Chapter Text
4/5/12
The day of the elections came and everyone wondered who would run for Mayor after the previous one died from the fog that blanketed the town back in December. Surprisingly, Tsumugi put her name in and they didn't want to vote for her at first due to the animosity that Junes brought to the community.
She got votes by offering a month of free groceries, She checked the store's numbers via Azure and they could safely do it if they limited what the voters could get.
Her first act was to install Yosuke as her secretary, to which people complained about favoritism. After a couple of months, they mostly died down seeing how much work got done.

Yosuke woke up early as he realized what today was. It was the day Yu arrived back in Inaba for Golden Week. He started getting ready and went down to see his mom. She was having trouble and he helped get her schedule all figured out for the next week. Teddie came over with Azure, “Whoa~ Tsumugi-san, you’re good at this!” Teddie exclaimed, making her smile.
“I studied politics when I was in college before I had Yosuke due to that man…”
Teddie looks confused. “Who?”
Neither Yosuke nor Tsumugi answered as Azure sighed and went to get Teddie while Yosuke continued helping Tsumugi with her job as mayor. Then he felt Yu tugging at his bond and looked at Tsumugi with a plea in his eyes as she chuckled and kissed Yosuke's forehead.
“Yes, you can go."
He arrived at Junes and saw Yu, dressed in a light gray polo shirt, a pair of dark blue jeans, and off-white shoes. Yosuke hugs Yu, who smiles as he hugs back. “With just video chats and the weekend trips, it’s not enough to keep me satisfied. I want to hold you and feel your heartbeat, Yosuke,” Yu mumbled softly but loud enough for the words to reach the other’s ears.
Yosuke blushed as Yu kissed him. Yosuke holds him tight before Yu finally pulls away to let Yosuke breathe.
Yosuke felt embarrassed by the fact he didn’t see the rest of the team coming up to say hi, minus Rise, who couldn’t free up time in her schedule.
"She and Tetsou send their regards," Ryoji said.
"I'd thought you would be at home with Minato," Kanji surprisingly commented.
"Normally I would be, but today is a special day for Yu. Minato will be here later," Ryoji explains.
Everyone nodded as Yu just held Yosuke close to him. “Okay,” he said
Minato came to Junes with Dojima and Nanako who hugged Yu who started humming after seeing his cousin whom he considers his sister.
Minato smiled and sat down close to Ryoji who was in the shade. Nanako told Yu how her school was going and how she started to take up piano lessons when Yu’s phone started ringing. He ignored the phone as he started feeding Yosuke, making the other blush.
Dojima gets a call. “Why didn’t you tell Mitsuko that you were coming to Inaba?”
“I did, Mom was too busy to pay attention,” Yu deadpans.
“How'd you get the fare? That was five thousand yen!”
Yu just looks at Dojima and opens his wallet showing billions of yen.
“Is that the TV world money?” Yosuke asked in a whisper that only Yu could hear. Yu sent a feeling of assent and put his wallet away. After a while, everyone dispersed and Yosuke took Yu to his place where Tsumugi welcomed them both back with a smile. They went to Yosuke’s room and took their time stripping each other out of their clothes, leaving only their underwear on for modesty's sake before cuddling one another in bed.

Yosuke was sitting with Yu in the living room chatting as Yu’s parents were still home, Yu and Yosuke listened to them as they talked about Yu’s future. That was when the doorbell rang, and Mitsuko answered the door. It was Tetsou and beside him was Rise’s Manager, Inoue Minoru, and Rise herself.
Mitsuko gave a pleasant smile. “Please come in, I’m Narukami Mitsuko. Did you want anything to drink?”
“No, thank you, but I do want to ask you if your son is around,” Inoue questioned.
“What does someone like you want with Yu-kun?”
Rise bristles, catching the implication before Tetsou puts his hand on her arm, calming her down.
“It’s not like *That* ma’am, we need some backup dancers and Rise already knows and can work with your son. Wouldn’t that be better than trying to hire someone who doesn’t already know Rise herself?”
“I suppose…” Mitsuko looks doubtful before leading them to the living room slash kitchen.
Tetsou saw Yu and Yosuke, “Oh! You’re here as well, Yosuke.” Tetsou said as he came in.
Mitsuko glared at Yosuke.“Why someone like you is friends with my son, I will never know.”
Yu just stared at his mother coldly. “He is, and that is all you need to know, Mother. My life is not yours to dictate every movement.” As he says this, she sees the matching rings on their fingers.
