Feeling unwanted in a place where you thought you were wanted

Summary:

He sat against the pole as his body shook from how hard he was crying. Why did he let them reassure him that they loved both omegas equally? It was glaringly obvious that they favored Hyunjin more, anyone could tell with one glance at them. The soft adoration and love in their eyes when they looked at Hyunjin makes him almost cry on the spot because he knows they don’t look at him like that. And god, he craves it desperately.

Chapter 1: Chapter one

Summary:

Changbin ran out the front door and into the dark of the night, ignoring the (worried?) shouts from his pack, sobbing. He had no idea where he was running to but he didn’t care just as long as he could be alone. Eventually, Changbin arrived under a streetlight in an empty street. He leaned against the pole to catch his breath shivering as he regretted not grabbing a jacket on the way out.

Hello!! This is my first fic that's been published, I just had to make it angsty lmao. Angst hurts but it feels good, yk? Beware that I'm like bad at writing so if its weird, I'm sorry. I also don't know much about the omegaverse, all of my knowledge is based off of fics I've read and I've only read like 5 fics about it. Forgive me if I miss some stuff.

Chapter Text

Changbin ran out the front door and into the dark of the night, ignoring the (worried?) shouts from his pack, sobbing. He had no idea where he was running to, but he didn’t care as long as he could be alone. Eventually, Changbin arrived under a streetlight in an empty street with his never-ending tears. He leaned against the pole to catch his breath shivering as he regretted not grabbing a jacket on the way out. 

 

He should’ve known- no, he did know but he let himself believe them like the fool he is. Hyunjin was always the better omega out of the two of them, he was always going to be the one to have all his pack’s attention being the ideal omega: soft face, wide doe eyes, and delicate frame. He was a ball of sunshine that seemed to sparkle every time you looked at him.

 

While Changbin wasn’t delicate, he was bulky and had a larger frame with a sharp face. Most assumed he was an alpha and frowned at him with disgust or pity when they learned he was an omega. Changbin understood, he didn’t have that charm an omega should have. He was boring, uninteresting.

 

He sat against the pole as his body shook from how hard he was crying and his scent smelled like a fire instead of its usual earthy one. Why did he let them reassure him that they loved both omegas equally? It was glaringly obvious that they favored Hyunjin more, anyone could tell with one glance at them. The soft adoration and love in their eyes when they looked at Hyunjin makes him almost cry on the spot because he knows they don’t look at him like that. And god, he craves it desperately. 

 

But what hurts him the most is that Chan, his first love and best friend, seems to love Hyunjin more. It’s ok really, Changbin thinks, ignoring the ache in his chest. He has no control over who Chan loves. Some people just click better with others.

 

 Except… This is the case with the rest of the members and not just Chan.

 

They still love him and care for him, but it feels like there’s not much of an effort put into loving him.

 

For example, Minho cooks Changbin's favorite dish (pasta) weekly and he always thanks his alpha with a wide smile to show his appreciation, but he loves to bake extravagant sweets he knows Hyunjin loves whenever he can (which is almost every day). He asked Minho why one day and he answered,

 

“Hyunjin’s reaction is so fucking adorable. The pure joy on his face every time he tries my baking is addicting.”

 

He said gazing fondly at the napping Hyunjin In his lap on the couch, his calming coffee scent turning sweeter. Changbin agrees too, he loves Hyunjin just like the rest of them do.

 

One day, he hears Jisung ask why he cooks pasta for Changbin weekly from the living room and peeks into the room.

 

“He always whines about it and if I’m honest, it pisses me off, but Seo Changbin is the second person who appreciates my cooking. Jinnie being the first.”

 

Minho rolled his eyes and scoffed before his expression softened into a small smile, looking towards Hyunjin who was too absorbed in watching the tv to care about the conversation.

 

Changbin and his omega reeled back, hurt. He got to his room as quickly and quietly as he could, trying to suppress his feelings so the pack wouldn’t smell his soured emotions. Changbin only broke down when he was sure no one was nearby. Minho’s words cut him deep, was he really that annoying? God, he should shut up.

 

The contrast between Minho talking about Hyunjin and him was terrifying. Changbin is really a shitty dongsaeng, isn’t he? Always complaining about something though most of the time it’s jokingly. Still, his heart broke.

