Day and Night

Summary:

Skipp and Vinnie are morning people, Stone is not. Usually, that means that Stone has to get up when they get up. He is outnumbered after all.

But what if he wasn't?

Work Text:

Sunrise came early in Ramshackle, the sky always brightening far too quickly for Stone's taste. The hubbub of the city followed closely after it, as people tried to get into shops and markets before the best stock was depleted. Scraps like them usually took advantage of the tired grogginess of the Lootbags who did so - they were so much easier to truck when they were barely conscious. Unfortunately, this had the consequence of forcing Stone, Vinnie and Skipp up at the crack of dawn, not that the latter two minded.

Stone, on the other hand, did mind. He stayed up long into the nights, looking into their measly fire while the other two huddled beneath their thin blanket. Consequently, he was usually tired, and the eyebags beneath his own eyes were much larger and darker than those of Skipp and Vinnie. Still, there was nothing he could do. He was outnumbered by morning people.

However, that was not the case today.

As usual, the sky began to take on an orange tint at around 6:00AM. As usual, Skipp began to wake from his quiet rest with a smile and a small yawn. As usual, he looked to his side, ready to wake up his friends for the day ahead. What was unusual, was that Vinnie was nowhere to be seen. Skipp immediately began to panic, rising from his spot almost immediately. Where was she? Had something happened? Had-

He was snapped out of his thoughts by a hand grabbing onto his own, feeling a small tug as Stone feebly attempted to pull him back down.
"Wha's wrong?" The taller body asked groggily, a single eye squinting open to look towards Skipp.
"Vinnie isn't here! I don't know where she's gone!" He replied, practically breathless with worry, although it was eased slightly when he heard a small laugh from below him.
"She went to see that guy- what was his name again? Bush or something?" It was hard to tell whether Stone was joking or simply to tired to actually remember, but either way it got a laugh out of Skipp, now much more relaxed. He did remember Vinnie saying something about going to meet a, as she said, 'idiot lootbag' at some absurd hour of the morning. She must still be out.

Just as he was about to walk off and start to make a fire for the day, he felt another tug on his arm. Turning around, he looked down at Stone, the black-haired boy looking up at him with needy eyes.
"You should come back to bed. There's time." He pleaded. Skipp took a moment to think. On the one hand, it would be good to get everything ready for the day.

On the other hand, it was a rare sight to see Stone so needy.

After a moment's hesitation, Skipp relented, sitting back down and pulling the blanket back over himself. A soft smile spread across Stone's face as he felt the shorter boy settle beside him, eyes once again flitting closed.
At fiest, Skipp found it difficult to even attempt to get back to sleep. While the walls of their alley provided plenty of shade, the hastily rising sun still meant it was much brighter than the evening.

He was very close to calling it a day, and going back to getting up, when he felt a pair of lean arms wrap around his chest. A nose rested against the top of his head, and he started to hear quiet breathing as Stone nestled against him. He listened to the boy's breaths for a few moments, a wide smile on his face as he felt the warmth radiating from Stone. It was almost like having a hot water bottle, only larger. The faint smell of smoke and alcohol hit his nose, but Skipp didn't mind. Those had long ago become the smells of safety and comfort, and the knowledge that he had people watching his back. It was profoundly relaxing, and Skipp found himself drifting of with a happy expression at the thought.

"What the heck are you two doing still asleep!" Vinnies voice yelled from above the two, as Skipp startled awake, and Stone rose from his laying position almost exactly like Skipp imagined a vampire would. "The fuck d'you mean?" He questioned, only for Vinnie to stomp over, holding a stopwatch which was far too fancy for any of them to own
It confidently showed that they had spent the last four hours asleep, as it was now 10AM.

Skipp shot up from under the blanket, as he started to apologise. "I'm so sorry, Vin. We haven't even gotten a fire going. I'm not sure."

Internally, he was kicking himself for going back to sleep instead of doing the tasks that he was suppossed to around the alley. However, that's when he heard Stone laugh - hell, it was practically a giggle - at the entire situation.

Maybe, Skipp thought, it had been worth it, just to hear such a heavenly sound.

Notes:

Ahoy there!

Me again, in a surprisingly short timeframe if I'm honest. Just a little fluffy thing, I would've liked for it to be slightly longer but hey ho. Also, there are now at least 6x the amount of fics there were for Ramshackle than before the pilot came out.
Since I sometimes don't comment, I'll just say something here: Good work to everyone, we love every new fic and idea that comes out of this fandom, and love to see it grow.

Otherwise, that's all from me. Comments are appreciated.
Have a fantastic day!
