New Year's Kiss

Summary:

What my brain came up with on why Smiley was at the New Year's festival with Mucho <3

Notes:

I just couldn't thing of anything that made sense as to why Smiley was at New Year's event at the temple with Mucho and not his brother except for this. Not to mention his pretty ensemble that apparently only the other girl's were wearing and not any of the other boys, he looked so cute!!!
Anyways, this is pretty long but enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Nahoya rushed throughout his apartment, making the finishing touches on his outfit while his mother stayed on his heels, trying her best to get her hands on his hair.

He swatted her meddling hands away, “Ma, stop! I told you, there’s no time to style my hair, he’ll be here any minute and I can’t find my other sandal!” he gritted out to her.

Her brown cheeks puffed out in a pout, “But NahNah, I just want to-”

His orange eyes looked at her, a pleading edge to his voice, “Maaaa please, there’s no time!” he reiterated one last time.

Not wanting to stress her son out anymore than he already was, the woman nodded and joined her son in the search for the missing shoe. He maneuvered his arm to let his mint green robe sleeve fall down to his elbow, huffing as the garment fell back in place over his hand once more as he bent down to check under the couch.

“I’m on the way.”

Mucho had sent that text about twenty minutes ago and Nahoya knew the blonde lived far but not that far when he traveled on his motorcycle. He was trying to be ready to just immediately head out once he got to his house so they wouldn’t have to linger and deal with his mom asking Mucho 21 questions about him and what the boy’s were going to be up to tonight.

The New Year’s eve festival.

Nahoya was familiar with the event and was excited when his fellow Toman captain casually asked if he wanted to go with him this year. Usually Nahoya went with his family of course, but his mother actually had plans with her co-workers for a night out and his brother had complained that he was “under the weather” and would sit out this year’s festival.

That still didn’t sit right with Nahoya. He knew his brother like the back on his hand and knew what the bluenette was like when he was ill (not to mention, it’s rare that his brother is sick and he’s not, they usually get colds around the same time) and could tell that Souya was full of shit. He didn’t have the heart to confront him about it though, assuming his brother was just making it up to have the house to himself that night, which would have been totally valid!...if Nahoya didn’t know his brother hated being alone, especially at the house all by himself.

Nahoya shook his thoughts away, he would worry about his brother later, his shoe was still nowhere to be fucking found!

“Nahoya!”

He turned to see his twin coming down the steps with his sandal in his hand, “I found it in my room, I’m sorry.”  Smiley took his shoe and giggled, “I wonder how you can find anything in that landfill.”

Just as his brother was about to reply, the doorbell rang. His mother squealed, racing out from the kitchen, “He’s here!”

Nahoya rolled his eyes fondly. Seriously, what was his mom’s deal? It’s just Mucho…

Even though he told himself that, Nahoya suddenly found it hard to swallow, a shiver running through his body as he flattened out his kimono for what seemed like the millionth time that night. He smiled as his brother came from behind him, picking at stray threads and brushing his brother’s silken shoulders off.  He turned to face the blue haired boy, “I thought you were supposed to be resting.” he accused with a blinding smile.

Souya maintained eye contact as he let out a weak single cough, an obvious farce of his condition and Nahoya was about to rip him a new one until he heard his mother at the door.

“Yasuhiro! Happy New Year!” she exclaimed excitedly.

The blonde bowed to his mother, “Happy New Year Ms. Kawata. Is Nahoya ready to go?”

A warm smile graced the woman’s lips as she ushered the teen in her home, “He sure is!” she beamed, her hand out to present her son.

Nahoya flushed under the blonde’s gaze, a smile meeting his eyes. Mucho wore a pristine forest green traditional yukata and it didn’t occur to Nahoya until now that he’s never seen Mucho in any traditional clothing before, not in pictures or anything.

He looked nice.

He finally shook himself out of it and wanted to punch the wall when his voice cracked as he greeted his friend, “H-hey, ya ready?’ he croaked out.

Mucho simply gave a nod and Nahoya punched his brother lightly on the arm as a goodbye and raced towards the door.

"EXCUSE ME ?!?"

Both boys stopped all movement and stood frozen as the twins' mother's voice screeched out.

Nahoya looked back at his mother, his shoulders falling from his position, "What now, Ma?" He whined.

The nurse shook her phone in her hand, "I know damn well you're not about to leave this house without taking a photo first?!"