Incoherent with rage, she tries to remove the rings. No way is *her* son going to be in *that* sort of a relationship! What would everyone think?
Yu *accidentally* breaks some of her fingers while removing her hand from his own. The pain snaps Mitsuko out of her rage and she just stares at him horrified. “What are you?”
Tetsou moves behind Mitsuko. “Sleep, this is all just a nightmare,” he orders her.
“I would have killed her, you know.” Yu’s eyes are red.
“Somehow I don’t think committing matricide is the best idea,” Tetsou comments dryly. “Where’s her room?”
Yu leads him to the room Mitsuko and William sleep in before returning to the living room. “William?” Yosuke asks.
“My father is either American or British, I never bothered to find out which and he’s been away on some sort of trip that didn’t involve my mother.”
“Oh…” Yosuke trails off awkwardly.
Inore coughs, catching everyone’s attention. Tetsou explains to him what happened and the older man understood even if he didn’t agree.
They left the house after a while with Yu and Yosuke. Yu had left a note for his mom telling her he was leaving the house and going to live with his uncle.
Right as they had gone to the car, Mitsuko had come out in a mad rage. “Narukami Yu!” Tetsou got in between Yu and Mitzuko who was yelling at Yu, telling him he was throwing his life away for being with Yosuke.
Yu looked at his mom slightly pissed, “Mom! Yosuke is my husband and nothing you can say or do will make me change my mind.”
“Well!” She huffed. “I’ll have your father disown you. So now you are no longer a Narukami and I’ll let Dojima know as well.”
Yu looked at his mom and smiled. “That's good then because, with parents like you, I pretty much had to raise myself.”
A while later
The group arrived in Inaba and Yosuke was sleeping on Yu’s shoulder, as Yu had stayed awake. Tsumugi had come over to Junes with the group and Dojima as he let Tsumugi go off on his sister.
Yu, Rise, Yosuke Tetsou, and Inoue had come up and were greeted by everyone but Tsumugi who was still on the phone.
Soon Tsumugi hung up and gave the phone back to Dojima. “So Yu, I know that your mother disowned you. I also know that you can take Yosuke’s last name if you want.”
Yu looked at Yosuke, “Are you okay with that?”
Yosuke nodded. “Yes Yu, but if I may make a suggestion?”
Yu gives Yosuke a quizzical glance.
“Take my mother’s maiden name instead. So, Hanamura-Hoshizora and vice versa.”
Yu nods, agreeing. “As long as we don’t get any hatred for it.”
Yosuke grimaces. “You should know the odds of that.”
Yu’s eyes close, knowing his mate is right.
Yosuke smiled as Tsumugi and Dojima talked to Inoue before they agreed to let the kids do the dance competition. Tetsou got Kanji to promote their business and Naoto is going to be helping to keep everyone safe.
7/6/2012
A few days before the actual dance competition…
Yu was with Yosuke in their dance outfits, to get used to them when the rest of the dancers showed up tomorrow. While waiting for Rise, Yu sighed as Yosuke got up and started to scroll through the music playlist on his mp3 player. “I want to dance with you, Yu.”
Yu chuckled. “Which one did you have in mind?”
Yosuke finally found the song he was looking for and then turned to Yu, “The Waltz.”
Yu smirked as he got up and walked over to Yosuke. Yosuke made sure his mp3 player was hooked up to the speakers as Amazed by Lonestar began playing, allowing Yu and Yosuke to start dancing. While they were doing so, Rise and Tetsou were walking to the practice room when they heard the song and saw Yu and Yosuke waltzing.
“That song fits them well,” Tetsou mumbled.
Rise stared at him. “What makes you say that?”
“That is because Yu and Yosuke both felt like they never had a chance but when they finally realized it, everything went away,” Tetsou replied as the song started to reach its climax.
Yu and Yosuke stopped and Rise started clapping loudly as did Tetsou, making the two boys blush.
Yu looks astonished that Yosuke even knew that dance, he wouldn’t have thought his mate knew the classical dances, Luckily for Yu, he’s a quick study; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to keep up even with vampiric speed. There’s still some disconnect between his body, as it now is, and his mind.
Yosuke looked at Rise as she commented on their form and she could feel something, Yosuke blushed deeper.
Rise then asked how Yosuke knew the waltz
“I was forced into dancing lessons as soon as I hit my growth spurt,” Yosuke looks sheepish. “My parents thought it’d cut down on the number of mistakes I’d make around the store.” Audible only to Yu’s ears, he mumbles that they are right, causing Yu to smile.
