Final Members of New Boy Group Has Been Decided
On the evening of the 19 Dec 20XX, the finale of the popular music show “The Nevernight Campaign” (hereafter referred to as “Nevernight’) aired.
Upon it’s conception, Nevernight sought to set itself apart from the usual idol survival/competition shows like Produce and Queendom. Advertising itself as “a year long joint training venture,” Nevernight invited trainees from across multiple agencies, including big names like Cloud Recesses Entertainment and Lotus Pier Entertainment, to live together, train together, and compete together for a chance to land a spot among group that can only be described as the best of the best.
First airing in December of last year, Nevernight released two episodes a month for the last twelve months, the resulting 24 episodes making it double the length of the average idol series. Along with the aired episodes, a variety of other content was released during this time on the associated YouTube channel; including vlogs, dance practice videos, training logs, and performance videos. With these contents, fans got to learn more about their favorite trainees and watch them grow.
Another way in which Nevernight set itself from traditional survival shows is that, while there was judge evaluations and fan voting, no one was ever actually eliminated from the show. All 30 trainees who joined the show from the first day remained present until the final day, giving all the trainees a chance to learn and grow until the very end, but also making predicting the final line-up nearly impossible.
Last night’s nail-biting finale revealed that the 5 debuting members of the group will consist of Lan Zhan (stage name Wangji) of Cloud Recesses Entertainment, Nie Fan (stage name Huaisang) of UCR Entertainment, Wen Ning (stage name Qionglin) of Dafan Records, Wei Ying (stage name Wuxian) and Jiang Cheng (stage name Wanyin) both of Lotus Pier Entertainment.
The final group name has been announced to be SUNSHOT. SUNSHOT will operate for 3 years under the management of Immortal Mountain Entertainment.

(not pausing for a response, he continues)
Wahh! I can’t believe Nevernight is over! What a year it was!

Wangji’s face is the scariest thing here! How are you so handsome, but so cold? Hearing you say that while looking so serious is terrifying!
WANYIN
(glaring at Wuxian)

WUXIAN
(rolling his eyes)
Why would I do that? I’m the mood-maker of the team.
WANYIN
And who decided that?
WUXIAN
Well someone’s gotta be and I don’t see you volunteering.
QIONGLIN
(slightly panicked)

WUXIAN
(throws himself over Wangji’s lap to reach for Qionglin on his other side)
Ah, Ning Ning, don’t worry. We’re not fighting! This is how Cheng Cheng and I get along.
WANYIN

WUXIAN
Stop yelling, Cheng Cheng! You're scaring the baby!
WANGJI
(looking down at Wuxian still draped across his lap)

Rookie Super Group to Debut
Only days after the finale of the hit idol series The Nevernight Campaign, the final boy group formed from the show has already announced their debut.
At midnight on the 21st day of December, the official social media account for project boy group SUNSHOT has announced the opening of pre-orders for their debut mini-album. This announcement comes only days after the group’s final line-up (Wangji, Huaisang, Wuxian, Wanyin, and Qionglin) was decided.
Many online retail sites sold out pre-orders within the first hour.
The mini-album, FOREWORD, is set to release on the 21st of January. Expectations are high.