Nahoya's head dropped back as he groaned out, "Ma-" he began.

"I don't wanna hear it! Come on Yasuhiro, get in here" She declared, the blonde obeying and returning inside the home.

The two teens stood stiffly next to one another and Nahoya's face burned at the close proximity as well as the sheer awkwardness of the situation overall.  He watched his mother angle the camera towards them then gasp in sudden realization, "Oh! Wait, I forgot something!" She claimed, then left the room.

He chuckled apologetically up at Mucho, relieved at the blonde not showing an ounce of aggravation. His heart thumped in his chest as the fifth division commander smiled down at him.

His mother swiftly returned with a handful of something white and fuzzy. "Here you go baby." She said as she clipped the garment over her son's shoulders.

Nahoya was mortified, "Ma?! What is this?"

"Oh hush, it's cold out." She simply stated, standing back now satisfied with her son's appearance but Nahoya was about to melt into a puddle of his own embarrassment.

"Ma, I can't wear this, this is for girls!" He gripped, as he punched his thigh lightly in frustration.

His mom's brown eyes glared over the positioned phone in her hands, "Shut up, you look cute. Now pose for the goddamn picture."

Going by her harsh tone, the ginger knew if he fought his mother any further on it, it wouldn't be pretty so he dropped it, but he wasn't happy about it.

"Of all times to hide that pretty smile, why now Nahoya? Come on! You don't have to smile Yasuhiro, I know you don't do that much." She said, waving her hand dismissively. The comment actually made the blonde chuckle, his mother making more soft excited chirps, murmuring about his dimples being adorable under her breath.

Nahoya ditched his scowl and strained a grin but he couldn't help but genuinely smile harder as his mother's loud adoring squeal rang throughout the room, "My beautiful babyyy!!" She crooned.

Nahoya watched her take a million photos before grabbing Mucho's wrist. "Alright Ma, that's enough, we're gonna miss the festival!" He dashed out the door as best as he could with Mucho's large stature standing firm as he bid his family goodbye.

"See ya Souya. Bye Ms. Kawata, don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him!" He called out, finally letting himself be dragged off by the agitated ginger.

Nahoya plopped down on the back of Mucho's bike in a huff and the blonde smirked.

Nahoya had to seriously restrain himself from reacting when Mucho pulled a piece of his robe to cover his exposed legs and groin area. "Keep that tucked in." His deep voice instructed as he mounted his bike to start it.

Nahoya simply nodded and hung onto the back of the bike, trying his hardest to not focus on his bare legs spread wide open with his crush's warm body snuggled in between them.

Lord he hopes he doesn't pop a boner.

Chapter Text

Mucho smirked as he could feel Nahoya's boner pressed against his ass. He could feel the Kawata twin try to wriggle away from him as best as he could to create some distance between them, but every twist, turn, and bump had the ginger right up against his back again.

He loved it.

It took no time for the duo to reach the temple, the area already lit up and bustling with life as everyone in town filled the space to capacity.  Mucho held his hand out for the twin to get off the bike, making the ginger snap, "Oi, what are you taking me for, some kind of dame?" He chuckled.

Mucho pursed his lips as he shook his head tucking his hands behind his back, enjoying the boxer shot as Nahoya dismounted the bike with virtually no grace.  Nahoya stood firmly as he smoothed out his kimono, brushing off his shoulders and fluffing his soft hair back out. The glowing yellow festival lights beamed off the ginger's pale orange curls, making them almost illuminate in the night. The pale green robe he wore complimented his skin tone and hair color so perfectly, Mucho knew for a fact the twins' mother had everything to do with her son's traditional outfit.

"You look nice." He simply stated.

Mucho watched the tips of the smaller boy's ears glow red as he scoffed, "Are you making fun of me, ya bastard?" He accused the blonde.

Mucho simply shook his head and began to walk towards the temple steps, "No, I'm being serious. You look very pretty."  It wasn't Mucho's imagination when he heard a choked sound come from behind him, Nahoya clenching the ends of his sleeves to ground himself from the genuine compliment.

The two climbed the temple stairs, and basked in the colorful sight of the festival once they reached the top.  Nahoya let out an excited gasp, "Oh, it looks great! This is amazing!"

Families, couples, and visitors alike were all well into the nightly activities, the smell of food fragrant in the air as stalls of all kinds lined the temple's path.

