have watched ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ it's likely.” Logan smiled.

“SHH! This is a good part!” Roman interjected before Remus could respond.

“Oh! Sorry your majesty!” Remus leaned forward for emphasis. Roman huffed and layed back, going right back to saying how Flynn should have a concussion after getting hit with that Pan so many times. Remus mumbled ‘hypocrite’ just loud enough to be heard. Logan watched them and sighed exasperatedly.

Roman went to open his mouth but Janus interrupted “I know you two get along just so well! But can you keep it down I can't pay attention to the movie, not that I'm all that into it.”

The movie went on without much more arguments from the two twins, but plenty of commentary from just about everyone, even Logan pointing out the historical inaccuracies and differences from the original Grimms fairytale, which Virgil knew about as well. Roman was singing every song in full volume when they showed up, which he knew by heart.

But then came the ‘boat’ scene.

Repunzel and Flynn were floating on the water and looking up at the lanterns. Roman couldn't help himself and started humming along to the music, and he and Virgil started leaning on each other's shoulders. Janus rolled his eyes, causing Patton to notice and smile at them. But even this scene wasn't all that interesting to Logan. He spent that time lost in thought, zoning out listening to the music.

He then realized Remus had been unusually quiet for awhile… Wait, was he actually into this movie? Logan's question was quickly answered though, when he felt a head fall onto his shoulder.

He froze, and looked over staying perfectly still, and saw Remus.

But he was asleep.

Logan sighed, but his heart still raced, especially when he found out it was Remus. This whole situation was weird, and for some reason, sweaty. He felt warm… this was weird.

He quickly looked away, not knowing what to do, and his mind started racing. Should he move him? But where? And did he even want to move him... No, he wanted to move him this was awkward. But what if it woke him up? He didn't want to be responsible for that or bring attention to this situation. So what to do?! There's no good answer! So!...

He just sat there and hoped no one would notice, especially not notice his blush and his continued glances at Remus. It didn't help that this romantically charged scene was playing in the background. He kept repeating over and over in his head for Remus to ‘please wake up, please wake up…’ And suddenly, Logan's fears came to fruition as he saw Janus do a double take.

Logan stared back, trying to look as calm as he could, but he couldn't hide the fact that he was an anxious wreck in that moment. Janus looked to the others, but none of them seemed to notice.

He chuckled lightly and he decided to leave Logan in his misery, turning back to watch the movie. Logan sighed, knowing Janus would probably blackmail him after this. Didn’t change the fact that he still no idea what to do.

The movie went on and no one noticed them, thankfully, and Logan started to calm down. Trying to talk himself down and focus on the movie. But he couldn't help but stare sometimes… He never got a chance to closely.

He knew very well that they were the same person technically. But Seeing him so relaxed and vulnerable, he looked so different. swore he looked cute sleeping there. He almost wanted to lean on him as well... Seemed nice.

His thoughts were interrupted by one of the other sides getting up. He immediately panicked and looked over to see Roman stand up and stretch.

He felt the weight lift off his shoulder.

Remus yawned and lifted his head just enough away from his shoulder to rub his face. Logan leaned back keeping eye contact. Does he know? Was it on purpose, oh god. He calculated a million ways to explain himself out of this if Remus knew what happened. Then Remus spoke.

“Mmg… Logan? Oops, did I fall asleep..shit. Is the movie over?” Remus mumbled and sat up, looking back at the screen.

Logan's thoughts immediately stopped and he stared. He was so nonchalant about it.

‘I guess that's good, no awkward tension between them now..’ Logan thought.

Yeah, this is a good thing. This is what he wanted. Then why did he feel so disappointed? The rest of the movie played out. Roman just had to go to the bathroom. He came back and Virgil put his arm behind him. Logan glanced at them, must be nice.

By the end of the credits, Patton and Janus had been talking about nothing important through the credits, well mostly Patton was talking, Janus mostly added little things. Virgil went on his phone during the credits and Roman got the remote and turned it off.

“Well guys, I'm going to head up to bed, night!” Patton announced and got up off the couch.

“I agree with Patton, this was utterly exhausting. See you all never.” Janus got up as well and turned on his heel back to his room.

Patton waved by to him and Janus put up a hand, not turning around, somehow knowing Patton would wave to him. Virgil got up “Yeah, I'm gonna watch youtube all night. See you guys.” Roman got up too “Goodnight to all! Thank you for the movie, Patton.” Roman went up after Virgil, and Patton followed shortly after.

