Chapter Text
You had a day off from work. And you decided to explore the Underground. As you were walking through the shining walls of Waterfall you heard a familiar melody. The statue with Umbrella in hand was stilled in the moment. Its sad eyes reminded you of the times it was placed, the first years of your seizure in new home.. It longed for clear vast sky, free fields, wild forests. The quiet, yet comforting melody echoed through the cave walls. Your ears twitched slightly, as you looked at small cracks on it.
‘ We need to patch it up. I should probably inform architects. ’
You listened to the melody for quite some time.

After you felt water drip that fell on your muzzle you decided to move. Twitching your tail at the idea of getting wet. You went to the water clover puzzle part. It was quiet here. For some reason not many monsters passed though this area, which made it feel motionless and lively at the same time. As for you, you enjoyed being here. Not only because of lively plants but for unknown parts. Who knows where the clovers may take you this time. And if you discover a new interesting place you can inform The Royal Scientist about it.
You let out a little purr at the thought. Dr W.D.Gaster was very interesting, OH! Who were you lying to, you loved the skeleman!
His voice even though he spoke in another language?, later identified by you as Wingdings. Remembering how long it took you to learn it is quite funny considering the amount of time you spend figuring out that it was a cipher of all sorts. Who even knew one can TALK in Wingdings ! It had sighs yes, it had its own font of English. But even now you don’t really understand a Royal Scientist without the help of his hands , as the sound language makes is very confusing.
His actions and his will to help monsters, to break the barrier. The CORE thanks to which the Underground has power. His knowledge on a lot, and you mean A LOT of things. You even can remember times when Dr Alphys asked him about some plant and he went into full explaining mode, which you gladly and quietly listened to.
You loved to tell him first about any new findings, even though he told you that it’s better to inform the King. You just liked to see the spark in his eyes when he got to know something new. It seemed like he was a kid getting new books which he was interested in.
Anyway, now you gently placed fourth water plant on the wet surface. You gently stepped on its petals and they moved. Surprisingly, they stopped soon and you saw a little cavern deepening. It was a field of echo flowers and a bench. Young plants, although there were some full grown.
You twitched your whiskers. There was a familiar scent in this place, yet it was vague. You placed your paw on the floor, careful not to hurt any flowers. You stepped through the glowing field and proceeded to sit on the bench. As you did so you took in your surroundings. The cave was small yet echoing every smallest of sounds, purple and blue gems shined from the soft glow of echo flowers. Your ears sharpened trying to keep with every sound around you. Quiet yet loud.
As you were enjoying the sound of flowing water and its echo, you heard a soft voice.
— I just wasn’t ready for the responsibility.
You’ve known it. Every monster knew this voice. King Asgore . Although he sounded broken, so soft and grieving. It hurts to hear such a lovely person sound so crushed. But not too long after your ears pointed you to another echo flower. It was the voice of Gaster, quiet and supporting? It was strange, but now that you think about it, maybe this place was some sort of his or His Majesty secret location. And even so you liked the idea of getting some personal information about Scientist, you still weren’t sure it’s a good idea considering that.. he barely knows you .
Quickly you moved back to water clovers and drifted back to where you came from. Tip of your tail nervously twitched, but you really weren’t sure about the reason. Maybe you're just anxious about.. well something must be it.

Next day at the lab you still thought if you should tell him about the place. But strangely you never came across a Royal Scientist. It was.. strange not seeing him anywhere even so he seems like he lives in the laboratory, or in the CORE to be fair. You became really nervous when you saw Dr Alphys. It’s not like she isn’t nervous all the time, it’s just that she seemed even more nervous that day.

Then another day passed.

And another…

He was finally back. But he looked tired, like really really tired and not normal tired. Even though he was (some sort of?) skeleton with eye sockets, he seemed to add two more under his eyes. And once you were close enough you saw his hands. There were two holes. Two ideal holes in them. They were so perfect that you were SURE they were made intentionally and with precise calculations. But while watching from afar you managed to understand his signing in which he said that it was “an accident”. You weren’t buying it, but at the same time, who were you to say words against The Royal Scientist of Monster kind.
When he thought that he was alone you clearly saw that he was happy. For some reason, his face seemed more relaxed and pleased than anything else. Your ears fell flat as you thought about many reasons as to why. Never really have enough power.. not enough confidence to ask him yourself. You just kept in the dark, like some stray cat. At the thought your tail twitched and whiskers trembled. All you did was clench your fists and move on with your task.

After some time passed.. One day, the day after Gaster visited King he was.. Well he was strange, it was hard for you to understand why. He looked like he was in some sort of pain, maybe guilt. At one moment you saw that his hand was shaking slightly. At this point you think you broke a little, you shouldn't have come up to him, he was clearly not in the mood for chit-chat. But you just couldn’t help yourself, you wanted to comfort him in any way.
—Dr Gaster? - you spoke up after you made soft steps towards a tall monster. He looked in your way, you know he noticed you as he summoned his hands to talk with you. You are nervous. You think that your tail is twitching a little. - How’s the CORE stabilisation process going?
—’ It’s alright, no need to worry about anything so far’. - he spoke and signed to you. His voice seems shaky. Or maybe you just wind up.
—Ah. I s-see. - Damn you stuttered! - Sorry about beating around the bush. Um. I wanted to ask if you’re alright? - His eyes moved to your muzzle and you felt your ears flutter slightly. You started to panic.
‘Was it too personal? Oh Asgore beard it probably was. I should apologise. What was I even thinking?! ’
—Sorry! I didn’t mean to pry or to get into your personal doing.. I-I just.
‘ Want to make sure you’re okay! That you’re safe! To make sure no one hurt you.. ’
—✌︎☟︎📬︎ ' I see.' - he slowly interrupted you and signed. - ' I am.. tired and just slightly shaky after the last experiment . It was emotionally hard for me to' - he stopped signing like he just remembered the fact that the thing must be kept secret. He cleared his throat (did he have a throat to clear? or was it just mimicking?) and continued. - ' Anyway, um..'
— . - You told him your name softly. It’s not like it was easy to remember names of all scientists, you understood it. It didn’t hurt. It’s okay . Your whiskers moved forward, these traitors . Gaster didn’t seem to notice anything wrong, or he just chose to ignore it.
—' Dr , did you find any new places in the Underground?' - he changed the topic. At that your tail moved sharply to the other side, but it’s okay .
—Well. In fact, not really. - he looked at you, question clearly written on his face. - Um. I was in the Waterfall. Oh! I think that the music statue should be repaired, there are quite a lot of cracks on it. - He nodded slightly for you to continue. - I went to the water clovers area - you noticed Gasters hand twitch slightly and your (e/c) eyes sharpened. - There was a place, a small cavern, but I think I am not the first one to find it. - You smiled a little remembering the view and calmness of the place. You purred slightly. - I’m not gonna lie, the place is lovely. But.. I’m pretty sure you already know of it, Dr Gaster.
He hesitated at first but then nodded softly. His eyes too sharpened.
—✡︎☜︎💧︎📬︎ ' Yes, there was a place like that.' - He hesitated for a moment and his hands stilled for a while. - ' Me and the King had some conversations in that place. It was secure. The King even insisted on placing a bench there.' - He smiled at the memory of something and his magic pupil wobbled a little. You carefully took a look at his other eye that was more closed than another, probably because of the crack above it, although the other eye (with a crack going down) didn’t seem to have such a problem.
You are just happy that he seems more relaxed now. You don’t know if you helped that much, but even if you did something, well.. you did something at least.