"Look! They have tricolor dango! That's Souya's favorite…" Nahoya exclaimed, his face drooping slightly, "I wonder why he didn't want to come. I know he's not really sick." He murmured under his breath, but the taller male heard him clearly.

Mucho shifted on his feet as he recalled the conversation he had with the blue haired teen around Christmas.

He was walking Nahoya back home from the diner Takemitchy and Chifuyu asked the officers to meet at, to discuss the issue regarding the Shiba family. While Mucho's heart went out to his fellow Toman member, he was loyal to the safety and harmony of the gang and wouldn't interfere with personal grudges that would throw Toman into a tough position when they didn't necessarily have to fight.

He was certain that everything would work itself out though, things always tended to turn out fine where Hanagaki was involved.

He was a weird kid.

"Whatcha thinkin' about there, big guy?"

Nahoya's voice shocked him out of his thoughts as he looked down at the peach haired boy. A small layer of snow began to form atop his curly fro and Mucho softly brushed it off.

"Nothing. Come on, let's get you out of the cold. I can see you shivering." He smirked.

Nahoya held himself close, the tip of his nose cherry red, "Worried about me, eh?"

Mucho shook his head fondly as they finally reached the twins' apartment. The door opened instantly to the blue haired twin greeting his brother with a warm blanket, "Come on. Ma made tea, it's in the kitchen. Hurry up and sit by the heater to warm up." He instructed with an agitated expression, the concern in his voice betraying his face.

Nahoya giggled, "See ya Mucho." He said and disappeared into his warm home.  As he bent around the corner, Mucho looked down to see piercing blue eyes glaring up at him, "Thanks for walking him home." The Kawata twin grumbled.

Mucho nodded, "No problem." He fought with himself a little and was about to watch the smaller boy close the door before he spoke up, "Uh, hey Souya?"

The door stopped and opened back up, "Yeah?"

Mucho couldn't believe he was actually having a hard time saying this out loud but if he couldn't say it now, he wouldn't be able to face Nahoya on the big day, "I uh," he cleared his throat, "I want to ask out Nahoya at the New Year’s festival but I need him to be alone. Can you help me?"

Blue eyes went wide and Souya's face went blank,  You…want to ask out my big brother? To date?" The tone in his voice was unreadable.

Mucho rubbed the back of his neck, the skin there suddenly red hot, "Yes. I felt like asking at the festival would be a good idea but honestly, I have no idea how to go about it."

Souya sighed and looked back to make sure the two were alone before he spoke, "You're right; you should do it when the two of you are alone but as long as I'm there, there won't be a single opportunity. Nahoya would cling to me the whole time and you will never get your chance. So, with that being said, I'll just stay home and say I caught a cold or something."

Mucho held his hands up, "Woah, wait, but then you'd miss the festival! I don't want to keep you from going?"

Souya shook his head, "Trust me, we would be attached at the hip the entire night. This is the only way. I've been to the festival plenty of times, but this year, Ma wouldn't be coming with us so it wouldn't have been the same anyway."

Mucho nodded his head in understanding as the smaller boy continued, a rare small smile on his face, "But it'll be perfect. Nahoya loves the festival and if you ask him out there, he'll definitely say yes. Just take him to a secluded area like the back of the building or the woods because as long as he's around people or being watched, his reaction wouldn't be as good if it was just the two of you." He smirked as he leaned against the doorframe, arms folded against his chest.

Mucho nodded again, taking everything all in, "Okay, great. Thanks Souya, I owe you one."

"Actually, just bring me back a toy. The biggest one you can win and we'll call it even." The bluenette smirked.

Mucho furrowed his eyebrows in question but decided to drop it. The teen was already sacrificing his New Years for Mucho's sake so it's the least he could do.

"Sure thing!" He confirmed, bidding the boy farewell and walking on cloud 9 the rest of the way home.

So that brings the blonde back to the present where he was now walking down the aisle trying to find the biggest stuffed animal he could find to win for Souya.

Nahoya unknowingly walked by his side, silenced by the arms full of treats and foods he accumulated on their journey. His cheeks were flushed pink as he happily chomped on as many foods he could possibly fit into his mouth.

He looked like a chipmunk.

"Careful, so you don't choke." Mucho warned, chuckling at the muffled protests trying to escape from the ginger's full mouth.

His eyes finally landed on the biggest whale shaped stuffed toy he's seen yet and he celebrated internally when he saw it was a simple target game. He walked up to the stand, ignoring the attendant's face palling at the approach of such a large man. Mucho pointed to the whale, "How much for that one?"