 

Changbin doesn’t know when he stopped crying. He is only staring into the distance now but his omega is whining to be held by his alphas, to be cared for like he’s longed for the past few months now. He doesn’t blame Hyunjin for what he feels or how the others feel between him and Hyunjin.

 

Changbin knows his best friend is just being himself and that the other members are just so infatuated with him. Hyunjin deserves this, he’s always had and always will. Changbin only wants the best for his fellow omega, and he could never be selfish and take this away from him.

 

He didn't know when it changed but he’s noticed recently that the pack has started to pay less and less attention to him. At first, it started with forgetting to kiss him goodbye. Changbin never thought any more of it and chalked it up to just them being tired or in a rush, but it somehow turned into them not even letting him know they were going out to dinner or the mall. Then they would go for a few days, not even having a full conversation with him.

 

Another thing too, his heats and Hyunjin’s always started at the same time (Hyunjin kept saying it’s soulmate things) but recently, they’ve spent time with Hyunjin’s heat. Leaving him to deal with the pain of need and want by himself.

 

Changbin can feel the rejection, they didn’t want him. None of them did. His pack doesn’t want him has been the only consistent thought that’s been lingering in his mind.

 

It felt like forever since he talked to any of his members for more than a minute but when he did, it was always about Hyunjin. Hyunjin this, Hyunjin that, and it goes on and on forever.

 

 He felt unwanted and invisible in a place where he thought he was wanted.

 

 Changbin talked to them about it because he knew it’d get worse. They were horrified as he explained his feelings and the events. It made them apologize multiple times and with that, it ended with the promise that it wouldn’t happen again.

 

(little did he know, they were empty).

 

Chan’s face fell when he brought it up and wanted to make it up by spending the next day with him.

 

And so, he woke up feeling better for the first time in days. The omega went to find Chan with hope and opened the door to his room only to find no one. He looked at his phone to see if the pack leader had texted him.

 

[5:32AM] old man

Changbin I’m so sorry babe

I forgot I was supposed to fly to Australia to visit family with Jin

I couldn’t cancel it

We can hangout another day

 

The hope inside of him then crumbled into dust, Chan had always checked if he was free first before making plans. This wasn’t like him.


It enforced the idea of being rejected further and his omega was in pieces. His heart was in pieces.

 

Changbin suddenly sprinted all over their shared apartment with fear, checking everyone's rooms but it was all empty. The only things left were made beds and a clean bedroom. Tears started to well up in his eyes as he plopped down on the couch. He looked back at his phone.

EIGHT IS FATE?!

No one told him that they were going to visit family, but a reminder popped up on his phone, it was Chuseok. It made sense that the others naturally assumed they were all visiting their families, but they seemed to forget that Changbin didn’t have family (his mother and father died when he was just a teenager and his sister left him to die).

 

Changbin told Wooyoung and Yeonjun when they hung out, he couldn’t keep it to himself. The two alphas were confused that he was forgotten just like that and beyond furious as he tried his best not to cry while fumbling over his words. It took a crazy amount of self-control to not tear his pack (could they be called a pack?) into pieces by the end of it.

 

From there on, they’ve helped him with his heats and whatever else he needed to feel loved. Afterall, he was important as well.

Hi! So I’m deciding to rewrite the first chapter a bit. I think it’s kinda of shitty towards the middle where changbin is recalling on how the members care for him but not really. I should expand on that more since it’s only Minho I’m really mentioning. I’ll expand on that and bring in Chan more since this is focusing more on him and Changbin. The end is everywhere imo and I wrote it that way because my patience with writing the rest wasn’t lasting 💀💀 

 I’ve also procrastinated writing the second chapter but I’m picking it back up again soon, I’m just busy with catching up on my classes and focusing more on me this year but I’ll post the last part of this story hopefully by the end of this month. I’m so sorry for keeping you guys waiting but please bear with me lmao 🫶🫶

Chapter 3: Chapter two

Hello! Happy holidays, I am back after more than a few months. Originally, I planned to complete this work of mine in August, but writers block beat my ass. There were several other things that got in the way such as mental health, school, and injuries I’ve received. I’m all good though, I do sports, so it’s normal lmao. I recently popped the joint in my thumb which is sore as fuck right now as I’m writing this along with my (sprained? Bruised? Broken?) toe that hurts, I was limping. That’s not even the last of it, I have three bruises. Two on my right leg and one on my left, my shins and knee suffered. Combine that with the lack of food and water in my body and it’s a fucking nightmare because I passed out last week but it’s not my first time. OK NOW I'M JUST GOING OFF TOPIC. Anyway, thank you to all of you who have patiently waited for the closing chapter and my apologies for taking this long, I truly appreciate you. This is my gift to you this year <3

Chapter Text

“Changbin?” 

