Chapter Text

It had been three months since Erin had left Chicago and in that three months Jay was finally in a great place,his job was going great, his brother was spending more time with him and not avoiding him but the most important thing was that he and his boyfriend were finally able to put everything Erin had done in Chicago behind them.

Erin had decided to take the FBI up on their offer and head to New York as she had destroyed her career in Chicago after she threatened to murder a suspect and she didn't see anything wrong with what she had done so Hank told her she was no longer welcome in his unit.

When Jay Halstead joined the intelligence unit of CPD he never thought he would fall for his boss Sergeant Hank Voight but the first day when he met him. Jay fell hard and it turns out Hank had the same feeling for Jay as it had only taken a few weeks for them to get together and for Jay to recover from getting beaten the shit out of him after a suspect escaped.

Hank had asked his friend and second in command Alvin Olinsky to take over the case as he was going to take care of Jay as he had no-one and he was beaten up really badly as the suspect broke 2 ribs, left bruises to the right side off his abdomen and gave him a concoction so Hank said to Jay that he will look after him.

So from that moment on Hank and Jay became a couple and they told the Chief's and said if their relationship affected their work that one of them would transfer out.

When Hank and Jay told the team they were together some of them didn't like that and the two officers saw their true colors from that moment on.

Erin had a lot to say about the relationship as she had set her eyes on Jay the moment he joined the unit as he was very good looking and quite sexy as well and she wanted to see what he was like in bed.

Another person was Antonio Dawson. He never liked Voight and when the man got released from prison the detective wasn't happy at all.

Antonio had made his feelings clear to Jay when he found out about him and Voight and Jay told him to back off or he would be needing a bed in the hospital and after that Antonio did what Jay said but he made sure the Chief's were well aware of what was going on.

Jay and Hank had a meeting with the Chief's a few days ago and were informed of what Antonio had been doing so when they got to the station Hank pulled Antonio in to the office and told him if he has a problem with his relationship with Jay than he comes to him or he keeps his mouth shut and the Chief's are tired of him giving them pointless information when they have no issues with Jay and Hank's relationship so far.

Antonio was suspended in the end as he wasn't listening and the Chief's were getting sick of him and pulled him into a meeting and told him that he will get over his personal feelings for Jay and Hank's relationship or be transferred.

Jay stepped into the house he and Hank sheard and he could hear his boyfriend in the kitchen and he loved it when Hank cooked.

Jay walks into the kitchen and goes up to him and puts his arms around his waist.

"Good evening" Hank says

"Good evening" Jay says

"You ok? You're home late?" Hank asks

"I'm fine I was just thinking that's all" Jay says

"If you want to talk I'm always here for you?" Hank says

"I know and appreciate it," Jay says, giving Hank a kiss on his cheek.

"How's Will doing?" Hank asks

"Will is doing great he and Ethan made it official and everyone knows about them" Jay says

"That's good I'm glad" Hank says

"How about we leave dinner and go straight to dessert?" Jay asks wiggling his eyebrows

"Detective Halstead, are you trying to seduce me?" Hank asks turning the oven off

"Why Sergeant Voight of course I am" Jay says, taking his top off and running up the stairs.

Hank runs after his boyfriend and finds him in the bedroom and pins him on the bed and looks at him and smiles to himself Hank loves this side of Jay and no-one sees it and sometimes he wishes Jay would show this side more but for now he takes what Jay shows him.

The Next morning Jay wakes up and the sun is shining through their bedroom and he looks at his boyfriend and loves the way he looks all naked and Jay is just happy that he fell in love with Hank.

Jay slips on his underwear and goes down stairs to make two cups of coffee and get the paper.

Once Jay has grabbed everything and heads back up to the bedroom and sees Hank resting against the headboard and hands him his coffee and the paper and gets back into bed.

Hank and Jay have done this routine since they got together and it comes very natural to them Hank would read the paper while Jay would reply to messages from Will who texted him during the night and they would text until they both needed to get to work.

Both Jay and Hank leave for work and are on their way when they get a call over the radio.

"5021 this is 5021 Eddie" Burgess voice says

"This 5021 go ahead 5021 Eddie" Voight says

"We have a case where a 15 year old was found in a house on fire at 2612 N. Hoyne Avenue. The victim is being taken to med right this second" Burgess says.

"5021 Eddie me and 5021 George will head to med straight away and will update back at the station" Hank says

"Copy that Sargent" Burgess says.

Hank and Jay head to Med now and try to get a jump on the case they have.

"I hope the child is OK?" Jay wonders out loud

"Me too" Hank says

They hate it when a case involves a child but they know that they have to do their job.

"Have you ever wanted to be a dad again?" Jay asks

"I have? I know Justin is doing great and he is a dad now." Hank says

Jay had always hoped that Hank would want kids and he knows that his boyfriend wishes he could get a second chance at being a father and doing things differently than the first time.

"I know you would be an amazing dad and I can just imagine you picking out the cutest onesies" Jay laughs

"Do you want kids?" Hank asks

"I do I would love to be a dad and I always had this picture in my head that I would be a better dad than my own" Jay says

Hank knew that Jay and Will never had the greatest of childhoods and when Jay first told him about it Hank was angry not only for his boyfriend but for Will as well.

Jay and Hank walk into Med and the first person they see is the charge nurse Maggie Lockwood.

"Hey Maggie we understand that a 15 year old was brought in?" Voight asks

"Hey Voight yeah he is in a bad shape when they brought him in" Maggie informs them both

"Do you know what happened to him yet? Jay asks

"Not yet unfortunately I'm sorry we don't have much information" Maggie says

"Ok can you tell us who his doctor is?" Voight asks

"Yeah Doctor Marcel is the one treating him" Maggie says

"Can you let "Doctor Marcel know that we need to speak to him?" Jay asks

"Will do" Maggie says and walks away.

Jay and Voight only have to wait a few minutes when both officers Kim Burgess and Dante Torres walk in.

"Hey Serg we have something" Torres says

"What did you find?" Voight asks

"First the 15 year old is called Benjamin Barnaby and both mum and dad died in the Fire their names were Tom Barnaby and Joyce Barnaby" Burgess says

"What do we know about the parents?" Jay asks

"Not much at the moment but going from what we have found out at the moment this may involve child abuse" Burgess says

"Ok you all know the drill we make sure we confirm everything and no stone is left unturned. You two head back to the district and get started on this lead" Voight tells them.

"Yes Serg" They Both say and leave.

Hank turns to his boyfriend and takes his hand in his.

"I'm fine" Jay says

"I know you are I'm just letting you know I'm here for you" Hank says

"I love you" Jay says

"I love you too" Hank says and releases his hand from Jay's and goes back into cop mode.

Jay,Hank what are you guys doing?" Ethan asks, walking towards them.

"We got a case" Jay answers his brother's boyfriend.

It's that 15 year old boy isn't it?" Ethan asks

"Yeah unfortunately it is" Hank says

"Will is his secondary doctor who saw what the boy looked like when he came in" Ethan says

"How is he?" Hank asks he generally cares for Will and wants to know if anyone or anything bothered him and it's not because he is dating Will's older brother no it's because Hank knows that Will doesn't really let people help him so Hank makes sure Will knows that he can come to him and whatever is said stays between them.