As the man laid out the game's rules, Mucho heard Nahoya giggle behind him, "Oh, ya gonna win me a prize?"

"It's for Souya. To help him feel better." Mucho replied, gripping the ball in his large hand, "I'll win you one next."

A smile tugged at his lips as he heard the ginger coo behind him, "Ooo, such a macho man~."

His face burned as that was all the motivation he needed to power through and win the whale for Souya and a large polar bear for Nahoya. The toys were humongous, almost covering the entire length of the smaller male. Mucho carried both stuffed animals as a light bulb went off in his head, "Hey, imma go put these by the bike so we don't have to keep carrying them around."

Nahoya glanced back at him, cotton candy stuck all around his mouth, "Won't somebody take em?" He asked.

Mucho smirked, "Imma move the bike somewhere nobody will see it. And if someone does take 'em, we'll find them and beat the shit out of them."

Smiley laughed and waited for the blonde to return.

Chapter Text

When Mucho was satisfied with the hiding spot, he returned just in time to hang out some more with Nahoya before the clock struck twelve. As time was approaching a familiar sounding commotion captured the duo's attention.

Just as he suspected, it was members of Toman (of course) seemingly torturing Takemitchy, the crybaby blonde somehow always the center of attention.

A nearby voice declared it was only 10 seconds to midnight, the temple buzzing with excitement as everyone gathered to celebrate. Mucho looked at Smiley, the ginger's grin permanent on his face as their friends surrounded them in excited chatter.

1!!

"Happy New Year!" Mucho exclaimed happily with the others, his mood at an all time high right now. As if things couldn't get any better, a small cold hand snuck its way into his, their robe sleeves hiding the sudden display of affection. He looked down to see sparkling orange eyes staring at him…lovingly?

His heart clenched in his chest as he had to fight back the burning urge to lean down and kiss the Kawata twin right then and there. Instead, he briefly said goodbye to their friends and whisked Nahoya away to his secret spot. There was a walking path surrounding the temple, a sparkling koi pond underneath the traditional temple styled red bridge. He stashed his bike and their prizes at the opposite side of the bridge, the untouched items coming into view as he led Nahoya to the highest point of the bridge's arch. The pond glittered under the full moon, the cool illumination making Nahoya practically shine.

Mucho mentally noted that there couldn't be a single light nor angle the Kawata twin didn't look good under, it was just literally impossible.

A loud bang signaled the commencement of the fireworks show, the sky dazzled with all kinds of colors, the sparkles and shimmers only making the reflection of the pond even livelier.

"So cool!" Nahoya exclaimed excitedly, "Mucho look-" the ginger's words died on his lips as he turned to see the taller male rubbing the back of his neck bashfully.  The taller teen took a deep breath and finally looked his friend in the eye, "Nahoya, I like you. A lot, and it wasn't till I talked to my father one day that I realized exactly what it is I like about you."

Smiley turned to face Mucho head on, the small boy inching closer at Mucho's words.

"He said that, I talk about you the same way he used to talk about my mother. I didn't know her well since she passed away when I was young, but he told me that she was his perfect opposite. When she was hot, he was cold, when she was day he was night, her voice was loud enough to speak for the both of them while his silence spoke a thousand words. She was brash and impulsive, just like someone I know." Nahoya blushed at the blonde's pointed gaze, "But even still, he loved her because she brought balance to his life and filled it with a sense of harmony."

Nahoya watched the blond take a silver item out from his sleeve, a simple Yin & Yang necklace. He watched Mucho snap the magnetic pieces apart and hold each piece in both hands. He smiled at the smaller teen, "And you know I'm all about harmony. So it's only fitting I give this to my only true opposite, but my equal nonetheless. I want you to continue staying by my side not only as my best friend but as my boyfriend. If you'll have me." He smiled warmly.

Nahoya felt like time was moving in slow motion. The blasting fireworks now muted in his ears, his attention, all five of his senses now locked onto the man in front of him. His hands shook as he was literally left speechless but he had to force himself to say something before Mucho thought he was being rejected.

Tears filled his eyes and threatened to fall as he nodded his head vigorously. He could practically hear the relief in Mucho's voice, "Yes?"

"YES!!" Smiley cheered as he rushed into the blonde's arms, the larger male lifting him off his feet, hauling him in the air as they laughed with each other.

