Writing on You

Summary:

As Lee Minho grew up, his parents always told him to look out for his soulmate, the one person who could complete him, understand him better than anyone else in the world could, unconditionally love him just the way he is. And when he finds them, to hold on tight and never let go.
~•+*+•~
Ever since he was young, one Kim Seungmin had heard stories about soulmates. Some good, like his parents. Some bad, like his next door neighbors. Some neutral, like the lady at the bookstore. But most importantly Seungmin had heard about how he would be able to find his soulmate.
~•+*+•~
If you were to write, draw or get any sort of mark on your skin, the same mark would show up on your soulmate’s skin in the same place. These marks can help you find your soulmate, but they don’t just lead you straight to their house. If someone were to write any personal information other than their name and age onto their skin it would show up as a smudged mess on their soulmate.

Notes:

Hello everyone! I’m finally posting the first chapter of that 2min soulmate fic I asked if you would be interested in!

I was going to make it all one part but I’m struggling with motivation right now so I figured why not release it into the wild and hope I will be able to continue it sooner.

Also! The Title was suggested by Paresseuse! Thank you! Also thank you so much to the others who suggested a title for this, I’m sorry I didn’t pick yours but this one was ultimately the best fit for how I’ve been writing it!

And in case you get confused:

Chapter Text

One warm spring day, a young boy named Seungmin was sitting at the kitchen table in his family’s home, colouring some pictures with his mother.

The doorbell rang and so his mother went to go answer it, leaving the young boy unattended. Not that he got into any trouble, it’s just that without his mothers guidance, the marker he was using ended up on more than just his colouring page. It got on the placemat he had his picture on, it ended up on his shirt, luckily they were washable markers, and it ended up on his arm.

As his mother entered the room again after dealing with the person at the door she laughed at the mess her son made before noticing the marks on his arm.

“Oh silly Seungmin, you got it all over yourself silly boy. Are you trying to contact your soulmate already? You’re only four!” She says to the boy, who was still happily colouring away.

~•+*+•~

Elsewhere in the city, a boy named Minho, two years older than Seungmin, was playing outside when he noticed a bright purple line on his arm. He ran up to his mother and showed her the mark.

“Mom! Mom, look! I’m turning purple!” He exclaimed, pointing excitedly at his arm.

His mother looked closely at where her six year old son was pointing, worried he had hurt himself and was getting a bruise and was relieved to see it was only a mark from his soulmate.

“Oh Minho, you aren’t turning purple! That’s your soulmate! They must be playing with markers or something.” Explained his mother, laughing.

The young boy looked down at his arm again, slightly disappointed he wasn’t changing colours like he had hoped, but happy to hear his mom mention that the mark came from his soulmate. Because he knew his mom and dad were soulmates and they always told him how wonderful it was to have your soulmate with you.

“Oh, ok. I don’t wanna be a grape anyway.” He said before running off to play again.

~•+*+•~

Ever since Seungmin was seven, he and his soulmate have made some sort of mark on themselves to show that they are alright.

They do this because his neighbor one day was just out walking with her baby when she got a messy message scrawled on her arm from her soulmate. He had been overseas for work and got randomly attacked on the street and was left for dead, and so with his remaining energy told his wife he loved her and their baby girl and that he didn’t think he would make it home.

Luckily, someone had found the man before he bled out and he was able to be saved and return to his wife and daughter.

After hearing this story Seungmin wrote a message to his soulmate asking if they could do something everyday to ensure the other knows they are still there.

.-~•+*+•~-.

Years passed and now Seungmin is in high school. Still making and receiving his daily mark from his soulmate, whom he learned a couple years back was named Minho and two years older than him.

His family had just moved to a new apartment in Seoul and so he had to change schools. It was his first day and he was as ready as he could be walking through the doors.

Almost immediately he got turned around by the sea of students and had to ask someone for help.

He spotted a tall boy with long hair that was dyed blond and decided to ask him.

“Um hi, do you know where the office is? I'm new here.”

“Oh! Hi! I can show you!” The tall boy answered, grabbing Seungmin’s wrist and dragging him off in the right direction.

    “Thanks…”

“Hwang Hyunjin! And you are, new kid?”

“Oh, right, sorry. I’m Kim Seungmin.”

The boy, Hyunjin, nods as they make their way into the school’s office.

“Mr. Hwang, to what do we owe the pleasure today?” Asks the elderly secretary as soon as they step foot inside.

“No reason, granny! Just ferrying the new kid here after he got lost!”

The secretary nods and looks at Seungmin.

“Hello there, you must be Kim Seungmin correct?” She asks.

    “Ahh, yes ma’am, I am.”

“No need to be so formal, you can just call me granny like everyone else. And I’m sorry about him dear, I’m sure he talked your ear off the whole time he was taking you here didn’t he?”

    “Granny!”

“Shush, go to class. I don’t think your parents will appreciate you being late again this week.”

