Pastel and Pitch (Pink and Black)

Summary:

Enid Sinclair isn't your typical wolf.

She's something else entirely, and it begins with A, and ends with S.

(Also known as: How Enid becomes an Addams)

Work Text:

Enid Sinclair is not a typical wolf. She knows that, her family knows that, everyone at school knows it.
She took forever to wolf out, she liked pinks and purples and soft things, she didn't fit in with her birth pack.
She fell in love with a murderous goth who is her roommate at school, and has feeling about it that usually consist of "what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck, literally why this specific dumbass goth?" and "oh fuck me, she's so cute, I think I want to kill someone to defend her honour."

However, it comes clear that Enid is more than unusual during the summer holidays. The second week in, she was tired of her family and their demands, so she packed her things and travelled in a daze to Addams Manor.
She didn't even know the way, but the wolf inside her sure did, humming with contentment the closer they got to Wednesday and her family.

The Addams' realise that Enid is not a typical wolf when she appears in their foyer, placing down her bags and babbling anxious apologies for intruding, while the family stared at her.
Enid Sinclair, girly, sweet, chatty werewolf, had made it up their drive way. Alone. With no help from an Addams. Without a single scratch on her.
"How did you get past the mines and the poison darts?" Pugsley asks, annoyed that his traps seemed to have failed. Enid chuckles sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck and pulling a handful of darts with liquid green tips from her pocket.
"Wolf instincts, I just sort of did the hopscotch and trusted my instincts, really." The girl said apologetically, while Gomez was inching towards the phone to call his lawyer.
Debbie had gone about it all wrong, all those years ago. To be an Addams, you just had to survive them, you could simply move in and attend family functions, and they would simply refer to you as 'Cousin Intruder' before challenging you to a fencing match.
Enid Sinclair was going in his will, he thinks she would adore the Addams property in Fiji with pink beaches and gardens full of colourful blooming poisons. Gomez sees how his daughter looks at the blonde, and hopes to call this wolf his daughter-in-law one day.
"And the midnight thorns?" Morticia asks, and Enid blushes further, more apologies spewing from her lips.
"I, ah- I tried to not damage them, Mrs Addams! I'm sorry! I think I killed them all!" Enid winced, showing her claw nails, letting them see the dark wine red and green stains under them.
Morticia sweeps forward, cupping the girl's cheek (she does not enjoy how the girl flinches, and will be following up about it at a other time), before she presses her immaculately painted lips to the girl's brow.
"I think you're going to fit in well here, love. Now, Wednesday tells me you enjoy the sun? How brave of you, we have a bedroom on the East Wing near Wednesday's room that is unfortunately always shining with sunlight. Would you like it?" She asked, and Enid's eyes go wide.
"You're giving me a room?"
"I'm giving you a leg!" Fester shouted, shoving a vaguely humanoid leg into the girl's arms.
Enid didn't flinch, but she did had it back.
"If it's all the same, I prefer Thing. He's a sweetheart and I love practising my manicures on him!" She chirps, giggling as the hand scuttles up her back to sit on her shoulder like a parrot on a pirate.
Gomez turned and began to dial.
This girl was an Addams, if not by blood.

*********

They realised it again when it came time for the New Moon, and Grandmama was in a frenzy. The kitchen was foggy with potion fumes and the table was covered in insects in various stages of life, death and decay.
Enid jumped when Grandmama let out a howl of despair.
"Wolf Blood! I'm out of Wolf Blood!" She cried, and the family began to edge away from the woman, waiting for an explosion.
Enid gasped and ran to her coat that was hung up in the foyer, pulling out a little vial on a chain.
"Here, Grandmama! I managed to draw some of my blood in wolf form in the last full moon, it was going to be a birthday present for Wednesday, but I can do it again at the next moon. You can use this!" She said, smiling and offering the vial filled with red liquid to the woman.
Grandmama grinned, black teeth showing and Enid didn't flinch when a cockroach crawled from her maw.
"Oh, you really are wasted on that pack of yours." Grandmama told her, snatching the vial and tipping the blood in the cauldron. The potion fizzed and spat, and Enid licked a splatter off her lip.
"Spicy!" She coughed, cheeks tinted red, but her smile doesn't waver.
Wednesday looks at her like she hung the moon.

