Chapter 1: Sans POV: Soul Sharing
Chapter Text
As Sans explained how soul sharing worked, he felt your excitement grow and his own shrink away.
“jus’ be nice please…?”
It had been a very long time since he’d tried to be this open with someone. It was nerve-wracking at best, and completely terrifying at worse, but for you, he was willing to try. You deserved at least that much since he’d tricked you into it those other times.
He took a breath to try and calm his nerves. It didn’t help.
He pushed the sight of you admiring his soul (his very culmination) away and tried to focus on your own precious little soul.
Just looking at it helped with his unease.
You really were perfect.
You’d said the same thing to him, but you were much better.
He heard you shift slightly and resisted the urge to look back at your expression.
Focus on your own questions.
He only had two, so he should go ahead and just start.
“you… really are okay being with me forever?”
His anxiety bubbled up again. Hearing the answer was almost as scary as knowing what you were asking him . But, your soul wasn’t hesitant in its reply.
*Will love you forever.
Sans went red.
“you’re sure?!”
*Wants you to know how much they care. Loves you.
Sans took a sneak glance up. Was it really true? Of course it was. Souls didn’t lie, but he just couldn’t believe it. But there you were, holding his soul closely, face flushed and wearing a stupid but endearing smile. Like a giddy child on gyftmas.
Sans looked but to your soul.
*Loooooooooves you!
He almost snorted out a laugh. He hadn’t asked, but apparently you wanted to reassure him anyways.
He figured you’d probably be finished soon, so he’d better ask his other question.
It had been weird. Your sudden turn around from complete fear after dying to a sudden determination towards freeing the Monsters, it wasn’t normal. And the ‘reset’ power was also transferred to you with out explanation.
Sans focused again and asked.
“why are you so desperate to free the monsters?”
*…I want you everyone to be happy.
Sans furrowed his brow.
Did it just change halfway through?
“why are you trying to free the monsters?” he tried again.
*I need to make everyone happy.
Sans looked at your soul closer. Why was it acting like this?
He looked at you again instead, hoping to find the answer somewhere.
You looked up and met his gaze.
“So… what now?”
Sans stared for a moment longer. You had wished for happiness, so maybe your soul was just expressing if differently than a Monster’s would? It had been a while since he’d done this.
He shook the thought away and guided your soul back.
This session was more for you anyways.
“ask everything?”
You confirmed it and he walked you through the next part.
He was a little surprised the hear you reassure him rather than being unsure about anything. But it was sweet and very much like you.
Sans decided only one thing could wrap up the event perfectly.
“…can i kiss you?”
You nodded and he kissed you softly, sweetly, wanting you to feel just what you were worth to him. You were everything he could ask for.
“i love you too.”
Chapter 2: Papyrus POV¦ The Human
Summary:
What Papyrus thought when he first met the reader.
Chapter Text
Papyrus looked between his brother and the Human before decidedly settling on the latter.
They were skinny and weak looking, and their fear was blatant, but they wore the symbol of the royal family. The Deltarune. Not just any Human would be wearing that. Not to mention, his brother was rambling on about having captured them and making them clean his room, clearly trying to jape him. But Papyrus was no fool. This Human was special somehow and he was going to find out why.
HA!”
Sans and the Human flinched as he barked out a laugh.
“EXCELLENT WORK BROTHER. I SUPPOSE EVEN YOU COULD CAPTURE SUCH A WEAK LOOKING HUMAN. NO MATTER. I WILL CHALLENGE THEM PROPERLY AFTER THEY’VE REGAINED THEIR STRENGTH.”
He needed to create an environment to trick the Human, observe them, and keep them contained in a false sense of security. Luckily, his brother had actually provided a decent excuse. One that would ultimately either benefit Papyrus or at least provide a proper situation to gather information.
“FIRST! LASAGNA! FOR A TASK AS ARDUOUS AS THIS, THE HUMAN MUST HAVE PROPER NUTRIENTS! THEN,” he squinted sharply and jabbed his gloved finger in the Human’s direction, “YOU WILL NOT LEAVE THIS ROOM TILL IT MEETS MY STANDARDS. I ASSURE YOU; THEY ARE VERY HIGH. ONLY AFTER ALL THIS WILL I SEE YOU AS A WORTHY OPPONENT AND GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SWITCH YOUR CAPTURE-DOM FROM MY WEAK LAZY FILTH OF A BROTHER TO MY TREACHEROUS AND GREAT SELF!”
In which he meant that he would collect their soul and send it to King Asgor. But for now, the Human had to feel safe.
Of course, if he was going to be hosting, even if only as a ploy, he would be hosting properly. He was a skeleton of standards after all.
So, he had no qualms whipping out the big guns tonight.
His oaken aged noodles, fresh made sauce, and even some meat and cheese products all for his famously desired ‘Silken Lasagna’.
He huffed in satisfaction as he retrieved it from the oven. This ought to put the Human in their place. He supposed praise from a Human would add even more credit to his dish. Maybe the word would spread enough that it would even be served at MTT Resort!
When his brother and the Human came down to eat, Papyrus was a little more anxious than he’d like to admit. They kept glancing back to Sans and ignoring the special lasagna in front of them!
“OH GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!!!!” he wanted to shout, but instead simply asked, “WELL HUMAN? AREN’T YOU GOING TO EAT?”