Hyunjin just hangs his head and leaves the office after being reprimanded.

“Now, Seungmin. Here is your schedule. Did you need me to call someone to show you around?” She asks.

“Uh, yes please, if it's not too much trouble ma’am.”

“What did I say, call me granny, all the other students do. They say I’m the grandma of the whole student body. And I’ll call someone right away for you dear. Just sit tight.”

Nodding Seungmin moves to sit in one of the chairs in the middle of the room while she does what she needs to do.

After a couple of minutes, he grabs a pen, pulls up his sleeve and starts writing to his soulmate.

First day at my new school

and I’ve already gotten lost once

That’s got to be some sort of record Min

What are you doing now?

Waiting for the secretary to get someone

to show me around or something

Why?

Just curious

I gotta go, talk later?

Yeah, talk later

“Alright dear, your guide should be here soon dear, do you need anything else?” Asks the secretary, startled Seungmin.

“No I’m alright, ma’a-… granny..” he replies

~•*•~

The first half of the day passes by rather uneventfully, just full of the first day of school introductions and going over the plan for the semester. But when lunch time comes around, Seungmin runs into Hyunjin again who invites him to sit with him and his friends, which he agrees to as he doesn’t know anyone anyways.

Once the pair enters the cafeteria Hyunjin grabs Seungmin’s wrist and literally drags him to a table where three  other boys are already sitting, one with round cheeks practically sitting on his friend that  also has blond hair but cut into a mullet and his face covered in freckles, the third, sitting off to the side looking at the other two with a look that can only be saying, ‘oh my god, why am I friends with you?’

“Sunshines, Innie Baby! Meet Seungmin!” Hyunjin starts when they arrive at the table, “He’s new this year and he’s going to be joining us hopefully for the rest of the year!”

Faced with sudden puppy eyes from the taller boy, all Seungmin could do was nod awkwardly at him.

“Hi Seungmin! You can either call me Felix or Yongbok! Nice to meet you!” Greets the boy with freckles, Felix.

“Hey, I’m Jisung!” Says the boy with the cheeks who is now known as Jisung.

“And I’m Jeongin, Hyunjin, here's soulmate. Nice to meet you.”

After the introductions, Hyunjin sits in one of the empty seats and pulls Seungmin down beside him.

“So Seungmin! We have questions!” He starts, clapping his hands together.

“Uhh, ok? Ask away I guess?”

“First question is a two-parter, when’s your birthday? And what year were you born?” Asks Jeongin.

“My birthday is September twenty second and I was born in two thousand.”

“Dang it! I’m still the youngest!”

Hyunjin, Felix and Jisung all laugh at Jeongin, who Seungmin now knows as the youngest member of the group.

“So we’re older than you Seungmin! You can call us your hyungs if you want!” Announces Felix happily, “the three of us were born the same year, Jinnie over there is the oldest being born March twentieth, then Jisung is next, followed by me. We were born September fourteenth and fifteenth, so we like to say we’re twins.”

Nodding along to Felix’s explanation of their birthdays and how they’re older than him he realizes they never told him when Jeongin was born, a thought he voices out to the group.

“Oh! Sorry Seungmin hyung, can I call you that? I was born on February eighth, two thousand and one.”

“Ahh ok, and yeah sure, you can call me hyung, I don’t mind.”

The rest of the questions don’t really spark too much conversation as they continued to be asked, and eventually the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch and that classes would be starting soon.

“Oh hey! Before I forget Seungmin, let’s exchange numbers.” Jisung pipes up before they all disperse.

Voicing his assent, Seungmin quickly enters his phone number into the other four boys’ phones, telling  himself which number goes with which person by texting himself on their phones with their names before heading off to locate his next class.

~•*•~

At the end of the day Seungmin rushed out of the building and headed straight to the bus stop so he could go to his after school vocal lessons that he had begged his mom to put him into. Before heading to the store to pick up some things that his mom had requested that he get.

Finally once he was home, after eating and cleaning dinner, Seungmin was able to escape into the sanctuary of his room.

Sitting down at his desk, he pulls out a slightly worn journal and one of his favourite pens, puts on his headphones and begins to write out what had happened during his day.

When he is almost through writing his journal entry, Seungmin pauses to think of how to write down his final thoughts. He begins fiddling with his pen absentmindedly, accidentally ending up with more than a few wayward marks on his hands and even a little bit on his wrists, the only thing jolting him back into the real world is when he feels the slight tickle on his forearm of his soulmate writing to him.

Hey, why do we look like we got into a cat-fight with

a person with pens instead of hands?

Sorry Hyung, I was thinking.

Didn’t even realize I was doing it

Oh, for your daily journal?

Yeah, the thing that you got me started on

because you didn’t like how my handwriting was

In my defence,

it looked like a four year olds writing

Sure, whatever you say Minho hyung

The only response that he gets at that is a very angry drawing of Minho’s little character he named Jureumi.