Rise looks at Yu curiously, but he just shakes his head, unwilling to explain.
Rise nodded and said they could begin rehearsal now.
While they were doing that Tetsou remained and kept an eye out and the studio door opened alerting the group Yu moved in front of his mate. Tetsou did the same only to calm down as it was Inore and one of the special guests for the Love Meets Bond Festival, Aino Shinki.
Inore waved at the group, “Oh! Yu, Yosuke, you're both here. This is Aino Shinki, she is one of the best makeup artists in the business.” She pauses before realizing something. “Hold on, I forgot I had something to give you." She stated as she rushed off to grab something before coming back with a small box which she handed over to Yu.
Shinki looks over at Yu and Yosuke while smiling. She's glad that they didn't just accept the bond and made it genuine. She remembers when Thanatos came to her asking for her blessing. He admitted that he pulled from her domain to create the bond and wanted to be sure she was okay with it. It very well could have gone badly for him, pulling on other domains isn't something that should be done lightly if at all.
Tetsou gave a smile as he stood close to Rise. Shinki gave a smile as she stayed behind while Inore went to get some of the other dancers, mostly the Kanami kitchen girls.
Yu and Yosuke saw Shinki looking at them. “Umm… Shinki-san, is something the matter?”
Shinki shook her head. “Nothing at all, I am just glad your bond has settled nicely.”
They both look at her, shocked. Before either of them could say anything, Shinki had already moved on and was talking to one of the other makeup artists there.
Yu and Yosuke look at one another, silently communicating. Do you think…?
Yes, Yu responds. We need to talk to Ryoji or Tetsou, I’m sure they know something.
Will they say anything though? Doubt creeps into Yosuke’s mental tone.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t, but who knows with them. Yu says before pulling out his phone and calling Ryoji, Tetsou is probably busy with preparations.
Minato answered after a few rings. “Hello childe, Ryoji is busy at the moment. However, I can answer your question; she is one of Ryoji’s relatives. His aunt, I believe. Don’t quote me on that; however. The relationships between them even confuse me sometimes.”
Yu blinks in surprise. “Okay then...”
A while later, Yosuke decided to take a break. He wipes himself down with a towel, removing the sweat.
Yu focused on him because he could handle a few more minutes before taking a break himself Thank you vampiric stamina, Yu is grateful for it, that and the fact he can’t sweat anymore. However, having to move slowly enough so people don’t get suspicious is annoying and harder than he thought. Hopefully something will happen that makes this a non-issue, Yu mentally prays, before it does, causing Yu to regret his prayer.
Someone was clapping sarcastically and Tetsou made an almost inaudible noise that sounded like a growl to Yu’s ears. Yosuke got up, “Who are you?”
“Ochimizu-san, what are you doing here?” Rise spoke, surprised.
“I came to see how you and your little group are performing and I can see my hunch was right. You can’t have amateurs. Especially high schoolers who haven’t even danced before.”
Yosuke blinks. “I doubt Rise or even Shinki would be happy.”
“What would you know?” Ochimizu asked, glancing at Yosuke.
Yosuke glared back at her before Tetsou managed to calm down the godling.
Yu walked over as Ochimizu turned to Rise and told her rival that she would be dancing with Kamin Kitchen. “I doubt you’ll succeed, may the best team win.”
Rise fumes as Ochimizu saunters away before turning to the others with a smile plastered on her face.
“Right! Let’s take the routine from the top.”
After hours of practicing, Yu is finally starting to get worn out. The others stopped a couple of hours ago but he continued to try and get the moves down while making sure he didn’t move too fast for humans to see.
Yosuke made sure to watch Yu while Tetsou was double-checking to make sure everything seemed okay. He had a gut feeling that wasn’t the case.
Tetsou then checked the website directly at midnight, to see a video come on. He pales, feeling the power building, and tries to close the site but can’t. Tetsuo and everyone in the room is dragged in.
Yosuke was the first to wake up, before looking around to see where he was. He couldn’t see anything past the darkness but was able to find Yu through their bond. He rushes over to his husband’s side, shaking him in the hope that he’ll come around.
Yu’s eyes open and he looks around, there’s enough light for him to see. Yosuke was by his side, "You’re awake!” Yu just nods before spotting the others nearby, he uses his bond with Minato to nudge him awake mentally. When that doesn’t work, he physically wakes him up.
Yosuke followed him, to find that Ryoji was awake but in his godly form. He blinks, surprised he can even see Ryoji through the brightness that flows off the other’s skin like water. The purple eyes blink before Ryoji, as Yosuke is used to seeing him, appears before Yosuke.
