Chapter Text
After staring into the night sky, I looked to the floor to see the golden dagger still there. I decided to keep it on my person, just in case. I still had my memories of my past life, however, I decided to wonder how I would tell the villagers that I’m (Y/n) despite the transformation I have gone through today. ‘They wouldn’t believe me…Claiming to have become a goddess would be equivalent to having the mind of a lunatic. I see why she said that becoming a goddess is to lose oneself.’
I shift my eyes to the two cats who still sit on the statue, staring at me. “How do you feel?” Calyst looks at me with a slight tilt of her tiny head. I responded, “I feel as fine as I could be.” “Which is?” I sigh, “...Utterly terrified.” She jumps off of that statue, pacing towards me through the water. Her soft head nuzzles against my ankle, making me feel a little safer in this new situation. George speaks up from his position at the base of the statue, “We’ll be here for you every step of the way, just as I had always been.” He smiles softly.
“But you always run off.”
Calyst’s head sharply turns to face George. “Seriously?” George takes his defense. “Okay, yeah, I did run off a couple of times, BUT I was still there.” His face slowly forms into a goofy smile, causing me to stifle a laugh. I smile gently at him. “Whatever you say George.” Calyst rolls her eyes and continues to lean against my ankles, smiling softly at George’s way of making me feel better.
I went silent as I began to think of how to go about this. ‘An evil is about to come about this land…I should create a safe space of refuge.’ The cat duo stare at me curiously, their tails waving in the air. George is the first to speak up about it. “What are you thinking about, (Y/n)?” I look into their eyes, determined. “I feel that I should make a space, one that we can use as a safe area for those who need to get away quickly. No, I need to. Just in case there is a scenario in which we can’t get everyone to safety.”
Calyst’s eyes sparkle with eyes of admiration. “Yes, that is an amazing idea.” There's only one train of thought in Calyst’s head: ‘Despite her being thrown into a role she wasn’t prepared for, she’s already doing so well. I’m proud of her.’ “We will help you, but what about the chosen hero?” George inquires. “Shouldn’t he be our first priority?” I nod at his question, “And that, you are right. Calyst, can you sense Link’s presence whenever you were first looking for him?” She nods. “Then we’ll divide and conquer. I will create the space, George will help me find people who can do construction and once he’s done with that, I will send him to aid you, Calyst, whenever need be.” Calyst nods, “That sounds like a good plan.”
George tilts his head in confusion. “You keep saying space. Don’t you mean place?” I let out a soft chuckle. “No, I mean space.” My eyes twinkle mischievously. “Anyways, I don’t want you guys to worry about that for now. Calyst, do you know where Link is?” Calyst shakes her head. “Unfortunately I don’t. I had a meeting with the three golden goddesses, causing me to lose track of where he went after I saw you chasing George into the forest.” I nod. “Okay, while I figure this out, I want you to figure out where he went. Let me know as soon as possible.”
Calyst nods. “Yes, your highness.” She bows and disappears behind the bushes.
George stays next to me, teaching me how to channel magic energy. It was a little difficult, but I seemed to have understood the complexities of it rather easily. “Just, be careful. Since you are too stubborn and wish to create this ‘space’ so big, you might pass out. And though I could transform to carry you out, I’m rather-" I cut him off. "Weak?” I look at him smiling teasingly. “HEY NOW.” He laughs. “I am NOT that weak. I’m just tired from all of the running today. I didn’t expect that many bokoblins to be in this forest. They didn’t even give me time to transform to defend myself.” I laugh, “Excuses.” He laughs.
We travel out of the forest rather quickly as I covered ourselves in our shadows, making us practically invisible to the monsters. George suggested to head north of the village and that there was a large field, perfect to create a large pocket in space. And the field was quite vast. The moon was shining directly above me as wIe walked to the center of the peaceful field. With the moon held high, I had a feeling that this task will be a bit easier than expected. I raise my left hand up into the sky, feeling the moon’s energy radiating into me. Suddenly, the moon enveloped me in a flash. George, who stood out at the edge of the field, watched from afar.
George watched as the moon beamed right towards your hand. The light had showered your figure, causing you to disappear from his sight. A translucent dome started to expand from the top of the sky to the bottom of the ground right in front of his paws. “How on Hylia’s land did she figure this out in such a short amount of time…She truly was handcrafted by the golden goddesses themselves.” He stared in awe, watching the edges of the dome melt down into the ground. The dome traveled down into the ground, reconnecting to create a perfect sphere deep beneath your feet.
The dome flashed softly in George’s eyes, giving him the chance to see you floating in the air for a split second. Immediately after, you disappeared. “A space, I see now.” He chuckles. “A literal pocket of space, what a brilliant idea!”