Oh wait, before I forget

I think I already made some friends!

Really? And on your first day too

Aww, my little Seungminnie is growing up so fast!

… why are you like this?

You love it, that’s why

Anyways tell me about your friends Minnie

There’s Hyunjin, Jisung, Felix and Jeongin

All of them except jeongin are my hyungs too

..

Hyunjin is the one who helped me when I got lost

this morning, i guess he decided to claim me?

They all kinda did

You found some extraverts to adopt my little

introvert of a soulmate huh?

I guess so

Oh, i have to go hyung it’s getting late

  Alright, sleep well Seungmin

You too Minho hyung

~•+*+•~

Minho sighs as he walks into the building for the first day of his second year of university, already dreading the fact that his classes start so early in the morning instead of later like his friends Chan and Changbin.

Entering the room where his dance history class is, Minho scans the room for a good spot which he takes as soon as he locates.

The class starts out the same as they always do on the first day of school, introductions, going over the syllabus, already being assigned homework, and so on and so forth.

The only thing that stopped Minho from laying his head down onto the table and going back to sleep near the end of class was a message he got from Seungmin, his soulmate, who had managed to get himself lost on his first day of school in his new school.

They talked about what the younger was doing before Minho's class ended and he had to go.

After his dance history class minho had a free period, deciding to use that time to go get him and his two friends and roommates an iced americano each, texting them to meet him by the library that sat about at the halfway point between their dorm building, the campus and the coffee shop they tend to frequent.

~•*•~

When his two friends arrive at their meeting spot Minho gets practically tackled into a hug by the oldest.

“Bang Christopher Chan. What did we say about doing that?” Minho asks, using his most threatening tone and expression that he knows works on the one still clinging onto him like a koala.

“Sorry Min, but you got me coffee, and now Binnie owes me lunch since you didn’t physically attack me.” Chan explains, smiling rather smugly to himself.

“Whatever, I only got you guys coffee because they were doing a buy two get one free sale.” Minho scoffs at his companions, lying through his teeth about why he got them the drinks.

“Besides, don’t you two have your music theory class to get to in about fifteen minutes?”

Despite Chan and Changbin being two years apart they share a few classes with each other this semester, on account of chan having done a gap year after he graduated high school and when he did go to university he was late registering for some of the classes he wanted to take so now he has to do them this year.

At his words the two boys simultaneously pull out their phones and practically trip over each other in their attempts to start heading all the way to the other side of the campus for class.

After that rather entertaining encounter with his friends Minho also heads back onto the campus to go to the training rooms for the class he never bothered to learn the name of, but he thinks is something like a dance technique class.

Going through the classes his school day brought with varying degrees of enthusiasm, Minho finally is able to stop learning and start doing.

The dance club is the only extra curricular that Minho has, having joined last year as a freshman and returning again this year.

The designated room for the dance club is empty when he arrives, which makes sense as most of the club consists of upperclassmen who probably have a larger classload to deal with before they can come to the club.

Putting his name on the sign in sheet as well as the time he arrived, Minho gets right to work, stretching so he won't be too sore after he’s finished then setting up the song he wanted to work on the dance he was creating for as well as propping up his phone to record what he does so if he likes something he will know what to do or if he doesn't like something, what to get rid of.

~•*•~

Quite a few hours later, when he is dripping with sweat, taking a break and reviewing the footage of his progress. Minho goes to grab his water when he notices a large amount of pen marks scattered haphazardly on his hands and wrists.

“Whoa, nice hands Minho, clearly your soulmate is quite the artist” laughs one of the girls in the club, Jihyo, who had just entered the room along with her friends who are also in the club and two new faces that seem to have already been integrated into the group of seven, now nine.

“I didn't even notice it was there until right before you said something.” Minho starts, then pauses to look around at the room that suddenly feels quite small with ten people inside of it, “Did you want the room to yourselves? I should be going anyway.”

The girls all nod at his suggestion so Minho quickly gathers all of his things, enters the time he left on the sign in sheet and heads out the door, closing it behind him.

As he makes his way to his dorm he pulls out a pen from his bag and writes a message to Seungmin

Hey, why do we look like we got into a cat-fight with
a person with pens instead of hands?

Sorry Minho, I was thinking.

Didn’t even realize I was doing it

Oh, for your daily journal?

Yeah, the thing that you got me started on

because you didn’t like how my handwriting was

In my defence,

it looked like a four year olds writing

Sure, whatever you say Minho hyung

At that Minho stops his walking and draws a rather furious version of Jureumi to Seungmin for the rather sassy way he wrote that last sentence.

Oh wait, before I forget

I think I already made some friends!

Really? And on your first day too

Aww, my little Seungminnie is growing up so fast!

.-~•+*+•~-.