 

Chan’s voice broke him out of his thoughts, he looked up to see his leader in front of him, panting. Changbin doesn’t want to see him right now, not after everything that’s happened. Why can’t he be left alone? They seem pretty good at doing that.

 

"Bin... look, please come back now."

 

“No! Leave me alone.” Changbin cried, he stood up faster than he could think. He didn’t want to go back regardless of his omega screaming for his alpha’s arms. “Stop, just stop.”

 

“No, we need to talk about this.” Chan slowly took a step towards Changbin as if he was a frightened animal, trying  not to scare him away. He frowned when Changbin’s scent turned bitter with fear and distress.

 

“We did! We have talked, Chan, but you clearly haven’t listened well enough.”

 

“We did?”

 

“The day before you left with Hyunjin for Chuseok, you promised me that you’d make it up by spending time with me, and usually you check if you’re free, but you didn’t. Not only that, you, and the rest left me alone on Chuseok without fucking telling me!”

 

“fuck, baby, I’m sorry.”

 

“STOP SAYING SORRY WHEN YOU DON’T MEAN IT.”

 

Chan froze; it was the first time Changbin had shouted at him. “I’m sorry, we didn't—I didn’t mean to hurt you like that.”

 

“Yeah? Well, too late, you’ve already done that.” He laughed bitterly. “Don’t fucking talk to me until I’m ready.”

 

Chan watched the younger one run off, assumingly to Wooyoung and Yeonjun. He fucked up big time. Chan not only scared him but neglected him as well. Chan clenched his fist in frustration, if only he didn’t…

 

“Holy shit– you run fast!” Jisung yelled. He slowed down, coming to a stop beside Chan, confused why he was standing alone. “Chan?”

 

“What? Oh! Um, Changbin ran.”

 

 

 

 

 

Chan didn’t say anything else to the pack, who were worried sick, when he came back, too busy caught up in his own thoughts.

 

How could he do this? Changbin meant the world to Chan, but apparently not because he managed to forget him entirely. Hell, he was Chan’s first for everything—his first friend, his first love, his first boyfriend, his first mate, and the list goes on and on. Changbin was the one person Chan would always think of if someone asked him who he would choose to spend the rest of his life with. His answer will forever be Changbin. 

 

Chan got caught up with Hyunjin because he was going through a rough time with his parents, and it made him more sensitive, so he and the pack shifted their attention to him just a little more.

 

Bullshit Chan, you know you’re making up excuses.

 

It was painful to admit but Chan knew was in denial. He had neglected Changbin and hurt him deeply. He couldn’t have done this, surely. He would never! Chan was praised multiple times for being a great packmate, always attentive, observant, caring, etc. All the things one should be. So, how did this happen? How could Chan let Changbin slip through his fingers like this?

 

 

 

 

 

“Who the fuck is knocking?” Wooyoung grumbled, getting up from his warm bed to the answer door. God, his neighbors don’t know how to fucking shut up do they? Bless their young hearts but it’s draining to wake up in the middle of the night to be interrogated basically. One day, Wooyoung will give in to his urge of punching them in the face but for now, he’s going to be the civilized person he is. 

 

 “Changbin?”

 

The alpha was hit in the face with the potent scent of a distressed omega. He took a step back from the intensity but opened his arms. "Oh, Jagiya, come here.”

 

Changbin wasted no time to bury himself in Wooyoung’s arms, sobbing violently. He clutched the back of his shirt hard enough to ground him. Changbin couldn’t shatter again, not when the glue holding him together was still drying.

 

Wooyoung rubbed his hands up and down his friend’s back, softly reassuring him. Shit, how bad was it this time? Changbin spoke to them, leaving no details to spare a few months back, and it ignited anger like no other. Wooyoung actually surprised himself with how self controlled he was, the urge to tear into the others was strong but at the time, he had to be calm and cool for the sake of Changbin. Yeonjun briefly shared his thoughts on the situation, rolling his eyes and scoffing the entire time. Changbin was relieved by the end of it to tell someone. It lifted a heavy weight off of his shoulders and he wondered why he didn’t say anything earlier. 