You exit out of the dome right in front of him, seemingly hunched over yourself. “Y-You were right,” you stuttered, “that took a lot out of me.” Finishing your sentence, you start to fall down. George quickly morphed into his human form, accompanied with black horns with golden tips protruding out of his head. He wore a completely black set of armor with a golden cape. He catches you quickly, your head landing on his chest with a soft thud. “I told you so.” ‘Perhaps I should take her back to the garden while she recuperates?’ He looks around, looking to see if there is another refuge site nearby. There were no campfires nor lights that were around the area. ‘I think that is the safer choice.’
He picks you up, hooking his arms under your knees and back, and takes you back to the garden. This time, it was without the help of your shadow magic. George had shadow magic as well, but it wasn’t nearly strong enough to cover the both of you; he could only shadow himself. He could still hear the distant shouting of guards who were looking for you as well as the garbling noises of the bokoblins. George already knew it was gonna be difficult. It would be difficult telling them what he is, who he was carrying, and why he was in the woods. Telling them that he was taking a passed-out goddess to a hidden garden in the woods would be rather strange and suspicious despite how true the tale is.
His eyes look down at your face. Though there were only small cosmetic changes to your face, you definitely didn’t look like your old self. No one would recognize who you once were. George saddens at the thought, but he has a task he must accomplish: get you to safety until you wake up.
George focuses his mind and starts his silent trek through the forest. The forest’s arms seemingly loom over him like a predator waiting for the right moment to jump at him. Nearing a bush, the sound of a guard’s voice booms over him, nearly causing him to drop (Y/n). “Have you found her yet?” Another guard from afar responds loudly, “Not yet.” The guard closest to him let out a frustrated sigh. “How about we just go back?” Another guard appears in front of the frustrated man. “Hello? What if she's in danger?? We can’t go back now!” He looks at him incredulously. “Well,” the guard defends himself, “it’s extremely late, and its been 4 hours since we last saw her run into the woods. She’s probably dead.” He lets out another sigh. “Everyone, let's head back. We’re done here.” At this point, everyone is starting to realize just how fake their seniors are.
After all of the guards in the area had left, George was left to digest how the upper levels of the royal guard hid behind a plastic mask of dignity and honor. He scoffs, grateful that (Y/n) wasn’t able to hear them. He stands up, his horns pointing tall towards the sky as he continues to walk back to the safety of the garden.
A month has passed since Calyst left to find Link. It has also been a month since the creation of the hidden realm. During this time, (Y/n) and George hired a large group of builders of many different species: Hylians, Gorons, Rito, Gerudo and Zora. Each group focused on different aspects of the realm, and held a promise of secrecy to the newly-born goddess. The Hylians focused on the castle, sat on top of a hill, of which she will reside in to rule and protect all who are in need of refuge. Half of the Gorons gathered many resources to build the castle and houses, while the other half started construction on town houses and walls. The Rito helped with planting forests, constructing farms and building the taller structures of the castle. The Gerudo and Zora helped to create the walkways of the realm as well as the town square, the marketplace.
(Y/n) watched in satisfaction at the progress everyone had made. She made sure to bless each and every single individual who helped this huge project for eternity, as well as their descendants. She took care of them at each waking second, making sure they had their rest and other necessities for survival, as though they were her own children.
“Bellare, is this what you wanted the central part of town square to look like?” A female Zora spoke to her, showing an idea of what she and a Gerudo woman created. “That’s beautiful! We should also make sure to add beautiful flowers and small trees and bushes around that fountain.” (Y/n) smiled happily. After a month of being a goddess, she knew she could never return to the name of (Y/n). This is because she is simply unrecognizable to her “previous self.” She has talked to some familiar faces before such as Mrs. Manday, and she had no signs of recognition in her eyes. Perhaps it is the physical changes of her hair or eyes, or perhaps it is her aura. Either way, she is saddened by that fact, but perhaps it is for the better. Should people find out that regular civilians, like her old self, could turn into god or goddess, many evil people will come to light. She already had enough evil on her plate.
During the past month, (Y/n) trained hard, discovering what her powers could accomplish. Her powers consisted of the light and the shadow. The shadow powers allowed her to cloak herself and others in shadow, allowing herself to prank others, hide from enemies, or to simply travel faster in the dark. It also acted as an extension of her body. While using it, the shadow can easily wrap itself around any part of her body, allowing her to extend her reach for miles or to let her dangle from high surfaces. The shadow can mold itself onto objects as well, such as a scythe (the size of a claymore) she mainly uses that's made up entirely of her light magic.