The boys’ school year passes by relatively fast, Seungmin getting closer to the four boys he met at the beginning of the year, so close in fact that he considers them his best friends. Particularly Jeongin, who it turns out lives a few houses down from him and lets Seungmin come over anytime.

Minho excelling at his dance classes, doing alright in the mandatory classes that don’t have anything to do with his major, and hanging out with his two friends. He even manages to get a solo in the end of the year showcase through the dance club.

~•+*+•~

Soon enough it is the Tuesday before Hyunjin, Jisung, Felix and Seungmin’s graduation and Seungmin can be found curled up around jeongin on the younger’s bed.

“Are you sure you’ll be alright without us Innie? You won’t be lonely?” Seungmin askes worried for the boy.

“You’ve asked me that everyday for the past two weeks Minnie, my answer is still the same. I’ll be alright, and if I’m not I can always text or call you guys.” Reassures the younger.

Seungmin hums at the answer and finally releases his friend.

“Good, and I’ll come as soon as you need me, I don’t care how far my school is.”

“It’s only on the other side of the city, Seung. Now, are we sure you’ll be ok without me? I know you and the others are all going to the same school but we all know I’m your favourite.” Jeongin says with a smirk.

Shoving the younger Seungmin laughs, “Gross, I only hang out with you cause someone has to keep an eye on the little baby.”

Jeongin raises an eyebrow, “yeah sure hyung, whatever helps you sleep at night.”

“Brat!” Seungmin exclaims before tackling the younger and tickling him until tears come out of his eyes.

“Ok! Ok! Stop! You win hyung! You win!” Yells Jeongin through his laughter.

Seungmin sits up, victoriously, when he feels a tickle on his arm.

“Oooh! Someone’s soulmate wants to talk to him!” Teases Jeongin.

The elder just elbows his friend in the side “Not all of us had the luck to meet ours at fifteen like you did Innie.” Seungmin fires back, then looks to see what Minho is writing to him.

Hey Minnie, graduation is

 coming up right away right?

Yeah, it’s this weekend

Why?

Just wanted to ask

Is it a crime to ask you questions?

No I guess not, is that all

you wanted to ask hyung?

Yeah that’s it, thanks Minnie

Bye~

Ok? Bye?

“Do you think he’ll show up at your graduation and confess his undying love for you like in the movies, Seungmin hyung?” Asks Jeongin, a glint in his eye.

“No, he doesn’t even know where I live. It doesn't work that way Innie. What movies have you been watching?”

Jeongin just shrugs and looks at the time. “Oh shoot, hyung, it’s getting really late. Didn’t you have to be home tonight?”

Seungmin nods and rises up off the bed, “Yeah, my mom wants to make sure I’m all ready for the ceremony and then I think we are going to see if I got accepted into my first choice university since the letter came today.”

“Alright, call me when you find out then hyung, but I doubt that they rejected you, the only reason the school didn’t make you valedictorian was because you only came this year.”

“Aww I knew you loved me, my little baby bread!”

Smacking Seungmin’s arm, Jeongin helped him gather all of his things back into his backpack and walked with him to the door.

“Ok see you at school tomorrow hyung, and I better get a call tonight where you tell me I was right about the university thing.”

“Will do Jeongin, don’t worry. See you tomorrow.” Seungmin says as he walks off in the direction of his own house.

Chapter Text

Two days before the end of the year showcase, Minho realizes that if classes for university students were ending soon then that would also be the case for the high school students as well.

Putting that thought aside for now, Minho runs through the dance he has been working on for the showcase one more time before he deems it enough practice for the day and heads out to meet with Chan and Changbin who agreed to come with him to pick out his outfit for the showcase.

“Hey Minho!” Chan greets happily after looking up from writing on his arm as Minho walks up to his two friends.

“Hey Chan hyung.” He responds, as the elder boy looks back down to his arm with a small smile. “What does your soulmate want?”

“Oh he's just nervous about his graduation this weekend and I was just giving him some reassurance”

Minho nods at his friend's explanation and looks around for their other friend “Hey hyung, where's Bin?”

“Oh he couldn't make it, his soulmate was writing on himself and it was enough of a clue that he thinks he might be able to find them.”

“Ahh, alright. I’ll let it slide this time I suppose.” Minho responds as the two of them make their way towards Chan's car.

~•*•~

Arriving back to the dorm they share with Changbin, Chan helps Minho carry the bags filled with things he had gotten for his performance and then some.

“Thanks for your help Channie hyung, I’m just going to go take these to my room and relax for a bit. You can shower first if you want.”

“Ok, I’ll let you know when I’m finished.”

Minho nods and heads off to his room, arms full of all of his things.

Once he is safely inside his bedroom and the door is shut, Minho unpacks everything he bought. Hanging his performance outfit on the closet door so that it doesn’t get any wrinkles inside, putting the new makeup he got onto his desk which doubles as his makeup table.

After he finishes organizing he pulls out a pen so he can write on his arm and talk to Seungmin.

