Maybe I Hate You

Summary:

"Anyway, because of my big heart and bad friends, you have been officially appointed as my personal assistant. Congratulations, Choi Beomgyu. I promise to make your life hell."

"The feeling's mutual Mr Choi Yeonjun."

Yeonjun was truly drop-dead gorgeous. Like a prince right out of a fairytale.

But Beomgyu hated everything about him.

Or, Yeonjun is a CEO with an asshole personality (not really) and Beomgyu can't control his mouth. They hate each other till they don't

*****ON TEMPORARY HIATUS**** (Until my writer's block wears off)

Notes:

Ummm.... hi?

This is Beomjun from me

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: I can't stand you

Chapter Text

"Yah! What the hell is this!," Beomgyu screamed as he entered their common living room, maniacally waving a piece of paper - his acceptance letter- to be precise.

Taehyun, on the other hand, didn't even react to his outburst, opting to calmly continue with his game. Beomgyu's tantrums were now a regular in their routine to the point where he had learnt to tune them out. Unfortunately, his hyung didn't seem to catch on. He was quite dumb like that sometimes. And very, very predictable. Taehyun could count on one finger, the number of times Beomgyu had done something smart.

In fact that one time was when he had actually listened to Soobin and not stuffed the mint chocolate ice cream down the throat of the ice cream vendor.

This time though, Taehyun predicts, he would do something childish (when is he not?) - maybe shove the letter in his face- like he couldn't so obviously see it.

And right on cue, Beomgyu walked up to him, snatching away his controller and actually shoving the letter in his face.

See, so predictable.

Sometimes he felt like the hyung.

#SaveTaehyun

Taehyun sighed, resigning himself to his fate of strangling Beomgyu of listening to his hyung, even after he ruined his game (see he was not as horrible as you think,  just forget about his plots of assassinating Beomgyu on a daily).

"Yah! how dare you- without my permission by the way- sign up and send my resume to that horrid company! And as a personal assistant of the CEO! In which alternate universe do you think I can ever listen to a rancid old man rant out orders?  Have you lost your mind? I can't work there! " Beomgyu yelled.

Taehyun pulled off his headphones and lightly set them on the table, praying to every God in existence to give him the strength and patience to deal with this overgrown child.

" Hyung, first things first, you were the one who desperately wanted to enter that " horrid " company."  Beomgyu's unamused expression was answer enough.

"You said and I quote-

Taehyun-ah, have you seen CHOI YEONJUN? He is like so fine.

How the hell did you manage to say a person's name in caps?

Cause he is SO FINE. He is like the most beautiful being to have ever walked this Earth and I can't believe I get to breathe the same air as him.

He is also like the CEO of this multi-billion dollar tech company - Choi Works or something. He is smart, hot, and rich. And he is only 23! How the hell can a person be so perfect?

Taehyun chose to completely ignore his rant and continued his talk about more profitable things like Beomgyu's job which was currently..... nothing.

There is a spot open though - PA I think. You have the qualifications. Why don't you have a go?

Beomgyu, however looked at him with the most horrified expression ever.

Kang Taehyun are you fucking insane?! Beomgyu swore with his legal full name. " I can't deal with the fact that we walk on the same Earth and you want me to walk next to him. I'll die of too much pretty.

No, you won't dumbass. You're being dramatic but when are you not. Besides, isn't a job way overdue? You got your degree 3 years ago. The job pays really well too for just a PA that is.

Shut up. I hate you and your logical thinking. I can't physically work with CHOI YEONJUN. He is too much for poor old me.

Again how do you speak in caps? And you're younger than him by the way.

He was completely ignored ( like he should be in Beomgyu's opinion. Who likes logic anyway? Only Kang Taehyun honestly.)

"Okay shut up Taehyun- ah, shut up already.  And could you not memorize every conversation we've ever had? It's goddamn embarrassing. I admit that I might have said that but that was when I was drunk, stupid drunk actually. You cannot take that as consent! That's a crime!"

"Is that so? Then what about all the times you stole my wallet while I was still sober so that you buy a "juice" a.k.a Choi Yeonjun magazines? Is that not a crime?"

At that Beomgyu had a choking fit, cheeks turning light pink in embarrassment at being caught red-handed.

"You knew about that?! Why didn't you tell me?"

"Do not divert the topic hyung. You and I both know that you are obsessed, in every meaning of the word. And you get a job as a bonus so why not give it a shot?"

Beomgyu hated how Taehyun was right all the time.

"By the way, how did I even get accepted? I don't think my resume was any different from the other entries. They didn't even call me for an interview."

He received no answer.

