Summary
The war was over. It took about a year for the villages to start rebuilding and reach some level of recovery. The need for a symbolic reminder of how devastating a war could be has arisen. The Five Great Villages decided an annual ritual should be created. The participants in the first one should hide their real faces behind faceless masks to conceal their identities from all the other people. The initial idea of hiding identities among each other worked to some extent but mostly didn’t.
While travelling together, the shinobi get closer to each other, becoming more trusting, and start seeing things in themselves and in others that they wouldn't notice before. The slow revelation of their true selves is just like taking off their masks. The bonds they form would tie them for a lifetime.
Smouldering feelings will raise their flames high and daring, finally setting the fire they were waiting for to ignite. New flames will appear, still weak and unsure — some will survive, some will be carried back home...