"He's doing OK and he knows that you guys are here for him but at the moment he just wants to stay busy" Ethan says

"Guys Doctor Marcel is ready for you both" Maggie says to them

"See you both later," Ethan says and walks away.

Both Jay and Hank go and speak to Doctor Marcel and find out how bad this case is going to be.

Chapter Text

While Voight and Jay were talking to Dr Marcel Ethan went to find his boyfriend and see how he was doing as he knows Will struggles with abuse cases.

Ethan found Will in the break room. He was reading a book that he had recently bought and the way his face was reacting he was enjoying it.

Will had recently gotten into a British TV Show called Doctor Who and he had enjoyed it so much that he had gone on amazon and ordered a few books, his favourite Doctor was the 10th one and his favourite Companion was Donna Noble and he made sure to get some book that included them.

Ethan walks in and goes up to his boyfriend and puts his arms around him.

Now normally the former NAVY medic wouldn't show his emotions but since being with Will he has learned to be more open about them.

"Hello to you too Doctor Choi" Will says

"Hello Doctor Halstead" Ethan says

"I'm fine Ethan you don't have to check up on me" Will tells his boyfriend.

Will knows that Ethan is worried about him and he loves that about him but he doesn't need to be constantly checked on.

"I know you are. I was just coming to see what the Doctor and Donna were getting up to" Ethan says.

Will laughs he knows Ethan is using that as a cover story as he doesn't like the program but Will appreciates him asking and honestly he loves him more for not coming straight out with what he wants to ask and give Will time to gather his thoughts.

"Well I could tell you but you wouldn't understand" Will says

Ethan laughs and gives his boyfriend a kiss on the cheek as he is right he wouldn't understand. Ethan saw two episodes and he didn't understand any of it but he is glad Will loves the show.

"Are CPD here yet?" Will asks

"Yeah. Jay and Hank are the ones talking to Marcel now" Ethan answers

"I should go and speak to them" Will says, closing his book and putting it in his little locker.

"If they need to speak to you, they will come and find you or get Maggie to page you" Ethan tells him.

"You're right" Will says

Ethan and Will sit down on the couch and just hold hands and let the comfortable silence wash over them.

"I know you are worried about me" Will says

"I am but I know not to push you" Ethan says

Will had told Ethan about how he grew up and how his dad was abusive towards him and Jay but Jay never knew how bad the abuse got for Will when his older brother left for the army rangers and Will didn't want him to know.

"I just hate it when we get abused kids and I think back to how I grew up and I try not to let my past get to me but I don't know Ethan there is something about this case that makes me want to do more and help that kid" Will says

Ethan knew about how Will grew up when they first started dating Will told him and it broke his heart that Will went through that and he knows that Will hates it when they get cases like this but Will is the strongest person he knows and the most caring.

"I know that you hate it but I also know that you are the only doctor who can connect to these people and I think your past is what helps so you shouldn't let it define you. I have been thinking maybe see if you could train in specialising in dealing with abuse victims what do you think?" Ethan asks

"I never thought about it to be honest but as a doctor we all deal with cases like this so why should I be treated differently" Will says

"I'm not saying you should I'm saying that you can bring more knowledge to help victims when other doctors can't" Ethan says

"I'll think about it" Will says

"That's all I'm asking" Ethan says

Just then the door to the break room opens and Maggie steps in.

"Hey Will, Sergeant Voight needs to speak with you" Maggie says

"Ok Maggie tell him I'll be there in five minutes" Will says

"You got it" Maggie says

Maggie closed the door and walked back to the nurses station and told Voight that Will is going to be with him in five minutes.

Will heads to the nurses station and sees Hank on the phone so he waits until he is finished.

Five minutes later Hank comes up to Will and Will gives him the rundown of the boy's injuries and what he suspects and what kind of treatment he may need but they will need to speak to Doctor Marcel as he is the lead on the case and knows more about it.

While Will is talking to him Hank knows that Will is holding something back and it worries him as he doesn't like to see his boyfriend hurting let alone his boyfriend's brother who he considers family.

"Will everything ok?" Hank asks

"Yeah why do you ask?" Will answers Hank with a question.

"I'm just making sure you're OK. You know you can always talk to me right I do care about you too" Hank says

When Will first found out that Jay and Hank were going out with each other he was worried as he heard the stories about the famous Sergeant Hank Voight of the CPD but once he got to know him he saw that Hank generally cared about his brother and he even cared about Will.

"I know Hank and I appreciate it but at the moment I'm not ready to say anything" Will says

"Ok kid just know I'm here for you" Hank says, giving Will a hug and letting Will feel loved and protected

Jay comes back from talking to Doctor Marcel and sees Will and Hank hugging and he hopes his brother is OK.

"Hi Bro" Jay says

"Hey Jay" Will says

"What did Doctor Marcel say?" Hank asks his detective.

"So first off that boy is lucky to be alive he has second degree burns to his arms and legs, he also had 2 broken ribs but apart from that he is going to be ok" Jay says

While Jay was telling Voight what Doctor Marcel yold him and Will couldn't help but think about what Ethan said to him about specialising in abuse victims he may need to speak to Miss Goodwin about it.

Will is brought out of his thoughts when Voight asks how long the recovery time will be for second degree burns and Will knows the boy has third degree burns not second so why would Marcel tell Jay the boy had second degree burns.

"He has third degree burns?" Will says

"What" Both Voight and Jay say

"The 15 year old boy Ben Barnaby he has third degree burns I don't know why Doctor Marcel said he had second degree" Will says

"Will your sure?" Voight asks

Trust me I'm sure" Will says

"Why would Doctor Marcel get it wrong?" Jay asks

"I don't know but give me a second" Will says and walks over to Maggie and asks her to get someone from the burns unit down to the ED.

Maggie does as Will asks and she tells him to tell her what's going on so he does and even she can tell they are third degrees burns.

The doctor from the burns unit comes down and has a quick look at the 15 years old boy and once they are done they come out and confirm that it is third degree burns and whoever said it was second degree burns really needs glasses.

Maggie comes over and tells them that she called Sharon and told her to come down to the ED.

Chapter Text

Sharon had been called down to the ED and she wondered why Maggie would call her when the senior nurse could sort it out herself as it's not like Maggie hasn't done that in the past.

Sharon walks over to the nurses station and sees that it's not just Maggie expecting her but a few other people.

"Maggie what's going on?" Sharon asks.

Sharon was confused as she saw Sergeant Voight and Detective Halstead and Doctor Halstead and Doctor Mason who worked in the burns unit and wondered why they would all want to see her.

"It's not good Sharon," Maggie says.

"Ok. Care to tell me what the issue is?" Sharon asks.

Maggie tells Sharon everything from the 15 year old boy being brought in to them finding out he was being abused to Doctor Marcel telling Detective Halstead that the kid was suffering from second degree burns to Will informing them they were third degree burns and how Will called Doctor Mason to confirm it and it is third degree burns to where they are now.