Other than bending light into weapons such as a scythe or bows, her light powers allow her to travel rather quickly. She is able to create portals that lead to the different locations of Hyrule. It allows her to amplify her strengths, but greatly amplify others’ abilities around her through a light blessing. Thus, she can heal others just by amplifying their abilities (including metabolism and healing processes), but it would not cause any wounds or injuries to heal immediately. The light powers also allow her to cast orbs of light to use as offensive attacks, but they aren’t as powerful as the damage she can do with her scythe.
Despite this new knowledge of her powers, she feels that she could do more. She is the carrier of the triforce of power, she just hasn’t unlocked whatever is missing yet.
About four years have passed. Bellare’s kingdom was finally finished and furnished with all of the essentials of survival. Many of the workers have begun to reside in many of the newly built townhouses, some have decided to reside in the castle to serve as a loyal servant of Bellare. It had become a fully functional yet still developing society, and Bellare couldn’t be prouder of her subjects.
Bellare had slowly started to lose a part of what was once (Y/n) in the first year. Yes, she was still as kind and graceful as ever, and she still had her memories, but she has hardened her heart in order to become a strong yet caring leader. She has to. Otherwise, this threat that is soon to come will take advantage of that weakness.
Calyst had only come back once. About six months ago, she delivered her findings to us, stating that a new General arose shortly after the first month of construction. Since then, she had continued searching for where she felt Link the strongest. Bellare’s, George’s and Calyst’s suspicions began to rise. A General would only be replaced should they de-rank, if they were put out-of-commission, retire, or worse... Dead. However, after about two years of searching, Calyst could faintly sense his presence within the walls of the guard’s headquarters. Calyst gave her thought on the matter, thinking that the guards were perhaps tainted, and kept him in a holding cell.
The trio, George, Calyst and Bellare decided that they needed to do some sneaking around within the guard’s headquarters. However, it had started right as they walked out of the hidden kingdom’s barriers. A war had begun between the light and the Demon King, Demise.
I alerted personally-picked Hylian knights and Gerudo warriors to stand in front of the entrance of the kingdom right in front of the barricade. Should I ever come across any villagers fleeing from the village, I can direct some to safety.
George and Calyst turned into their human forms while I got the portal ready to head back to my hometown. Calyst had extremely long hair, copying the long tail that waved softly while she walked as a cat. White horns with iridescent blue tips protruded out of the top of her head.
Light strands extend from the bottom of my shoes, traveling through the ground beneath us. It suddenly shoots upwards towards the sky, creating a wall of light. The wall slightly rippled, causing the village to appear in front of us. George went through first, then Calyst, and then I. The village was already in disarray with monsters battling many of the guards. Many people were already laying on the floor with pools of blood surrounding them. Villagers around us were running, some with children in hand. We immediately directed them to the group of knights waiting outside of the hidden kingdom for refuge.
We then started to run into the village, summoning our weapons for battle. George bore a claymore, and Calyst bore a spear. My scythe materialized in my right hand and with one swing, I killed the large group of monsters running towards us. We continued to run through the village, aiming for the guards’ headquarters which was in ruin.
A light and graceful voice rang in my head as we approached. “Even though you have spoken with them in this new form, they may not recognize you as a Goddess yet. I will aid you in persuading them.” A golden amulet appeared in my hands. It had the insignia of the heavens and the triforce carved into it. Anyone could sense how such a small thing was producing such immense power. Many more monsters started to come after us because of it. “Thank you, Hylia.” I wrapped the chain around my neck and continued to travel quickly into the headquarters.
“Halt! Who are you?” A guard at the entrance questioned us. “We were sent by someone. We need to find the previous General, General Link.” The guards’ eyes widened. “And why is that?” He questioned furiously. “Do you think we’re so weak that we need to release him to aid in battle?”
“Yeah.” George stared blankly. “It also sounds like some sort of insecurity is arising.” He sticks his tongue out. Calyst hits his arm and grabs his ear with a tight pinch, whispering angrily, “Shut up, you’re making our chances of getting him even slimmer.” George talks back, but I tune them out as I realize his implication. ‘He isn’t dead, he's not old enough to retire, nor is he missing according to Calyst. They kept him. They locked him up?’ I could feel my power surging in anger within me. I take the amulet off my neck and show him the symbols.
The guard stops breathing. “W-where did you get this?” He stammered. He recognized it. “Show me where he is. The goddess Hylia is in need of him for this war.”
The guard nods and bows; knowing that we had some direct connection with the Goddess Hylia, he was worried for his life if he disrespected us any further.