Hey Minnie, graduation is

 coming up right away right?

Yeah, it’s this weekend

Why?

Just wanted to ask

Is it a crime to ask you questions?

No I guess not, is that all

you wanted to ask hyung?

Yeah that’s it, thanks Minnie

Bye~

Ok? Bye?

Smiling to himself for being a nuisance to his soulmate Minho puts the pen back where he got it from and flops into bed, pulling out his phone and scrolling through his social media until it was time to go to sleep.

~•*•~

The next morning Minho wakes up to the dance club blowing up his phone with a bunch of messages in the group chat.

Apparently one of the members he doesn’t really talk to all that much had found their soulmate on their way to class and figured that seven thirty in the morning was a great time to let his other club members know.

Setting the chat to ‘do not disturb’ Minho figured now was as good a time as any to wake up and get out of bed. Especially since there was no way he was going to be able to go back to sleep after that.

As he goes to run his hand through his hair he notices a message for him on his arm, just a simple good morning and a smiley face to which he responds with a drawing of Jureumi.

~•+*+•~

The day before graduation the seniors had no school so Hyunjin, Felix, Jisung all gather at Seungmin’s house to hang out and try to get rid of their nerves then later see if they got into the university that they all want to go to.

They don’t really do too much, wanting to wait for Jeongin to get out of school before they look at their letters from the university together. But they do play some video games and order some food while they wait.

~•*•~

Jeongin finally arrives at Seungmin’s house just after the food and lets himself inside, not bothering to knock due to Seungmin’s mother constantly telling him he doesn't have to and that he is always welcome, and heads to the living room.

Three of the four boys already in the room are sprawled out on the floor while Seungmin sits on the couch.

Hearing the front door open and close he looks up from his phone to see their youngest friend arrive and kicks the other two, getting their attention.

    “Guys, Innie is here.”

“My baby bread! I missed you!” Hyunjin says happily to his soulmate. Getting up from the floor faster than any of them have seen before and going to throw his arms around him which was swiftly avoided causing him to pout.

“You saw me this morning Hyung, we live in the same building.”

    “And?”

Looking at the two still on the floor to see them already looking at him rolling their eyes, Seungmin decides to interrupt his two friends before Hyunjin can be any more dramatic about rejected hugs.

“Okay, that's enough of that guys. Didn’t you all decide to invade my house today for a reason?”

“Hey! It was partially your idea too, you know!” Jisung exclaims.

“Yeah, that we all get together to see if the four of us got into university or not. Not coming to my house.” Seungmin says, exasperated by his friend.

“Eh, you say potato, I say let’s go to Minnie’s house.”

Seungmin just smacks the back of Jisung’s head and turns back to face his other friends, who had made their way to sit down when he was distracted.

“So do you guys want to eat first or open your letters first?” Jeongin inquires, looking between the food and letters sitting on the coffee table.

“Letters first! And I’m all of you guys’ hyung so what I say goes!” Yells Hyunjin. Once again leaping up off the floor to make a beeline for the letters, passing them out to their respective recipients.

The other four just look at eachother and shake their heads, though Jeongin has a much fonder look on his face than the others.

“Alright, we’ll open them first. On the count of three?” Seungmin asks, to which everyone agrees.

    “Three. Two. One!”

The four boys all open their letters and read them silently, nobody speaking until-

“I GOT IN!” Jisung yells, throwing his arms up in celebration.

    “Me too!” Felix says happily.

    “Same!”

Seungmin just laughs at his friends before informing them that he made it in as well.

After they open their letters Seungmin gets up to grab napkins, some drinks and pass out the food.

They dig in and soon all that’s left is the containers all the food was in and five content boys on the verge of falling asleep.

From where he is sprawled out on the floor Seungmin looks around at his friends and not for the first time, finds himself so thankful for them.

Thankful they all welcomed him into their little group. Thankful that Hyunjin was the person he asked for help on his first day in the school they are about to leave. Thankful to Felix and Jisung, the so-called sunshine twins always making his bad days better even without trying. Thankful to Jeongin, who he will fully admit is his best friend even within their group.

Though he feels as though soon he will be even more thankful to his friends, like something big will happen and they are going to be the reason why it does.

     ~•+*+•~

Minho groggily walks back to his dorm after his very successful solo in the showcase, even with the very rude awakening he had that morning, boring classes, a lack of coffee and now bone deep exhaustion paired with the normal aches and pains of fully exerting himself, all taking part in making him feel like he could sleep forever.

On his way he ends up running into Changbin who greets him and congratulates him on his performance, but has a big grin on his face, one that clearly has nothing to do with Minho’s dancing.

“What’s with your face?” He asks in lieu of greeting properly greeting the younger back.

“Hyung! I was so close to meeting him! I know what he looks like now!”

“And by him I assume you mean Jisung? And not some random guy that you thought was your soulmate? Again.”

At that Minho receives a light shove from the muscley music production major.