They flinched under his tone, but quickly moved to take a bite.
Papyrus watched closely as they chewed the bite, face slowly becoming one of astonished glee.
“It’s so good…!” They practically moaned and shoved another fork-full into their mouth.
Papyrus looked at you smugly, finally moving to start on his own plate. It was to be expected, but to see the Human reduced to tears was feeding his ego in ways far beyond his hope.
“OF CORSE HUMAN. BE GRATEFUL THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GRACED WITH MY MANY YEARS EXPERIENCE AND INGENIOUS RECIPE. YOU ARE FREE TO SHOWER ME WITH THE APPROPRIATE PRAISE.”
He noted that they literally scraped the plate clean, savoring every last bite.
“This is amazing. It’s literally the best lasagna I’ve had in my life! How did you learn to cook like this?” they gushed.
Papyrus swelled with every word you told him. His shard teeth pulling up into a very pleased smile. He could see Sans grinning happily as you showered praise down.
“I TAUGHT MYSELF, OBVIOUSLY. NO ONE ELSE WOULD EVEN BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF TALENT SUCH A DISH REQUIRES!”
“Seriously, I can’t believe it. This is absolutely delicious! I wish I could cook like this.”
A bit of red glow started to form on Paps cheek bones and he cleared his nonexistent throat. You were still going? When would you stop? Was this flattery actually a Human trick to lower his guard?
“I can’t believe Red gets to eat this kind of food every day.”
“E-ENOUGH HUMAN…” He tried his best to hide glow coming off him. It was unseemly to get so flustered over a Human’s words.
“You got to teach me sometime. With this level of skill, I won’t have any trouble finding a mate.”
“I-I GET IT ALREADY!! PLEASE STOP!!!”
He grabbed your plate and stacked it with his before you could apply anymore trickery. But he could not be out maneuvered by such a wimpy little Human.
“CLEARLY MY TRAP WAS TOO EFFECTIVE. YOU HAVE TOO MUCH ENERGY… WHICH IS THE PERFECT AMOUNT NEEDED TO CLEAN SANS’S ROOM!!! NYEHEH!! JAPED AGAIN BY MY CLEVERNESS!!”
So without much more conversation, he sent the Human and Sans to their task. He thought over your interaction while he washed the dishes and settled down for bed.
You were quite a strange Human, that was for sure.
The following morning revealed something else to Papyrus.
Sans, his own brother, wanted this Human as his mate.
Astounding, really.
But the truth was right there in front of him.
Your scent was clinging to Sans and his to you. And the flush of his heat on his bones was painfully obvious.
Stars.
What now?
He’d expected breakfast to be awkward but was pleasantly surprised when you engaged him in conversation about spider dust. You were unusually educated for a Human. You had great taste on food and the ability to clean Sans room. Something he hadn’t actually expected to happen.
Needless to say, Papyrus found himself growing too fond of you too quickly. A dangerous thing considering the consequences and his job title. He suspected Sans’s sudden motivation to work on his section evaluation project may have also been influenced by the strange Human. They seemed to have known each other for longer than they let on. The nickname the Human slipped, Sans’s strange mood as of recent, and his willingness to wake up early in the mornings.
It was traitorous. A scandal. A move that would put them both at risk of death!
But seeing his brother watch you with that look, seeing how he let you clean his room, well, Papyrus didn’t know if he’d ever seen his brother so… so close to looking alive.
Papyrus made his decision. The Human had to stay.
Chapter 3: The Sacrifice
Chapter Text
...
“Do you ever wonder what happens to kids to who aren’t wanted?
…
They go on a long walk, up the mountain, to a beautiful place…
Then, when they’re busy playing, they’re left all alone…
The sky will slowly grow dark as the sun goes down.
The mountain grows colder and colder… And all of the sudden, you realize that you don’t know the way home. Because there is no home. No one wants you.
…
So you run, and run, and run, trying to find a path in the darkness…
…
Finally, you find one.
You feel the relief as you follow the path… The path taking you deeper and deeper into the forest.
The path starts to get higher and steeper, and you realize you must be following it the wrong way…
But it’s so dark, so cold, that when you catch a glimpse of a cave off the path… you decide to go and take a rest… just for a bit…
…
…
…
Then you fall…
Down, and down, and down…
Till the Demons come out of the darkness and rip you to shreds, devouring your soul so that you’ll never, ever be free or loved by anyone again.”
“… Wow, that is a scary story Chara.”
“Haha… yeah. Don’t tell it to your mom and dad. I don’t think they’d like it much.”
“Okay. I won’t. Promise!”
“…”
“Everything okay Chara?”
“...Yeah… ...Want to hear another story?”
“Sure! What is it about?”
“This one is… about this big hero guy who died to make a lot of people happy.”
“What? He dies at the end?”
“...Yeah. But it’s okay. He comes back afterwards.”
“That’s funny. How can you die but come back?”
“I don’t know. But it would be cool if you could right? To be the only one that suffers to save everyone else’s souls. And then, you come back from dead and free everyone.”
“Hm… I guess that would be cool. I don’t know how I feel about suffering though. That sounds hard.”
“…Yeah. I’d do it though.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow, you’re so cool Chara. I wish I was as strong as you…”
“Haha, you’d have to stop being such a cry baby first.”
“Am not!”
“Are too.”
…
“Oh, the battery is about to run out...”