"Doctor Mason, are you confident in your diagnosis that Mr Barnaby has got third degree burns and not second degree as Doctor Marcel diagnosed?" Sharon asks.

"Miss Goodwin I am more confident in my diagnoses and honestly to be doubted is surprising" Doctor Mason says.

"Doctor Mason you are not being doubted but I need to be sure before I go and speak to Doctor Marcel that's all" Sharon says.

Doctor Mason has been working for Gaffney for 10 years and when she gets asked to consult on cases she knows that she will be treated with respect and her diagnosis would be accepted and she understands that Miss Goodwin is just covering her back and she is glad that she is being asked if she is sure in her work.

"I'm sorry Miss Goodwin I understand that you need to ask me if I'm sure" Doctor Mason says.

"That's fine honestly. Can you stay on this case with Doctor Halstead and keep me informed of anything the kid requires and any changes to his condition?" Sharon asks.

"Of Course I can and to be truthful I would rather have Doctor Halstead on this case with me" Doctor Mason says.

"Thank you, it makes it easier for me. Maggie page Doctor Marcel and tell him "I want to see him in my office in the next five minutes and I don't care if he is busy or not?" Sharon asks.

"Of Course Sharon," Maggie says.

Sharon walks away and heads to her office and thinks about what to do with Doctor Marcel and hopefully he has a valid explanation as to why he made a wrong diagnosis.

Maggie does as she is told and pages Doctor Marcel who comes to the nurses station and looks angry but she doesn't care.

"Maggie I was about to go into surgery so don't page me again" Doctor Marcel says angrily.

"First of all, adjust your tone of voice when speaking to me Doctor Marcel and secondly Miss Goodwin would like a word with you immediately" Maggie says using her "don't mess with tone of voice.

Maggie walks away and gives Will a nod to indicate that she is OK and Will nods back saying I know.

When Will first joined Gaffney he didn't know anyone and he was trying to keep out of people's way but when Maggie first saw him she felt like he could use a friend and from that moment Will and Maggie have been looking out for each other and spending time outside of work as well.

Doctor Marcel walks up to Miss Goodwin's office and knocks on the door and waits.

Sharon tells the person to enter and in walks Doctor Marcel and she can tell he is going to be acting like a child by the look on his face.

"Doctor Marcel take a seat as you're going to be here awhile" Sharon says offering the seat in front of her.

Doctor Marcel sits down and now he is confused as to why Miss Goodwin would talk to him and why it is going to take awhile.

"Doctor Marcel care to explain your diagnosis for one of your patients I believe the patient is Benjamin Barnaby?" Asks Miss Goodwin.

"Of Course when young Benjamin was brought in he was in a lot of pain and his arms and legs were completely covered in second degree burns and his abdomen has clear evidence of bruising and I do believe he may have a cracked or broken rib".Doctor Marcel says.

"That's odd how you say Benjamin has second degree burns when in fact I have been informed by another doctor he has third degree burns so Doctor Marcel why have you not diagnosed your patient properly and how did you miss the signs?" Sharon asks.

"Miss Goodwin I can understand that Doctor Halstead knows what he is talking about when it comes to certain cases but he doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to this case" Doctor Marcel says showing his displeasure for Doctor Halstead.

"Doctor Marcel I understand that you are very good in your field of choice but do not bad mouth a fellow Doctor and let me make this clear Doctor Halstead is the best Doctor Gaffney has ever had he will go to the ends of the earth for his patients and he did spot that they were third degree burns and he asked Doctor Mason to consult and she confirmed it as well and since she has been with Gaffney for 10 years she knows what she is talking about" Sharon says.

Doctor Marcel looks shocked he genuinely thought they were second degree burns but looks like he missed them but he doesn't appreciate Will going behind his back and he is going to remind Will to stay in his place.

Sharon knows Doctor Marcel is going to have words with Doctor Halstead and at times he does frustrated her but what she said to Marcel is true Will is a great Doctor and she genuinely likes him as a person and hopes that one day he can be talking over her spot but she is going to suggest that he looks in to learning another field as he can do so much more to help people.

"Doctor Marcel if you are thinking of threatening Doctor Halstead I will have your license pulled and you brought up on charges so fast that you will get whiplash. Do I make myself clear" Sharon says.

"Yes Miss Goodwin" Doctor Marcel says and knows she means what she says.

"I am sending you home today and giving you some days off and when you are back I hope you can explain why you mixed up the diagnosis.
You can leave now." Sharon says

Doctor Marcel gets up and leaves and he goes and collects his things but as he is leaving he deliberately bumps into Will sending him falling back a little and he smirks to himself.

"I know you're not going to just walk away without saying sorry" Voight says as he comes into view.

"It's OK Hank honestly" Will says walking away.

"If I were you I would wipe that smirk of your face just because Will says he is not bothered by what you did just know this you ever do anything like that again or worse I will make sure you regret it and no one messes with my family and that's what Will is family so do I make myself clear" Voight says.

Crockett is absolutely terrified of Voight and all he does is nod and Voight lets him go but reminds him he will be keeping an eye on him.

Benjamin Barnaby starts to wake up and the first thing he sees is a pair of kind green eyes and then he starts to fully feel awake and he sees he is in the hospital and Ben thinks to himself how did I get here.

Jay sees that Ben is waking up and he smiles a little as he feels a connection towards the boy like he already knows he is meant to be the boy's father.

"Hi Ben, I'm Detective Halstead and I work for CPD" Jay says.

"What happened?" Ben asks.

"There was a fire and you were caught in it and you got hurt so the paramedics brought you here" Jay says.

Will walks into the room and is happy Ben is awake and Will starts to introduce himself.

"Hi Ben, I'm glad you're awake. I'm Doctor Halstead." Will says.

"Are you two brothers?" Ben asks.

"Yes we are my brother Jay here is the oldest brother but I'm the better looking one though" Will says.

Benjamin laughs at that and Will and Jay are glad the boy feels comfortable around them.

Jay gets to know Benjamin more and the boy opens up to him and asks Jay loads of questions and in return he tells Jay that he was getting abused by his parents but Will can tell that the boy is holding something back and he hopes that what happened to him didn't happen to this kind and gentle boy.

Fifteen minutes later Hank walks in and introduces himself to Benjamin and at first Benjamin was scared but once he got to know Hank he started to feel more comfortable around him and when Hank said that he and Jay were in relationship Benjamin said that's probably why his parents hated him as he has a crush on a fellow boy at school and it broke Hank's heart to hear this but he told Benjamin that there is nothing wrong with being in to boys or girls or both as long as you are being true to yourself.

Benjamin falls asleep not long after he and Hank spoke and Hank leaves the room to give the boy space and to get his own feeling in order as the whole time he was speaking to Benjamin Hank was thinking about what if he was his son and he would protect him and be a better father this time.

Jay comes up to his boyfriend and gives him a look and Hank motions towards the waiting room and Jay follows him.

"I want to adopt Benjamin," Hank says.

"Really because I do as well?" Jay asks.

"Well then let's get in touch with DCFS and get things going" Hank says, pulling Jay into a hug and giving him a kiss on top of his head.