“C’mon hyung, that was one time!”

“Sure, one time. That you told me about. Who knows what you get up to in your spare time, Binnie.”

Speeding up before his friend can shove him again Minho just laughs somewhat maniacally and listens to the younger’s shouts at his words.

Just as he reaches his dorm room Minho feels the telltale sensation of Seungmin writing something to him.

Hey Minho Hyung!

Guess what

You found a unicorn

What? No. What?

You told me to guess Seungminnie, I guessed

I..

Never mind, do you want to

hear my news or not?

Ok, ok. What did you want to tell me?

I got into the university I wanted!

And, so did Hyunjin, Jisung and Felix!

Yeah?

Good job Minnie! I’m glad you get to go where you want and have your friends there too

Thanks hyung! We are all really excited!

Glad to hear it, I know you’ve  been working hard to get in, and now you have.

Minho smiles at Seungmin’s news, he knows just how much his soulmate was hoping to get into whatever school it is that he wanted.

That information is apparently too big of a hint when it comes to finding your soulmate, so whenever Seungmin wrote the name on his arm, it showed up all smudged on Minho’s.

~•*•~

The day is finally here, Seungmin is going to be graduating from high school.

He is at Hyunjin’s house getting ready with the others, well the others are more so goofing off instead of getting ready but he’s used to their antics at this point so it’s easy to ignore them when he needs to.

“Seungminnie, what do you think, the silver or the gold necklace?” Asks Hyunjin, pushing himself into Seungmin’s line of sight.

“You’re the fashionable one here, Jinnie not me. I would probably pick the wrong one and you would start crying like you do before every single one of your dates with Jeongin.”

“I don’t cry!” Hyunjin huffs, turning to face his soulmate, “Right Innie? I don’t cry?”

“Did you want the true answer or the answer you want to hear, hyung?”

“Look what you’ve done to my baby seungmin! He’s taking your side!”

Seungmin just rolls his eyes at the dramatics of his friend and grabs the bow tie his mom had gotten for him. It was just a black bow tie but it had little gray paw prints embroidered all over it, which he thought was quite fitting since everyone says he looks like a puppy.

With the bow tie in place he stands from where he had been sitting at the desk in Hyunjin’s bedroom and faces his friends.

“I was going to ask if I looked alright, but I think there is a much bigger issue here. Why are none of you properly dressed?” At his words the three others start getting ready as fast as they can, grabbing clothes closest to them.

“Oh and Felix, those aren’t your pants you are trying to put on, those are Jisungs.”

Felix looks down at the pants he’s about to pull on and sure enough they weren’t his.

“Thank you Minnie! That would’ve looked silly.”

“No problem Lix, just maybe pay a little more attention to the clothes you grab ok?”

Felix just nods enthusiastically and finishes getting dressed, along with Hyunjin and Jisung.

After all four boys are fully dressed in the correct clothes Hyunjin pulls out his makeup and forces Seungmin back into the chair he had vacated just a few minutes ago.

“Hwang Hyunjin, what are you doing? I don't wear makeup.” Seungmin asks, staring down the older through the mirror.

“Oh come on Minnie! Please! It’s our graduation, the last time we will see most of the people in our class. Let them see how pretty you are!” Hyunjin pleads, clasping his hands together.

“Fine, just not too much. Also let me let Minho know to expect to suddenly have makeup on his face too.”

“Ok! If that’s what lets me pretty up our puppy!”

Seungmin just groans at the nickname, somehow still unused to his friends constantly comparing him to a puppy despite being friends with them for a year now.

Hey Minho, just warning you

my friends are going to

do my makeup for graduation so,

you are going to be wearing it too

Oh? That’s a first, I didn’t think

you even knew what makeup was

Hyung, really? Of course I do,

I wear it every time you do

Seungmin waits a moment for the reply but it doesn’t show up.

Hyung?

Hyung you there?

Ok, bye then. Rude hyung who can’t even say bye

After talking with his soulmate and his last messages being left unanswered, not for the first time though, Minho will sometimes get busy and forget to reply though he always apologizes in his own way for it.

~•*•~

After all of them had their makeup done they headed out the door and off to their graduation, just barely making it there at the specified time.

The rest of the day passes by in a blur of photos, speeches and small talk and by the end Seungmin is just ready to go home.

After the ceremony finally wraps up, Hyunjin, Jisung, Felix, Seungmin and Jeongin are on their way back to the oldest’ house.

Seungmin pulls his pen out of his pocket and writes a message to Minho.

Hyung, it’s official.

I’m finally done with high school.

Oh the ceremony is done already?

Yeah, we just left

At that, Minho draws Jureumi wearing a party hat along with what he assumes are party poppers shooting out confetti.

Seungmin laughs at the silly drawings and sends his own, a simple face blowing a noise maker.

Finally the five boys make it to Hyunjin’s house, gathering in his room and all but passing out once they take off their makeup, shower and change.