“Sorry about that, I didn’t realize that powerful wave would reveal my true nature. Tetsuo is probably going to have issues too, Rise isn’t protected the same way you are.”
Yosuke goes to ask but falls silent at Ryoji’s headshake. He resolves to get answers soon.
Yosuke and Ryoji found their mates but something shot out of the darkness trying to reach the vampires. Ryoji and Yosuke acted but the thing wrapped around Minato and Yu before they could even react, so they watched helplessly as their mates were dragged into the shadows.
Yosuke started to shake and his eyes turned gold, Ryoji also started growling. They went to hunt down their mates until they reached a stage.
Yosuke growled, on the center of the stage were their mates, ribbons holding them in place. Before Yosuke can move closer, he gets pulled back by Ryoji and Tetsou.
"Yosuke, calm down!" Tetsou ordered, sharply. “Look at Ryoji, does he look concerned?”
Yosuke turned to his fellow mate and sure enough, Ryoji looked unconcerned. “They’re fine,” Ryoji says once he notices Yosuke’s gaze.
Yosuke nodded and calmed down slightly, but the gold in his eyes dimmed, looking more like bronze than anything.
Tetsou cleared his throat, "Now, we need to come up with a plan. Rise is scanning the area as we speak."
Yosuke nodded, “I see…"
"Can you three hear me?" Yosuke, Ryoji, and Tetsou heard Rise's voice in their heads.
“Yes,” They sent back, though Ryoji was a little surprised to have someone other than Minato or one of his family members contact him like that, as was Tetsou.
The brothers quickly got over it as Rise continued speaking.
“Good. Senpai seems to be asleep for now.”
Yosuke nods, the glow in his eyes completely fading back to their normal chocolate brown.
“Is there a way to get close without being seen?” Tetsou asked
“No, there is nowhere to sneak through,” Rise replied. “But I did discover something.”
“What is that?” Ryoji asked
“There’s a dance floor underneath your feet,” she responded.
Suddenly the area lights up with the strobing from a disco ball, causing everyone to blink away the spots that fill their eyes. As they adjust to being able to see, Tetsou looks down.
“I just had to be a bad dancer, didn’t I?” He mutters sarcastically.
Ryoji smiles. “At least I am a good one, and your mate is not in danger.”
“No, but yours is. Like that comparison makes it any better,” Tetsou looks at him sourly.
Ryoji just glares, not appreciating the reminder before Yosuke speaks up.
“It’s just dancing, right? We practiced for this.”
“You did, I get to show off my two left feet,” Tetsou mutters, dourly.
“Come on, it will not be that bad and you can save your brother-in-law.” Ryoji tries to cheer Tetsou up. It doesn’t work, going by the look on his face.
Rise spoke up, “Well. I'd like to see you dance, love, and I promise that I won’t laugh.”
Tetsou sighed, sounding resigned. “Alright.”
The first person up was Ryoji and the song he was dancing to was How to Save a Life by The Fray. After his song was over, he moved aside for Yosuke who danced to Clarity by Zedd. Then Ryoji and Yosuke started dancing together to the song If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickelback.
As they were dancing, a soul watched them and once they were done, they left and then the group fell back into the real world. They blink, disoriented from it being that easy. Rise just pouts at not being able to see her lover dance.

The rest of Yu and Yosuke's school year went without any trouble well unless you counted that Yosuke was still getting death glares from everyone else. He would be graduating in March with top marks in all their subjects, when it came time for the planning for the Graduation Ceremony, Yu was asked to say a few words despite the fact he was only in the thespian club.
Yu was okay with it but started panicking when he came back to Yosuke’s place. So Yosuke started helping out with making a rough draft until he got distracted by Yu kissing him on his neck and ears.
Yosuke turned around, “Yu stop!”
Yu looked at Yosuke and started pouting but understood there was a time and place, and this wasn’t, as much as his instincts didn’t like it. Once Yosuke was done with the rough draft he let Yu look through his eyes as he started proofreading it. Yu pretends to sleep while doing so, it’d look better in case either Azeru or Tsunami looks in on them.
Yu started purring as he finished proofreading, he pulled Yosuke close and started to cuddle after Yosuke put the paper away for them both.
The next morning Yu starts to memorize his speech before he and Yosuke get ready for school
Yu waits backstage for his cue. As he hears his old surname, he exits and begins to speak.
There were whispers from the other students about how he must have gotten help from his boyfriend but Yu ignored them. Children didn’t matter to him.