So now, here Beomgyu was, standing in front of the enormous building that belonged to none other than CHOI WORKS.

He still has no idea why he agreed to this.

He hates his life. And Taehyun, Especially him.

And Soobin. For no reason in particular. Maybe for stealing his tteokbokki this morning.

He sighed for the millionth time today as he walked into the building, just praying to God, hoping that Choi Yeonjun was as nice in real life as he was in his interviews (Yes, he has watched all of them and yes he has downloaded and saved all of them. But that's a secret he's willing to take to the grave.)

Unfortunately, there is no God after all.

The first thing Beomgyu notices as he enters the front office is the people. Many, many people. Way too many for his liking. He beelined for the front desk, unwilling to speak to any of them ( He was not a social butterfly ok, he has like 2 friends.)

5 apologies later, he finally reached the front desk

Why is that you ask?

Very good question indeed. Only if Beomgyu knew the answer.

(Transl: He is a goddamn klutz. How do you even crash into 5 people in 2 feet of space? )

Fortunately, the receptionist ignored his antics and simply guided him to Yeonjun's Office - Floor 56, Room 12.

This was it.

Beomgyu was finally meeting the Choi Yeonjun.

Now Beomgyu was no designer but this place was beautiful, to put it mildly. The interior design was chef's kiss and the decor was on point. Floors laid with Persian mats and a golden chandelier hanging from the ceiling that looked stretched to the sky was not what Beomgyu had expected from a company like Yeonjun's. But what can he say, he doesn't own a multi-billion dollar company.

It was not that hard to spot Yeonjun's office even in such a massive space. I mean, in the midst of a gorgeous, elegant, noble-like room an ugly black door in the far corner is bound to catch your eye.
Who in their right mind would put a black door in a golden-white room? Psychos and Choi Yeonjun apparently.

Beomgyu walked up to the ugly ass fuck door, knocking politely, waiting for permission to enter.

"Come in."

Beomgyu willed his heart back down his throat. Now was not the time for his nerves to act up.

Beomgyu shut the door behind him slowly, afraid to make any unwanted noise. To his surprise, there was no one in the room.

"Ah, excuse me I spilt some coffee on my shirt, so I'm just getting changed. Could you give me a moment?" Yeonjun spoke from God knows where.

"T-That's alright. Take your time...sir." He cursed himself for stammering. However, the distant chuckle had to mean something good right?

Only then did Beomgyu register what he had just heard.

Yeonjun was changing in the next room.

Choi Yeonjun was changing in the next room.

He might actually self-combust.

Thank God for Taehyun's self-control lessons.

Beomgyu took to waiting on the sofa conveniently placed on the side. He pointedly decided to ignore the suspicious purple stains on the pearl-white couch.

When Yeonjun finally decided to grace Beomgyu with his presence which was, mind you, a whole 27 minutes later. Beomgyu was both frustrated and grateful for the extra time.

To say Beomgyu was stunned would be a gross understatement.

The magazines never lied, not once.

Yeonjun was truly drop-dead gorgeous. Like a prince right out of a fairytale.

Beomgyu had to force his heart to work.

It had to be illegal to look this pretty. Yeonjun was a crime, a beautiful crime.

"I'm sorry to make you wait this long. The stain took too much time to wash off, I had to take a quick shower." Yeonjun's voice cut in, bringing Beomgyu back from his daydream.

Yeonjun had taken a shower in the next room.

Yeonjun had been naked a few minutes ago, right next to him.

He was definitely trying to kill Beomgyu.

"N-not at all sir. I had nothing to do anyway." Beomgyu resigned himself to the fate of a 'stammerer'. At least Yeonjun found him amusing.

"Well, I assume that you've already been briefed about the job requirements."

Maybe Beomgyu would have answered if he could goddamn take his eyes off Yeonjun's arms. Damn, he was built. Could probably pick and toss Beomgyu like a toy. He decided to save that information for later ( For scientific purposes only. Get your mind out of the gutter.)

"Are you listening Beomgyu? I would like my PA to listen to me."

Now, this was awkward.

"I-I'm sorry sir. I was just overwhelmed by everything (not a complete lie)."

Yeonjun smiled. (Beomgyu felt his brain melt in real-time)

" I understand that it is a new environment so I would like your utmost attention to make sure you adjust here. I'm just here to help."

And I'm here to serve you.

Get a grip Beomgyu dammit.

"Thank you. I really appreciate it. Um, I don't know if I'm allowed to but can I ask why I was accepted without an interview? That seemed kinda we-"

Beomgyu was unexpectedly interrupted by the door slamming wide open revealing an angel. No, literally he was angelic. (What was with the people here? Were they all so fucking pretty? Because Beomgyu might have to change jobs. His heart was too weak to handle this.)