Hello everyone, Chae here and I am back with another Rookie Watch: Debut Breakdown! Today I’ll be sharing my experience, thoughts, and opinions about the debut showcase of the much anticipated new boy group SUNSHOT.
I’ll come right out and say it: I never watched Nevernight. I know, I know, don’t judge me. We have this conversation every time. I’ve just never been interested in idol survival shows, but I am interested in rookie groups, so I always look into the final groups from the shows, which is why I am here.
From my understanding, Nevernight was HUGE. And so, the fandom built around SUNSHOT is equally as huge already. Knowing this, I fully expected to fail at ticketing and have to watch their debut showcase through online streaming, but as luck would have it, I actually managed to land a seat.
I arrived at the venue early and quickly realized I’d missed something important because everyone I saw was dressed in either galaxy print or in star themed accessories. Turns out there’d been a livestream just hours before the show where the fandom name was revealed to be SUPERNOVA. A lovely name almost as pretty as VT’s CLARITY.
Speaking of VT, long time readers should know this, but I was originally a Venerated Triad fan, and that was the origins of this blog. I was absolutely crushed that VT disbanded after such little time and I’ve spent the last 3 years chasing the high stanning them once brought me. My fellow CLARITY will tell you how devastating the announcement of their disbandment was for us, and no other group as come close to filling the hole VT left in my life.
For those who don’t know, VT disbanded because of Minjue’s worsening chronic illness and in the time since the group’s ending, he has completely stepped out of the spotlight, while Guangyao now works behind the scenes as an agent in Golden Carp Entertainment and Xichen has transitioned from idol to actor (he’s currently starring alongside Jin Zixuan in the drama The Burning of Yúnshēn, please give him lots of support.)
Xichen is the reason for my VT tangent right now, because to my surprise, he actually acted as the emcee for SUNSHOT’s debut showcase. To my even bigger surprise, Wangji of SUNSHOT is actually my beloved Xichen’s younger brother. Somehow, I’d completely missed the fact that the little brother Xichen used to speak so fondly of had followed him into the industry. Not only that, but SUNSHOT’s Huaisang is Minjue’s younger brother. It’s almost a shame that Jin Zixuan pursued acting instead of singing, if he was in SUNSHOT, we would be looking at the second generation of VT right here.
I will try to not let my emotions over this color my opinion of SUNSHOT’s debut.
The show opened with Xichen coming to the stage and greeting the crowd, introducing himself, and encouraging everyone to scream loudly to summon the men of the hour to the stage. From there, Xichen retreated and SUNSHOT were raised on platforms from beneath the stage and began to perform their first song of the night.
WINNERS is an absolutely explosive track. It’s a very high energy song that makes you want to jump around and yell. The braggadocios lyrics are witty and catchy, telling others it does not matter how hard you try, we’ve already won before the game’s even begun. I usually don’t like cocky songs like this, but SUNSHOT displayed such a range of their skill with this song, it felt less like baseless bragging and more like a simple statement of fact. Everything from vocals to rap to choreography was high level and flawless.
Their second song of the night was the power ballad Give A Little Happiness. It is a very warm a sentimental song, pairing deep vocals with a melodic rap that is easy to listen to and enjoy. It’s not quite a love song in the romantic sense, but it brings to mind all your precious childhood memories and the enduring love of friends and family.
After this, they sat down to chat with the audience and play games alongside MC Xichen. It was during this time that it was revealed that Wangji and Wuxian had already had all of the songs for this album written for months, even before the final line up for the group was even decided. In fact, they already have many more songs that they wrote together during Nevernight that they are looking forward to revealing on future albums.
Speaking of Wuxian, this man’s charisma and stage presence is out of this world. As you may know, Xichen was my uncontested #1 in VT, so I thought Wangji would take that role in SUNSHOT, but while Wangji’s singing talent may even surpass his brother’s, the pure magnetism of Wuxian held me captivated the entire night.
The next song the performed was Lonely for You Only and I do not say this lightly, that song was the Horniest song I have ever heard. And I mean Horny, not sexy. It was sexy. The choreo was very sexy. But the lyrics. My mother would have a heart attack if she heard these lyrics. It was a declaration of desire, not an attempt at seduction. It said I want you carnally, but somehow without being vulgar about it. It is a song that leaves you panting on the bed and needing a cigarette. When Xichen asked them about this song later, assuming that it was the work of the mischievous Wuxian, he nearly fell out of his chair in surprise learning the lyrics were 100% written by this darling baby brother.
As if to douse us all in cold water to cool us off from the previous song, the next performance was Supernova. This is everything you’d expect from a fan song: adoring, loving, sentimental, hopeful. A true love song enough to bring tears to your eyes.
After some more chatting with the audience and MC Xichen, they wrapped up their debut showcase by finally performing their title track Way Out.
As always when I do Rookie Watch album and/or showcase reviews, I will not be sharing my opinion of the title track here. Instead I encourage you to go watch it and decide for yourself.
Overall, my opinion of SUNSHOT can be summed up in two words: Monster Rookies.
This group is the complete package. They are not lacking anywhere. Their vocals and rap, their lyricism and music sense, their choreography and stage presence, and of course, their visuals: there are no flaws in any of it. I have watched a lot of groups debut over the years and none has ever left as much if an impression as SUNSHOT has.
These really are rookies to look out for. They’re going to shake up the industry. And I will supporting them the entire way.
This CLARITY has gone SUPERNOVA.

Newly Debuted Idol Accused of School Violence
On the evening of January 21st, boy group SUNSHOT made their debut with their first mini-album FOREWORD to rave reviews. The self-produced album has captured the attention both the fans and the public alike, heralding a bright future for the rookie group.
But just after midnight on January 23rd, a video was posted to SNS by an anonymous account. The video seems to depict SUNSHOT member Wuxian wearing the uniform of his previous high school, engaging in a physical altercation with an unknown individual.
While the video has no audio, Wuxian is clearly seen yelling what might be profanities before grabbing the unknown party by the front of his shirt and delivering a blow to their face.
While the other party’s face is censored in the video, the aggressor, Wuxian’s face is clearly seen.
SUNSHOT’s company, Immortal Mountain Entertainment, has yet to make a statement.

He says nothing else on the subject, instead falling back into silence as he eats more of his food. After a minute, he looks back at his phone.

Is there a member I’m closes to on the team? Wei Ying. He and I are very different people, but that somehow makes us well suited for each other. He is very smart and has a unique way of thinking. I often listen to his rambling stream-of-consciousness and find them very insightful. We also make good music together. His passion is as contagious as his smile and he has a very good heart.
He looks back at his phone.

You and Wuxian are complete opposites? Instead of opposites, I would say we are complimentary. He is truly my soulmate.

I have known Wuxian for years. We were trainees at the same time, but under different agencies. We met on a few occasions. He was very charming and flirtatious and liked to tease. But it was always harmless fun; the flirting was never serious, the teasing was never cruel.