Logan mumbled goodnights back, and looked next to him where Remus was, or at least where he should be? Turns out in between the commotion, Remus had just left without a word, and Logan didn't notice.

He was alone.

He usually didn't mind being alone, but tonight being alone felt lonely.

So he decided to just sit there. He thought back to this evenings events. How they made him feel. He figured it was just a weird spur of the moment thing, and brushed the whole thing off completly. It felt weird that Remus just left without making a big deal out of himself, he wondered why. It didnt really matter anyway.

He got up feeling heavy and dragged himself to his room turning off the light, falling onto his bed. He stared at the cealing feeling disconnected, not even bothering to change into pajamas. The silence was deafening. He slowly fell asleep. Alone with only his thoughts to keep him company.

Chapter Text

Remus got up and groaned. His head was killing him. He usually woke up with headaches, probably from his constant restlessness and late night shenanigans. Last night though, with a mix of awkwardness, tiredness, and that he didn't take any aspirin that morning, he just left once he saw others were leaving. The movie was over, and he figured no one would care if he did.

He downed a cup of water and two of the prevoisly mentioned aspirins, put on some pants, a shirt, and walked out of his room. He decided not to wake up at the same time as the psychopath upstairs this morning, so it was late. Even later than his usual wake up time, and of course Janus was already up and on the computer they had downstairs.

Remus yawned “Mornin’ Janus.”

“Yes, ‘morning’ is definitely the right word for it.” Janus looked up from the screen.

“Oh please, it's not that late!” He looked at the clock on his cracked phone screen, it read 1:30 P.M. “Uh…okay so maybe I was wrong, sue me. It's not that bad.”

“Mhm…aren't you supposed to be a bother to Logan in the mornings?”

“Yeah, I've been getting up at the same time as him for a while, but I'm sure he can handle one morning without me.”

“Hm…I don’t know, he might not. What happened yesterday might have changed a few things.” Janus mumbled.

“What?” Remus looked over.

“Oh it's nothing, nothing at all.”

“…eh whatever.” Remus walked over to the fridge.

He drank some milk straight from the carton. Janus gave up on telling him not to do that. Remus figured he could take his time this morning. It's not like he was particularly missed, so he could show up whenever he wanted. He wasn’t sad about that though, quite the opposite really. Even though sometimes he wondered what it would be like.

He finally made his way upstairs where the other sides resided, and looked around. Virgil was doing the abandoned dishes from last night and listening to music, he could hear Roman upstairs singing, and Patton was cooking some kind of dessert. Logan was no where to be seen. He figured he was upstairs so he went up to his room and knocked on the door.

Standing there he awaited some sort of answer…nothing. So he invited himself in. He wasn’t really surprised he didn’t get an immediate answer, he sometimes zoned out when reading or whatever he does in his free time. He didn’t even know why he decided to knock this time.

“Guess who!!” Remus announced himself as he entered. Logan was sitting on his bed reading a book. He didnt look up, he seemed to not notice Remus was there again. Remus walked over and pushed Logan's book down away from his face and Logan looked up surprised.

“Heyyyy sorry I'm later than usual! Traffic was terrible!” Remus grinned. Logan looked at him, then brought the book back up to his face. “Hi, Remus..”

Remus paused and looked at the book, reading the cover, it looked like some sort of mystery book from what he could tell “Whatcha readin’?”

“The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” he didn’t look up from his book. Remus expected him to go into more detail about what the book was about, but he didn’t. After a minute of waiting, he decided to sit next to him and started poking at the book. Logan pretended to not notice.

“Hey! Are you ignoring me?” Remus sterted pulling at his sleeve. He only frowned in response. “Why are you acting so weird?” Logan did nothing.

Remus stopped and stared at his face “Stop ignoring me! What is up with you!” He grabbed Logans shirt and broght him closer to him. “Want me to knock out a few more of your teeth?” Remus sneered.

“Let go of me.” Logan spoke, finally looking directly at Remus. Loudly and clearly enough to shock him. He pulled himself out of Remus’ grip, he kept his composure but was clearly agitated.

Logan sighed, and set his book on his desk. “Can you just…leave me alone for today.. Please, I'm not in the mood.” His eye contact was faltering. Remus’ glare softened and his sneer turned into confusion.

“What? Why? Pfft, like you guys not wanting me around ever stopped me. Did I finally become too much for even Logic to handle?” Remus half-smiled.