 

After Changbin calmed down, Wooyoung led him into the shared bedroom, where Yeonjun was sleeping. He stripped himself of his shoes, shirt, and socks as fast as his shaky arms could go to jump into bed; all he wanted to do was sleep right now. Maybe cry some more.

 

“Chan’binnie, wha’re you doin’ ‘ere?” Yeonjun slurred, recognizing the warm earth scent. He wasted no time curling around Chanbin. Wooyoung slipped in a few moments later.

 

“No-nothing, Junnie. Just, um, a bad time with my pack”

 

“I swear, Bin, I’m going to knock some fucking sense into their damn heads tomorrow." Changbin jumped a bit when Yeonjun hissed next to him. “It’s ok, it’s my fault anyway. It wouldn’t be like this if I presented as an al-“

 

“Seo Changbin, don’t you dare think this is your fault. They shouldn’t have been neglecting you as your packmates, period. Whether you were an alpha or not, it’s horrible to treat someone that way.”

 

He teared up again, it feels like he’s spent the entire night crying. Changbin loved these two to death; how is he so lucky to have them? “Thank you, I love you two so much. I don’t know what I would do without you guys.”

 

"You'll probably get lost, but never hesitate to call, we’ll always be here for you.” Wooyoung chuckled, delicately wiping the tears off Changbin’s face.

 

Changbin let out a quiet hum in response, he was exhausted from all of his emotions. The screaming from his omega became quiet, relishing in the calming scents from his best friends. His eyes closed, letting sleep take him away.

 

“Wooyoung, we can’t let this slide.”

 

“You’re an idiot if you’re thinking we’re going to, Jun-ah” The other one snorted, “Right now, we can sleep.”




 

 

 

Jisung didn’t understand what happened; what wasn’t Chan telling them? What’s wrong with Changbin? He couldn’t shake off the heartbroken look on his leader’s and Changbin’s faces; it haunted him. Something’s wrong ( duh, Jisung), like he’s forgetting something. It’s at the tip of his tongue, what was it…. Fuck.

 

“Jisung, what’s wrong? Are you okay? Please tell me you didn’t burn yourself.” Chan busted into his room frantically before he saw the rest of the group scattered in the room. Felix and Hyunjin were huddled together on the end of the bed, Minho sat at the foot of the bed, Seungmin was sprawled across Jeongin’s lap on the floor and Jisung looked pissed.

 

“Nothing, now come sit down.” 

 

His hands started to get clammy. Chan was nervous about what was going to come out of his dongsaeng’s mouth. He took a seat next to him on the bed. 

 

“When was the last time anyone talked to Changbin hyung? Like a full conversation?” 

 

Many mouths opened but nothing came out. It got them thinking, when was the last time they spoke to Changbin? It had to be recently, Seungmin swears he was with him yesterday. Or maybe it wasn’t? 


“Didn’t we all go out yesterday? Wasn’t he sitting next to you?” Seungmin asked, trying to remember if it was actually his hyung. 

 

“No? That was Hyunjin.” Felix answered, disbelief clear as he went through their activities as a group. He came up with nothing, at least for the past few months. He hasn’t seen Changbin in ages.

“But wasn’t hyung with you that day when you went shopping?” 

 

“Idiot, that was me with Chan.”

 

“Are you sure, Hyunjin?”

 

“The fuck you mean? I am sure.” 


“Changbin was literally sitting in your room the other day! I swear I’m not crazy, Minho.”

 

Jisung sat in horror. Nobody has done anything with his hyung in days, Chan went shopping with Hyunjin a few months ago. How could Jisung do this to him? How could they just forget about him? 

“How?” He croaked, “how did we just forget about hyung?”

 

The fighting stopped. Jisung continued because he left one of his best friends behind and it hurt like hell but he’s sure it was even more painful for Changbin to be shut out like that. Changbin was a second home, a second parent, one of his beloved sun hyungs. 

 

“It’s my fault, as the leader I shouldn’t have ignored him to help Hyunjin-ah. It was careless of me to think that Changbin would be ok if we took care of Hyunjin more.” Chan blurted out, it was his fault. He told everyone (excluding Changbin) that the younger one needed some comfort and extra love. 