As Mucho held Nahoya in his arms, the peach haired boy had perfect access to simply lean forward for their lips to meet in a tender kiss. Mucho internally cheered as Nahoya took the liberty to deepen the kiss, the boy's small hand coming up to cup at Mucho's jaw affectionately. Mucho opened his lips slightly to which Nahoya boldly wriggled his tongue inside, their kiss getting messy and heated quickly.

The blonde settled Nahoya back on the ground before his body could react in a way that would ruin this sweet, innocent moment. He watched the Kawata twin turn his back to him, pulling his orange curls out the way to give Mucho clear access to his neck.

He immediately fastened the Yang half of the necklace onto his slender neck, putting his half on himself promptly after. Nahoya turned to him, glancing down at the charm with rosy cheeks and fond gaze. He turned that gaze up at his partner and smirked, "Happy New Year, boyfriend. " He purred.

Mucho felt his neck get hot, bending down to peck the twin's warm cheek, "Happy New Year, boyfriend."

☆Bonus☆

Nahoya pressed his cheek against Mucho's warm, broad back as the nipping winter air rushed around them. His arms were wrapped tightly around the larger teen's solid waist as they rode back to his house.

He couldn't believe it. Boyfriends. Like actual boyfriend's and the way Mucho asked him out, ugh! It was like straight out a Shoujo Manga, a freaking fairytale confession!

He couldn’t wait to tell his brother, he goes nuts for stuff like that. He couldn't lie though, Mucho had been the perfect gentleman all night and Nahoya actually liked the extra attention, even if it did make him feel a little bit like a girl.

They finally pulled up to his home and before Nahoya could reach for his or his brother's Plushies, Mucho hoisted both massive toys over his shoulders.

Nahoya chuckled by his side, "My macho man~." He cooed out, reveling in the way the taller boy's cheeks flushed at his words.

When the door opened, Mucho presented the whale and Souya practically screamed, his blue eyes sparkling. "IT'S HUGE!!" He exclaimed, ripping the toy from the large man's hands. He squeezed it tightly, burying his face in the plushness of it all, "Thanks Mucho!!" and with that ran off to his room.

Nahoya took the large white polar bear from his boyfriend's (he loved saying that!!) arms and swayed with it as the teen stood outside the door.  "Thanks for tonight Yasuhiro, everything was perfect." Smiley said.

Mucho blushed, rubbing at his neck in his familiar way, "You made it perfect."

Nahoya pursed his lips expectedly as he leaned up on his tiptoes towards the blonde. He heard the teen give a fond chuckle as he squished Nahoya's cheeks between his palms to plant a long kiss on his soft lips.

As they parted, he could practically see stars in the ginger's eyes, "Goodnight." He said breathlessly.

"Goodnight Nahoya." Mucho smiled, bidding the teen goodbye.

Smiley watched as the blonde drove off, finally returning to the inside of his home. As cliché as it was, he leaned his back against the back of the door and sighed dreamily.

"HE ASKED ME OUUTTT!!" He yelled into the house excitedly. He smiled widely as the rapid pitter patter of his twin's feet rang throughout the top floor.

"He did? He actually did it??" Souya cheered as he ran up to his brother, a wide smile on his face. It dropped as he observed his brother’s knowing expression, "What?"

"Really? You fake sick to sell me out for a stuffed animal?" Nahoya chuckled.

Angry rolled his eyes and huffed as if he was offended, "Shut up, I got you a boyfriend. So what did he say?!" He jumped up and down energetically.

Nahoya sat with his brother in his room for the rest of the night retelling the amazing time he had at the festival from meeting up with their friends to the magical kiss on the koi pond bridge. His brother laid on his stomach with his face in the palm of his hands as his feet kicked behind him leisurely. He squealed when Nahoya showed him the Yang necklace the blonde gifted him with and Nahoya smiled at how much his younger sibling was so much like their mother.

"Congrats bro, I hope the two of you are very happy together." Nahoya knew his brother’s agitated face betrayed his true meaning and genuine concern for his brother’s well being.

He played with the small charm between his fingers and smiled to himself, “Yeah, me too.”

Notes:

This is probably my favorite fic of them I've made so far.
P.S- His mother was so excited bc she knew it was a date and Mucho was going to ask him out, that's why she was all over the place. Souya told her everything :)
Comments and kudos are MUCH appreciated, thanks for reading! Mwuah! 😚💋
