WOW it’s been a minute— sorry! The combination of a long chapter (the 4th longest in the fic, I believe), a hectic week-or-so at work, and general personal-life stuff, it took way longer to record and edit this than expected!

I found it to be an interesting challenge to differentiate other characters’ voices from each other in group dialogue scenes (and I have absolutely no clue whether I succeeded or not)

CWs: the big feelings concern more to do with how upset nico is over leo’s ‘betrayal’ (as he sees it) and the romans leaving i.e. baby gets his abandonment issues triggered. the accidental injury is nico shadow-travelling into a tree by accident and hurting his wrist and dislocating his ankle, which he resets. the self-harm is then him purposely redislocating his ankle multiple times.

the dishes/foods nico mentioned are popular in venice and classic to the region, and the thing about only cooking foods from your region is also true!

baccalà alla vicentina = kind of a signature dish, basically salt cod and polenta
moscardino = musky octopus, popular in venice (do not believe google translate. it translates it as common dormouse. i have on good authority from an actual venetian that it is salted octopus. nico was not thinking about feeding percy a common dormouse.)
risi e bisi = rice and peas (fun education fact: in italian peas is ‘piselli’ but in veneto it’s ‘bisi’ instead!)
ragù d’anatra = duck ragu, one of the most well-known pasta dishes in the veneto region but usually made with bigoli instead of fettuccine. however making bigoli by hand requires a specialised machine and i saw a lot of references on various venetian recipe sites to fettuccine so i think that’s an acceptable substitute (hopefully)
ragù di corte = farmyard ragu, made with duck, guinea fowl and stewing hen
fegato alla Veneziana = venetian style liver
frittelle veneziane ripiene = a classic dessert/carnival food, from what i understand a kind of fried pastry
la pinza veneta = a holiday cornmeal cake, again a traditional venetian dessert