********

The next full moon rises pink, and Enid shifts into her wolf form with ease. It's easier here, and she knows that it's because her wolf feels safe here.
(The Addams' couldn't give a damn if she transforms, they seem to like her as she is, and isn't that a novelty and a punch in the gut?)
It's Pubert who finds her, whining and lonely in her wolf state and far from her pack, against one of the gravestones. He babbles as only toddlers can, and the wolf in Enid rumbles in what might be a purr if she was a cat.
A twig snaps as Pubert reaches for her, and ghoul appears. Enid doesn't think, she just acts on instinct.
Her wolf howls loud, and she tears the ghoul apart. It was reaching for a pup, a baby. A pup that was part of HER family, and she would not let it stand.
Black blood splatters across them both, and Pubert shrieks with laughter as he watches Enid destroy the creature.
Morticia finds them an hour later, Pubert asleep, and Enid carefully curled around him to keep him warm. Her fur was matted with blood, and she was lapping the stuff gently from Pubert's cheek.

Enid comes back to herself holding the youngest Addams, and laughs when he sticks his tongue out at Lunch when they go back to the house.
Enid realises that she has a pack, and it's right here.

**********

It all comes to a climax when Enid's phone rings, two weeks after she sort of ran away, and she puts the call on speaker while she's painting with the paints that Pugsley made for her.
"Enid Selene Sinclair, you will come home this instant! I have put up with your childish hyjinks too long, and I'm sure that despicable family you're staying with is tired of you too." Her mother's voice cuts through the air like a banshee, and Enid flinches so hard at the words that her painting is ruined.
"I like it here, mom. They like me, and you can't-" She's cut off by her mother.
"I don't care. You're coming home and when I get my hands on you, you're going to be sorry." Esther growls, and Enid whimpers like an injured pup.
She hadn't accounted for the fact that Morticia was coming to fetch her for dinner, the woman gliding silently through the corridors of her home, pausing when she heard raised voices.
She hadn't accounted for the fact that Morticia Addams was many things, but a mother was the best of them.
And motherhood on a Frump-borne Addams?
The sun would turn to ice under her wrath.
Morticia storms into the room, pulling Enid to her and allowing the wolf to burrow into her.
"Now, Esther Sinclair, you've got quite a problem." Morticia purred, and anyone with sense would have cut their losses and left the country.
Esther Sinclair did not have sense.
"Oh, you're that Addams woman. This has nothing to do with you, my daughter is mine, and she has inconvenienced us all enough." Esther spat, and Enid began to cry.
All the plants in the garden withered to rot, and the family members looked at each other before dartimg upstairs just in time to see a shadow like thunder fall over Morticia's pale face.
"Enid is a person, not a possession. Nor is she your daughter, as of yesterday. The post won't have arrived yet, but I'll fill you in. Enid Sinclair is now legally my ward, through evidence and testimony of abuse. You have no power over her, you are banned from Nevermore grounds, and you have a restraining order waiting from her. Enid is a wonderful girl, with a wonderful disposition, bright like the moon she turns under, and you will never, ever harm her again." Morticia says, caressing blonde locks with her fingers and smiling at the pleased chuff the girl makes.
"You can't do this!" Esther sounded half-mad, feral with rage.
Morticia wanted to drain her blood try and turn her to wine.
"I have. Come near my children again, and I'll slaughter you and your precious pack." She says, ending the call.
Enid sobs, thanking her over and over, before she grins at Wednesday who is in the doorway with the others.
"Welcome home." Wednesday tells her, and Enid gives her a kiss so bruising it rivals Gomez and Morticia.
"The Addams Curse strikes again! I'll start planning the wedding! Fester, come, we must practise our Mamushka!" Gomez cries, hurtling down the corridor with his brother.

Enid smiles.
She's home.