“No, it was mine.” Hyunjin stood up, “I was being selfish for taking up all of your attention, I’m sorry.” 

 

In his anger and grief, Hyunjin wanted to be comforted, and wanted to be held by all of his alphas and betas. Not even thinking about his fellow omega. Tears sprung to his eyes and everyone flocked around him in worry. It was like time rewinded, Hyunjin being surrounded by the group while Changbin sat at the kitchen by himself. His face fell from the bright smile he had on seconds ago.

“It was all of our faults, we each played a part in this.” Minho hugged him tightly to remind him it wasn’t just his burden to carry, “we’re gonna have to make it up to Changbinnie now, hm?

 

“I’m not sure if he’s going to want to be with us anymore after this.” Chan said brokenly. 

 

“That’s his choice to make but at the very least, we owe him an apology. From each of us and as a group.” Seungmin replied.

 

“We’ll figure out where to go from there.”



 

 


 A few days passed  and Changbin found himself back at the door to their dorm with Wooyoung and Yeonjun. He begged them not to do anything but to stand by him as emotional support, Changbin wanted to see if this could be fixed, if they still wanted him. He’s giving them a second chance and he hopes they don’t fuck him over a second time. 

 

“Are you sure, bin? You don’t want me to like, scold them? Or knock some sense into them?” Yeonjun asked, feeling the same anger resurfacing from their first conversation. Saying knock is putting it nicely, he wants to beat them. He could never imagine Soobin just ignoring him or anyone else like this, it would be the end of the world before it came to that. 


“Jun-ah, calm the fuck down, trust our Changbinnie.” Wooyoung placed his hand on his shoulder and Yeonjun sulked a little. He smiled, his mate was utterly adorable. “Besides, if anything goes wrong, we can just Bin for ourselves.” 

 

“Yah, don’t think so ahead now, I still want to try.” Changbin pouted. 

 

“Fine, party pooper– ow! I’m sorry-” Yeonjun jerked back, almost slamming into the door from Wooyoung pinching him. Changbin laughed loudly at their antics, he wouldn’t mind the idea though. Only if it came to that point.


The two stopped, hearing Changbin laugh. It’s been days since he’s done that or anything remotely close to being happy. Yeonjun went to hug him tightly, ignoring the strings of protests and threats that came from Changbin’s mouth. Wooyoung took out his phone, quickly recording the two. 

 

“Cute~ you’re so cute, Bin, I just want to eat you all up.” 


“Hey! You can’t just hog him up, he was my best friend first, bitch.”

 

“First come, first serve. Suck my dick!” 

 

“I will gladly suck your–”


The door opened abruptly, the three froze. 

 

“--dick.”

 

Changbin cleared his throat and brushed himself off. Chan stood shocked in the doorway, he thought he wouldn’t come back if he was honest. 

 

“Changbin?” 

 

Changbin felt himself already gravitating towards the older one, he missed Chan so fucking much despite what’s happened. Changbin threw himself into Chan’s arms, relishing in the warm hold of his alpha. Chan tensed up at the sudden action but held the other tighter, burying his head in Changbin’s neck. 

 

“I’m so so sorry, Bin. As your pack leader and mate, it was awful of me to ignore you. This was all my fault, not yours. You probably don’t want to come back but I want to make it up to you, if you would allow me to?”


Changbin pulled back from the embrace, “hyung, I still want you. Even with what happened, I love you, and I’m willing to give you a second chance but if you mess up, I will leave. We’ll talk more later but for now, you could spend some time with me.”


Does he still want me? He still wants me! Chan burst into tears, he acted like this towards Changbin but was still given another chance. He won’t ruin it this time, he’ll love Changbin again will every last bit of himself. 


Changbin panicked, “what’s wrong Channie?” 


“I didn’t think you would come back to me again. I’m sorry, I love you so much. I’m lucky to be considered to have a second chance, I swear I’ll love you so fucking hard. ” Determination shone through his eyes, and Changbin knows he will be. 


Changbin smiled softly, leaning in to press light kisses against his skin. He was confident they’d figure it out, it was something they were always so good at, and if it didn’t work out, then it’s not meant to be but it was unlikely. They were stuck with each other in this life and every life after. Destined to be together. 



“Do you think we should leave?”

 

“Shut up, you’re going to ruin the moment.”