Hank is going to be a better father this time and he is going to give Benjamin so much love and show him how parents should protect their kids and love them unconditionally.

Jay is so happy that Hank wants to adopt Benjamin and maybe they can talk about adding a baby to their family in the near future.

It had been 6 months since Benjamin Barnaby had been adopted by Jay and Hank and in those 6 months a lot had happened to him.

Benjamin or Ben as he liked to be called had seen what it was like to have a loving family.

He met Justin who was over the moon to have a little brother and Justin told Ben that if he needed to talk to someone apart from their dad's then he can always go to him and if he ever feels like he is a burden then to call him as he would be there and make Ben feel like he couldn't confide in Justin.

Ben was nervous when he met Justin but after a few minutes he relaxed and they bonded and Ben liked that he had a big brother and he couldn't wait to meet his nephew when Justin's girlfriend gave birth.

Jay and Hank had gotten into a routine in the last 6 months and they had gotten Ben a therapist and they were working on his PTSD and Ben was taking out of school as they knew everyone would stare and make fun of him and they didn't want that and Hank made it clear to the headmistress that his son would return when he felt ready and they had every right to take him out as there was no law stopping them from homeschooling their son.

Hank,Jay and Ben pulled up in front of Ethan and Will's house as the three of them had been invited over to celebrate Will getting a promotion at work and they knew how much Will deserved it and how much he worked hard for it.

Will had just completed training in a new role where he would be working with abused kids and children as well as rape victims and would have a team reporting to him and would be the one calling the shots.

When Miss Goodwin had approached Will about it he thought it was a great idea and really wanted to be a part of it but Will was shocked when Miss Goodwin and the board asked Will to be In charge and promoted him to Chief of the new department.

"I can't believe that we are actually getting to spend time with uncle Will for once" Ben says to his dad's.

For the last 6 months Will hasn't really been available but the three Halsteads know that it wasn't out of spite Will was just trying to prove he was right for the job.

"I know what you mean it's been ages but I'm so proud of him and I can't wait to tell your uncle Will how happy we are for him" Jay says.

"Is that why you were talking to Trudy for an hour and telling her how proud you are?" Hank says giving his boyfriend a kiss on the cheek.

"Well as a big brother I have the right to brag about it" Jay says smiling.

"You two are so gross," Ben says.

Hank and Jay just laugh at what their son says they have heard it many times.

Once at the door Ben knocks and Ethan answers it a few seconds later and steps aside for them to come in.

"Here let me take your coats guys," Ethan says.

After Ethan has taken the last coat he tells the three men to follow him into the dining room where there is not only Will but Maggie,April,Trudy,Mouch,Sharon,Justin and Daniel.

"I thought it was just us that was celebrating with you uncle Will?" Ben asks.

"I thought that to Buddy But it turns out I had some people conspiring against me" Will says giving Maggie a look.

"William, look at me like that again and you will have to answer to Trudy Platt" Maggie says smirking at the look on her best friend's face.

"No one messes with my wife," Mouch says.

"Because they wouldn't be that stupid" Ben says and everyone laughs at that comment.

Dinner went well and everyone had a great time and told hilarious stories about Will and that made him blush or try and defend himself but they all enjoyed the atmosphere.

Sharon got up and everyone looked at her and she gestured to Daniel to go and get the box she came with and he went and did what she asked and everyone was confused but no one more than Will.

"Doctor Halstead please stand up?" Sharon asks.

Will stands up and now he is even more confused but the guests start to realize what is in the box and what is going on but they keep quiet.

"The very first day I met this young man I knew he was going to be trouble and he would test my patience but I knew he would go to the ends of the earth for his patients and I have not been wrong as every single day Doctor Halstead you prove that you care and it doesn't matter if you are to busy or to tired if someone needs help or someone is scared you are there to help them and that is what makes me proud to not only call you my colleague but to call you a friend and I am so honored to present you with this coat that shows that you have earned the right to wear so Doctor Halstead or should I say Chief William Halstead of the Special Victims Unit of Gaffney Medical Center" Sharon says smiling with pride on her face.

Sharon opens the box and pulls out the medical coat and puts on Will and everyone claps and cheers for him and Will has the biggest smile on his face and he can't believe that those 6 months have brought him to this.

Ben gets up and hugs Will straight away and he doesn't care if anyone sees him cry a little. He is so thankful to be a part of such a great family and Will hugs Ben and ignores that his nephew is crying as he doesn't want to embrace him.

All the other guests congratulate Will and tell him how proud they are of him and Will thanks them all for coming and he appreciates it.

Will finds Sharon and tells her he is honored to be called her friend and he sees her as friend too and warns her that he won't change that much and she says you better not and gets in her cab she is sharing with Daniel and the three wave goodbye to each other.

Jay,Hank and Ben are staying for the night as tomorrow Will is spending time with all three of them before his first shift on Monday begins.

Ben goes to the room he has at Ethan and Will's house as the two doctors said they wanted him to have a place he could come to when he needed to and even though he has a room at Justin's and his girlfriend's place he doesn't always want to go to them not when they are preparing for the babies arrival.

Jay,Hank,Justin,Ethan and Will were all sitting in the living room having a few beers and talking and joking when they hear a scream coming from Ben's room and Will and Hank run straight to him and when they get there they see that he is in a middle of a nightmare and Will tells Hank to wait outside as Ben may feel overwhelmed when he comes back from the nightmare so Hank does as he is asked.

"Ben is me, Will I need you to come back to me buddy? I know you can do it? Come on Buddy don't let it take hold of you?" Will asks.

After a few moments Ben comes back from the nightmare and he completely breaks down and Will holds him and tells him that he is safe and so loved.

Ben tells Will what happened to him and that he feels weak as he should've been able to stop his dad's friends from raping him and Will knows what his nephew is going through so he tells him what his own dad did to him.

"Ben I want you to listen to me as I'm going to tell you something and I haven't even told Jay or Ethan this but I know what you feel as I felt that way when my dad first raped me and after a few times I became numb and even when he had friends over I was only thinking of surviving so when I tell you that it was not your fault and if you ever need to talk to me I will always be waiting to listen" Will says.

Ben hugs his uncle and they both sit there in silence and Will soothes his nephew.

Outside in the hall Hank is completely angry with Pat Halstead and he wants to go and find the man and beat the crap out of him and put him through the hell Will went through but he doesn't as Hank needs to stay calm and be there for his son and his brother in law as Will needs to have someone he can talk to and Hank wants to be there for the younger Halstead so Hank walks down to the living room he tells Jay,Ethan and Justin that Ben had a nightmare and Will is with him and Hank is just going to make a call than he will be back.

Hank steps outside and brings out his phone from his pocket and goes through his contacts and comes to the number and presses the call button.

"Hello" says a female voice on the other end.

"Hello Olivia," Hank says.

"Hank what can I do for you?" Olivia asks.

"I need advice and possibly your help?" Hank asks.

New York City Manhattan Special Victims Unit.

Olivia was in her office going through the report from their most recent case and making sure that everything was documented so that when the case went to trial they wouldn't lose.