However, Yeonjun was less than amused.

"How many times do I have to tell you to knock on the door, Kai? Are you 12?" Yeonjun scolded sternly, but his tone said otherwise light and teasing.

'Kai' on the other hand, looked pissed (as pissed as a person with a cherubic baby face can look).

"Hyung did you fire your PA again? How many times has it been? Why can you never be patient? They are people! Would you ever consider that!"

Well, Beomgyu felt completely out of place.

Yeonjun sighed.

"Kai, this is not the place nor the time to discuss this. Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?"

At that Kai turned to face Beomgyu, finally acknowledging his presence. Not that it changed anything seeing as he went right back to screaming at Yeonjun.

"She did nothing!"

"She brought in the wrong papers. They were important." Yeonjung whispered.

"That's it?! That does not give you the right to pour water on her and throw her out in front of everyone! Do you have any idea how humiliating that is? I can't believe this..."

Neither could Beomgyu. Nor could he believe what he said after.

"Look I don't know what happened but that was uncalled for Yeonjun...sir. No matter how important those papers were you cannot treat a person like that. Have you ever heard of empathy?" Beomgyu yelled.

He has no idea where this confidence came from.

Maybe he shouldn't have said that but he is known for anything but being reasonable. He is the literal definition of impulsive.

Apparently, the other two thought the same.

"What did you just say?" Yeonjun asked incredulously as if he had never had anyone talk back to him. Beomgyu felt that was true for some weird reason.

Beomgyu decided to let the adrenaline speak for him.

Pro tip (from Taehyun): Don't do that.

"I asked why you were being such a stubborn idiot? Awh, were your feelings hurt? So were that poor girl's. I don't think that she deserved that either. You could've just fired her normally, no need to make a show of it."

He could feel Yeonjun bubble with anger in real-time. It was exhilarating, to say the least. To test his limits. To see how far he could push Yeonjun (not Beomgyu's brightest idea, he admits.).

But Beomgyu was genuinely pissed. Yeonjun had no right to treat someone like that no matter how famous or successful he is.

"You have no idea what happened. No context. You have no right to lecture me about what to do or what not . I can't believe I thought you were sweet and nice at first" Now that hurt. Beomgyu was sweet and nice.

"How funny, I thought the exact same up until now. Even admired you a little (a lot). Goes to show that what they show on the internet isn't always true."

Yeonun's nose flared up in anger.

Cute.

Shut up Beomgyu.

" Well Beomgyu, you are also quite different from what I thought you were. Maybe I should fire you too, the same way perhaps since you seem to like 'empathy'."

Beomgyu doubted his ears. How could a person be willing to treat people like that twice? He can't believe that this was the same Yeonjun who spoke to him so sweetly just a few minutes ago.

"I would like to-" Beomgyu started but was interrupted again by Kai (Did he like cutting Beomgyu off?)

"NO, YOU CAN'T HYUNG!"

Both Yeonjun and Beomgyu simultaneously backed off.

Huh. Who knew a person as sweet as Kai could raise his voice like that?

You learn something new every day.

"You can't hyung. You promised Taehyun you would hire him."

What.

"I know but he is just so insufferable. I can't deal with a brat like him, Kai." Yeonjun sighed, seeing Kai pout.

"I know you love Taehyun, I do too but this guy," Yeonjun glares at Beomgyu accusingly," is not making it easy."

Beomgyu couldn't even respond.

His brain couldn't comprehend what the fuck was going on.

Taehyun knew Yeonjun. And Kai!! (There was something about 'love' too but he didn't have the brain power to break that down now)

(But at least now he knew why he got in so easily.)

Apparently, his best friend was lovey-dovey with his new 'boss' ( a.k.a dickface Yeonjun)'s friend.

He felt faint.

He heard Yeonjun grumble from the side, "Ugh, Do I have to?" before calling out to him,

"Well, after a great negotiation (hear: one-sided decision) I have decided to spare you the humiliation and actually give you this job! Aren't I so kind? It is definitely not because of Taehyun. Ignore Kai shouting in the background." Yeonjun started.

Provoking your boss on the first day of work was probably not the best plan as Taehyun so kindly decided to explain.

(Beomgyu still managed to squeeze out juicy details from him though. And a triple chocolate cone ice cream.)

So, apparently, Taehyun and Kai were dating

His best friend and the (best?) friend of his nemesis were in love

Soobin also was of absolutely no help.

You shouldn't have spoken to him like that Beomgyu. He is your superior. Besides Yeonjun is a sweetheart.