The guard lets us in and informs the current General of the situation. The General is immediately covered in a nervous sweat and nods at us. “Bring me his clothes as well as his sword and shield.” Each General is given his own sword and shield welded to an individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Usually when a General retires or dies in combat, they are never given their weapon and shield, usually they’re displayed in the hall of fame. The entire room is filled with whispers as Link’s armor, shield and sword is brought into the room. The return of a sword and shield has never been heard of. The guards, confused at first, immediately understand what is to happen. Link shall return as General, and defend this land should he accept this request.
As we walked past many rooms and hallways filled with guards, each one displayed a look of grief and guilt, each with varying levels. I glared at them. ‘They did something.’ We descended down a multitude of floors, reaching the bottom floor deep within the grounds. There, attached to the wall through chains was a Link who was beaten, burned and covered in blood. His bones almost seemingly jutted out of his skin, showing just how malnourished he is. Angrily, my voice boomed against the wall. “Give him food and water. Now!” Noticing how some of the guards who followed us didn’t move, I grew angrier. “NOW!” The guards quickly scrambled to retrieve food and water.
The current General seemed to have ever-so-slowly approached Link. Just the sight of him moving without urgency makes me ever-so-slightly pissed. The shadows seem to have darkened around us as anger continues to brew deep down in my soul, my left eye glowering a bright red amidst the darkness, almost looking like fire. “Hurry up.”
Calyst softly held my hand, rubbing the back of it gently to calm me down. I took deep breaths for her, feeling bad for possibly scaring her or George. I continued to take deep breaths as I scanned Link for injuries. It seemed as though the only thing keeping him up right was the chains. His legs limply stood against the stone floor. He was barely awake, but he was alive. His breaths were shallow as he weakly lifted his head. The first person he noticed was me. He recognized me. And I recognized the golden triforce engraved into his left hand. He was visited by the Goddess Hylia. I let out a sigh of relief.
The current General stepped into the cell after finally unlocking it. “Link, the hero. We need your help.” Link lets out an echoing scoff. “Seriously? After torturing me for four years, you ask me for my aid?” He glared down at the General, his eyes, once a soft blue, had turned icy. Link never thought they had the audacity to ask him for his assistance. Link thought it was truly pathetic.
The General looked down in shame and described the events that are currently occurring up in the surface. “The Demon King’s army has already attacked us, and he still is.” Link took a deep breath in, carefully thinking of his options. “It was you, my own people, who decided I was too powerful, too strong even, and that you did not require a hero, despite her last visit to you, General.” The General’s eyes widened, his eyebrows almost flinging off of his forehead. “How did you know about that?” Link scoffs. “Her Majesty visited me as well. Multiple times, in fact.” He sighs. “You’ve broken my sword and shield in front of my eyes, and now you’ve come for my help when it is convenient for you.” His tone was no longer the kind Link I talked with all those years ago. “I no longer can run with how long you’ve beaten me.” He smiles bitterly at the guards in front of him, remembering those terrible memories.
My heart starts to race again in anger. ‘How dare they. These mortals-‘ George’s hand on my shoulder cut my thought off. I take a deep breath in once more. ‘I must maintain composure. However, I must deal with them later.’
“Terrance, your blacksmith, has mended both your sword and shield back to normal.” Terrance steps forward, showing off the shield and sword which were in pristine condition. He stares at the sword and shield in silence. His eyes then travel to me then back to the General, sighing before speaking once more. “I became General to protect this land and its villagers under the name of Hylia. I will continue to do so, but only for the land that Hylia has so graciously given us, as well as Hylia herself.” Link looks at the General harshly.
The General nods, appreciative of some sort of resolution as he uncuffs Link. Link immediately starts to collapse to the ground. I caught him before he could completely slam against the floor, hugging him tightly in my arms. Link returns the hug immediately, shoving his face in my hair. “I know it’s you, (Y/n).” He whispers with a soft smile. “Thank you.” My hardened heart crumbled under him as tears started to fall from my eyes immediately. I whispered back, “Of course, Link. I’m sorry it took me so long.” I continued to hug him as I started to amplify his metabolism, hoping to speed up the process of his healing. “I’m so sorry they did this to you.”
Link chuckles. “Don’t be, none of this is your fault. I just never knew how tainted our guards of light were.” He shoots a glare at the General and guards behind him. George takes Link’s clothes while Calyst takes Link’s sword and shield out of the guards’ hands. “Leave already. You aren’t wanted here.” George’s voice intimidated my echoes around the cell, causing a chill to run down the guards’ and General’s spine. They immediately nod and bow before leaving.
I hold Link’s head against my forehead, my hands holding his cheeks. “When you’re strong enough to walk, I will help you get out of this hell hole to eat where there is light. I’ll be with you every step of the way.” “I’d appreciate that…and I’m not only fighting this war for Hylia.” I look up into his eyes that gaze down caringly at me. “I’m fighting for you as well.”