Olivia was deep in thought when her phone went off and she looked at it and saw Hank Voights name show up on her screen and she thought why would he be phoning.

Olivia answered the phone anyway.

"Hello," Olivia said.

"Hello Olivia" Hank said on the other end of the line.

"Hank what can I do for you?" Olivia asks.

"I need your advice and possibly your help" Hank says.

"Ok. Is this to do with a case?" Olivia asks.

"No it isn't" Hank says.

"Ok I'm sorry Hank I'm a little confused" Olivia says.

"I recently found out that my boyfriend's brother used to be raped as a child but I don't think he has spoken to anyone about it" Hank says.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Olivia says.

"Thanks Olivia but there is also something else me and my boyfriend adopted a child and he admitted that he was being raped and I am struggling to be honest" Hank says.

Olivia has been working sex crimes for 24 years so she knows it's not just the victim who struggles but also the family but sometimes a male rape case is harder.

"How old is the victim?" Olivia asks.

"He is in his early 30s" Hank answers.

"When did the abuse happen and stop?" Olivia asks.

"From when he was a young boy and I'm guessing when he left to go to new york for med school" Hank answers.

"Hank I'm sorry but unfortunately your friend won't be able to get justice as it's been too long" Olivia says and she hates that she has to tell Hank that a victim won't get to face their rapist in court.

"You don't think I know that already" Hank says angrily.

Olivia knows he is angry and she lets him lash out knowing that he needs to be angry but when he tells the victim he will need to be calm and explain that they can't bring up any charges.

"I'm sorry Olivia I'm not angry at you" Hank says.

What Hank says it's true he isn't angry with Olivia as he knows she feels the same and when he was in New York working a case with her he saw how much she cared about the victims and it didn't matter if they were male or female or gay or straight it didn't matter to her as at the end of the day they were victims and that's how Olivia treated them and spoke to them like they mattered.

Olivia understands Hank's rage and she herself hates that rape victims only have 5 years to report the crime or they don't get any justice.

"Hank it's OK I understand myself and I wish I could help" Olivia says.

Hearing Olivia say those words makes Hank think and he suddenly has an idea.

"Olivia, any chance you can come out to Chicago and speak to the person?" Hank asks.

Olivia thinks and she doesn't have anything holding her back from saying yes all she needs to tell her boss is that she is going to Chicago for a few days.

"Give me two days and I'll be there" Olivia says.

"Thank you and see you in two days" Hank says and hangs up.

Hank walks back into the house and Will is already back from Ben's room.

"How is he?" Hank asks.

"He is still recovering and he may be a bit clingy so be prepared for that and I would suggest that we change our plans for tomorrow as Ben may not be up for it" Will says.

"That's OK, how about we take Ben home tonight and we just hang out at our house?" Jay asks his brother.

"No I don't want to go back to ours" Ben says coming down the stairs and going straight to Jay.

Jay hugs his son and lets him breathe in his scent as he knows it calms Ben down when he has a nightmare or feels nervous.

"I want to stay here tonight," Ben says.

Hank and Jay are unsure what to do and they don't want to say no to their son.

"How about you guys stay here tonight and then tomorrow you all come to mine and Olive's for a BBQ" Justin suggests.

"Phone her first and then if she says OK we're in?" Hank asks.

Justin reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone.

"Buddy we just want to make sure you're comfortable, that's all" Jay says, giving his son a kiss on the head.

Justin gets off the phone 20 minutes later and tells his dad and his step dad that Olive can't wait to see them tomorrow and looks forward to Will joining as well as she wants to congratulate him too.

After Ben had his nightmare and he recovered the boy went back to bed but Hank and Jay tucked him in and Ben didn't feel embarrassed as it felt nice.

Monday came and Jay woke up and he got ready and had a cup of coffee and he was just getting his boots on when Hank came out of the bedroom and he was changed as well but today Hank would be going to work late.

"I can't believe you have that stupid Sergeant's meeting today, couldn't they have given you more notice?" Jay asks.

"Doesn't work like that unfortunately" Hank says, grabbing a cup of coffee.

"But still to just spring this on you is out of order" Jay says.

When Hank got a text from Olivia on Sunday saying she would be in Chicago the next day and that her plane gets in at 9 am and she asked if Hank wanted to speak at the station he told her his place was better and it's only an hour from the airport and Olivia said that works.

Hank had told Jay he had a Sergeant's meeting as he didn't want to speak to Olivia and someone walks in and interrupts them.

"That's the price I pay for being a Sergeant and I need to go with the flow and I have a few things I need to address,a few things" Hank says.

"Anything I need to worry about?" Jay asks.

"No all good" Hank says and gives Jay a kiss on the lips.

"Ok right I need to head out and drop Ben off at Justin's and Olive's" Jay says.

"I'll see you when I get into the station" Hank says.

Jay waves him off as Ben comes down the stairs and he has his school things with him.

When Olive offered to tutor Ben and help him to keep up with his school work Hank and Jay jumped at the chance and since she has a degree in education it made more sense to take her up on her offer.

Jay and Ben leave 5 minutes later and Hank checks his phone and Olivia has messaged saying her plans landed and she is on her way.

Hank texts the address and makes sure his emotions are in check as he knows this will be a long conversation.

Olivia's taxi pulls up outside of Hank's and she gets out and knocks on the door and Hank opens it and gives her a hug and she walks into his house and they head to the kitchen and he makes her a coffee and after a few minutes Hank is ready to talk.

"I'm ready," Hank says.

Hank tells Olivia everything that has happened in the last 6 months and how much his life has changed and how he has never been happier.

Oliver is happy for Hank and she is glad he is happy but she knows that the second part of the conversation is going to be the worst.

“So tell me about Will?” Olivia asks.

“Where to start Olivia” Hank says.

“How about how you found out about what he went through” Olivia says and squeezed Hank's hand to show that he can take his time.

“I didn't mean to find out and honestly Will has no idea that I know as when he told Ben what happened to him I was out the room but I was listening in and Ben told Will what happened to him and they both still don't know that I know the truth” Hank says.

“This guy Will have I met him?” Olivia asks.

“Do you remember the Yates case?” Hank asks.

“Will was one of the Doctors I interviewed” Olivia says and she remembers him now.

“Yes he was” Hank says.

“I'm sorry I didn't remember him” Olivia apologies to Hank.

Hank understands why Olivia doesn't remember Will and it was a few years ago and a lot had happened.

“It's OK honestly” Hank says.

“Did Will tell your son who raped him?” Olivia asks

“He said it was his dad and his friends” Hank replied.

“Hank I'm so sorry that you have to know this terrible thing and that you can't change it” Olivia says.

“I have always known that Jay and Will didn't have a great childhood and from what Jay has told me it really made him want to be different from his dad and the way he is with our son is just so amazing but sometimes I look at him and I can see the boy who had to defend himself from the man whose job as a father was to keep him safe and love him unconditionally” Hank says.

Olivia's heart is breaking and she knows what Hank is saying as she herself had to deal with her mother and she wasn't the best parent there was.

Hank goes over to the sink and turns the tap on and splashes water over his face.

“Will ever speak about his past?” Olivia asks.