“Remus, I'm serious. Leave me alone.” Logan looked as though the energy had been drained from him. Remus laughed, but quited down after Logan leaned back against the wall and pinched the bridge of his nose. Letting out another long sigh.

They sat in silence for a while, and Remus looked around uncomfortably. “...Logan?”

“I asked you to leave, Remus” Logan sat, his voice was shaky.

Remus stared at him. He scooted over closer to him and started picking at his hands.

He inhaled “Well… doing what others tell me to isn't really my style. Neither is you being all upset, it's no fun this way, heh… I don't know shit about this stuff. Patton would probably be the person to go to, or maybe even Virgil, Roman is eh but he’d even be better than me. But if you're gonna be a cry baby, for once in your life, I’ll sit here and pretend I’m listening.” He smiled small, and looked at Logan anxiously.

Logan slowly looked over. He smiled. “I…well…this sure is a surprise coming from you. It’s okay though, gross feelings aren’t my department either. I think it would just bore you though. I guess I’ve just felt ignored recently. Nobody takes what I’m saying seriously anymore…you know that already though, don’t you. I guess I’m just fully admitting it now then. It shouldn’t be getting me down so much, but recently it’s.…This is pointless, I apologize.” He pushed his glasses up and cleared his throat.
“I'm sorry I overreacted earlier, that was immature of me.”

“You, immature? Please, immature is my thing! Besides the last time you did this you blew up in my face, it was hilarious. That being said though, you don’t have to stop talking about it. Sure sure, it’s funny to a point, but not when you're all mopey, and I’m certainly not somebody who’s opinion should matter to you. I personally think you should tell this to the other sides though, and the big man upstairs, if you ever want to fix this problem before it gets worse. Unless you want to cause a huge fuss and tear apart the other sides limb by limb.” Remus responded.

“Well uh…thanks I guess, Remus. Maybe you’re right. Maybe you were right last time too….when I blew up at you…but i'm glad I accepted this is a problem. I don’t want to talk about it anymore….” Logan looked down, he looked just as deflated as before.

Remus thought for a moment “...Maybe laughing would cheer you up, hm??”

“…Remus… really? I don't feel in the mood to humor your game.”

Remus got up from the couch “No but think about it! Not only do I have one day left, this could actually help! Hold on!”

He got out his phone and looked at the notes he wrote down and started going through it. He had thought of every little thing that could work and wrote it down. He tried everything from slapstick to deadpan, and Logan looked just as tired and annoyed as he was before. It felt as though an hour had passed in the amount of time Remus had spent on this.

“Come on!! I've shown you memes, youtube videos, and you haven't laughed at any of my previous stuff, what in god's name makes you laugh!!” He fell back onto the bed exasperated, and pulled out his phone again to see if he missed anything. What was it that he wasn’t getting?..

“Remus, come on. Can you just give this up? I won’t laugh at what you show me even if it is a little funny, especially in the state of mind I'm currently in. Why don't we just drop the whole thing-”

“WAIT! I've got it!! This will work for sure!! It has too!”” Remus scrolled through his phone anxiously and did a drum roll with his hands.

Then shoved the phone into Logan’s face, and his eyes darted across the screen.

He had shown him what could only be described as a deep fried cat meme, with the ‘okay’ emoji for feet, and wobbly text saying ‘WHEN YOU WALKING.’

Logan paused and looked at the screen with a blank expression for several minutes, incredibly confused.

“What…am I looking at?”

Remus chuckled to himself “Heh..wait you don't find this funny?”

“No, of course not. Why on Earth would I find this funny? There is no punchline, did you honestly think this would be the thing that makes me laugh?”

“Um….well yeah” Remus said with full honesty.

Logan stared at him in awe.

He exhaled out of his nose, and put his hand on his face.

And started trying to hold back a chuckle.

His face then split into a wide grin and he started laughing and shaking his head, he went into a fit of giggling and sat up covering his mouth with his hands, then finally looked at Remus again “THAT was the most RIDICULOUS thing!! I can't believe you seriously thought that would work!!” He was now fully in a fit of laughter. Remus stared for a bit, then started to smile and laugh with him. They both ended up laughing with each other for several minutes.

Logan took in a deep breath and cleared his throat, still smiling. Finally calming down.

Remus was holding his stomach, when he calmed down he put a fist triumphantly in the air “YES! I WON!”

Logan only put out a hand toward Remus, and with the other he took out a flashcard and looked at it “Um…GG?”

Remus gave him a high five instead of shaking his hand “Time to rub it in everyone's faces!!”