-~•+*+•~-

The summer passed quickly for them, Seungmins full of packing, tears, and saying goodbyes to his family and Jeongin. Minhos with relaxing, dancing, vacationing, and preparing for his third year of university.

Soon enough in just a week, it will be time for the two soulmates to start their new school year.

Chapter Text

The last week of summer passes and finally it’s  move in day for Seungmin and his friends.

Seungmin is the first one there, though not long after he arrives Felix joins him and they decide to not wait for their two friends as they texted earlier that morning they would be running behind. Jisung, in true Jisung fashion, didn't have all of his things packed yet and Hyunjin is meeting up with Jeongin before he leaves.

The two boys grab all their things with help from their families and head into their dorm building, hoping they get paired either with each other or one of the other two.

Comparing dorm room numbers they learn that Felix is a floor below Seungmin so they will have to part ways sooner than they would prefer.

“Well, this is my stop, see you after unpacking?” Felix asks his friend when they arrive at his floor.

“Yeah, and hopefully by then Hyunjin and Jisung will be here.”

“Knowing them they’ll get here at the last minute!” The shorter boy calls over his shoulder, laughing as he leaves to locate his room.

Now with his friend gone Seungmin heads up to his floor to find his room so he can get everything inside and let his mom go back home.

~•*•~

After finding his dorm room and getting all his things inside Seungmin and his mom have a tear filled hug goodbye as she leaves him to unpack his belongings.

Seungmin unpacks quickly and decides to write a message to Minho.

Hey Minho hyung

Seungmin, what do you need?

I just finished moving

into my dorm at my

university and got bored

Your friends aren’t there

to entertain you?

No, I think Felix is still

unpacking and Hyunjin and

Jisung aren’t even on the

campus yet, why?

Don’t you wanna talk to me?

I’m moving into my

universities dorm

too Seungmin.

Oh, sorry hyung, I didn’t

mean to bother you

It’s alright, I could use

a break anyways

Seungmin smiles lightly at his soulmate's willingness to pause what he’s doing just to chat with him.

Are you sure? I can always

just explore the campus and

try to find where all my

classes will be

On move in day? You’d be

lucky to get out of your

dorm building right now I’m sure

Really? It didn’t seem to

bad when I got here though

Positive

The two boys continue chatting like that for about an hour until Minho announces he has to go and meet up with his friends Chan and Changbin.

Saying goodbye Seungmin decides to text the group chat with him and his friends.

Puppy Minnie

I’m all done unpacking for now, what about you Lix?

 Lixie Kitty

Just about

Only have energy for like one more box

Puppy Minnie

Ahh ok

Jinnie? Sungie? You guys here yet?

Drama Llama

Just about

Heading up the elevator now

Squirrel Boy

What he said

Puppy Minnie

Lixie Kitty

Deciding that since Felix is almost done unpacking, he can go visit him Seungmin texts Felix separately to tell him he’s coming.

As he makes his way down the hall to get to the stairs, he almost bumps into another boy, apologizing before continuing on his way down the stairs to the floor below. Seungmin walks slowly  down the hall looking at each door's number to make sure he doesn’t accidentally walk past his friend's room.

When he arrives he knocks on the door expecting to see a familiar head of blond hair but is surprised when he sees a boy with dark curly hair answer the door.

“Uh hi? Can I help you with something?”

“Oh I was looking for my friend Lee Felix. He told me this was his dorm?” Seungmin asks more than says, unsure about how to feel in the strong presence of the boy in front of him.

“Oh! Seungminnie!!!” A very familiar voice yells from inside the room, “You’re in the right place!!”

When the mystery boy hears that he steps aside and lets Seungmin into the room, leaving and closing the door behind him.

“Sorry I forgot to warn you about my roommate! His name is Bang Chan, he’s an upperclassman. I was talking to him a bit while unpacking and he’s from Australia too! Can you believe it, Seungmin? I got a room with someone who also came here from Australia!”

“That’s great Lix! I haven’t met my roommate yet- did you say Chan?”

    “Yeah I did, why?”

“Sorry it’s most likely nothing but it’s just that one of my soulmates friends he always talks about is named Chan, not that I know his family name to claim it’s him or not.”

“But it could be! I can ask him if he knows anyone that could be your Minho hyung!”

Felix rambles on about what all he could ask his roommate to see if he knows Minho, completely ignoring any time Seungmin tries to say something, until finally Seungmin decides to bring out the big guns.

“Lee Yongbok! Stop talking! Please!” He finally shouts, successfully cutting off the older boy. “Sorry I didn’t want to yell Lix but I did say it could be nothing so try not to scare him away by asking him most of those things you just thought up.”

“Ok fine you’re right, sorry Seungmin.”

He just waves off the apology before talking about their soulmates, wondering what they will be like in person before Seungmin has a thought.