“No he never says anything” Hank replied turning back around.

“It's hard for victims of abuse to speak up, especially male victims and I'm sure Will feels like he doesn't want to say anything as it may make him feel or look weak” Olivia says.

“Will is not weak, he is the strongest person I know” Hank says.

“Hank you know that but Will probably sees it in a different way and he may not want to tell you because he may feel like you might look at him and just see someone who needs to be pitted or protected all the time” Olivia says.

Hank looks at Olivia and he knows she is speaking from years of experience and he is glad he phoned her and asked her to come down to Chicago as he is starting to see what she is saying may be true.

“Look I don't know why Will never told you and I'm guessing his brother doesn't know?” Olivia asks.

“No Jay doesn't know and he has no idea that I'm meeting with you” Hank says.

“Ok. This is what we do first you get your emissions in check as when you speak to Will you have to be calm as that's so important to a victim as it helps them to remain calm second thing you do is speak to Will but do it where he is comfortable with as he needs to feel like he is the one in control and Hank I can't stress that enough so please let Will be the one in control of the situation third thing you do and this is the most important thing you can do and that's to listen to him and be there and if he says he doesn't want Jay to know that's his choice and you can not take that away from him and I know you don't want to lie to Jay but you can't break a victim's confidence” Olivia says.

“I know that whatever Will tells me I'm going to have to keep it to myself and I won't break his confidence” Hank says.

“That's good. I'm going to go and check in to my hotel room but I'm here for at least 4 days so if you need to talk then text me and when you have spoken to Will let me know and if he wants me to be in the room with you or if he wants to speak to me privately then that's his choice but I will say this if he chooses to speak to me privately I won't be able to tell you what he has said so I hope you understand that?” Olivia asks.

“Don't worry Olivia I understand and I wouldn't dream of asking you to break a victims trust in you” Hank says.

Olivia and Hank hug and say goodbye to each other and Olivia leaves.

3 hours later Hank walks into the pit and goes to his office and he sits down and he is completely exhausted and he now has more to think about then he did before.

There is a knock on his door and he looks up and sees it's his boyfriend and he motions for him to enter.

Jay enters the office and sees his boyfriend is completely exhausted and it must of been a rough meeting.

“I take it the meeting didn't go the way you wanted it to go?”Jay asks.

“Let's just say it gave me more questions than answers,” Hank says.

“I'm intrigued,” Jay says.

“Sorry hot stuff but my lips are sealed” Hank says.

“Well I'm sure I can get you to talk” Jay says in the seductive voice he uses when he is alone with his boyfriend.

“I'm sure you could but I don't think our colleagues would like the show,” Hank says, giving him a kiss.

“So what can you say that happened at the meeting?” Jay asks.

“They want someone else in the unit since we have the space,” Hank says.

“Really who do they have in mind?”Jay asks.

“They gave me two names so it's down to me who I choose” Hank says.

“Well I know you're going to pick the right person so I'm not worrying” Jay says.

“I'm glad and I always choose the right people for my team” Hank says.

Jay gives him a look as he walk out the office and it means sometimes you do.

Hank chuckles to himself and he now has to look at adding someone else into the team but he knows it has to be done.

Hank picks up the phone and calls down to Trudy and asks her to get him the files Vanessa Rojas and Sean Roman and when she asks why he just says one of these people will be in his unit and she agrees to do it and the both hang up.

Hank thinks about how he can get to speak to Will without Jay being there and he draws a blank but just as he is about to give up Adam shouts out they have a case and Hank and the team get the information from Adam and it turns out the person that may have committed the crime seems to be dodging the police so Hank comes up with a plan.

“Jay and Kim I want you two to follow the suspect and watch him and see what he gets up to and the rest of you I want you all to look though everything that this person is connected to and what they get upto” Hank says giving the orders.

“Boss, is this going to be through night surveillance?” Kim asks.

“If it has to be then yes” Hank says.

“Just checking that's all,” Kim says.

“Ok then let's get to work” Hank says and Trudy comes up and she hands the files to Hank and walks away.

Hank goes into his office and he puts the files down and one of them is a lot thicker than the other.

“Jay get in touch with Mouse and get him to come to the station as well. I want him to do his thing,” Hank says from his office.

“Who's Mouse?” Dante asks.

“It's a friend of mine and his name is Gregory Gerwitz but people call him Mouse and he is a tech genius” Jay says pulling his phone out his pocket and texting his friend.

Mouse sends a text back saying he will be there and who requested him and Jay send a text back saying Hank did and Mouse sends back a thumbs up.

“Mouse is on his way” Jay calls out.

Hank has known Mouse for a while and he likes the guy and they do need a new tech analyst so hopefully Mouse will want to join the team.

Hank opens one of the files and it's the file belonging Officer Vanessa Rojas and he starts to read it and so far nothing is jumping out at him and he doesn't get much from the file so he closes it and puts it to one side and he opens the file that belongs to Officer Sean Roman and his is the thicker file and Hank can see why it's got loads of complaints in it and reports telling him how Officer Roman conducts himself and that's only 5 pages in and there is still 45 pages left to read so Hank gets up and goes to the break room and grabs himself a coffee and heads back to his office and tries to get through Roman’s file.

Today was Will's first day as the Chief of the new special victims unit and he was nervous but also excited as he couldn't wait to show Miss Goodwin and the board that they made the right choice.

Will left the house before Ethan had woken up as he wanted to get in early and make sure that he was ready for anything that happened.

It didn't take that long to get to the hospital and once Will parked in his new driving space he walked into the hospital and went to the lift and pressed level 7 as that was where all the Chief's of every department had their office.

Will's office was a very big one; he had been given an office that was just like Miss Goodwin’s and when he reached the entrance off his office door on the front was his name and his new title.

“Looks good,” Maggie says behind him.

Will turns around and faces his best friend and she is holding three cups of coffee in her hand.

“April is grabbing the food so we can toast to your new job” Maggie says.

“That's a weird way to celebrate but I'm down for it” Will says.

April arrives a few minutes later and she has got them the same thing and it was easier that way.

“Ok let's check out this new office that you canceled our normal hang out for” April says.

Will opens the door and turns the lights on and all three are stunned as it's completely amazing and very big and when they get further in they look at the view and it's beautiful.

“Very nice Will,” April says.

“Well done Will, you made it” Maggie says.

“Thank you guys. So what food did you get me?” Will asks.

“I got us all the same and it's 3 grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon crisps and I got us Dr pepper sodas for later” April says.

“How much do I owe you?” Will asks.

“Nothing,” Maggie says.

“Will you know we share who pays for lunch? I got it today so it's your turn next week” April says.

Will,April and Maggie have been doing these weekly morning breakfasts together for a long time and when it came to the last week of the month they would all buy for themselves as it would equal out the number of making sure everyone bought once a week.

The three friends all eat their breakfast and talk and tell each other what is going on in their life and when it was time for Maggie and April to start their shift they hugged Will and told him good luck.

Will was getting everything ready as he wanted to be in the new unit as much as possible and the ED knew when they got a suspected abuse case no matter if it was a child or a woman or a man they call Will down or one of the doctors who is working for Will.

