Chapter Text
“I promise it won’t take long but I really do need your phone. This machine can easily take your phone I assure you, and then you’ll miss more than a few messages,” Chase says while finishing setting up for the angiogram.
With a disheartened sign, the patient, one Carly Forlano, hits send, flips her phone closed, and hands it out for Chase to take.
“Hang tight Carly. Now that’s out of the way, this should be over fairly quickly.”
As Chase moves to the control room intent on wrapping this up efficiently (if the angio is clean they can let go of the suspicion of infarction and continue to find the real problem), he is stopped by the flirty voice of Jenny, the radiology resident on shift today.
“Dr. Chase, there is a Mister Vogler here asking for you.” As she finishes her message, the door opens and in walks a broad shouldered man with a deceptively kind smile. Chase turns towards the patient so Vogler can’t see his face and allows himself two breathes to get his reaction under control.
Oh god why is he here?? I thought I would never see him again.
One.
He isn’t supposed to be here. I’m supposed to be safe.
Two.
With his second breath, Chase turns back to the intruding man. “My apologies we are in the middle of a medical procedure. I need to ask you to leave, Mr. Vogler, was it?”
“Seems to me like the procedure is just about to start. Surely this woman,” Vogler glances at her name badge, “Jenny, is fully qualified to oversee it from here? If not, I don’t know why she’s working in the hospital I just bought.”
Seeing Jenny inhale sharply surely about to fight, Chase redirects her. “Can you finish priming the machine? We will start in just a moment.”
“I think we need to have a meeting, Dr. Chase. Join me in my office.”
“No.”
Vogler’s eye twitches at the rebuke. He leans in close to Chase and speaks softly, “I think you’ll find that if you don’t want your current boss to find out exactly how you served your prior one, that that wasn’t a request. My office. Now.”
