Crow’s Voltron Headcanons

Summary:

Just a collection of Voltron headcanons I have and possibly some mini ficlets in the future.

Chapter 1: Piloting the Red Lion is Tiring

Notes:

I'm sick, and bored, and I want to write some fanfics but my ideas aren't fanficking so for the first time, I'm going to share my headcanons on here, yay! (Most will be just making the show whumpier for my favourite character - which for Voltron is Keith - and maybe down the line I'll add in some fic ideas that I want to write but I'm not sure if you guys would want to read so I can basically use this to gauge the interest)

Chapter Text

Okay, so you know how the Red Lion is more temperamental and harder to control or whatever? What if like, that doesn't change even after the paladin and the lion have bonded? Keith is very hot-headed and strong-willed himself so what if when he's flying the Red Lion, he's constantly having to fight for it to do what he wants. So basically whenever he's flying it, he's always more tired than the other paladins after they're done but also like, he's Keith so they never really notice and he never really lets it show.

Before him, King Alfor flew the Red Lion but it was easier for him, because 1) he built it, and 2) he's Altean and Altean's are naturally stronger than humans (which is what Keith is, but only half, so…). Since Keith is half-Galra, maybe the Lion kind of holds a bit of a grudge because the Red Lion was the one captured by the Galra in the beginning right, so it's almost out of spite making it difficult for Keith.

When Keith becomes the Black Lion's pilot though, Lance pilots the Red Lion but he never gets as tired as Keith. I don't have an explanation for this, but maybe it's just because Keith was never really meant to pilot the Red Lion in the first place and Lance was?

Chapter 2: Matt and Keith Knew Each Other Before

Chapter Text

Shiro and Sam Holt obviously knew each other for a long while before the Kerberos mission. He was defending Shiro's ability to pilot them on the Kerberos mission and they seemed really close. That same episode, later when Keith confronts Shiro about the mission, he knows who Sam Holt is and there's a lot of different ways he could have known that, but I like to think it's because they knew each other personally.

Now, I think Matt and Keith are around the same age. If Shiro and (Captain? Commander?) Holt were that close, then Holt probably came over to Shiro's place at some point, or Shiro went to theirs and they probably got Keith and Matt to meet at some point. They might not have been best friends or whatever, because Keith's always been a loner and Matt probably hung with Pidge, but I still think that the Holts and Keith and Shiro were close before they meet later.

I have further proof though. By the time in the series when Pidge finds Matt (and her dad), Keith's with the Blades, so he never gets to actually meet them until way later I think. However, on the Naxzela(?) mission, both Keith and Matt are there and again, while they don't meet face to face, Keith does communicate with Matt and when he does, he says something like "good to have you on our side" with a little smile so…

If Keith and Matt were close though, then Keith and Pidge probably were close too, or at least knew each other before. I'm pretty sure Keith's pretty quick to start older brothering Pidge, like they all kinda do, but also when Pidge reveals that she's a girl, Keith's one of the first if I remember correctly to say that he knew. Since Shiro figured that out pretty quick but kept quiet, I think Keith might have known too, especially if he was friends with Matt and probably heard him call Katie "Pidge". He kept quiet though, because there was probably a reason Pidge didn't reveal who she was.

I don't know if that might be canon somewhere else, or like a fanon or smth, but that's my take anyway :)

Chapter 3: Keith’s Connection with Voltron

Chapter Text

Before Keith went over to the Blades, he had been the Black Lion’s pilot for a bit. He’d formed a bond with it already, and that stayed even after he left. Even when he’s galaxies away on a mission with the Blades, he can faintly feel when Voltron is formed through that bond.

Chapter 4: Black Lion Voltron Connection

Chapter Text

To some extent, the paladins feel what the lions feel. If the lions take a hit, then the paladins feel some of that pain too. It’s a bit different when they’re formed as Voltron though.

As Voltron, they function as a single being. They still feel their individual lion’s pain - I.e. if one of the arms is pinned then whoever is the pilot for that one feels a bit of pain - but since the Black Lion functions as the head, they feel everything. The pain that Voltron feels as a whole is felt by whoever’s in the Black Lion. It’s not like, too bad, but if Voltron takes a blast that isn’t directed at a certain limb or something then it’s the Black Lion’s paladin who mainly feels it. The rest feel like a faint bit of pain but it’s mainly on the Black Lion’s pilot.

The pain isn’t unbearable, but it’s hard to deal with because as the Black Lion/ the head of Voltron, they’re the one basically directing what Voltron does. So even if they just took a hard blast and it hurts, they have to basically ignore it and keep strategising, paying attention to the fight so they don’t all die.

Chapter 5: Benefits of Being Half-Galra

Chapter Text

Because Keith’s half-Galra, he has certain physical advantages over his fellow paladins. For example, he’s a bit stronger than he should be for his size, his stamina is great and in general he’s in really good shape. Another thing though is that he doesn’t have to eat or sleep as much as the others. That’s what he always tells them anyways…

Chapter 6: When Acxa Started To Doubt Lotor

Notes:

I actually don't know how long Acxa was stuck in the Weblum's stomach for but I'm gonna assume it was for a short while.

Chapter Text

Acxa was never Lotor's biggest fan, but he gave her a chance where not many did because of her mixed heritage so she had a sort of respect for him and loyalty. As time went on though, she started to have doubts about his character and his mission.

If she had to pinpoint where it started though, it'd have to be when Lotor sent her to retrieve some scaultrite but didn't try to contact or help her at all when she got stuck there for two days before Keith saved her. Even when she got back - with a bag of scaultrite by the way - Lotor barely looked at her, and just got mad at her for taking a long time. He didn't even really thank her or give her a chance to explain herself. Even if she did have a chance, what would she have said? Told him that she was saved by a paladin of Voltron and didn't capture him?