The new unit was amazing and the doctors who were working under Will's supervision were extremely well trained but they still needed to learn what patients needed in certain moments.

Will was just going over some paperwork in his office as he had been working in the unit for a few hours when his secretary came in and said he was needed in the ED.

Will left his office and he went down to the ED and he came face to face with Sergeant Olivia Benson.

“Sergeant Benson, I haven't seen you in a long time” Will says as he walks up to her.

“Doctor Halstead nice to see you again” Olivia says.

“It's actually Chief Halstead,” Will says.

Olivia looks at his coat and sees it says Chief of the Special Victims Unit and she wonders what that means.

“Why don't you wait in my office and I'll tell you more about it” Will says and he goes up to Doris and asks her to take Olivia up to his office and he should be there as soon as he is finished with the patient.

Will goes over to the patient and it's a boy who looks to be 14 to 16 and he has a black eye, blood running down his left side of his head and what looks like a stab wound to his right shoulder.

“Hi I'm Chief Halstead and what's your name?” Will asks the boy.

The boy looks up and he looks at Will and he knows he can trust him.

“My name is Gavin Troy,” Gavin says introducing himself.

“Well Gavin it's nice to meet you. Do you have a nickname as I know my nephew likes to go by his nickname?” Will asks.

“I like to go by Troy,” Troy says.

After Will agreed to use Troy's nickname Will got to work and he asked April to be the nurse to help treat the boy.

After cleaning the head wound and making sure that Troy had no signs of concussion Will looked at the stab wound on his right shoulder and after cleaning it Will made sure there was no damage and once he was confident he asked April to stitch up the wound.

Will said that he would check back in an hour or two to see how he was.

Will left the ED and walked up to his office and when he walked into the office Olivia was looking around.

“Looks nice doesn't it” Will says smiling.

Olivia turns around and she sees that Will is back.

“So how did you earn this new office and title?” Olivia asks.

Will motions for Olivia to sit down on the couch and he sits next to her.

Will tells Olivia what has happened in the 6 months and how he was offered the chance to work in the new unit where they were dedicated to helping abuse victims and at first he thought it was going to be as a doctor but the bored wanted him to be the chief and they sent him on some course and he passed all the necessary exams and today was his first official day as the Chief of the new unit.

Olivia is so happy that the hospital have created a ward where abused victims can get treated separately and that the doctors treating them are all trained and they can handle these types of cases and she is glad Will is the one in charge.

Olivia tells Will how she met the boy as she was just walking around town and she decided to go and get some food and she bumped into him and she could tell he needed medical attention but he refused to go in an ambulance so she called a taxi and brought him to the hospital and she said to the nurse who did the intake he may be getting abused but she wasn't sure.

Will could tell Olivia wanted to talk to him about something and he had a feeling he knew what about.

Will gets up from the couch and goes over to his desk and pretends to look for something.

Olivia doesn't pressure Will into talking; she knows it's down to him when he is ready to open up.

20 minutes later Will walks back to the couch and he sits down.

“My dad raped me when I was a kid and he wasn't the only one” Will says.

“When you're ready I'm here to listen” Olivia says.

“Before I tell you I don't want Jay to know?” Will asks.

“Will, whatever you tell me it stays between us and I won't ever break your confidence” Olivia says.

After Will takes a few deep breaths he tells Olivia everything.

“It started when Jay left for the Army and I was 13 and at first it was just him and then after a while had started to bring his friends over and they started to get rough with me and they wanted to play out certain fantasies but when I said no one of them pushed me down the stairs and told me that next time I will do what they want and after that I just let them do whatever to me” Will says.

Olivia takes Will's hand and lets him take some deep breaths.

“Once I turned 18 I got the hell out of Chicago and I made sure to go somewhere that my dad nor his friends would find me” Will says.

“Will, I'm so sorry that happened to you but the fact that you survived shows me that you are a strong person and look at you putting what happened to you and helping people who have gone through the same thing” Olivia says.

“Thank you, I appreciate it,” Will says.

“Will, can I ask you a question?” Olivia asks.

“Yeah of course” Will says.

“Do you want Hank to know or not?” Olivia asks.

“I don't mind Hank knowing but I don't want Jay to know” Will says and there is fear in his voice.

Olivia pulls Will into a hug and she lets him cry and let out all his emotions.

Once Will has stopped crying Olivia lets go and she goes to his desk and hands him some tissue so he can wipe the tears away.

“Thanks,” Will says.

“It's OK. Did you want me to phone Hank and be here when you tell him or do you want me to leave?” Olivia asks.

“I would really like it if you stayed,” Will says.

“Then that's what I'll do” Olivia says.

Will gets his phone out of his pocket and he sends Hank a text asking him to come to the hospital and to come to floor 7 as that's where his office is and he gets a text saying he will be there in 30 minutes.

District 21 intelligence unit.

Hank had just finished reading Roman’s file and it gave Hank more questions than answers and he now had to think about if the guy was right for his unit or if he was a risk.

Hank's phone goes off and he picks it up from the desk and it's a text from Will asking him to come to the hospital and to go to floor 7 and meet him in his office so Hank sends a text back saying yes he will be there in 30 minutes.

Hank grabs his jacket and heads put his office and the team look at him.

“I need to head out I'll be back as soon as I can” Hank says.

Jay looks at his Sergeant/ boyfriend and wonders where he is going but Kim comes up to him and he focuses his attention on her.

Hank gets to the hospital and he goes to floor 7 and once he is out of the elevator he looks for Will's office and once he finds it he can't help but smile at the title on the door and he knocks and when the door opens its Olivia who is standing in front of him and he knows that Will has told her.

Hank walks into the office and he immediately goes to Will and he hugs the man and Will wraps his arms around Hank and they just stand there for a few minutes.

After both men break apart Will and Hank sit on the couch and Olivia takes the chair and Will opens up to Hank about what age he was when he started to get raped and at what age it ended and how the people were violent and he just let them hurt him.

Once Will is finished Hank pulls him into a hug and just let's the youngest Halstead take comfort in his arms.

“Hank I know you know most of it as I'm guessing you called Olivia and I'm not angry I appreciate you letting me be the one to speak about what happened to me so thank you” Will says still being hugged by the Sergeant.

“I'm just glad that you feel comfortable talking to Olivia about it and for letting me know also” Hank says.

“Hank when I spoke to you I told you of the choices that Will has and I need to remind you that it's Wills choice on who knows and he has chosen for you and me to know and he has said he doesn't want Jay to know so I'm sorry but you have to keep this to yourself” Olivia says.

Hank looks at Olivia and then looks at Will and he knows he needs to keep this to himself as it's not his place and Olivia did tell him that this was one of the options.

“I understand and Will,I would never break your confidence so when you want Jay to know I'll support you no matter what” Hank says.

Olivia talks to both Will and Hank about how unfortunately that he can no longer get justice and Wil is ok with that has he knew himself it was to late and he accepted it a long time ago but he has got Hank and Olivia to talk to if he needs to.

Will looks at his watch and he says he needs to go and check on a patient but just as he is about to walk out April walks in.