“What’s your soulmates name again Felix, Chan right?” Seungmin asks, pausing to see if Felix will make the same connection he did, starting again only when he sees the gears click into place.

“Because I think you may be rooming with him.”

Felix squawks at that notion and stares at his potential soulmates side of the room, mouth agape.

Before Seungmin can suggest Felix do something crazy like say something to him their phones both buzz with a message from Hyunjin, when the open it the boys are greeted with a photo of Hyunjin pushing a large box into a room mostly in the center of the photo with Jisung in the corner making a peace sign, clearly being the one to have taken the picture.

“Looks like they made it finally, and are roomed together.” Seungmin states as he puts his phone away.

“Took them long enough,” Felix says rolling his eyes, “How long before they demand to know where we are and come over to avoid unpacking anything?”

Seungmin just shakes his head not even bothering to respond to his shorter friend because he knows it won’t be long at all before the other two come looking for them.

~•+*+•~

Minho stands in his dorm room for the year looking at his perfectly unpacked and organized half and at the half owned by his roommate, already dirty yet nothing seems to have even been unpacked yet.

He had only met the boy for a few seconds when he had assured Minho that he would hardly be in their room before he inexplicably rushed out, leaving the door wide open in his haste.

Deciding to not pay any mind to strange roommates he sits down on his bed formulating a text to Chan to see if he would be ready to go annoy Changbin into actually unpacking his things when he feels a message from his soulmate appear on his arm.

Hey Minho hyung

Seungmin, what do

you need?

I just finished moving into

my dorm at my

university and got bored

Your friends aren’t there to

entertain you?

No, I think Felix is still unpacking

and Hyunjin and Jisung aren’t

Don’t you wanna talk to me?

I’m moving into my

universities dorm

too Seungmin.

Oh, sorry hyung, I didn’t

mean to bother you

It’s alright, I could use

a break anyways

Are you sure? I can always

just explore the campus and

try to find where all my classes

will be

On move in day? You’d be

lucky to get out of your

dorm building right now I’m sure

Really? It didn’t seem to

bad when I got here though

Positive

Minho keeps chatting with Seungmin for a while before he realizes what time it is.

I gotta go now

Seungmin, I’m meeting

with Chan and Changbin

Oh ok, talk to you

later then hyung!

Talk to you later Seungminnie

After saying goodbye to his soulmate, Minho made his way out of his dorm to go retrieve Changbin as his dorm is closer that Chan’s.

On the way there someone, probably one of the freshmen, almost bumps into him. The other boy apologizes before making his way to the stairwell, Minho watches the retreating figure before shaking his head at him for not watching where he was going and continuing on to Changbins room.

When he gets there the door is already open and his muscular friend is standing in the middle of the room, staring at one side of the room. It’s perfectly organized with what made it out of the neatly stacked pile of boxes sitting at the foot of the bed.

“Well I’m going to guess your half is the one that looks like something exploded already even though  all you have there are boxes?” Minho says, leaning on the doorframe with his arms crossed. Laughing when his friend jumps.

“Do you have to sneak up on people hyung? And yeah, I don’t know how this guy is so organized even though he isn’t even done unpacking yet.”

“Bin, you won’t be organized even when you are done unpacking. You’re too.. you for that.”

“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?”

Minho just shrugs his shoulders in lieu of a response and gestures with his head to the hallway.

“Ready to go get Channie hyung before he starts devolving back into how he was last year before the year even starts?”

Changbin nods and they head out of the room, closing the door behind them.

~•*•~

A few days later, when classes are finally moving past all the introductions and done going over the syllabus’. Minho is sitting in the closest cafe to his dorm during his free period with Chan and Changbin when the boy who almost ran into him on move in day hurries into the building.

“Oh hey!” Changbin greets, walking up to him.

    “Hmm? Oh hello Changbin-ssi.”

“Want to join me and my friends? There’s an extra seat at our table?”

“Ah no thank you, I have class right away. I just stopped to get my friend coffee.”

Changbin nods in acknowledgment and waves to the boy as he walks back to his friends.

“Who was that?” Asks Chan when he sits back down.

“Just my roommate.” The shorter boy answers.

At the mention of roommates the gears in Minho’s head start to turn.

“Oh Channie hyung, speaking of roommates, how’s it going with yours huh?” He asks, attempting to smile innocently but he knows is probably coming off more devious instead.

“Oh uh, well. I, um.” The eldest stammers, much to Minho’s delight.

“Oh you are so crushing on him big time, old man.” Minho laughs, clapping his hands together.

Changbin just sits there looking between his two friends, laughing at their antics.

~•*•~

Sitting in his last class of the day, Minho feels the sensation of Seungmin writing to him. But instead of any words there’s just some little doodles.

Bored in class are we?

Oh! Sorry hyung, I’ll stop

It’s fine Minnie, it

doesn’t bother me

If you’re sure. Anyways I

have to go class is almost over

Alright, talk later then.