I was unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of his attention. He immediately began harassing me and would not accept my “no.” He’d cornered me alone somewhere and I was honestly very very scared. Wuxian happened to stumble across us and the moment he saw the look on my face, he immediately intervened.

I was also a trainee at Cloud Recesses and it’s a known fact that, not only did you injure yourself multiple times trying to pull off dance maneuvers beyond your skill level just because you saw Wangji do them, so you were already on thin ice, but you were kicked out for letting trainees from another agency into non-public areas of the company without permission.

Everything You Need to Know About Wuxian, Jin Zixuan, and the Punch(self.kpop)
Since inevitably, someone’s gonna google what’s been going on, I just wanted to compile all the information I can into one place. It’s a long post, so buckle in.

Jiang Yanli: Jin Zixuan’s fiance, daughter of Lotus Pier’s CEO and former trainee under Lotus Pier (also the older sister of SUNSHOT member Wanyin)

What Happened:
On January 23rd, the twitter account “WWX egg” posted a video depicting a young Wuxian punching an unknown person in the face. The “victim” identity was concealed in the video, and Wuxian clearly appeared to be the aggressor.
News media began releasing articles labeling Wuxian as a perpetrator of “school violence” as he was wearing his school uniform in the video. School violence (or “bullying” in layman's terms) is a very serious offense and allegations with less evidence than this has ruined idol’s careers.
Immortal Mountain (the company managing SUNSHOT) made a statement saying they were investigating the claims, but announcing that Wuxian would not participate in the promotions of SUNSHOT’s debut album, they also canceled some events including the birthday livestream of member Wangji.
This immediately climbed up the trending topic, fans calling for Wuxian’s removal from SUNSHOT.
Later that evening, against company’s orders, Wangji started a livestream from his family home. In this livestream, he spoke in defense of Wuxian, declaring that Wuxian has a good heart and he believes him and people should know the full truth before making judgments.
Fans immediately rallied together, trending “Believe in Wuxian” and “The Truth.”
The account WWX egg returns to make a tweet declaring that the truth is that the fight was over a girl. But this tweet gained little traction.
We hear nothing for nearly a week, until January 28th, actress and soloist Mian Mian took to her twitter account to make a public statement in defense Wuxian. She described her previous interactions with him explaining how he’d helped her out of tough situations and why she believes in him. She also claimed that she knew the full story behind the video, but she would not share it herself, but called for the relevant parties to speak up.
At the same time as Mian Mian posted her statement in support of Wuxian, soloist Su She of Moling Records took to his own SNS account to condemn Wangji, declaring that Wangji had only defended Wuxian because Wangji is also a bully who used to torment him (Su She).
This statement was immediately shot down by multiple known trainees of Cloud Recesses Entertainment.
Immortal Mountain issued a statement condemning the malicious rumors and declaring they would be suing.
Su She deleted his tweet.
On January 29th, the actor Jin Zixuan started a livestream on his personal SNS account and urged his fans to invite as many SUPERNOVA (the name of SUNSHOT’s fandom) as they could to join. During this livestream, he revealed that he was the second party/”victim” in the infamous video that started this all, but there was more to the story.
So, What really happened?
This requires some background information. Jin Zixuan is the son of Golden Carp Entertainment's CEO and started as a trainee under the company at a young age. In his own words, he feared that if he stayed with GCE, anything he might achieve in the future may be viewed as the results of nepotism, so when he was a teen, he auditioned to train at Lotus Pier Entertainment instead, hoping to get out from under his father’s umbrella.
At the time he joined LPE, Wuxian, Wanyin, and Jiang Yanli were also trainees there. Wuxian had joined LPE at the age of 9 and the Jiang sibling had been there most of their childhood. Wuxian and the Jiangs had a close sibling like relationship having trained together for so long.
In Zixuan’s own word, in his teen years he was “arrogant, crass, and had a tough time expressing himself.”
A rumor began to spread that Jiang Yanli had a crush on him and Zixuan says he “viewed her as unremarkable and that her position as a trainee could only be due to the same nepotism he’d been trying to escape.” (I feel like it’s worth nothing that at this time, Jiang Yanli had already made multiple appearances in commercials as well as played small roles in some dramas and starred as the love interest in the MVs of a few LPE artist.)
After repeatedly hearing about Yanli’s supposed crush, Zixuan publicly insulted her and caused her to cry. Upon hearing these insults and seeing the girl he saw as a sister crying, Wuxian “justifiably” (in Zixuan's own words) punched him.
This was not the punch in the video.
The punch in the video came a year later, after Zixuan had returned to training under this father’s company and was cast as the 3rd male lead in a web drama. Yanli was also cast in a small role in the same drama. (As well as Mian Mian who was playing the second female lead.)
On a day Wuxian and Wanyin happened to be visiting the set of the drama, Zixuan for the second time publicly insulted Yanli and made her cry. And Wuxian, for the second time, punched him.
This was the punch caught of video and shared to social media.