“Don't worry April I'm coming back to check on Troy” Will says.

“Actually he is part of the reason I'm here,” April says.

“What's up April?” Will asks.

April hands Will a phone and he looks at it and it's a picture of Troy and his nephew Ben.

“Hank, look at this,” Will says, handing the phone to Hank.

Hank takes the phone and he looks at the picture and he remembers his son saying there was a kid he liked and looks like this is the kid in question.

“Looks like we found out who my son likes” Hank says.

“Are you guys alright to wait here while I go and check on Troy and hopefully find out how he knows Ben and maybe find out about his home life?” Will asks.

Both Olivia and Hank nod and Will walks out with April and they both head to the ED.

Will and April arrive in the ED and they go straight to Gavin Troy and hopefully he can tell them how he knows Ben.

“Hey Troy, how are you feeling?” Will asks.

“I'm feeling OK thank you for asking Dr Halstead” Troy says.

Will looks at the stab wound and it's starting to heal a little bit so that's a good sign.

“Troy, my colleague April here noticed that the boy in the picture on your phone is someone I know. Can I ask you about him?” Will asks.

“Yes,” Troy says.

“Well the reason I know him is that he is my nephew who I was telling you about as my brother recently adopted him” Will says.

“I wondered why I hadn't seen him in school for the last few months,” Troy says.

“You two must be very close?” April asks.

“We're best friends,” Troy says.

“But you maybe want to be something more perhaps?” Will asks.

Troy blushes at what Will is implying and both April and Will have their answer.

“Troy, how long have you liked Ben?” April asks.

“Since the very first day I saw him at school but I doubt he would ever look at me” Troy says.

“I don't think that's true,in fact I know that's not true” Will says.

“Yeah” Troy says.

“Yeah” Will says.

Troy smiles at the thought of his crush liking him back and hopefully he can get advice from Will.

Will looks at Troy and he can tell that the boy is glad that his nephew may like him and he is going to make sure both boys know that when they are ready to have sex and if they don't want to speak to Jay or Voight then they can come to Will or Ethan.

April gets the tests back that she ordered and Will looks at them and he is worried about what they show.

Troy has an infection due to the stab wound so he is going to be on antibiotics and his test results show that he hasn't been getting enough to eat so it looks like Olivia was right he is clearly getting abused so Will orders one of the nurses to transfer Troy up to the special victims unit and that way Troy can get the attention he needs.

Will asks April to be the boys' nurse and April is happy to do it and she herself is glad that they have a unit that focuses on certain cases.

“OK Troy we are just going to transfer you up to another ward as that way we can do more tests and I want to get a few x-rays just to rule out a few things” Will says.

“Do my parents have to get informed?” Troy asks.

April can hear how scared Troy is and she hates that he is terrified at the thought of his parents finding out and it's not the normal response a kid should have.

“Hey Troy how about Dr Halstead here calls his brother and sees if Ben can come and see you as I know that if I was In hospital I would want my 2 best friends with me” April says.

“Who are your best friends?” Troy asks.

“Well you are looking at one of them and the other one is the head nurse who runs this place” April says.

Troy looks at Will and he then looks at Maggie who is telling a Doctor off.

“I thought the Doctors ran this place?” Troy asks.

“Most definitely not my man I learned a long time ago it's the nurses who run the hospital and you do not want to get on the wrong side of them especially this one who is very scary” Will says.

“I am not scary at all” April says and her tone of voice shows that she is failing at being offended.

“Whatever you say April” Will says and he gives Troy a wink and the boy laughs.

“I'll get your transfer sorted out buddy” Will says and he heads over to Maggie.

“How long have you two been best friends?” Troy asks.

“For years. We were both involved in a bomb that went off at this very hospital and Will thought one of my friends was dead and he told me to put a black tag on him but my friend turned out to be alive and Will said he loved being proved wrong and from that moment we became close and we have seen each other through some hard times plus that nurse telling that doctor off is our third partner in crime and we all look out for each other” April says.

“That's how it should be with friends,” Troy says.

“Troy do you have many friends at school?” April asks.

“Ben is my only friend and with him not being at school I don't have anyone” Troy says.

April forgets what it's like for kids today as when she was at school she didn't have things like social media and it made school less hard for her.

Will comes back and Maggie is with him and she has a warm and kind smile on her face.

“Hi Troy I'm Maggie and I'm the one who keeps these two in line” Maggie says.

Troy laughs at that and when he sees the looks on both Will and April's face he laughs more.

Two more nurses come and they transfer Troy up to to Will's unit and he tells the boy he will see him in a few minutes.

“I'll get started on calling DCFS” April says.

“Actually April I will ask one of my staff to do that if you don't mind as I need you to do something else for me instead?” Will says.

“What do you need me to do?” April asks.

“Can you look into seeing if this is the first time Troy has been in hospital or if he has been here before but under maybe another name or if other hospitals have any record of him?” Will asks.

“Not a problem, I will get on that” April says and she heads to the nurses station.

“You think he has been here before?” Maggie asks.

“I don't know but I'm not ruling anything out” Will says.

Maggie gives him a nod and she heads back to her workstation.

Will heads up to his office and Olivia and Hank are still there and he is glad.

“Everything ok?” Hank asks.

“The patient you brought in Liv I completely agree that he is getting abused and I have a feeling there is more to his story” Will says and he goes and sits behind his desk.

Hank and Olivia take a seat in front of Will.

“After so many years in this job nothing surprises me anymore” Olivia says.

“Can you tell us anything about the patient?” Hank asks.

“His name is Gavin Troy and he is friends with Ben and possibly the boy Ben likes” Will says.

Hank smiles as he remembers his son telling him that there was a boy he liked.

“So what do you need us to do?” Hank asks.

“I have April looking to see if he has been in this hospital before or any other hospitals and I'm going to have a nurse phone DCFS but I need to do a few X-rays first as I think there is more abuse that has happened in the past and I want to get Doctor Charles speak to him as he will need help processing what's happened to him” Will says.

Olivia smiles at Will and she is so glad that he is helping victims and even though he won't get justice for what's happened to he can make sure the next victim gets justice.

“Hank, can you call Jay or Justin's girlfriend and get one of them to bring Ben to the hospital as it would help Troy to open up more?” Will asks.

“Of course and I'll stick around just in case you need me to talk to the kid” Hank says.

“Thank you” Will says.

“I'm going to head off but if you need to speak to me again Will please call me and I promise to answer” Olivia says.

“Thanks Liv i appreciate it and I'll get your number from Hank” Will says and he gets up and hugs Olivia.

“Thanks for coming to Chicago Olivia. It means a lot to me” Hank says.

“No problem but remember what I said” Olivia says.

Olivia leaves Will's office and the hospital and she is so happy that Chicago is starting to help more abused and rape victims.

“I'm going to go and get my staff to get those x-rays started and get DCFS called” Will says and he leaves his office.

Hank gets his phone out of his jacket pocket and he send Jay a text and asks him to bring their son to the hospital as one of Ben's friends has been admitted and Jay sends a text back saying he will go and pick him up and they should be there shortly.
