Summary:

Out on a walk together, the two Seeles unexpectedly meet someone with a vintage camera.

First day of Seele's birthday week 2023!

Work Text:

To be able to hold hands like this… it was exciting. Unthinkable only a few weeks ago, but now? Now they could be together like this, at the cinema, at the park, on the street, any time they wanted. 

 

Seele smiled, her heart filling with warmth and joy. Bronya was busy today, but that was okay, this would be a day just for the two Seeles. The weather was a little cloudy but nice and warm, the streets reasonably clear of people, and there was absolutely nothing that they had to do today— they could relax as they wished.

 

As the sun had temporarily hidden behind a big cotton candy cloud, the shadows looked very soft, even though it was still day. The blue Seele squeezed her other half’s hand; the red Seele blushed slightly and looked away, but she squeezed back.

 

“Aww, you two are so cute!”

 

Hm?

 

Hmm??? 

 

At the exact same time, both Seeles turned around… finding an unexpected person behind them.

 

Dressed in casual clothes of her own, Vita was smiling innocently, holding a vintage polaroid camera. 

 

“You…!” One Seele saw red, practically setting herself on fire with rage at the sight of the newcomer, but the hand that was being held forbade her from summoning her scythe and attacking.

 

“I see you dressed up very adorably, Seele. How about I take a picture for you two?” While it was obvious that one half of the pair was ignored, the remaining half considered the proposition seriously. The blue Seele certainly wouldn’t mind commemorating this peaceful day with a picture…

 

All of a sudden, the sun reappeared from behind the fluffy clouds. “Sure. Thank you, Vita.” She smiled and agreed, her pure expression illuminated by a ray of light.

 

With a grin, Vita mirrored her happiness, but there was still one obstacle.

 

“I’m not okay with that!” Unfortunately for the photoshoot, the red Seele had some understandable objections. “Even if she doesn't play some trick, I bet this wicked woman will ask for something unreasonable in exchange.” 

 

Vita gasped. “You wound me!” Although her voice sounded cheerful before, now, she exaggerated it deliberately, winking. “However, if you insist, I’ll ask for a little bribe~ How about a hug from Seele?”

 

The red Seele made a disgusted face.

 

On the other hand, the blue Seele laughed into her hand. “I don’t mind. Seele, let’s take a photo.” The red Seele huffed, but didn’t protest again. Though she disliked conflict, these antics were lighthearted enough that the blue Seele could find them harmlessly adorable. “Do you need us to pose?”

 

“That’s up to you, it’s your picture!” Vita let them be free as she got into position. “Ah, turn around a little bit so the lighting will be better… yeah, just like that!”

 

Although the red Seele was sour about it, she still wanted the picture to look good, as she knew that her other half would treasure it no matter what. Because of this, she forced herself to look into the objective and smiled.

 

Click. Vrrr. In an instant, the whole operation was over, and the dark square of the polaroid was printed into Vita’s waiting hand. The red Seele wanted to look at it, but the intruding girl snatched the photo from her device and held it against her breast casually. 

 

“What are you doing??” 

 

She tried to reach for it, but the blue Seele held her back through their linked hands again. “Seele, she’s just letting the photo develop. It will be prettier if it’s dark, so they’re usually set face down against a surface until they’re done…” The hurried hush calmed down the red Seele a little, but she was still suspicious.

 

“Did she have to bring her chest into it though?” She grumbled, but then the photo was already done in those few seconds and it was shoved in front of her face. Catching sight of it, she stopped thinking entirely. Even the blue Seele let go, leaning forward to stare.

 

On the paper, the twin souls’ hands would always be linked together just like today. The both of them were dappled with sunshine, but the blue Seele’s pure smile undoubtedly shone brightest; at the same time, although the red Seele in the photo was looking directly at the viewer, she looked tense and a little too serious. …perhaps this contrast brought out their personal qualities?

 

The red Seele took the photo and kept examining it, extremely pleased by the result, and eager to commit every detail to memory. This had to be the first picture taken of them as separate bodies, but on top of that, it was really good… Trust an absurdly old girl to have an eye for composition… she wouldn’t give Vita the satisfaction to know how much she liked it, though.

 

“Seele, look—” The red Seele tried to elbow her calmer half, but she only hit the air. She suddenly realized she wasn’t holding her hand anymore, or next to her at all. 

 

No, the blue Seele was too busy hugging Vita while the red one was distracted.

 

“My payment, so soon? But I haven’t even seen the picture yet!” Vita pretended to protest, but she wrapped her arms firmly around the much smaller Seele’s back, clearly pleased.

 

Seele patted her back. “Thanks, Vita.”

 

“Ah, don’t mention it. Memories are unexpectedly tedious to keep, it’s good to have a little help, isn’t it?”

 

The moment remained peaceful for a few extra seconds, the length of time it took the crimson Seele to secure the precious photo and raise her scythe.