Sweetheart, my ass.

Oh, and another revelation: Soobin also knew Yeonjun.

Beomgyu needed new friends.

Beomgyu was fully prepared for an attack from any direction as he walked the winding halls of the building.

It had been a week since Yeonjun's threat but the man had still made no move. It was getting kinda suspicious at this point. Yeonjun seemed to really hate him then (he could relate on another level honestly).

Even if Yeonjun had done nothing, he had given Beomgyu anxiety the entire week whenever he spoke or did anything in general. And it was getting pissing off. The hold the man had over him was annoying, to say the least.

No, it was not the constant heart failure because Yeonjun decided to wear tight-ass shirts that defined his chest and abs. We're not going to talk about that. We're not.

(Why was the man so fit anyway? It was not fair. Beomgyu wanted abs too.)

"Look who finally showed up. It's really nice to have you here, Choi Beomgyu. What service do I owe you, seeing as you have decided to show up 15 minutes late." Yeonjun spoke from behind.

Beomgyu had to physically resist the urge to roll his eyes at the sass. Well, he could return the favour.

"Very funny sir. It's no wonder you're not a comedian. Besides, I was late picking up the right papers this time from the library. Maybe you could've considered the fact that you are a lazy ass so I had to pick them up for you?" Hearing Yeonjun growl should not be making his stomach drop like that.

"God, you piss me off. You really have no sense, do you? I pity your mother."

"You needn't bother with that sir. My mother would be quite happy I think seeing that I've grown up enough to babysit a 23-year-old." Yeonjun was just about to snap back when another voice cut in.

"Do you two ever stop? The board is waiting for you Yeonjun." Kai interrupted. He often wondered how his life came to this. Dealing with two petty big babies was not how he wanted to start his day.

Kai was probably the only one Beomgyu could stand these days. Yeonjun was a definite no. Taehyun and Soobin were dangerously on the edge.

"It's all Beomgyu's fault. He came in late. I needed the documents for my presentation."

"Well if you-"

"Are you guys 5? What is this blame game? Just get on with it. Everyone's waiting."

An unhappy Kai was not something you wanted to see.

An angry Kai was something you definitely didn't want to see.

The meeting was long, boring and absolutely worthless according to Beomgyu. He couldn't comprehend half the things those slow-talking balding men said. He had no idea how Yeonjun could stand them.

Oh, because he is just as old as them. I mean he's from the 20th century.

Beomgyu walked alone back from the fancy cafeteria (Yeonjun rushed off somewhere, he doesn't care enough to look into it) unable to continue through the day without coffee. He still had to fill in Yeonjun's schedule, write the replies to dozens of emails and organise the files in the warehouse.

God, he hated this job. (Unfortunately, it paid really well. Now he could actually pay his rent and food expenses by himself.)

He sighed for the 500th time that week, contemplating his life choices (and friendships) as he trudged along the hall.

He had no time to react as a small body came barrelling into his leg. He would have fallen on his face if it hadn't been for his incredible core strength (special thanks to the pillar on the side).

After recovering from his initial shock, Beomgyu looked down at the little perpetrator who was now rubbing her tiny head, messing up her dark black locks in the process.

The girl looked up at him, brows furrowed and mouth upturned in a pout as if it had been Beomgyu's fault. Her face felt strangely familiar but he couldn't quite recognise it.

He was about to question the presence of a child here, but she beat him to it.

"You should watch where you're walking mister, you could crash into someone. What if I had been a blind grandma, she would have been hurt then." Beomgyu couldn't find it in himself to be mad at such a cute little thing. He felt the sudden urge to apologise. (He is not this submissive, he promises except in bed.)

"I'm sorry angel. I wasn't watching where I was going. Will you please forgive me?"

That brought a gorgeous smile on the girl's face, teeth and all. Beomgyu wanted to hug her. She was precious.

"Ok mister, I forgive you since you seem to be nice. I just wanted to warn you. I don't want nice people to go to jail." Beomgyu's heart was not made to take this angel.

As much as Beomgyu wanted to keep talking to this mystery child, he couldn't let her just roam alone in this place. She must've lost her parents.

"Could you tell me who you're parents are so I can get you to them? You seem lost" The little girl simply smiled.

"There is no need for that oppa. I'm not-" The girl stopped as a door opened from behind - Yeonjun's door.

"Jisoo-ya, how many times have I told you to not run off alone. You could get lost here." Yeonjun called out.

Beomgyu's brain short-circuited.

"I'm sorry appa. I just wanted to get some cake from the cafeteria."

Appa

Yeonjun was her father.

Her father.

Beomgyu promptly passes out.
